Hi All,

Thought I’d just start a December 2019 babies thread for those who have given birth in December and want to catchup/chat/rant/need support etc.

We are 11 days in...!
How is everyone doing?

My mat leave finishes at the end of November. But as I have accrued and rolled over leave, I'm going to end my mat leave mid-October and take 6 weeks paid leave. (Holiday runs Jan-Dec) - shutdown over christmas anyway - so have to go back to work for maybe 2-3 weeks? then 2 weeks shutdown leave and then back into it proper.

Otherwise I think I'm unapid for a bout 3 months? so this seems the best way to do it financially.

However, I was supposed to be going back to work for KIT days, which now haven't happened! So I'm hoping to do some KIT days in a few months (money willbe nice!) and also as a 'test run' for seeing if I can leave DD for a couple of days. I think I can, but haven't actually been able to try this.

Beginning of March, Mum looked after her for two hours so me and DH could go out for dinner for my birthday.
Other than that it' been DH for an hour or so here and there.

It's crazy to think there all nearly 6 months old. Then the weaning fun begins!

I'm curious what dates were your babies born on in December? My son was born on the 9th

I went back to work on the 4th May so I've only had 5 and a half months off, mostly because with my first I realised how bored i got having so long off. Just terrible timing with the pandemic but glad to still have a job and to get proper full pay again. We are actually managing to have two kids, no childcare and two incomes which I never thought possible because ideally the eldest would be in nursery, I'd be doing days not evenings and the youngest would go to the grandparents where needed so I could increase my hours from 15 to at least 20.

My son has mastered rolling all over the place, which is quite a pain with a hyperactive 3yr old who doesn't look where he's going all the time.

Day time naps are difficult at the moment, I see the tired cues and try to get him to sleep but he just fights it until he's crying and screaming then he just conks out.

Night time he is doing good, he is in his own room and does sleep from 7/8/9pm to 6/7/8am. But usually around 4am he's been ending up in my bed when his dad is on nights, I think because I can't be bothered to actually resettle him and take the time at that time in the morning that I find it just easier to move him and let him fall asleep next to me which is pretty much instant, when his dad is home then I think he gets up with him and resettles him back in his cot.

Mine was actually born Jan 1st but was due Xmas eve so I stayed on the December board

Fivebyfive2 · 23/05/2020 11:58

Mine was actually due Jan 9th but was born Dec 12th... He just wanted to see what Christmas is all about 😂

popgoesperfection · 23/05/2020 13:41

I was due 2th Nov and had him on 3rd December. An everyone thought I would have him early !!! Haha

2littleboyzmum · 23/05/2020 14:03

They let you go 4 weeks over due? I didn't think that was actually possibly

Comps83 · 23/05/2020 14:06

I think she's missed a number off the date Grin

2littleboyzmum · 23/05/2020 14:06

I realise now you meant from sometime around the 20th November 😂

2littleboyzmum · 23/05/2020 14:07

I totally didn't read it correct

popgoesperfection · 23/05/2020 20:08

🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ was typing with lo on knee trying to grab phone 😂 27th even 🙈

2littleboyzmum · 24/05/2020 11:05

Anyone else's baby got teeth yet? Isaac is getting his first tooth on the bottom, it just cut through the gum line 😀

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 25/05/2020 10:48

No teeth here

forevercurious · 25/05/2020 17:10

DS is the third and no teeth yet, however he has now mastered sitting up!

Fivebyfive2 · 25/05/2020 20:04

I think joe has a tooth on the way, he has been very fretful this weekend red cheeks, chewing drooling, rubbing his face/ears alot. Bless him. He is obsessed with his feet, they cheer him up 😂 He can sit OK with support and tried to nab my toast today... Could weaning be on the horizon?! I'm excited and nervous!!

2littleboyzmum · 25/05/2020 22:43

Yes we've got a feet lover here too, My little one is obsessed with his feet and same with anyone face he just has to touch their face 😂
also getting very cheeky when we're eating, the other night he tried to drag my whole plate away from me for the chips 😮 I think he's going to love food, I have given him a tiny lick of my ice lolly this week to see what he made of it, the cold temperature was a bit of a surprise but he took it well and then realise there was something that tasted different. Cannot wait to break out the baby food next week!

forevercurious · 26/05/2020 08:16

Has anyone decided if they’re going to do BLW? I think that’s the route we’re going to take. I’m excited to start but also a little sad at how quickly the past (almost) 6 months have gone!

Fivebyfive2 · 26/05/2020 08:30

@forevercurious, I think we might do a mix, doing puree etc first, with some finger foods as well. I had an Ella's Kitchen book for Christmas and it's got a plan for what to try when, portion size, recipes etc so I think because classes/health centres etc will probably still be closed when we start, we're going to try and follow that? I'm nervous about blw, but that is really my own issue; I was born with a problem with my oesophagus and even as an older child would get food stuck etc. Joe doesn't have the same problem, he's fine, but I don't know, I think it's just made me a bit anxious? I'd like to do a class or something on blw, maybe I'd feel better after getting more info or something, but I think with the current situation we're gonna do puree and finger food. I do know people who do blw though and they really rate it 😀

loreleigilmore28 · 30/05/2020 01:18

My son was born on the 9th dec and he is definitely ready for weaning:)
My daughter is 4 now and I literally cannot remember a thing about how I started the process... what is everyone else doing?

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 30/05/2020 07:42

We're going to do BLW, just waiting for DD to be ready, she can sit for a moment and then topples, hasn't lost her tongue thrust reflex yet either, so a couple more weeks yet.

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 30/05/2020 07:44

Then once she can sit and has lost the reflex, she'll be sat with is at the table at meal times, and we're waiting for her to taking some food and 'eat' it, at the moment she just holds it, like anything else.

oneworriedmumma · 30/05/2020 17:41

We’ve now started BLW, he can sit up well and has so far tried: carrot, cucumber, mash, toast and banana. He’s hand / eye coordination is good and he used the spoon with only a tiny amount of help for the mash. We’re doing BLW but will be giving cutlery when it’s needed as I don’t particularly want him to eat everything with his hands! however we won’t be spoon feeding him as such.

oneworriedmumma · 30/05/2020 17:43

@Fivebyfive2 I watched a really helpful weaning video on Instagram which reassured me a lot. I’ll try and find it for you.

forevercurious · 31/05/2020 08:28

We’re going to be doing BLW too but I’m waiting until he’s officially 6 months this week! I don’t know what food to offer first.

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 31/05/2020 10:41

Just have him in your lap for now and let him grab something. That's what we're going to do.

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 01/06/2020 11:56

Is anyone else's baby being whingey and clingy?

DD is 5.5 months/24 weeks today, and had been moaning and whingey a lot these last few days.

Is it the heat, it maybe teething???
