You're right that there's no-one around much at the moment - 'A bottle's my only friend'.

CantSleepWontSleep · 11/07/2007 22:25

Sorry, this bottle's my only friend.

Jas · 12/07/2007 06:29

Morning

I fully intended to be here last night and just as I turned on the light in here ds woke up and started screaming He's not been his usual happy self for a few days and I'm blaming teeth as there is no obvious cause.

How do I get him to take meds? He alsays used to take anything, sucking it from the syringe, but now spits out everything.

Glad you had a good day Flame and Frizbe.

FlameDelacour · 12/07/2007 07:53

Two man job - one pins down, other squeezes open and shut mouth.

DH had friends round last night so I did the being sociable thing

Jas · 12/07/2007 08:00

I can get it into his mouth, but I can't get him to swallow it. He just lets it all dribble out of his moth as soon as I loosen my grip!

Wrap arms in blanket, poke it in corner of mouth and put in 1ml at a time waiting for him to swallow inbetween. Don't put all in or will come out

Jas · 12/07/2007 08:03

It sounds very similar to my mums method for getting her cat to take stuff

Maybe I sould block his nose and stroke his throat like she does with the cat, too!

damewashalot · 12/07/2007 08:03

[hmm crossed posts and that reads wrong meant poke syringe in corner of mouth not blanket, don't let go until gone and bribe with choc buttons?(sorry am bad mother bribe my children for quiet life

damewashalot · 12/07/2007 08:04

Must preview

Also must get kids ready for school!

Jas · 12/07/2007 08:05

Me too! DDs are stil asleep

damewashalot · 12/07/2007 08:09

woke mine up at 7-30, they are up by 6-30 most days ds3 was up at 6 tho.

FlameDelacour · 12/07/2007 08:16

Yup - the throat rubbing DOES work

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/07/2007 08:25

It's a one (wo)man job here, because that's mostly all there is! I just have to wait a while for her screams to open her mouth enough to get the syringe in. Agree only put in a bit at a time, and give the full 5ml dose (assuming nurofen) as then they are likely to swallow at least half, which should be enough!!

FlameDelacour · 12/07/2007 08:27

MRM - Did I tell you I worked out what I think the main cause of my shrinkage is?? Its the first time in nearly 10 years that I've not been on the pill Yes, the breastfeeding etc probably helped, but I know I started gaining weight after I went on the pill (it was very gradual so I didn't really notice - its only my thighs shrinking that has made me realise) - I've now come off it, and I'm smaller than I can remember.

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/07/2007 08:33

Well that's no blardy use then is it - neither mrm nor I are on the pill to start with!!

mustrunmore · 12/07/2007 08:33

So I would basically have to go on it for 10 years so that I could stop and get thinner?! hmm. Great plan , if I had the time and was allowed on the pill!!

Er, do I have the only children that love taking medicine?

Am knackered. ds1 went to bed at 7.30, I went out for a run, got back and he was up Tantrums etc till 10 pm.

Jas · 12/07/2007 08:36

DDs would always take anything

DS did until this week when he just suddenly started to refuse everything that wasn't calpol, and then two days ago started to refuse even that.

FlameDelacour · 12/07/2007 08:37

You wanted to know! At least now you know its not something special I have been doing and not telling you

Phoenix · 12/07/2007 08:38

Mo mrm Lewis loves meds too. If he sees a bottle on the side he crys for it.

It's raining here today and i've got to take the dog for a walk cos dh is at work and i really can't be bothered.

Phoenix · 12/07/2007 08:40

That'll be No then not Mo

mustrunmore · 12/07/2007 08:41

Poor dog! He needs at least 5 miles I reckon...

Er, I was on the pill from 17 to 21 and didnt lose any weight when I came off it. Typical.

Phoenix · 12/07/2007 08:42

Aaaarrrggghhh the dogs sat by the front door staring at me. Me thinks i'd better take him out before it backfires on me and he pisses in the house

Phoenix · 12/07/2007 09:42

I took the dog out he's happy now

Gonna get Lew his brekkie and put him down for his nap then i might have a little nap myself

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/07/2007 10:02

dd has never taken meds well, but then she is the impossible child .
