March 2007 - can't keep up

Hi all -miss a few days due to nightmare things happening at home and I can't keep up now - so started a new thread. Perhaps thought we could remind each other when babes were born - I have lost track at who is the oldest etc.

Been busy here. Prac nanny is okay but hard work - feel like I can't totally relax in my own home etc. She is not sure how to deal with /take dd1 - making it hard. Dd1 had major meltdown after swimming the other day and then at hospital appt, then nanny took eyes from her for a second and she is finally found out on the footpath beside a major road and a sensible and lovely man brought her back. Unlike hospital volunteer who managed to stop dd1 taking a lift anywhere but when she could not get dd1 to hold her hand - she just left her It is clear the minute you speak to dd1 she has special needs FGS. poor nanny student was beside herself.

Saturday dh was gone all day on training exercise and dds only wanted daddy - long day. I managed to get out to a trivia night - MY TEAM WON - i found the questions very easy and answered most of them ( not bragging- just surprised my brain still functioned) I took dd3 - she would not go to sleep - come 11pm still wide awake and beyond over tired... got her home - to see dd2 in bed with dh cause she had an explosive puke that covered everything in her room. She was still up at 1am puking and I had dd3 still crying as she was exhausted.

so long rant - long few days - I am wrecked!!

dd3 - 12 weeks old.

sorry to hear dolly and piff not good.... piff - does this mean you get to see your delicious osteo again though ?

callie - hope all goes well 4 your auntie

diva - i think the regulations on jars of baby food have to be pretty stringent (or so I naively think!) so non-organic ones won't be full of crap. I've done the whole cooking/pureeing/ice-cubes with dd and the complete baby jar with ds1...

... both eat well and aren't that fussy so either works for me. Will probably do a mixture with Samuel.

off to read mossy's thread...

Mossy · 26/07/2007 19:22

Just a quick hello and goodbye as Bertie is wailing didn't want you all to think I'd disappeared will try to come back tomorrow love to all those feeling sore xxx

divastrop · 26/07/2007 20:36

callie-sorry,i missed your post before.hope evrything has gone ok for your aunt xxx

kiwibella · 26/07/2007 22:01

ditto Callie... have you had an update from your aunt's family?

I feel so frustrated for you Mossy. Hopefully you will be able to get to the bottom of this soon and enjoy being a family together. Grrrrrr.

Thanks for the advice about jars of baby food. I'm going to add some to the shopping next week. The cupboards are bare (dh just had toast for dinner!!). To add to all our ails, I've got a wicked infection in my foot and can't face walking around the supermarket. Who said it must be holidays?!?!!

sazzybee · 26/07/2007 22:30

Oh dear, just read through and it seems like we're not a happy bunch atm. Either ill or having a crap time (or both)

Too tired to post really but send you all big hugs and hope life picks up soon ((((March mums))))

foxcub · 26/07/2007 23:19

Me too - just popping in to give a [big hug] to anyone who needs it

Monti is about 20 weeks now and has had no food yet. he's definately interested but I thought they were supposed to be able to sit up first? Is anyone else holding off as long as poss or is it just me?

divastrop · 26/07/2007 23:27

foxy-i never heard that about being able to sit up first?if that was the case i shouldnt have started dd2 on solids till she was 10 months old

i think you should wait till you feel its the right time.Elsie is only having a couple of spoons of fruit atm, just tastes so she gets used to it as formula always tastes the same(disgusting, according to dd1 who for some reason drank some of what was left in a bottle today).

LunarSea · 27/07/2007 08:03

fox - I'd not heard that either, but as I've got one who can sit up, but isn't even at the old 4-months-to-start-weaning point yet where does it leave us? I can't see us holding out for another 10 weeks though, as Toby's grabbing plates off the table and pulling them over to him to see what he can get (mostly just gravy or sauces on his fingers at the moment) already.

Piffle · 27/07/2007 08:24

foxy I'm holding out Finn not even interested yet, I'm happy cannot be doing with all that faffing yet
Lazy mama me...
he is 18 wks, see how much longer he can wait

I've just posted a screech for help on the breastfeeding subject - Finn has been biting - I'm black and blue and green - start of a feed when awake he just clamps - I shrike (hard not to) and now is so frightened he won't feed - I'm stressed and he know sit - he feeds great when just waking up or when he is sleepy. But now flatly refuses when wide awake.

I'm very upset as it has not been 3 days and we are at war with each other when it comes to the boob.

muppethasakitten · 27/07/2007 12:33

piffle - 1 think that works for me (I too have a biter!) is have your little finger at the ready to stick into the corner of their mouth to break the clamping! Then put him down next to you for a moment and ignore him (I struggle at that point!)...

... if I scream he finds it hilarious and does it again ... so i have to try my hardest not to give him such an entertaining reaction...

foxcub · 27/07/2007 23:07

[nipples wincing emoticon]!!

Sorry I can't give any advice Piff although I am lurking on your thread. DS1 used to bite but he had thrush in his mouth...

I have bought Monti some organic food but am still going to hold out for a couple more weeks I think. His feeding frenzy has calmed down a bit now and he's nice and chubby. TBH the teething is giving him the most problems and he's developed a rattly chest cough too today

I've put vicks on which has helped loads. Any other tips anyone - as chesty cough medicines all seem to be 1 yr upwards. Could only find meds for dry coughs, which he doesn't have...

Took DCs to a work BBQ and disco today and had to BF in front of 400 work mates. Got some really nice comments though and the Development Director (woman) scooped him up after his feed and rocked him to sleep and carried him to my car for the drive home. DD and DS1 had a great time on the bouncy castle and eating the free food

My Boss never turned up -probably afraid to

eidsvold · 27/07/2007 23:08

have not read posts - am off out handing out letters for kindy raffle and doing some shopping but will get to the thread again later. So much to catch up on.

Have posted some new pics - one of dd1 as a babe - she is 5 next week - where did that go??

and a new one of dd3.

foxcub · 27/07/2007 23:12

Is that last photo DD1 as a baby Eids? Bless her, she looks as though she is made of porcelain. Realy fragile and diddy.

When is her birthday? My DD was BIG 4 yesterday.

She said "Mummy, because I am BIG 4 now, can I have some of these high up shoes?" - then showed me a pic of silver stilletoes in the Argios catalogue (the DC's bible)

eidsvold · 28/07/2007 08:33

foxy 1st August she was born. That pic is her - must have been about 2 weeks old then.

OP posts:
foxcub · 28/07/2007 10:33

She's so diddy in the pic - 5 seems very grown up doesn't it? She's a Leo like my DD

Well my feed last night at work seems to have messed my boob up. In order to maintain my modesty I got a crap latch on left side and now it is all engorged and sore.

A day of frequent feeds and hot compresses/breast nurse/showers ahead for me today then...

Weather looks fab here though - very sunny outside

eidsvold · 28/07/2007 11:25

foxy - when I had that with dd3 - I would feed from the usual side and use the engorged side to express and build up a store.

I am a little worried - tried to give dd3 a bottle the other day - had formula in it - as a practice for when dh and I are off at the theatre and she would not take it. I figured that is was because she could smell me but we tried again with dh and she wouldn't take it again.

Need to get expressing. Dh and I are off to see Miss Saigon in 10 days or so.

She was just 6lb when born foxy and was 5lb something when she came home. She was ditty compared with dd2 - 9lb 7oz!!

Dd1 is having just a few friends around for afternoon tea after Kindy on Tuesday. I have been making meringue shaped grubs for her birthday cake. Pink iced '5' to look like a garden with garden fence made out of musk sticks and shrubs made from spearmint leaves, topped with 5 meringue grubs. I have made meringue grubs for every child that will be there though. Party bags are made. Just need to sort out a couple of party games. Mainly wanted to just let them have free play at our place - give them an option of playdough or all our inside and outside toys. Then have afternoon tea.

We are going to make placemats with crayon shavings and drawings that are then laminated.

Then birthday cake and home. Dd1 is started to get excited. She was singing happy birthday around the house this afternoon and dh explained about it being her birthday soon. SO she was then singing happy birthday to X. very very cute

sorry to hear some of you are having a crap time.

I have so much going on. I do try to keep up with you lot but sometimes you get on a roll and I can't keep up.

Dd3 not showing any signs of wanting to eat anything other than her hand. She had almost her whole fist in her mouth tonight gnawing away.

I am going to aim for 6 months. She is just 4 months and not crash hot on sitting. hates being on her tummy but does look like she is getting ready to roll over.

foxcub · 28/07/2007 12:05

Eids you are like Superwoman!!

sazzybee · 28/07/2007 12:11

eidsvold - that cake sounds brilliant! Can you take a pic please and post it up? I have no idea what a meringue grub is

Elliot is in no way ready for weaning. No interest in my food at all and I just want to delay the hassle of it as long as possible. He's happy sitting up and likes being on his tum but doesn't seem anywhere near rolling over - just pushing himself up and grinning is about all he can do.

fox - have you tried olbas oil? I find that helps them breathe easier (although don't think it will help with a chesty cough).

Sorry to hear about your bf troubles piffle and fox - sound v painful

Urgh - had friends round last night and they didn't go till midnight and we had some wine and I feel a bit groggy today. Better go and deal with the washing up

foxcub · 28/07/2007 13:14

Sazzy have tried Vicks but not Olbas Oil. have got some though so might try that later and also invest in a "snot sucker"! he doesn't seem ill but I'm worried the rattly chest may develop into an infection.

kiwibella · 28/07/2007 16:15

bless your grown up girls!! Eids, the party sounds fab... mmmmm, spearmint leaves - yum yum!! Please do post piccies of the cake when it is completed (before it is demolished).

MissE and I went and saw 'Hairspray' this afternoon. It is absolutely "afro-tastic"... we both grinned along and loved it.

I wanna know what hubs' magic trick is for getting Kate to sleep. He can put her down no troubles - yet she will always fuss for me.

divastrop · 28/07/2007 17:39

hello ladies

eids-you must be some kind of super-human

fox-i never give mine cough medicine,i have always found it makes the cough go on for longer, and one paed in the hospital said not to use cough suppressants when dd2 was last in as they need to cough all the crap up.putting baby in a steam filled room is always recommended.i have been using olbas oil for Elsies bunged up nose,it seems to help at night,as does putting a pillow under the cot mattress so the head is raised-helps with drainage.

its been nice and sunny here today, also.i took the dc to the park.dd2 is finally walking most of the time now,so she had fun playing on the slide.

ds2 just told me hes watching 'gary potter'.is that the chav version i wonder?
