Well i think i was the frist to 'pop' from the due in june thread so i thought it was about time we started the post-natal thread.

DS2 is 2 weeks on monday I had him 4 weeks early due to induction for OC. Everything is going really well and i think things are finally starting to settle down (i hope i haven't just spoken too soon!!)

He is really suffering with colic though and were getting about 4 hours sleep a night on average and with a 2.5 year old there is no chance of catching up in the day, but i shouldn't complain as i'm lucky to have got two wonderful boys. Thats it now NO MORE!!!!!9smile0

I know a few other june mums have had their babies so it would be lovely to hear from you to see how you are all getting on (when you get the chance )

Pingu...sometimes if they're very windy they constantly want to suck as the sucking helps,, but feeding can compound the problem as then their wee tummies get too full. have you tried just giving her your wee finger to suck (fingertip to the roof of her mouth)

If its wind, my DD will drift off to sleep sucking my finger, but if she's hungry she'll just keep on sucking forever. She also tries to push me away when trying to get latched on and she shakes her head from side to side but doesn't actually open her mouth. I've started to roll my niple into her mouth over her tongue which seems to help.

Gaargh, it's a pity we can't all just get together and have a BF workshop! It's so difficult to explain in words sometimes!

daisyboo · 24/06/2007 19:48

Another thought....do any of you first timers have friends/relatives with BF LOs who can come round to give advice? When I had DS my sis was great. My DN was 7 mo and still BF and she helped me loads. At one point I actually begged her to feed him herself as it just wasn't happening for me. She didn't, but if I could've paid her to do it I would have!

riabutterflew · 24/06/2007 20:08

Hi again. I have no helpful advice to offer as BF is a day-by-day commitment here. I really suffered with DS1 but when I stopped BF and gave him a bottle he took it as if he'd never been fed before, so I would advocate the happy mummy-happy baby theory too. It's really not worth ruining your health and well-being over. It has to be your decision for YOU, so don't let guilt get in the way, and if you've BF for a few days your LO has had the benefit of the colostrum too.
BF was far easier with DS2, although still tough and painful at times, but I was able to stick at it with him for some reason. He had FF eventually though (I can't do BF once they've developed an "older" personality!)
Even with this LO I have a few seconds at the start of most feeds where I'm thinking bottles!

One piece of advice - don't eat brussels pate with garlic - one of his trumps could wipe out a whole room!

Am off to catch up on the AN thread...

daisyboo · 24/06/2007 20:16

LOL Ria...

....my DD is entirely refuting the notion the BF babies don't have smelly poo....she bloody stinks, whereas DS smelled like butter popcorn. I think it might have been the painkillers to start with and then the anti-biotics. Finished with all of that now, so hopefully she'll get better now!

daisyboo · 24/06/2007 20:16

Ria....do we get to see any photos of your young man??

claire74 · 24/06/2007 20:24

Hi pingu - reading your posts, your little one maybe tired rather than hungry, and her frustration and fighting at the breast is often a sign of this. when she cries rather than automatically putting her on the breast , why not try holding her very close and soothing her with your voice and helping her to fall into a deep sleep, then when she has had a good sleep she is more likely to take a good full feed.

It sounds she is in the awful trap they often get in where they snack, dose, snack, dose. So to turn it around try cuddling rather than feeding - how do you feel about dummies?

claire74 · 24/06/2007 20:25

lol at butter popcorn my lo smells of the tesco bakery!

claire74 · 24/06/2007 20:29

Pingu- if she doesn't fall asleep easily , try taking her for a long walk or car journey, anything just to turn it around.

once you have turned it around , and she has slept well, fed well.

Then it generally goes in 3's sleep, eat, change, then repeat.

HTH

lilKelBel · 24/06/2007 20:45

lol at cheesy armpits. well actually cuz I discovered the same when I bathed DD yesterday!! How does milk collect in there?!?

Thx for answers re DD nappy changes. Feel much better now leaving her alone down there.

Discovered another possible reason for DD's sudden screaming. Galloping nappy rash! I reckon it's bloody painful. Cue naked time for the next week...

I also am well familiar with snack-snooze syndrome. Dummies are incredibly useful for breaking the cycle - and those who hestitate, pls don't be afraid of dummy addiction at this age!

sending big sleepy vibes and milky ones too....x

hollyandalice · 24/06/2007 21:00

Evening all! Hope everyone and their LOs are well!

Pingu I had flatish nipples when I started feeding my dd. I used shields for a few months and now I have proper pokey through t-shirt ones !

I am trying to put some photos on, but it's not sodding working! I'll get dp to fix it in a sec.

Why is there nothing on TV when I have an excuse to sit on my arse all day?

daisyboo · 24/06/2007 21:34

my dd poos so much she constantly has nappy rash!

LOL at the nipple photos.

hey dg, how's it going?

NattyThomasandEllen · 24/06/2007 21:40

hey guys
had a bad few days had to give up BF completly, my left boob is unbearable, and El just wasnt happy. she is far more settled and content on formula, and as bad as i feel that i cant BF i think her happyness comes first. and i did manage 4 weeks which is better than nothing.

she has slept through 2 times this week, cant work out what we did, but we also had the feeding frenzy from 5.30 till about 11. she then conked out till 5 both times... now if i could only work out how i did it

glad everyone else is good, missing being able to get on here but my laptop is buggered and will only stay on for about 15mins at a time!

NattyThomasandEllen · 24/06/2007 21:41

hey daisy, hey H&A nice to see you!

daisyboo · 24/06/2007 21:42

Aw....what a lovely photo of DD, DS and DP. He looks huge....but gorgeous!!

hollyandalice · 24/06/2007 21:43

Hi natty, glad you are well! How's the new house going?

daisyboo · 24/06/2007 21:44

Hi Natty....you did well with her than and she's had a great start in life because of it. I need to keep my laptop plugged in all the time as the battery is buggered, but it is five years old, so it's not doing too badly. I only ever use it at home...it's never been out of the house!

NattyThomasandEllen · 24/06/2007 21:47

great thanks for asking H&A! so nice to have a bedroom for thomas now.

laptop got dropped yestreday and keeps switching itself off, and only JUST managed to back up toms last years worth of photos. i was in tears i thought we had lost them and NONE of them are processed.

NattyThomasandEllen · 24/06/2007 21:52

BIG congrats by the way H&A just spotted your baby... 10lb wow!

3flightsofstairs · 24/06/2007 21:56

Hello - not sure where to go as we were originally supposed to be on the July thread, but then dates were changed to 28th June and bub was born on the 21st! I'm all at sea. Milk came in today and boobs really sore - LO won't open hismouth wide enough for me to get him on - ouch
I had section last time and also wasn't prepared for this pain in my fanjo . Like passing a melon wouldn't smart a bit. What was I thinking?! Any tips anyone?
Hope everyone's well. Off to bed for hopefully a decent bit of sleep. Sweet dreams to mums and bubs...

hollyandalice · 24/06/2007 21:56

Have a good night everyone, I need to go to bed! xxx

NattyThomasandEllen · 24/06/2007 21:59
