Hi All,

Thought I’d just start a December 2019 babies thread for those who have given birth in December and want to catchup/chat/rant/need support etc.

We are 11 days in...!
How is everyone doing?

@jpaws, oh my I can honestly say I'm genuinely thinking of making Joe our first and last! It's weird, the pregnancy was fine, c section and recovering was nowhere near as bad I was expecting and we absolutely love Joe to bits; he has his moments, especially with sleeping, but overall he's a happy chappy and seeing him coming on is honestly the best thing ever... But the thought of doing the newborn stage again, with an older baby /toddler... I just don't know?! Sometimes I worry that makes me a bit odd? Like everyone already says 'ooo you'll be having another soon' and I've taken to just laughing it off because when I was honest about it, it's like they thought I was saying I wasn't enjoying being a mum to him or that I'm weird or something?! Ah well!

Is anyone else struggling with what to do in the day?? Keep thinking of stuff around the house I should be doing, but when Joe is awake he wants feeding or playing with, obviously. He'll sit in his chair on his own for a bit but then he wants to 'chat' 😂 I miss baking, definitely doing some this weekend while dh supervises the boy 🍪🍰

Comps83 · 15/04/2020 10:06

I think if I was younger I would have another but think I'm too old now . I think I'd be more worried about things going wrong if I got pregnant again and I'd also be worried about having twins

jpaws · 15/04/2020 10:47

Well my OH flatly refused to have another after what we went through in labour this time (our first and honestly I must have blanked bits out because, although it was long, I dont feel it was too bad?!). I am hoping to change his mind as I'd really like two but totally get what you're saying @Fivebyfive2 because I love seeing lo progress and I love the fact that he is interacting more now and his sleep is much better than at the beginning. It's a really weird one isn't it. It would be hard work I imagine having two at such a young age. I'm 33 next tuesday and feel like I shouldn't leave it too long before trying for another. I also really want to lose weight though as I put 4 stone on with him and only 1 1/2 stone has gone so far.

jpaws · 15/04/2020 10:49

Also want to add, OH said at beginning of relationship that he wanted two sooo I feel I have wriggle room here haha.

Teamthree · 15/04/2020 12:34

@fivebyfive2 I feel exactly the same. I always imagined having at least two kids, even liked the idea of three, but after having Holly both me and my partner are not sure we want more. I love her to pieces of course, and I'm so excited for our lives together, but I'm just not sure I'm up for raising more babies! I've googled "having an only child" so many times to read blogs of people who only wanted/had one. I feel sad that she might not have a sibling, but think that's not a good enough reason on it's own to have more babies. But yeah I also daren't really say it out loud cause most people don't get it. Not saying never, but certainly no plans yet!

Fivebyfive2 · 16/04/2020 05:52

Sleep well and truly gone to pot 🤯

popgoesperfection · 16/04/2020 08:29

Oh no @Fivebyfive2 did you have a bad night? Anyone's lo gone off their milk after injections?

Fivebyfive2 · 16/04/2020 11:07

We went up to bed at 7, he was asleep by 8 (fed to sleep) but woke at 9... Took until 11.30 for him to go back down properly (self settled) he slept until 3.45... Finally fell asleep on me at 5.45 and was sleeping and feeding until 9.30! He seems happy enough this morning, just had his bath. Thank god dh is on reduced hours!

@popgoesperfection, Joe still fed OK after the jabs but was super fretful for a day or two! Xx

popgoesperfection · 16/04/2020 11:30

Nights like that are hard going aren't they!! Hope you get some rest today. I'm hoping by tomorrow he's back to his normal self.

Mamabear12 · 16/04/2020 19:03

@forevercurious my dd is fully breastfeed and she has gone 10 hours several times at night and always goes 8 hours. She is my third and honestly I think it’s luck of the baby! My ds at this age woke 5 times a night and I realised by 5 months he had a dairy allergy so cut out dairy. My first dd slept well and 12 hours through by 6 months. When I did offer formula to my first it didn’t make a difference so I went back to breast.

2littleboyzmum · 18/04/2020 12:58

Anyone's baby rolling yet? My 4.5 month old rolled this week, I was looking at my eldest sons red book and he did it at 5 months. So far they are fairly similar.

We get a solid chunk of sleep midnight to between 4am and 7am. But he sleeps from 9/10pm then has a bottle at midnight then falls into a deep sleep.

We also have moved him into his room as I was disturbing him and he was disturbing me - I would sleep walk but didn't walk, Id sit up in bed, pull him out of his next to me and put him either on me or in our bed or to my partner at the slightest whinge, but I had no recollection of it as I was asleep and I'd do it 5 nights out of 7 so for his own safety he's been moved, I've got a baby monitor with video so it gives me peace of mind.

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 18/04/2020 13:40

DD (17w5d) can half roll over back to front. She lifts her legs up and rolls like that.

Nowhere near rolling from front to back. She has maybe 10 minutes of tummy time each day.... She doesn't really like it.

Fivebyfive2 · 18/04/2020 13:54

Joe rolls from front to back but not back to front although he's definitely trying! He also does this funny shuffle when on his back, he uses his legs and wriggles so he's kind of shuffling 'up' the mat / rug 😂

Sleep is very hit and miss! Thursday night was fab, he self settled and only had 1 wake up between 7.30 and 6.30...but last night was tough, he really didn't want to be put down and once awake took almost 2 hours to settle him. It's mad how each day is so different even though we're trying to be consistent!!

forevercurious · 18/04/2020 16:05

Just catching up with this thread:

@Mamabear12 ah that’s interesting Thankyou :)

@jpaws yes I really miss being pregnant and in those early few weeks would have easily had another straightaway! We are planning ttc next year - as I had a bad tear I want my body to have time to fully heal and a whole year just focused on DS.

Yes DS has rolled over from front to back a handful of times now, he started a couple of weeks ago but hasn’t done it very much since. At night he sometimes practices rolling back to front and likes swinging his legs around in his sleeping bag but so far hasn’t rolled that way yet. He also will sometimes ‘shuffle’ or push himself up the changing mat!

He now loves going in his door bouncer, I’m debating whether to get a jumperoo for him. Has anyone got or plan to use a bumbo? DS loves to sit up but I’ve heard mixed reviews about the safety of them and how they can affect the spine.

forevercurious · 18/04/2020 16:11

Ah it’s interesting to read that you’ve moved him into his own room @2littleboyzmum I fear we are disturbing DS when we come into bed and during the night so I’m beginning to wonder about putting him into his own room. As the evenings get lighter it’s annoying having to be showered by the time he goes to bed (shower is in the en-suite) as it would definitely wake him up. We have a video monitor and sensor mat but the SIDS risk is always at the back of my mind! I’m glad it’s working for you though :)

2littleboyzmum · 18/04/2020 16:42

Isaac is rolling back onto front properly now, but will only go front to back very rarely.

@forevercurious yeah I didn't want to move him until at least 5 months if not 6 months, but I was putting him in so much danger, we even considered moving his next to me crib away from our bed but I said I'd hate myself and never forgive myself if I sleep walked across the room to get him, then fell and killed him or seriously hurt him so the only option was in his own room. To be honest the sids risk is no different than them being in your room, if your asleep (like a deep sleep) you can't hear or see them. At least with the monitors you can keep an eye on your baby which at least allows you to sleep with a bit of security.

Fivebyfive2 · 18/04/2020 19:48

We're getting Joe's room ready in the next week or so. We're hoping to start putting him in his big cot for daytime naps first to get him used to it. Then once he's 6 months in June we'll move his night sleeps to there too. Dh has 2 weeks off around that time so we're waiting until then in case it's a bumpy transition!! I can't believe how fast it is coming around to be honest... I'll probably cry when we move him out of our room 😂

forevercurious · 29/04/2020 09:33

Hey :) how is everyone getting on?

Comps83 · 29/04/2020 10:16

I bought ds a jumperoo . He loves it . Cries to be in it . Was apprehensive about spending the money but it's been worth it

2littleboyzmum · 29/04/2020 10:28

Good, I chose earlier in the year to end my maternity early so I go back next week part time. I'm happy with the decision but slightly regretting it due to the virus as I didn't think at the time it would hit our country as bad as it has done. Everyone around me is petitioning to get a further 3 months off paid on there maternity leave as they feel it's been ruined. I don't really see maternity as a social thing though, it's time off to bring up your baby without the need to use childcare and so you can recover from birth for as long as needed. I suppose everyone sees it differently.

Also someone clarify kit day pay for me please? Should you get your maternity pay as well as a payment for the days work or does it just class as maternity pay? I spoke to payroll months ago who made it sound like I got paid on top of smp but when I got my payslip for this month I've not been paid for the days I've done this month?

Fivebyfive2 · 29/04/2020 10:47

Hi all!

@Comps83, ooo which jumperoo do you have? A lady in my NCT group has one and loves it, we're thinking of investing!

@forevercurious, how's your little one doing with sleep these days?

Joe is doing well, still trying to do back to front rolling. He loves shuffling about on his back too! He started sleeping better again last week, but this week he has conjunctivitis and a bit of a cold so it's kind of gone to pot again. But he's on the mend, seems happy today so hopefully we'll get back to the good sleep soon 🤞

Here's a pic his, dad took yesterday... My tiny newborn bag of chips has been replaced by this little fella 😀

Morning all :)

Very cute @Fivebyfive2 Grin scary how quick they grow.

We are good here, keep having a few days where he is unsettled & I think he is teething. Nothing to see though. Sleep is hit and miss, seems to sleep most of the night to be fair but he likes waking up at 5:30! Suppose I had better get used to it really. My LO also likes his bouncer/jumperoo thing, he has actually fell asleep in it a couple of times (oops).

jpaws · 29/04/2020 11:50

Forgot to say, still no rolling over here! Not for lack of trying though, he gets very frustrated.

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 29/04/2020 12:30

DD is doing well 👍
Still sleeping from 7:30pm-7am... ish

I'm boooooreed of lockdown.

Still no rolling over, can sort of get on her side from her back.still nowhere near front to back rolling. But I hardly bother with tummy time, so that might be why.

Her day naps are hit and miss really. Sometimes she'll go down,no bother and fall asleep. Others she'll wail as soon as she's put down... 🤷
