Apologies if anyone has started this - I can't see one anywhere. Thought we could all meet up here to discuss our newborn darlings.
My little man is doing well - this is day five (I think!). He is feeding well but my nipples are sore - am sure my latch is OK but I suppose it can't be. MW comes tomorrow so will ask her. He's got lots of wet and dirty nappies so milk must be going down OK. He feeds lots in the day and then about 3 times between 8pm-8am. Slept from 2.30am to 8am today. Feeling proud of self as managed trip to playgrund this morning with him in sling and dd in buggy. Managed a 45 min play and about 30 min walk and he slept the whole time. It's as scary going out the first time with him as it was with dd!

Anyway, will stop whittering! Had a few tears (mine) yesterday as I was looking at him and thinking how lucky I am to have two lovely children. Couldn't stop crying. Hormones, hey?
How are the rest of you doing? Wonder who'll be next to pop? Highlander has her section on Monday, I think.....

My ds has had a sipper cup from 6mths and can drink really well from it now. He is however completely non mobile and thinks solid food is for chumps. Amazing how different they are isnt it.

fredly · 30/06/2005 10:22

They are, my dd is a really good eater, rarely leaves anything on her plate, but when it comes to finger food, she just looks at it, thinks (very loudly!) "what's that?!" and throws it on the floor!

mandyc66 · 30/06/2005 12:45

DS4 is sitting up!!!!!!! Went to toddlers and was chatting to someone..I said no he doesnt sit up ,just falls over...sat him up to demonstrate...still sitting 15mins later!!!!!!!
Think I saw a tooth poking its way out too!!!! Eats everything around but he isnt sure about finger food yet!!! My big ones were eating toasted sandwiches by 7 months..but you started them on solids earlier back then!!!!!

fredly · 30/06/2005 13:59

i just found this thread too. My boy was born 13th Sep 04. He is beautiful, especially now his horrible eczema has gone. He's had a bit of a rough road too with dairy and gluten allergy, and maybe egg, not sure about it yet. But he's very happy and enjoying life. He has seven teeth! And just starting to crawl, rather hit and miss still tho.

mandyc66 · 01/07/2005 14:19

my ds has his own crawling technique which he is perfecting. Gets on all fours then kind of launces forward and flat then up on all fours again!! he does move forward!!!!
I am totally besotted!!!!

angelkiss · 01/07/2005 23:36

hi!

I've just found this thread as just joined mn today. so hope it's ok to join?

my dd was born 7th september 2004 and can crawl very fast (but with one knee down, one foot down!) is cruising the furniture and wants to break your back making you walk with her any chance she gets. so doing really well on that front!

however, food is a totally different ball game! we're still on very pureed stuff as she just gags when lumps are introduced! will eat a tiny bit of toast, cucumber & cherry. and has to be completely distracted at most mealtimes to even eat the puree!

she will drink out of an avent cup (with valve) but am wondering if i should introduce cup without valve for water at least? any ideas?
what about changing from bottle to cup for milk (she has bottle mid morning, mid afternoon & evening)?

Love being a mummy and dd is soooo fab...just the eating thing stressing me out a bit!

good to read about all the other babies!

mandyc66 · 02/07/2005 07:07

Dont stress about eating. Infact dont stress fullstop!!! enjoy what she does do, it all lasts such a short time! Be led by her offer her lumpy food but have pureed on standby. Mash it with a fork so its less lumpy.I cant say about weaning of bottle as I have never used one, but if she is happy to drink from a cup during the day, then give her it

not really stressing! think it's because everything else seems to have come so easy and everywhere I keep reading that she should be eating this, that and basically everything she isn't!! it took us a long time to get ds (3 miscarriages and an ectopic) so we do enjoy every minute. she is so funny, especially as she's now on the move and chatters away constantly, both to herself and us or in fact anyone/thing that will listen!

NotQuiteCockney · 02/07/2005 09:44

I've not posted here before, but my DS2 was a September (24th) baby. He started crawling yesterday, after ages and ages of going backwards and getting pissed off.

He's eating really well, but only finger foods. He doesn't like to be fed at all. He'll tolerate it sometimes, if I'm lucky. He drinks well from a sports bottle, less so from a beaker.

9 months is such a lovely age. Well, I like everything after 6 months, but I really enjoy the babbling, the sitting, the grabbing everything, and the moving.

angelkiss · 02/07/2005 09:47

sorry meant dd not ds!! this is all new...especially the abbreviations!

mandyc66 · 02/07/2005 18:47

glad you arent stressing!!!! DS4 actually drank from a cup this morning!! I think he is normal but listening to how well your lot are doing he is reqally very backward!!!!!! but with 3 big brothers and a big sister to run around after him why should he do anything!!!! Plus there is never enough floor space to move!!!!

charleepeters · 05/07/2005 15:01

I just want o announce im so proud of DS he took his first step unaided yesterday!!!!!!!!! he was fast aswell Dp let go of him to see if he would balance and he took off across FIL'S conservatory!!!!!!!!!! I got him wieghed today and he is 17lb 4oz and doing really well - how are the rest of you getting on were very quiet on this thread!

fredly · 05/07/2005 17:45

oh i'm so jealous !! my dd is nowhere near crawling yet so please tell me she's not the only one on that thread !! she's never been physical, she's a long and thin baby. At the moment she's very good at rolling onto her side, getting stuck and screaming "mummy please help !!" (well actually it sounds more like "nininininini!!"). On the plus side she eats really well, everything, sleeps really well (12 hours at night and on average 3 hours during the day) and is always in a good mood. So there !!

mandyc66 · 05/07/2005 22:16

ds4 has got a tooth!! kind of moves across the floor..a bit like a slug!!!!
Decided he is backward!!!! (only joking!!!) My friends baby born the day after is crawling sitting herself up etc. Mine just rolls laughs, eats laughs, sleeps laughs!!!!!!!!

fairycakes · 05/07/2005 23:09

Hello everyone

ruty, dd was also born on 13th sept!

she started crawling properly yesterdy - after weeks of getting around randomly and trying very hard to crawl! she took me by surprise, i went into the kitchen, and she followed me! got the shock of my life!
found this afternoon very stressful as, im sure like most babies, she keeps crawling to the one bit of the room i'd rather she didnt as there are sharp corners etc so keep picking her up and putting her other side of room - but she just cralws straigh back.

she has now got 8 teeth! the last 6 came all at once almost but they are all through now.

having problems with drinks/beakers etc she doesnt like to drink anything other than milk, very rarely will accept some juice. and she definitely wont drink out of anything other than a bottle/teat - any suggestions PLEASE??!! i keep trying with beakers and soft spouts on bottles but no good. she also cant hold bottle herself, how can i encourage her?

can anyone give me ideas fo finger foods? i give her sticks of cheese, slices of peach, bits of bread, and rice cakes but i cant think of anything else and she only likes the cheese out of what i have tried.

sleeping is now awful, fantastic til 7 months she slept from 7pm-8am now she refuses to go to bed and wakes up at midnight and then 5am and will not go back to sleep then.

also finding her to be very very clingy which is very hard work.......dont get me wrong i love being a mum but finding it very hard work at the moment!

oh, and she bites, scratches, kicks and smacks me in the face, is this normal?????!!!!!!

fairycakes · 05/07/2005 23:11

sorry so long, think i am having a bad day!!

mandyc66 · 05/07/2005 23:32

have you tried using a staw insted of a spout? Sounds mad but babies are used to sucking!!
Its hard at the clingy stage, but its just because they know you are there or not there!!!

charleepeters · 06/07/2005 11:38

Fairycakes - Ds wont drink from a cup very well he will take a bit from tesco's bottle to cup trainer but he more chews the spout than sucks at it.

finger foods- bits of toast with marmite - cucumber - breadsticks - any fruit or veg (except onions and chillis!) biscuits occasionally.

DS has no teeth yet so im still enjoying those gummy smiles but there really close to the suface so wont be long i imagine!

how much do you all you rbabie weigh now? - dont worry im not starting a competition or anything just owndering
DS is 17lb 5oz - hes on 4th percentile for wieght and 4th for hieght - little man!

mandyc66 · 06/07/2005 13:41

as I said before not sure of weight will weigh him at bath time!!! Quite heavy to carrry!!!
Ds4 drank with a straw yesterday thought it was funny. Shows no interest in drinking normally!! his one little tooth is getting more obvious! Oh and I found a baby pic of me and he looks like me!!!!! Finally a baby that looks like me!!!!!

angelkiss · 06/07/2005 15:50

DD is crawling everywhere (especially the places where I'd prefer her not to!) and walking around the furniture...she's trying to get clever taking 1 hand/arm off so maybe it won't be long now?? Her little friend is 6 days older than her and has been walking unaided for 2-3 weeks!
She has 5 teeth and at least 1 more on the way that I can see.
Eating is improving slowly...we've tried toast with marmite, strawberries (VERY messy but seems to like them), nectarine (after she took a bite of mine!), kiwi fruit and banana. have also bought some Organix bread sticks but not tried them yet. Have abandoned home cooking at the moment and am mixing Stage 1 jars with Stage 2 to get her used to lumps, instead of gagging all the time!!
Good to hear what all the babies are up to...It's amazing how babies pretty much the same age can all be so different!

charleepeters · 06/07/2005 16:11

here is a pic of ds's first steps - im so pround i was worried when he didnt show any interest in crawling but here he is! in the sapce of 2 weeks hes learnt to pull himself up and walk!

angelkiss · 06/07/2005 19:05

ahhhhh, what a sweetie

don't understand why you've had negative comments...some people are odd!
