March 2007 - can't keep up

eidsvold · 18/06/2007 08:06

Hi all -miss a few days due to nightmare things happening at home and I can't keep up now - so started a new thread. Perhaps thought we could remind each other when babes were born - I have lost track at who is the oldest etc.

Been busy here. Prac nanny is okay but hard work - feel like I can't totally relax in my own home etc. She is not sure how to deal with /take dd1 - making it hard. Dd1 had major meltdown after swimming the other day and then at hospital appt, then nanny took eyes from her for a second and she is finally found out on the footpath beside a major road and a sensible and lovely man brought her back. Unlike hospital volunteer who managed to stop dd1 taking a lift anywhere but when she could not get dd1 to hold her hand - she just left her It is clear the minute you speak to dd1 she has special needs FGS. poor nanny student was beside herself.

Saturday dh was gone all day on training exercise and dds only wanted daddy - long day. I managed to get out to a trivia night - MY TEAM WON - i found the questions very easy and answered most of them ( not bragging- just surprised my brain still functioned) I took dd3 - she would not go to sleep - come 11pm still wide awake and beyond over tired... got her home - to see dd2 in bed with dh cause she had an explosive puke that covered everything in her room. She was still up at 1am puking and I had dd3 still crying as she was exhausted.

so long rant - long few days - I am wrecked!!

dd3 - 12 weeks old.

woohoo... 900 messages!! This thread has taken much longer than previous ones.

kittywits · 28/07/2007 19:42

Ooh finally some time to post!
Mad mother has dd1 and dd2 for the night. God the house is so peaceful with oly the 4!!!

Eids your pics are lovely. You always seem to super energetic and organised. Yes what are meringue grubs? Sounds very intriguing.

I spend my time going around feeling like someone has been squeezing my head. Infact when I mentioned this to ds1 this morning he helpfully suggested that perhaps someone had indeed been squeezing my head whilst I was sleeping.....it's a conspiracy .

Diva, are you feeling any better now? Are things at home improved?

Foxy, hope the old boobs are behaving themselves

Callie how is your aunt. Hope she's come through the op ok.

divastrop · 28/07/2007 21:07

kitty-seemingly,things have improved,ie,having got things off his chest dp is now being very nice again.i,however,am turning things over and over in my head, questioning whether he is only with me as im a scary control freak, and trying to figure out if i actually have ruined his life, and if so why is he still with me?(cos hes scared of me)but i cant actually talk to him about it as i will be 'going over old ground' and being a miserable cow,and it will start a row, which will be my fault.and so the circle continues ad nauseum untill somebody leaves/is killed/wakes up sane.

i know my house will be quiet come wednesday when ds and dd1 go to london with my mad mother-for 2 whole weeks!plus ive put ds2 in nursery 3 afternoons a week so he doesnt get bored.

kittywits · 28/07/2007 21:10

2 whole weeks Diva Wow!! Will she chuck sweets at them? Mine does. It's scary how much shit she tries to get them to eat.
How about you listen to the Paul Mckenna thingy?

divastrop · 28/07/2007 21:25

i had a mental block with the paul mckenna thingy as i felt i couldnt read past the page in the book where he made a sexist remark about female flight attendants.i stopped listening to the cd as well

i just got a book from the library that was recommended to me on my thread last week, that 'mind over mood'.im hoping its rather less complicated than that other one.

my mum will probably feed the dc loads of cakes,or try to anyway, they may refuse as they have been brainwashed by school with all the healthy eating,5 a day stuff.not that thats a bad thing, apart from when i cant be bothered cooking and want to get them chippy.

divastrop · 28/07/2007 21:36

eidsvold-have you seen this thread?

spongecake · 28/07/2007 22:58

hi there.. thanks for your kind messages which i will read properly later as well as try to catch up with all the posts , in the end our power stayed on, but have had no time to post as have been packing for the move monday at night when the baby has gone to bed, and needing to leave the place clean to get my deposit back

we have been without running water for a week now. I have a lovely neighbour who gave me a big cannister, as the bath is almost empty, and there is mineral water for drinking and cooking. and washing my baby and my face! there are water tanks for the public to take their buckets to, but its about the size of a wheelie bin, so not much point. the army are handing out mineral water, mmmm but haven't gone as it a scrum dp brings me water from work as well, so not as badly off as others.

right, off to read what i have missed!

spongecake · 28/07/2007 23:19

for those having a bad time. are things better mossy? and rosy, how is your dh?
just got to weaning, and would love some advice... my baby is 19 weeks and been snatching at my food and attempting to stuff it in his mouth for about 3 weeks. i am bf him. i have offered him pureed fruit and vegatables, which he is very interested in, but won't really have it (he loves petit filou though and only eats banana if its whole= he kind of gnaws it whilst i watch him for signs of choking how do i get him to eat? he has started bf again for 2 hours a time, and waking up lots in the night again for long feeds and i am worn out tbh. he thinks baby rice is poison.

sorry for my mad long posts...

eidsvold · 29/07/2007 00:09

diva - I had not seen that thread. thanks for the link.

meringue grubs are just meringue mix piped into a grubby kind of shape and then coloured sprinkles over the top. Then just before I put them out/ont eh cake - using icing gel to put black eye dots.

The cake is from the AUstralian WOmen's weekly birthday cookbook - fab ideas of easy to involved cake recipes and decorating ideas.

Did the one on my profile for dd1's 4th birthday.

easy - cup cakes - petals were marshmallows chopped in half, smarties .choc beanies or you could use M&Ms in the middle. Spearmint leaves for leaves on branches - just marzipan rolled.

Mossy · 29/07/2007 08:45

Morning all,

Been so busy this weekend hardly any time to catch up. Well when I say busy, I mean that "laughing boy" to use Kitty's term has come back big time. He's only quiet when he's feeding, and even then he fights at the breast sometimes - driving me mad!

Any tips for getting ds to sleep would be wonderful, he just does not want to sleep any more. He falls asleep on the breast, or in the sling (after an hour's walking); second I put him down he's awake again. He won't suck on his dummy any more and it's driving me insane!

Sorry I am not being rude, I am just making the most of a brief break, dh has taken ds out in the car for a drive so I can have a wash and get changed.

Piffle hope your back - and your sore nips - get better soon. No tips for biting but good luck I am sure other people will have gone through it.

Foxy no idea about lodgers sorry!

Eids your cake is amazing!

Sponge you poor thing with the water situation!

Everyone else, hope you're all well, sorry for being so self-absorbed.

eidsvold · 29/07/2007 08:49

foxy was that your older two in the pic on the link - can just picture her wanting up high shoes

kittywits · 29/07/2007 09:44

Sponge, I think baby rice is REVOLTING!!! Dd1 didn't like pureed stuff. She was happy to be given stuff she could chew on, soft cooked veg, cheese, bread,. I'd feed her soft shreddies for example, bits of pasta covered in sauce. It will be messy though but so much easier if he can feed himself
Hope the packing's going ok

evenhope · 29/07/2007 10:15

Morning all

Just read the last few days posts and can't remember who said what . Mine has been doing the biting thing for a while and it's driving me mad. The only calm feed is the first one in the morning. All the others involve a lot of wriggling, head twisting and flapping of arms- ow ow ow.

I haven't started the "solids" yet either. I'm trying to hold off until 6 months. Picked up my next stage bounty bag from Asda yesterday and it's got a jar of organic apple and a bottle of apple juice so at least we've got something in ready.

She has also taken to waking at some point in the night, and still won't go down until 11/11.30. I'm more tired now than I was 3 months ago.

DS2 and DS3 have just got on the bus for summer camp- hooray! A week's peace!

divastrop · 29/07/2007 11:29

Elsie is doing the twisty/looking around instead of feeding, and when she chews the teat rather than sucking it im quite glad its not my nipple.she still cries with hunger while she is busy wriggling around.

mossy-hope bertie settles again.you need your dh to be kind and lovig to you so you can be calm and stress-free

well all mine seem happy today sofar.ds2 is wandering aroung singing,dd2 is sitting in her travel cot saying 'hiya' and Elsie is smiling at me from her chair.i think ds1 is still in bedhe keeps staying up till stupid o'clock catching up with the harry potter books he hasnt yet read before he reads the new one.i think he may be growing up.

muppethasakitten · 29/07/2007 12:04

hello to everyone - about to read thread and catch up whilst g'parents take dcs out

DollyPopsOut · 29/07/2007 12:36

Hello everyone

No time to read the thread as it's a bit hectic here but hope you are all well . We are still milk central here and will be for a good few weeks yet I should think. I didn't wean DD1 til nearly 7 months as it clashed with our hols and I think the same might happen again. I seem to be feeding a lot again at th emoment. Boobs are huge. Does anyone with larger boobs have a nursing bra that gives a decent shape? Mine make my boobs look rather rectangular .

Love to all XXXX

kiwibella · 29/07/2007 13:14

Hi everyone... nice to see so many mama's back on board

I have done my shopping this morning and the Hipp organic baby food was 10 for £4... so we've got ten jars now .

Also, a question for the experienced mummies (or anyone who might know, really)... I bought one of these tommee tippee beakers but I can't make it work unless I am squeezing the spout??? Surely I don't have to do that while she is drinking?????????

sazzybee · 29/07/2007 20:28

Blimey eids, you truly are supermum - that cake is fantastic! Thanks for clearing up the confusion re meringue grubs - I thought they were some sort of exotic Australian beastie

Lunar - that sounds utterly grim. I was listening to the advice on the radio today about the water and trying to imagine how I would cope without water and with a small baby.

It was my nephew's birthday party today - his cousin who is 14 months was there and Elliot took one look at him and burst into tears I think I'd better start taking him to some mother and baby things or he's going to get a hell of a shock when he starts nursery! I'm absolutely shattered as have been driving for about 4 hours here and there. London driving is very tiring I find as you can't lose concentration for a second.

How do you get these second Bounty bags? Do you have to go to Asda?

Callieco · 29/07/2007 21:15

Hello all. Piffle, Muppet, Foxy, hope the nips are feeling better!

Thanks for all messages. My aunt came through the operation really well. The surgeon is pretty convinced they've got it all. She's in hospital for up to another week, and then the main thing will be persuading her to rest and not run around like a blue-arsed fly for once. Conincidentally, my uncle (her husband) is going into hospital tomorrow for a routine op that was booked ages ago, so my poor cousins will have a double set of visiting to do, although I think he should be in and out pretty quick. And to top it all off, another uncle had a mild heart attack a few weeks ago. As he's already had a quadruple bypass, he can't have any more surgery done unless he has a heart transplant so they've just given him loads of dietary and exercise advice. It never rains...

Sponge, best of luck with the move. On the weaning front, I'm regularly getting painted with food as I feed DS his puree stuff. He's eating everything he's offered so far... Also, whoever was asking about sitting up, Jordi can't sit up. I just hold him to feed him at the moment.

sazzybee · 29/07/2007 21:20

Oops - when I said Lunar, I meant sponge. I think it's because when I think of you sponge, I think of baths (and hence sea), rather than cake

evenhope · 29/07/2007 21:58

sazzy, bounty sent me some more info by post, including a coupon for the next bag. You can collect it from Boots, but if you get it from Asda you also get a voucher for £5 off George baby stuff

spongecake · 29/07/2007 22:04

sazzy, sponge as in coral? that's nice. i love the sea. and lunar for tides? or am i completely wrong

thanks for all the weaning advice, i;ll just keep offering him things until he eats. he likes to wave the spoon around, which is very cute. and very messy.

am mostly packed and the place is mostly clean (don;t ask how i did this with hardly any spare water..) i will be off line for a while as aol take a month to change over and we fly out to get married next week! am so excited!

hope you all had a lovely weekend, it was sunny here, so we went and listened to jazz in the park (dp was at work ) i am hoping to make some new friends when we get back as i won;t know anyone in the area. Aimee, how about a meet up?

foxcub · 29/07/2007 22:16

Sponge best of luck and have a fabulous time

Mossy - I put teething gel on Monti's dummy quite often now and hold it in his mouth, whilst also putting my hand gently on his tum - all in order to get him off to sleep

Sazzy - I think you are thinking of witchety grubs!

Diva - Monti twists his head with my nips in his mouth, and also pulls back so my poor nip gets pulled like a length of elastic [sock]

Eids - yes that's the older two - your cake sounds so amazing and very imaginative!!

Kitty - I detest baby rice too. Think when I start on solids with Monti I will give him something tasty and nice

Callie - [big hugs] to your Auntie - its sounds like the best outcome she could have wanted

Kiwi - I know nothing about beakers - always seem to but the qwrong ones

Dolly - I'm a 38G and bought the Royce bra from the NCT (JoJo do it too) its so comfy and makes my boobs look nice - well not as low slung as the other bras
