Gosh very quiet today.

I sympathize Lal. I only have the 1 LO and I still never have enough time

Quick question. Do you guys wash things like new clothes/bedding etc. before using them? I always used to wash everything new, but my mum seems to think this is unnecessary. What do you think?

Awwww are you sure you can't come down to London Wilkie? Boo.

Wilkie · 29/07/2007 19:25

Well it is my 1 year anniversary today Didnt get many cards cos of the postal strike yesterday booo!!! DH worked all day so I went to M&D but we are having a child free day tomorrow to celebrate when the PILs have J.

Shimmer - I never wash anything clothes/bedding wise before I use it - never have done. Just stuff like bowls/spoons/cups etc.

Sorry but I really cannot make the meet up. Maybe later on in the year if we do one when I am back at work.

Vino - have seriously knackered my knees up doing that aeroplane lef exercise thing. I have had real difficulty walking (seriously, not funny and haven't been able to bend at the knees for two days). Has anyone else found their joints weaker since having a baby?? My left wrist joint is terrible too and has been since he was born. It keeps locking and is extremely painful at time but I really don't know why???

Where is everyone tonight????????

Only the 3rd post all weekend!!!!!!

Had a busy busy weekend worked till 1 yesterday, DH took Ellie swimming whilst Hattie stayed with nanny. Then yesterday afternoon was the annual river festival (basically loads of decorated boats all along the River Medway and small funfair etc) since we live right by the river we walked down and saw the boats Ellie loved a boat that had a penguin theme and we watched the canoe/raft race etc.

I went out on impromptu night out with brothers girlfriend last nigt meal at Frankie and Benny's then we went to see 'Hairspray' which was funny and a really good night, except i got home at 12 and DH had fallen asleep on the new sofa with red wine in his hand and spilt it and although we paid to have the stain protection i can't get it off so need to call DFS tomorrow. Spent most of today tidying/putting bits in loft/sorting clothes etc and Hattie been a real miserable grump 3 poos, lots of crying and lots of gum rubbing but no teeth. Ellie has been fairly well behaved this weeken we have introduced some 'house rules' and she seems to be understanding them and we have been really trying to give her priase for good things (its hard to do consistently!)

I assume you have all had busy weekends which is why its been so quiet on here??

eandh · 29/07/2007 19:28

oops x post 4th post!!!!

VinoRouge · 29/07/2007 19:47

Hello! I don't know wherelast week let alone this weekend has gone. We are having our first ever night without Ellen. I cried when I left her at my mums earlier. Tomorrow is first day back at work. Mum made a lovely raost beef lunch for us earlier. She will bring E back tomorrow and pick me up from work at the same time.

Yesterday went to hawes in the dales to meet up with pil who were camping, there was a folk festival so we watched morris dancers and listened to music in the sunshine. Drove a really long way home though so late back and been knackered today.

theUrbanDryad · 29/07/2007 20:28

hi everyone - blimey it has been quiet on here today!

we've been away since yesterday to the glamourous location of Ashby de la Zouche to celebrate my mum's birthday. we stayed in the noisiest hotel ever though - with possibly the rudest recpetionist on the planet! they had a wedding on, and when we went to check in, the stupid woman was saying "We'll be having a live band on till midnight," so i said, "Is it going to be noisy in our room?" and she said, "Well, we do tend to have live bands on Friday and Saturday." so i said, "well, yes, but is it going to be noisy?" and she said really patronisingly, "Yes, it is likely to be." stupid bitch! so we moved to a different room, which didn't have the cot they were supposed to be providing, fortunately we'd brought our travel cot, but no sheets. so dh went down to the reception to ask for some sheets, and she started making a phone call while he was still talking to her! so he stropped off, and i went down to talk to her, explained the situation, and that we just needed one single sheet, and could we have one please? and she just said, "Well we do have this wedding on." so i said, "well, if you haven't got the staff to cover your events, you shouldn't be taking on guests as well, should you?" and she said (wait for it) "If you're going to be rude, i can have you thrown out!!!!" pshock]

ok - i've worked in the hotel and catering industry for a long time, it was what i did before i got into optics. there is no way you should speak to a guest like that, unless they're in your face shouting and screaming. if a guest asks for something like an extra sheet to be brought to their room (not exactly time consuming) then you say yes of course, and get someone to do it! it doesn't matter who! the kitchen staff can do it if they're free! just get the thing the geust asked for to them as quickly as possible!!

anyway, as if that wasn't bad enough, the music didn't even stop till half midnight, and there were kids outside our window running around and shouting. consequently, Zac slept absolutely rubbish (didn't get him to sleep till midnight) he's not had proper naps today because of being in the buggy all day, and now he's being a total nightmare to put down! dh is upstairs with him at the moment, all i can hear is Z whingeing and dh ineffectually going Ssssh. he's probably got his laptop up there and is totally ignoring Z. AAAAAARRRRRRRGH! i'm so stressed out!!!!

sorry for ranty long post. am so wound up and pissed off with everything at the moment. need wine.

geoRGEEweasley · 29/07/2007 21:26

Hi folks

Just back from our wedding in West Sussex. Near Petford in West Sussex (near Lizz and LTH??). Had a FAB time, helped by free bar. Not too hungover though but DH wasn't feeling too hot this morning. Consequently I was left with four kids on my own(aged 6,5, 2 and 7 months) whilst dsis and bil had a lie in, and dh nursed his head. LTh - four kids - much reeespect. Telly really is a good babysitter

Vino, hope all goes well tomorrow. I've brought my work start date forward to a week tomorrow as lo never gave me a second glance at nursery when her eyes lit up at the vast array of toys. Still coming to London though so hope to see some of you there.

Really busy week this week. Includes the first visit for lo to the docs tomorrow to check out the really dry patches on the back of her knees. She also had bloody poo this evening (tmi?) but she didn't seem too concerned. Must check that out. Then dentist for me on Tues - boo!

VinoRouge · 29/07/2007 21:58

UD what a rude receptionist. Sonds like she needs to get thrown out and fired. Enjoying some vino rouge by any chance???

Rgee glad you enjoyed wedding. talk of bad heads reminded me I went out on fri night and got home at 1.30am!!! Woke at 6 on Sat so wasn't too bright yesterday. Got chatted up by a young boy who asked what me and my friend did (ie job) when I said we were mums he was very bemused. I didn't feel so smug at being chatted up when my friend told me the boys friend had told her his mate was desperate!

I'm still coming to London too but going to be like rgee and leave lo in nursery. Wilkie am you can't make it, sorry our train didn't go through newark.

Tonights excitement has been my first ever purchase from ebay - a baby bouncer. I got signed in and everything then searched, there was one with 3 mins left he he he. Then I found out they only took paypal so had to set that up too.

Spoke to mum - ellen went to bed happily there.

Wilkie · 29/07/2007 22:04

UD - write to the manager. Did you get her name?? Seriously, write a letter to the manager explainins your dissatisfaction. Stupid bint.

Vino - MMmmmmmmmmmmmmm roast beef and great that Ellen went down no probs. Can you ask your dad if he needs me to email over the names (and spellings) of everyone directly involved with the christening. Ta.

EAH

RGee - wedding with free bar. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

We have cracked open a bottle of bubbly to celebrate our champagne and am feeling a bit pissed

Wilks - 1stly - what on earth were you doing on MN last night when it was your anniversary!? 2ndlly re stiff joints. Every morning my legs are SO stiff I can hardly walk down the stairs its really weird.
Shimmer - I ALWAYS wash bedding & baby clothes, and sometimes our clothes before wearing them. They smell, plus if they were manufactured aboard you dont know what kind of dead/alive bugs could be waiting for you!
UD - which hotel was it you stayed in? I think we should all ring up and book rooms on the same weekend to muck up their system when we dont turn up!
Rgee - I live in East Sussex, not as posh as the west!
Vino - well done on ebay win. Beware its addictive!
EaH - bummer about your sofa. I'd be furious.
We had DP's family down all weekend and went for a posh meal on Saturday night (LTH - can heartily recommend Hungry Monk, they have private dining rooms so you can take LO's...if you want to!) we also had a BBQ on Sunday! Yes, it was blazing sunshine here all day yesterday. Did some bonding with SIL to be, who is lovely - sorted her tits out in Debenhams 38b to a 36FF!!!! And we had a bitch about MIL to be. She has lots of very visible whiskers on her chin, and no one tells her to do something about it. Not my place as newbie to the family, but I think someone else should say something to her!
DJ is upstairs sleeping at the moment, and he is crying his head off even though he is totally asleep. Very odd.

JodieG1 · 30/07/2007 09:19

Had a lovely weekend here. Dh went to paintball on Sat with some workmates and we all went out in the evening. Mum and dad babysat and Ethan slept really well while we were out some bloke said I had lovely legs Made me feel good hehe.

Sunday we all went to Wicksteed park, stayed there all day and had a fab time. Lovely weather and it still is now. Thinking of going to the beach at the weekend if it stays like this.

eandh · 30/07/2007 09:29

Lizz that restaurant sounds fab!!

I am having a quick sneak on here at Boss is in ameeting we have my half year performance review this afternoon - can't work out what we are assessing as I dint work for the netire half year???? I am assuming we'll be discussing quarter 3 and 4 targets and yawn yawn more boring stuff (mmmm maybe he'll give me a huge pay rise??????????????????????)

E and H are at my mums today just phoned and Hattie asleep and E is having a pampering session my mum has painted her toes (Ellie chose a pale pink thankfully) and then she wants my mum to put her hair in velcro rollers and she is desperatley trying to persuade my Mum that she shoulf let her have lipstick on!!

DH sent me a random text this morning saying we should have another baby eeeek, I think I'll wait and see what sort of toddler Hattie turns out to be but realistically I am not sure I want a 3rd

laughalot · 30/07/2007 09:45

Eah get bonking and have another

eandh · 30/07/2007 10:42

lal maybe thats the part putting me off

theUrbanDryad · 30/07/2007 11:48

awww go on EAH you know you want to! just think, you might have a cute little boy for E and H to coo over! my dh wants another one too - or maybe he just wants to practise!

very windy here today - inside the house and outside! Z is doing massive farts then crying, so i don't know if it's hurting him or he's just upset that he's farting! he can nearly crawl too, does a weird sort of nose shuffle!

Lizzz - are you getting married? did i miss that post? congratulations, if you are! btw - getting married is a nightmare. take my advice, and get your two best friends, take them away somewhere nice, get married in secret then just tell yours and dp's parents. they'll get over that a lot quicker than all the family feuding that goes on over the preparation of a wedding! with hindsight, i wish that's what we'd done!

2Happy · 30/07/2007 11:55

Vino - good luck for today, hope it goes ok x
UD - what a mare! No point being that rude, it's only a sheet FFS you weren't asking for much (esp since you were providing the flipping cot!)
Wilkie - happy anniversary! My dsis got really bad sore/swollen joints after her dd esp in her hands, wore off after a while, I'll ask her how long. She didn't get it this time with ds tho
Shimmer - I always wash lo's clothes/bedding before using, but not ours. Well maybe bedding, but not clothes anyway.
Lizzz - lol at mil-to-be's beard!

Glad everyone sounds like they had a good weekend. We were in Aberdeen at a wedding, haven't been back there for 6 years, so it was really nice to see it again. ds2 was really good which I was relieved at since I had to work hard to persuede the bride to let him be there. But, like UD, had about the worst night's sleep ever. The hotel was in the city centre and with the new licensing laws there were pissed people all night and lots of skrievers (?sp) and since we're used to the only noise at night being the randy bull in the field opposite we barely got a couple of hour's. ds2 slept through it all, no idea how! So glad we didn't have ds1 since there's no way on earth he would have slept through it. He was at PILs and must have had a whale of a time since I had to wake him up at 9am this morning!!!!

ds1 has had conjunctivitis this week, so horrid having to pin him down to put the drops in. He's getting better, but now ds2's eye is a bit crusty. I dare say I'll catch it just in time for going back to work next week

ds2 has had some carrots (didn't seem fussed by them) some bread (grabbed my roll at the wedding, mostly spat soggy bread out onto my lap) and grass (he grabbed a handful when my mum was "looking after" him...I know it went in because I found a pile in his nappy!!! ) to eat so far. I think I might do BLW in the afternoons, but puree in the morning because it's so slow!!! I am totally impatient, and it would help if he would get enough solids in the morning that on the 2 days I work the mornings he can manage without milk until lunchtime. So this week I will mostly be making parsnip and carrot puree! Can't believe I'm back to work next week . Though I phoned work last week and they said "see you tuesday"...I said "umm, I'm back on monday actually" so I think I might have a quiet first day back!

Lizzzombie · 30/07/2007 13:02

2 happy - havent tried parsnips yet, but LO loves carrot puree. Had to laugh as post restaurant we went to on Saturday night served us a big bowl of it.
Only problem with it is that it stains everything orange. Does anyone know how to get it out? I was just going to add some vanish in wash to it. Very non eco/baby friendly though!

2Happy · 30/07/2007 14:24

Hmm well he doesn't seem much enamoured with carrot puree either. He said something along the lines of "mmmffnnthhththththblrphfth" and spat the lot out. Happy to chew the spoon, my jumper, the bowl, but every time a morsel of carrot passed his lips, the whole lot came out again. It's only a year and a half ago but I really can't remember how it went with ds1, but I thought he just went onto solids without turning a hair - I remember being disappointed that he showed no reaction at all to his first mouthful. I somehow think I don't stand much chance of getting him onto one good meal a day in a week

eandh · 30/07/2007 14:49

Maybe worth trying mixing it with another veg 2happy? Hattie wouldnt eat single veg puree but mix a few flavours together and hey presto she was off (and mil is convinced she has that prada willis syndrome as she would constantly eat all day given half the chance!!!) Pmsl at the grass though

Right better dash as time for my half year review

laughalot · 30/07/2007 15:24

Yep just bung a whole lot of veg together 2happy. Lauren refused breakfast but will have veg puree for lunch and then a rusk with pureed veg about 4. I have pureed today brocolli, cauliflower, carrots and green beans. Carrot and parsnip is good or butternut squash.

laughalot · 30/07/2007 15:25

Got that one right round my neck I mean she refuses breakfast all the time and at 4 she has a rusk with pureed fruit.

laughalot · 30/07/2007 15:27

Just seen on the march 08 thread that mumofmonsters is pg YIPPEE.

2Happy · 30/07/2007 15:39

That's FANTASTIC news. Fingers, toes, eyes crossed for her x

Lizzzombie · 30/07/2007 15:54

2Happy - I used Hipp organic carrot & sweetcorn puree, mixed in with baby rice for the first week, gradually mixing in my own carrot puree, and decreasing the baby rice until now he will have just the hipp stuff mixed with my carrot, or just my carrot.
Am going to try sweet potato next, and add that to the hipp stuff with the carrot.
Tried banana this morning (again) doing the baby rice and banana thing & also just banana. He just spits it out. Great success with pear though. Gobbles that up on its own now! (and I have the nappies to prove it!)
no one told me dirty nappy output would increase SO much now he is on more than milk. We had FIVE poos yesterday, and today he did 2 in an hour!
