March 2007 - can't keep up

Hi all -miss a few days due to nightmare things happening at home and I can't keep up now - so started a new thread. Perhaps thought we could remind each other when babes were born - I have lost track at who is the oldest etc.

Been busy here. Prac nanny is okay but hard work - feel like I can't totally relax in my own home etc. She is not sure how to deal with /take dd1 - making it hard. Dd1 had major meltdown after swimming the other day and then at hospital appt, then nanny took eyes from her for a second and she is finally found out on the footpath beside a major road and a sensible and lovely man brought her back. Unlike hospital volunteer who managed to stop dd1 taking a lift anywhere but when she could not get dd1 to hold her hand - she just left her It is clear the minute you speak to dd1 she has special needs FGS. poor nanny student was beside herself.

Saturday dh was gone all day on training exercise and dds only wanted daddy - long day. I managed to get out to a trivia night - MY TEAM WON - i found the questions very easy and answered most of them ( not bragging- just surprised my brain still functioned) I took dd3 - she would not go to sleep - come 11pm still wide awake and beyond over tired... got her home - to see dd2 in bed with dh cause she had an explosive puke that covered everything in her room. She was still up at 1am puking and I had dd3 still crying as she was exhausted.

so long rant - long few days - I am wrecked!!

dd3 - 12 weeks old.

Dolly here's my bra:

foxcub · 29/07/2007 22:21

Not sure what happened there but its the Royce Fuller Cup white lacy one.

I seem to remember getting a letter from Bounty and binning it

foxcub · 29/07/2007 22:24

We met our first prospective lodger tonight. A friend's nephew - lovely boy so we reduced the price of the room . He seemed very keen but I told him to have a think and call us tomorrow If he doesn't take the room we'll get someone else in - having spent the whole day clearing and cleaning the room.

He only wants a short let so it will give us a chance to see how it goes having a lodger in the house

foxcub · 29/07/2007 22:25

ps Sponge - still e-mail your friend if you will, as this guy will be gone again in a couple of weeks, even if he takes the room

LunarSea · 29/07/2007 22:30

sponge - IIRC where you're moving too isn't a million miles from me (I'm just over the now-back-within-its-banks river Avon from Amie).

kiwi - I could never get ds1 to drink out of those non spill cups until he was about 2. If you've got Avent bottles, get the non spill spout for them, and remove the valve thing (so they would spill if held upside down) and that's a lot easier for the little ones to manage. ds1 could drink through a straw before you could get anything out of a non-spill cup!

spongecake · 29/07/2007 22:30

hi foxy, i'llcontact her for you, but don't forget i m off line for a while after today.

good luck with your lodger. he sounds very nice.

am looking forward to a meet up for those that are close in the autumn

eidsvold · 29/07/2007 23:15

kiwi - can you get someone in Aus to send you a sipper cup that has a plastic lid with the three little holes - BUT it is not non spillable. I used one that has a straw with dd2 rather than the beakers - although we had every cup imaginable after trying to find the right one for dd1.

That avent one with the valve removed works well. I know with the valve in even I had trouble getting liquid from it - tried it when I thought dd1 might not be getting any liquid from it.

Tommee tippee do one that is hard plastic and even has the line if you want to give them juice at a later date - so you know how much juice to put in.

what about one like this

oh goodness Anabel Karmel has her own range of products now!! I did like those tiny mothercare pots though.

I can't find the one we had. Will take a pic of the one I used with dd2 and post it on my profile later.

Off to do the kindy run, swimming lessons and get food for the party!

Thanks for that Foxy - I think the Royce one is the one I have. Clearly I have the wrong sort of boobs .

Talking of a meet up - did we southern ladies suggest going to Brighton? I would be on for this in aug or September. I could do Mon or Wed from now til 21st Sept, although not 22nd Aug. Sorry if that sounds prescriptive - DD1 is in nursery on those days and I can't do public transport with 2 of them on the days she is at home! Of course, if everyone else needs another day, I will bow out and see you all another time

So who is in? Kitty is in Brighton already - any days good for you? And london ladies - I'm thinking Sazzy, Kiwi, Foxy - any others I have missed? There is Booboo of course, but she's been AWOL for ages....

LunarSea · 30/07/2007 07:57

kiwi - you can sometimes still find those cups with the 3 holes in the spout, like Eids described, in pound shops and the like. I know I found one for ds1 - albeit 5 years ago. Actually I've got to go to one of those shops in the next couple of days to pick up some bits ready for ds1's birthday party so I'll have a look for you while I'm there.

LunarSea · 30/07/2007 08:04

On the subject of cups (though not lidded ones they could use on their own just yet) - we had a Doidy cup for ds1, which worked really well and let him drink independently quite early.

eidsvold · 30/07/2007 08:53

I went for the straw beaker rather than the non spill as they do not need to tip it and OT said it was better for dd1's oral development.

something like this one - spout pops up.

eidsvold · 30/07/2007 08:54

trying to find a pic of the straw one that I got - went to take a pic of mine and straw is missing!!

kiwibella · 30/07/2007 09:24

thanks everyone! The doidy cup is such a funny looking thing Lunar

I like the pretty pink of the mothercare one too .

Well, MissE just had to try her sister with her cup last night. She had to try it herself also! MissE has managed to get it working by just pulling the stupid nozzle thingy out of the spout... then it just drips the liquid out. Poor Kate looked hilarious trying to suck on it - she is clearly not ready for such technology. Though, while we were out yesterday she was demanding to drink from my bottled water so I gave her a go and sort of poured it and she was ok with it.

I was thinking about our Brighton meet-up this morning too Dolly - thanks for reminding us! We are likely to be away for the week of 20th August so anytime aside from that is good for us.

kiwibella · 30/07/2007 09:31

great news about your Aunt Callie! I hope she recovers well.

Good luck with your move Sponge

Enjoy your lodger Foxy!!

LunarSea · 30/07/2007 10:38

Kiwi - the Doidy cup might look peculiar, but it does work. All this talk of cups has made me to and dig out the box with things like that in it (also has assorted weaning things like suction bottom feeding bowls, etc, which we'll be needing soon anyway) and I found one I'd forgotten I had - a wibbly wobbly cup. This is a bit like a normal spillable cup, but it's got a weighted semi-spherical bottom so that it always stays upright and doesn't fall over and spill (at least if it's put down on a flatish surface).

I think we're going to struggle to hold off weaning for another 2 months. Toby's grabbing hold of plates and dipping his fingers in anything vaguely liquid - gravy, pasta sauce, part melted icecream, etc - at every opportunity now. So he obviously thinks he's ready for food, even if the weaning guidelines say he's not!

kittywits · 30/07/2007 11:23

I'm away 18th to 25th. The kids have stuff on here and there. Actually by far the best week for me would be the last week of August. How about all of you? Ooooh exciting to think I'm going to get to me some of you

evenhope · 30/07/2007 12:00

I've just had a letter from the hospital with an appointment for DDs follow-up scan of her hips (she was breech) for 9th July. The letter is dated 21 June but postmarked 26 July.

Rang hospital, who said "wonder how that happened?" Someone forgot to post it I expect! They've asked me to take her in today instead and all for the purpose DH is working so it's a solo trip. Should be fun (not) as it's impossible to park at the hospital in the afternoons. At least with 2 of you one can always stay with the car/ go and park elsewhere.

foxcub · 30/07/2007 13:07

Evenhope about your hospital appt !!

I have one this arvo and DH has had to come home to mind the hells angels. I have a trip to the bottom doctor to have my piles zapped

Dolly "wrong sort of boobs"? Sounds like an excuse for a train being late

I can do pretty much any day although we may be away the bank holiday week - not sure - but probably best to avoid that week anyway (crowds/hols etc) - apart from that I'm here until about 16 Sept when I may return to work. Dolly are you returning in Sept too?

foxcub · 30/07/2007 13:08

That last sentence relates to days I can do Brighton...

Mossy · 30/07/2007 17:03

Ladies just a quick one as Bertie has gone AWOL and Gollum is back instead. Just wanted to say hello to all to let you know I haven't disappeared.

Also to let you know, I texted Laidback and she said she was without internet at the moment but would try to pop by; she hasn't disappeared either.

Which means now we have Booboo missing and unaccounted for, also where is Morocco? Diva what date is our meetup again? [brain like a sieve emoticon]

shanks313 · 30/07/2007 17:13

Hi everyone

Just a quick message as I have to pick up DH from work and then take dog to the vets.

You all seem to have forgotten me on here
I seen all these messages for so and so or so and so and none saying Im missing.I must be invisible lol.

Deanna is doing well.Still doing the rolling around from front to back and now we find her in weird places in her cot on the morning lol.
Shes started pinching people which can really hurt and throwing herself back alot.

Cant believe she will be 5 months in 2 days time.
We have started weaning,so far shes had baby rice and banana and tonight I gave her pear, she doesnt seem that impressed with the fruit yet.I have put some pots of food in the freezer for her ready.

HOpe you are all okay

Piffle · 30/07/2007 18:17

Quick hello as hols and dp is off and busy busy!

cups?i only got dd2 to drink out of one about 2 months ago.the tommee tippee one with the soft spuot, although she has only been managing to get a decent drink out of it since i left the spout to soak in hot water for a few hours

what a flippin' day.after tea this evening i said to ds and dd1 'whoever dropped that pasta on the floor can they pick it up please'.cue 10 mins of squabbling about who dropped it.so dp marches in and says 'one of you pick it up or you can both go to your rooms'.ds1 picked the pasta up,but dd1 started having a hissy fit,so dp shouted at her to go to her room.she then stompped up the stairs screaming 'it wasnt me!its not fair!'at the top of her voice.

5 minutes later the bloody coppers turned up,saying someone from the shop/warehouse next door had rang saying a woman was being attacked.they were fine and just said 'kids eh' but it was soooo embarrassing.

i cant wait untill wednesday.

divastrop · 30/07/2007 21:42
