Hi All,

Thought I’d just start a December 2019 babies thread for those who have given birth in December and want to catchup/chat/rant/need support etc.

@Fivebyfive2 it's our jabs at 10am this morning too! I'm also dreading it as this is the first time I've had to go by myself. Virtual hand hold, hope it all goes fine.

Fivebyfive2 · 09/04/2020 10:55

@Teamthree, solidarity!! Good luck xxx

popgoesperfection · 09/04/2020 11:47

We have our last set next Tuesday, I'm sending dp in 🙈 lo keeps waking himself up last couple of nights rolling onto his tummy and getting stuck !!!!

Fivebyfive2 · 09/04/2020 15:46

How did you get on @Teamthree?

@popgoesperfection, aaahhh he's coming on rolling from back to front! Joe can do front to back (sometimes!) and looks like he trying back to front recently, but there yet!

Well, he screamed so much he spat up, but some calpol and a feed in the Dr's car park after calmed him down. He has spent the afternoon sleeping, feeding and crying, with pockets of happy time in between!

popgoesperfection · 09/04/2020 17:44

@Fivebyfive2 he only does it during the night thought 🙈 it's like he's subconsciously practicing haha aww bless him !! How is he now?

Teamthree · 09/04/2020 20:25

@Fivebyfive2 ah no so sorry that he got so upset! Hope he's feeling better now. Holly wasn't so bad to be honest, cried a load at the time but then a feed sorted her out and she's been surprisingly happy today! But to be honest the other sets never bothered her too much either so think we're just lucky that way. Pretty sure it bothers me more than her. Just so glad she hasn't got to have any more now till 1 year old! Sure that'll fly by!

Fivebyfive2 · 13/04/2020 07:40

Hi all, how's everyone getting on over this strange Easter weekend?

@Teamthree, Joe seems to have settled back down now but we had a turbulent couple of days of him being really fretful! How is Holly getting on?

@forevercurious, how's your little one doing with sleeping now? Are you still doing the sleep programme?

@popgoesperfection, that's interesting how he only rolls at night, maybe he's practising so he can surprise you in the day!

@AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps, how's your little one getting on with baths? Joe seems to actually enjoy them now 😀 we gave up trying to do relaxing evening baths, he just hated it! Now we do silly daytime baths 😂

All OK here, struggling not seeing family but what can you do? Sleep is going OK touch wood he's been doing 7 till 7 with 2 wake ups for feeds and is able to self settle alot of the time. Still no nap rourbut we're getting better at putting him down before he gets over tired. Tummy time isn't as much of an ordeal, I think because he knows he cal flip over when he's had enough! He was on his back on the rug this morning, I turned to get a vest and when I turned back he was on his side!! Definitely need to watch him like a hawk now 😂

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 13/04/2020 08:58

@Fivebyfive2 still just tolerating them! Has them every 3rd evening...

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 13/04/2020 09:01

Bit sleep is a dream! DD goes down around to 7:30-8:00 and sleeps through until 7-7:30.
If she does wake, 9/10 she'll go back to sleep in a few minutes. Only stays awake if hungry, and then goes back down with no fuss.

Fingers crossed for no regression 🙏🤞

forevercurious · 13/04/2020 09:13

@Fivebyfive2 and @AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps so very jealous of your nights sleep! it’s fair to say we are still trying to crack sleeping all night long. Last night he went from 7-12:30 and then was up 4 times between 12:30 and 7am. I try leaving him to self settle but he just doesn’t at night whereas he does in the day. Can I ask, are you babies breastfed? Only asking because a friend of mine is adamant that breast fed babies rarely sleep through the night until a lot later on.

So we were following the programme and then I felt I was becoming obsessed with his sleep and it was starting to affect my mental well-being so we decided to stop for a couple of days. He was still in the nap routine but we just let him sleep for as long as he liked. Well both of the days we done that he was awake for 2/3 hours in the middle of the night so yesterday we decided we’d start the programme again. DP is now at home so its easier to share the load of the routine etc with him. The programme said night sleep can get worse until he’s properly in the day routine and sleeping for the right amount of time so I’m holding onto that.

However, DS loves tummy time and bath time so that’s something 😂

Hope everyone had a lovely first Easter with their babies 🐣🐰

popgoesperfection · 13/04/2020 10:24

@Fivebyfive2 yes it's odd he is only doing it at night, was woke up this morning to him talking away to himself, on his tummy !! Haha
@forevercurious I was the same regarding sleep with ds1. Drove myself insane focusing on sleep and feed times, even used to keep a diary !! This time I have tried to relax however, as you say day time sleep affects night time sleep so I am very aware of trying to balance his naps out through the day, without driving myself mad. We have good and bad nights so nothing consistent yet.
Hope everyone had a good Easter !!

Fivebyfive2 · 13/04/2020 13:13

@forevercurious, Joe is breastfed. That's interesting about your little one self settling in the day but not at night, Joe is the opposite! I often end up feeding or rocking to sleep in the day, although he has started to self settle occasionally. At night, we go upstairs, change and feed etc. If he's awake after we do a story and then put him down with white noise and he usually goes off OK. He'll sleep until about 11, wake for a quick feed where he usually falls asleep on the boob. Then awake again about 3,he has a feed and we change his nappy, then he goes back down with his sounds on and sleeps until about 7ish. But I'm sure it will all change again soon!!

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 13/04/2020 15:07

No, moved exclusively to formula as DD wasn't getting enough milk from me, and I was getting very stressed about it all.

Teamthree · 13/04/2020 20:29

@Fivebyfive2 ah really glad to hear he's more settled. Holly kinda did the opposite, she had two days of great naps after her jabs, and so was much happier in the day, then went back to her (current) normal of catnapping and grumpiness! Lol.

We're really struggling with sleep at the min, seems we're in the throes of the 4 month sleep regression and I'm starting to worry it's never gonna change! It's been at least three weeks now of naps no longer than 40 mins and lots of wake ups in the night. She was going 6-8 hours before this started. I've read a few different sleep blogs and the message seems to contradict if whether this is a "phase" that will pass, or whether this change is permanent until bubs can properly self settle. We don't even have a decent stretch until midnight, she starts waking up every 30mins-2 hours from about 10pm and I'm really struggling with the lack of sleep now! She does self settle, but still with a dummy.

forevercurious · 14/04/2020 08:56

@Fivebyfive2 sounds like Joe is doing really well with his night sleep!

@Teamthree I’ve found exactly the same regarding the regression so I’ve decided to work on the self settling just incase it does help! I hope it passes for you quickly as it’s just awful isn’t it.

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 14/04/2020 10:53

Mine (17w1d) sleeps for 30 mins every 2 hours or so at the moment. And then around 12 hours overnight. She self settles at the moment🤞

Teamthree · 14/04/2020 12:11

@forevercurious yep it definitely sucks! Same to you, hope this settles down soon. We've still got 10 days of leap 4 according to the Wonder Eeeks app so I'm pining some hope on things improving once we're out of that!

@AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps that's great for the night sleep! Does your LO use a dummy to help self settle? My LG is 17+2 Smile

The nap thing also confuses me, because some blogs say short naps are okay and others say that are not good enough to help babies refresh in the day. As always contradictory. But I do know that my LG is a huge grump by the end of the day when she catnaps. And often wakes up upset after 40 mins, but I'm lost with what else I could do to help her nap longer.

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 14/04/2020 12:38

No dummy here.
She sometimes just goes back to sleep. Sometimes sucks her fingers. Don't want to have to keep putting dummy in, itgeriyi can't rest!

Fivebyfive2 · 14/04/2020 12:59

I do worry that Joe only self settles some of the time, but I try telling myself that it's a big improvement from a few weeks ago when he couldn't do it at all, so at least it's the right direction?? Nap length, also confused here! Sometimes he has a few short naps, other times one or two longer ones, but like you say how to get them to always have longer naps?? I'm also a tad worried our regression might crop up in a few weeks, maybe it's delayed because of him coming a month early?? Who knows!! Just powering on at the moment and hoping we're doing the right things 🤞

popgoesperfection · 14/04/2020 12:59

Wow @AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps that's amazing night time sleep!! Is that without any wake ups in between ?

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 14/04/2020 13:27

She probably wakes up twice in the night? But doesn't "need" anything usually. She just goes back to sleep after a few minutes of babbling/grunting/whatever.

Occasionally she'll want feeding at 1:30ish or 5:30ish but will go back to sleep straight after.

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 14/04/2020 13:28

I suspect that if she was in her own room I'd have no idea when she woke up in the night!!!

Teamthree · 14/04/2020 13:57

@AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps yep that's definitely part of our problem with the dummy. We're currently transitioning out of her love to dream swaddle so the dummy is helping with that, but then I think it's got to go. At 40 mins into her naps she spits the dummy out which wakes her up, and then obviously can't put it back in herself so starts crying and is fully awake by that point, so the nap is over. And I'm constantly putting it back in at night.

@Fivebyfive2 that's definitely great progress!

jpaws · 15/04/2020 08:42

Morning all,
@AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps that is a cracking nights sleep!

My lo naps about 3 or 4 times through the day and if he only has like 20 mins he is usually a bit grumpier than if he has a longer nap. He was that grumpy the other day I took him for a walk in the pram and then he slept in it for a good two hours (left him in it when I got back home). Bright as a button afterwards. I think we have hit a bit of a regression though as he has woken up through the night a couple of times the past 4/5 days. Although once he is changed and fed he will settle himself back down, sometimes he is practically asleep still on the bottle - which is a nightmare burping him. He also has a dummy which helps him through the daytime naps but I don't put it back in on a night time unless he absolutely wont settle down.

Anyone miss being pregnant? I could quite easily have another one straight away but really need to lose some of the weight gain first which is taking an age.

popgoesperfection · 15/04/2020 09:44

@Teamthree dummy is also our problem, popping it back in all night!! I'm reluctant to get rid though 🙈
Yeah @jpaws I totally miss my bump, I'm already trying to bribe oh into having a third (he isn't having any of it) haha but my body is a wreck after this pregnancy ☹️
