I know, it's driving me mental this laptop, every other time I click I get this

Unable to connect

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.mumsnet.com.

  • The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
    moments.

  • If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
    connection.

  • If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

then when I connect to someone else's wireless over the road it refreshes and does it again, tis making me a tad annoyed. It doesn't do it to DH, he says I have a strange effect on electronic equipment

Have you tried said calendular on your hands? I think the best thing for dry crackly fingers is to use VERY gentle soap minimally, and avoid things that bring them into contact with products. Dishwashers are fab, as is the handwash setting on the machine My friend swears by neutrogina, it is very good, it's so rich it's sort of waxy so you don't need much and it's cheap.

LadyTophamSortingHatt · 15/07/2007 09:59

MrsC...you have laptop?/

that not very lentil weaverish??

I thought you'd be using a carrier pigeon to get the post to MNHQ

GobletOfRouge · 15/07/2007 10:33

LTH thats ace news about your house. More cleaning to do when you move then??? Wonder whether that hall carpert will need a good going over too....I slept in cloth gloves last night and hands slathered in hand cream, does the trick for my dry crackly hands (what an onomatopeiaic(sp?) description btw mrsc)

dh gone off to play golf. friend coming round in a bit and we'll go into town for a wander and some lunch, just got a few things do whilst we're there.

lo asleep upstairs, well she was last time I checked!

e&h - after a pureetastic day yesterday I have a freezer full of food cubes for ellen so her meals should be a breeze now...providing I can decide what to give her

TheChamberofCarrots · 15/07/2007 10:39

Pigeons???

Get in character old wrinkly hat

we use owls now

TheChamberofCarrots · 15/07/2007 10:40

did you really sleep in gloves, Vino, was it annoying?

TheChamberofCarrots · 15/07/2007 10:42

a third duplicate post has appeared after the oops, that wasn't there before was it?

Something weird going on around here

GobletOfRouge · 15/07/2007 10:52

gloves aren't too bad. i slather up with cream before putting them off which sticks them to me, by the time they fall off (if they do) cream all absorbed. I use a pair from the body shop. I do the same with a pair of socks if my tootsies need some tlc!

TheChamberofCarrots · 15/07/2007 10:55

ew, not sure if I could sleep with slimy socks on, does it make a significant difference?

GobletOfRouge · 15/07/2007 10:57

for hands yes, feet prob not

lo now awake and seems to be bothered by tooth there is a lot of crying going on

theUmbridgeDryad · 15/07/2007 13:32

hi everyone...

well, i've discovered the reason for Zac's extreme irritation over the past few weeks - he has not one, not two but three teeth coming through! two at the bottom and one at the top! poor lamb, feel really bad for holding him at arms length and shouting WHAT DO YOU WANT now! still, he's finally asleep in his buggy now. dh doing the washing up, all well in the Urban household.

i use a hemp handcream, i got it from the Body Shop years ago (before i found out what a crock of shite it is, and now boycott it, along with most everything else )and it's still going strong. not sure you could still get it now, but it comes in a silvery tube with a black cap.

i've dyed my hair purple, it looks quite cool but it's a bit more purple than i thought it was gonna be!! i'm going to embarass Zac so much when he starts school. Jacqueline Wilson may write a whole new book about me.

BellaTrixyLestrange · 15/07/2007 16:30

Well have had a bit of an eventful weekend.

Started weaning DS. I really don't think I have the bottle for BLW as DS started gagging almost immediately and gave me a heart attack. Is anybody else doing BLW? Jodie/UD did your LO's gag immediately?

Then while sitting out in the garden earlier on today DS made a grab for my DH's ice cream.

My DH went in to get something to wipe it off as it was everywhere as DS had grabbed his legs and ankles.

Before my DH came back out DS had come up in a bright red rash with white bumps like a nettle rash particularly on his hands and where he'd wiped most of it onto his legs.

We took DS to the out of hours GP and she said it was most likely a reaction to the sun rather than to the ice cream.

Now we've just came back from holiday where DS was exposed to much more sun and didn't get any kind of rash.

I'm more convinced it was the ice-cream, but the doctor said that wasn't possible. I am quite of how dismissive she was.

Wilkie - cannot believe your DS is crawling already!! I'm hoping my DS stays immobile as long as possible!!

LTH - my you've been busy!!

Can't remember who else posted as not using the proper notepad technique, but hi to everyone else!!

geoRGEEweasley · 15/07/2007 16:31

Afternoon all. Is it wet and miserable where you are too? Am sooo bored with this rain. But the sun did shine over York racecourse yesterday afternoon, particularly over DH who won on three races so paid for my afternoon out too plus some evening drinks (and hopefully tonght's takeaway) . Had a lovely day yesterday. This morning when lo woke up, mil came in and took her away so DH and I didn't get up until 10am. Bliss! So why do I feel knackered?

LTH brill news about the house move. Is this your final move or will you move again when you have no5

Wilkie v v impressed at the crawling! If not slightly scared at the thought too!
Have you found a carpet?

Jodie hope this weekend has been an improvement on last week. Got to agree with you all about some people spoiling for a fight on MN. So tedious.
Will turn down the invite to a club. As others have suggested, I'm much happier in the corner of a quiet bar where I can hear coversations. Unless I'm really hammered, but that's a different story.

Vino hope your DH had a good game of golf in the pi$$ing down rain. DH did comment earlier that he was glad he wasn't playing today after all! Did you buy anything in town?
I too had a mad pureeing day at the back end of last week and now have such a selection I can't decide. So for tomorrow, please place your bets on either: carrot, parsnip, squash and apple, chicken, sweet potato, brocolli, courgette (from frozen) or banana, mango, melon, weetabix from fresh. Or any combinations.

UD purple hair! Photo please!!

Carrot - sandwich posting - I liked! How did you do that?

EAH was there a final list of people coming to London for our meet up?

HEllo to everyone else out there.

JodieG1 · 15/07/2007 17:07

Afternoon all. Just have 5 mins while dh baths Ethan. Had a lovely roast dinner, pancakes and have some cupcakes waiting for the frosting to set Been busy today having a clean and tidy up. I avoided MN yesterday as I was still so pissed off but I'm feeling calmer now lol, thanks for the messages re that thread.

Well done again J for crawling, Ethan's right behind him having moved a few spaces forwards but he can't quite get moving any further than than yet. He keeps putting his leg up like he's trying to push back to sitting so I think he's confusing himself hehe.

Dd's eyes still look quite red from after her operation so think I'm going to have to call the consultant up tomorrow and they seem to be turning in more again so I hope they won't need anything more doing to them.

Is anyone else really hot today? It's so hot and humid here.

GobletOfRouge · 15/07/2007 17:54

Jodie - as Rgee says its def not humid here in Leeds just wet, wet and wet. It has been humid until today though. Good job Dh got our new turf laid yesterday.

Rgee - DH enjoyed his golf and was only beaten by 3 shots. He is asleep now - golf, lunch and 2 pints taken it out of him. We lunched separately. Me, Ellen and my friend Suzanne had roast beef followed by choc brownie in browns. Yum!

Rgee/Wilkie - I've just ordered one of those hauck strollers too. that brings my pushchair tally to 3. oops. Also ordered a high chair for my mums house so there will be one for use at our next visit. It might be one in one out one in one out one in one out!

Trixy - sounds far more likely to be ice-cream. Poor thing if thats caused a rash! I'm thinking of not being able to enjoy ice-cream....

laughalot · 15/07/2007 17:59

Right I shall start off by saying ds pics are on my profile from his birthday. He had a lovely day despite it rained all day and even better his card got shown on Cbeebies which I was so excited about even more so than him.

I havent had chance to catch up what with work it was strange but I felt after about a hour that I had never been away from the place . Whats with all the name changing I dont know who you all are. Must admit im not a harry potter fan .

Well I did read jodie and wilks posts people are mad on mnet no need for the way some people go off on one there is no point in asking peoples opinions on things these days.

Well enjoy the rest of your weekend ill catch up tmoz xxxx

GobletOfRouge · 15/07/2007 18:04

Just looked back at an old thread and those coming to the meet up seem to be:-

Lizz
Vino
Rgee
EandH
Shimmer
Jodie
UD
MrsC
Hattie05

Query
LTH - You brave enough?
Wilkie - wasn't sure about you but I hope you are coming!!!

BellaTrixyLestrange · 15/07/2007 18:21

Rgee - it was beautifully sunny here up until about 2 hours ago and is now pissing it down.

Lal - I would have been sooo excited to get my card on tv when I was little!!!

eandh · 15/07/2007 19:47

Well we were up at 6am and thought it was going to be a crap day as it was pouring down and a thunderstorm but by 8am it was brilliant sunshine and it has been boiling all day (Ellie been walking around in shorts and vest top and Hattie been in a nappy and short sleeve tshirt as was to hot in anything else)

Had IL's and dh nan here for roast dinner and a catch up so that was nice (although Ellie went into showing off mode)

We've been decorating the conservatory and trying to decide whether to change the rooms round and make dining room playroom and conservatory the dining room but we just cant decide

SeverusShimmerus · 15/07/2007 20:19

Evening all. OMG I'm knackered this evening! Don't even have the energy to make anything to eat (most unlike me i love my grub!) Had a really busy weekend and not a lot of sleep recently. Freddie's been sleeping really badly the last few nights. Last night he had 2 night feeds, which we havn't done since he was really tiny. I've been feeding him non-stop today though so fingers crossed thats filled him up enough to see him though the night.

Jodie I read your thread. Glad you've calmed down about those stupid comments now. I would have been upset too. Some people are just out to make trouble. All you can do is ignore them.

Thats an impressive list of purees RGee! I've got to do some cooking for F tomorrow. I'm going to try that first chicken cassorole from AK, as F hasn't had any meat yet. Think it was PCF who mentioned about her LO prefering fruit. F definitely does now too! When we started out I only gave him veg for a while, but now he's had fruit and yogurts he seems to really prefer eating those! Though I can still get the veg down him if i distract him by singing throughout the mealtime

Trixy How strange about DSs rash. How is it now? Doctors can be so fustrating!!
We're not doing blw, but I have been giving F some finger foods to try. He did gag (and even sort of choke) quite a bit at first which scared the life out of me, but he is definitely getting better at feeding himself. He still has a habit of shoving LARGE bits of food in his mouth, which he obvuously can't swallow all at once, but he just spits them out now. He does well with quite large wedges of melon or mango, that he can get a good grip on. Cucumber is also a favourite. I gave him some of my toast today which he held in his mouth for a while and then i think most of it got spat out

Think i've rambled on long enough yet??

TheChamberofCarrots · 15/07/2007 20:21

Sorry, Trixy, didn't realise that was you on the other thread!! You've had some issues with dairy while feeding haven't you? I would not rule out the ice cream at all..

and gagging first of all is most likely, they've never had anything in there before, remember gagging is not choking it's them learning to move the food round, or something, UD or Jodie probably know more than me.

theUmbridgeDryad · 15/07/2007 22:30

Zac has gagged on quite a few things, but he always brings it back out again - usually looking very cross! - he's been sick once but he'd just had a massive milk feed before i gave him some toast, so i don't bf him before i give him solids!

he had some biscotti, some Organix sticky things and half a pot of yoghurt! fat boy! we were eating chicken noodles at the time though and he kept looking at what we were having like, "I want some of that!!"

think i just gave dh a fright - i put Z to bed in our bed as he was being a total PIA to settle, and haven't moved him to his own bed yet! dh just went up to check on him and all i heard down the monitor was "Where is he!!"

will post pictures of purple hair in the morning when it's daylight - in the dark it just looks black!

BellaTrixyLestrange · 15/07/2007 23:33

DS was fine with the gagging and stopped himself. It was just me screaming the place down and struggling with the high chair harness. Was going to turn him upside down and slap his back LOL.

I tried him with some rusk mashed up today and actually got pretty much the same reaction and then he completely refused to open his mouth until I gave him the spoon to hold himself, so looks like BLW might be the only way forward!!

Mrs C, I did give up dairy for a bit but had dismissed it as causing the problem, looks like it might have been the cause after all. I'm going to go to my GP and insist on a test this week.

Shimmer - the rash had totally disappeared by the time we saw the doctor typically. Hope you get more sleep tonight. 2 night feeds is normal for us if not a good night!!

SeverusShimmerus · 16/07/2007 07:55

Right......

DP sleeps really badly. Always has done. He has trouble getting to sleep in the evening and often wakes up in the middle of the night and has to get up because he can't get back to sleep. I know this fustrates him and I do feel sorry for him.

BUT it's beginning to piss me off that I NEVER get a lie-in now because he's always been up in the night and is tired! We agreed some time ago that 1 day a week, when DP was off work, he would get up with F, and I could get a bit of a lie-in. But this hasn't actually happened for months now as DP has always had a bad night and I feel guilty for waking him up at 7 when i've probably slept well from 11/12ish (depending on how many times F's been up in the night!) I do want DP to get a good rest on his days off as I know he works hard 5/6 days a week. But AIBU to also feel that his sleeping problems are his problem and I want my little bit of extra sleep every now and again??

GobletOfRouge · 16/07/2007 08:34

Shimmer - you sound like you need a lie in today! I would be pissed off too.Think its only fair of DP to stick to the 1 night you agreed cos even though he gets up when he can't sleep you're having broken sleep cos of F waking up.

I am the same as your DP, often have probs getting back to sleep so I get up and do jobs in the small hours. I end up shattered the day after this has happened so usually end up going to bed about 8ish, could your DP do that?

WilkiesWizardWheezes · 16/07/2007 10:01

Shimmer - hmmmm, tricky one. I can see both points of view. It's very unfair of him to have agreed to 1 day a week and now not follow through with that. Does he not find that he sleeps better if he doesn't lay in. And what time does he normally lay in until on his days off?? Has he been to GP about his sleep problems? Has MrsC got any 'natural' remedies that could help???

Are you getting up with F in the night?? If so then yes it is very unfair for you never to get a lie in. If he is doing the night shifts then I can understand that he want a lay in....very difficult.

TBH, 7-7.30am is when I get up cos DH is always out of the house very early. Even on his days off we generally both get up at that time with J. Occasionally we take it in turns to lay in but not very often.

Yesterday was hectic - went to a christening and then a first birthday party. OMG - little boys are so rough!!! All the older ones wanted to do was play right and wrestle. J got kicked in the head by one boisterous little sht despite me telling him to be careful. His mum hauled him off into the hallway and told him off. He then had to come back and apologise. The little girls were in their party dresses playing nicely whilst the little boys came flying across the room doing commando style rolls. LTH how* do you cope?!?!?!?!?

Carpet is chosen and being fitted Friday 27th so am really excited.

Not much else to report other than J has dropped his dreamfeed so now is having exactly one bottle of milk per day . He just will not drink milk. I am just giving him lots of dairy food. ANy other suggestions for dairy recipes?? So far I am doing cauli cheese (milk & cheese), yoghurts, custard....that's about it. What about rice pudding??? Running out of ideas.

What will happen if he doesn't have his daily quota of milk?? Might have to see HV I think...
