Well i think i was the frist to 'pop' from the due in june thread so i thought it was about time we started the post-natal thread.

DS2 is 2 weeks on monday I had him 4 weeks early due to induction for OC. Everything is going really well and i think things are finally starting to settle down (i hope i haven't just spoken too soon!!)

He is really suffering with colic though and were getting about 4 hours sleep a night on average and with a 2.5 year old there is no chance of catching up in the day, but i shouldn't complain as i'm lucky to have got two wonderful boys. Thats it now NO MORE!!!!!9smile0

I know a few other june mums have had their babies so it would be lovely to hear from you to see how you are all getting on (when you get the chance )

Hi charlie, and congrats on your LO, but at the em c-section. I had one last time, 2.5 days after being induced. Went elective this time, and am now asking "what part of me thought this was a good idea". I can't stand up for any length of time as the wound starts to sting really badly (feels like a burn) after about 10 mins. It's day 5 for me now and I thought it would've been better by now!

I'm taking Arnica Lilkel, but not sure if it's making a difference, although one end of the wound feels absolutely fine and isn't sore at all.

didn't have quite such a good night last night and was up twice, with madam feeding for nearly 2 hours each time, emptying one boob, then starting on the other. She's slept well today though, and even managed to sleep through her first bath, she's so laid back.

Nips getting a bit sore now, and am not convinced of her latch as she won't open her mouth very wide, but she's obviously getting plenty.

The 36G bras I bought are too bloody small as well, but can't see when I'll be fit enough to get to the shops to be measured.

Gaaargh she's waking up again!!

nannyjo · 10/06/2007 17:16

daisyboo, my DS sleeps through his bath too it's so sweet but he screams blue murder when you take him out . Iknow what you mean about the feeding it goes on forever and seems even longer when you're exhausted in the middle of the night and all you want to do is put your head back on the pillow!!!
I keep falling asleep feeding, i know the risks and i try so hard not to but i attatch him then next thing i know DH is proding me an hour later and i'm not sure how the time passed.

Is everyone getting out and about with their new borns?? I feel so much better if i get up and out the house. It was different with DS1 cos i could sleep when he did but this time i need to be out or i just get really ratty with #ds1 aqnd he gets bored and plays up more. I feel sorry for DS2 tho, he just seems to get dragged around in his car seat a lot more than DS1 did.

D'boo, what kind of pain relief are you on? Sounds like you deserve better by the sounds of it!!

Must say I don't miss the days/nights of BF much. Some people seem to find it a breeze but for me it was an endless and painful experience! I hope it improves for you soon!!

daisyboo · 10/06/2007 20:53

Hi lilkel....I've got paracetomol and dihydracodiene. i was on voltarol in hospital as well, but they tookme off it as I developed a wheeze, but didn't give me an alternative. I've been topping myself up with ibuprofen as well, but am concerned I'm taking too much.

Wish I could've had more morphine!!

lilKelBel · 10/06/2007 21:08

aaah yes, morphine -- i was asking them for it up till the moment I left! (oramorph). Bloody good stuff.

I'm now taking Voltarol and Paracetemol. Was co-dydramol but switched to P'cet as felt it was ok to step down. I wouldn't worry about ibuprofen, it's akin to Voltarol...

if the wound still hurts tomorrow maybe you can pitch up at the GP and beg for another opinion/more meds? Your MW doesn't seem too sympathetic.

right 9pm bedtime - check in tomorrow & let us know how you are ok?

RedFraggle · 11/06/2007 10:31

Morning ladies,

Just thought I'd pop on and say "hi" in the brief interlude between feeds!

Gah! I can hear him waking up already.
Anyone else have an endlessly feeding baby?

Be back later....

lilKelBel · 11/06/2007 11:48

Welcome RF! And yes! (back to feeding...)

derlor · 11/06/2007 18:28

knock knock - can i come in????
Hello all you lovely post natal chicks x
SOOOOOOOOOO glad to be here
i see this thread is much quieter than the other one cause we've all got stuff to do!!!!! i will read back to the start and see what you lot have been up to but just wanted to say Hi -
For anyone who doesn't know Abbie Catherine was born VERY QUICKLY on friday 8th June she is no. 3 for me annd i already have DS age 7 and DD age 3 so they are loving having a new wee sister - even though all she really does is sleep, poo and cry at the moment!
Right off to read up about you all.... back soon x

daisyboo · 11/06/2007 19:30

Hi RedFraggle...

Hi Derlor......

It's great isn't it? i love babies.

Derlor...what a birth story, obviously all that RLT/mango/pineapple/sex etc etc did the job . Am so of your diamond...I did hint at one for months but was politely, but firmly, told where to go!

My LO is feeding like a mad thing a weel, and after some initial problems with latching on properly, she's settled right down, but has the tendency to feed on and off for two hours at a stretch. It's kind of limiting, but now I have her latching properly, my nips are starting to heal and it's actually starting to be a pleasurable rather than excruciating experience.

Had my stitches out today and I must say that my wound feels much much better for it. DH did some running repairs (with MWs permission) with steri-strip though as the edges aren't quite knitting together. I dread to think what he's done, but I can't see it so..... Still can't stand up for any length of time as I get quite sore and dizzy, and my poor poor feet are too swollen and sore.

anyone else eating for their country? My appetite has gone loopy and I can't get enough in at the moment.

Gaaargh, she's fed on and off since 5:30 and still wants more! Derlor is this normal????

kittykat77 · 11/06/2007 22:38

Hi all,

Thought I would joi in. Posted very early on the antenatel thread but too busy to post very often, so thought I would catch up now (don't seem to be as many posts on this thread!)

Elliot was born on 25th May, weighing 8lb 15 oz , although not due until 9th June, completely different to my first birth, all natural and only G&A, which amazed me!

After 2 wks we are still trying to settle him into a routine, as the night feeds are a bit of a nightmare. Managed 2 days of breastfeeding, but as DD is only 11 months, and he wanted to feed all night the first night we were home, decided it wasn't very practical with DD being very young and still wanting lots of attention.

Hoping he settles down soon as DH has to go back to work in a couple of weeks, so will be a nightmare if he is still very unsettled...

Will try and post as often as is possible with 2 under 1's!!

daisyboo · 12/06/2007 08:59

hi kittykat, and congratulations on the birth of elliot....a lovely name. wow at 2 under 1 though...and i'm impressed you have the time to post at all. My ds is at school and i'm struggling, so i can only imagine!

he was quite a big boy wasn't he? i bet you're glad he didn't cook for those last two weeks!

lilKelBel · 12/06/2007 13:34

Hey Kitty - my little girl Sienna was also born on 25th and I'm also hoping we can stretch time between feeds a bit soon I am also FF, as my DS is young (15mo today). Makes life a lot easier IMHO

Congrats on the natural birth w/ G&A! From now on it's elec cs for me only - my first birth with DS was natural and did me in for months!

daisyboo · 12/06/2007 17:14

is it normal for my LO to poo as much as she does? no sooner do we change her nappy, than she poos in the fresh one. she wakes up with a pooey nappy...gets changed, poos during change, gets into second fresh one, has some milk, poos again, gets changed, poos during change, next fresh nappy, wakes and thinks oh still hungry....has some more milk, poos again....then after a further two pooey nappies in quick succession 9seconds apart), falls asleep for few hours and it starts all over again! and she stinks like you wouldn't believe....

have tried not changing her between sides but she smells too much, and she wont go again in the same nappy...much prefers a fresh one, the little minx!

she did this to me four times when i was trying to settle her last night. no sooner did i put her in the crib, than she pooed. had to wake dh up to deal with her, then i sloped off to the sofa for few hours kip!

is this normal?

RedFraggle · 13/06/2007 10:35

Hello again,

Matthew is being cuddled by DH so I have a few minutes between feeds!

I went and over did it terribly yesterday as I was feeling so much better and so in need of getting out of the house. WHat a mistake! So I will be spending today mainly on the sofa...

My c-section is healing nicely - I asked for dissolvable stitches as I had them last time so no stitches to come out for me. Hope you are healing up nicely too Daisyboo.

Has anyone else been struck down with the baby blues? I seem to dissolve into tears at nothing all the time - and I can't remember for the life of me how long this is supposed to last! Please someone tell me not much longer....

Hope all your babies are sleeping for you!

lilKelBel · 13/06/2007 12:45

Hiya

RF, unfort I too was thinking the blues were behind me. Alas woke this morning feeling a right witch and hating the world. Doesn't help when you've a ton of baby pudge hanging about the waist either - grrrrr. Will be 3 weeks on Friday, can't believe it!!

Re poo - goodness me that sounds like an awful lot of poo. I recall from my days of BF my DS that he had several poos a day but it sounds like you're experiencing something else entirely! Phone the MW, GP, or NHS, I would say...

My LO is spacing her feeds about 2 hours apart now, so a very slight relief from the endless rounds of cluster feeding we had in the first week or so. Pushy mummy me hopes for 3 hourly feeds next so I can settle into a more workable routine with DS and her! It's nigh impossible to go anywhere at the mo!

daisyboo · 13/06/2007 13:24

Hi Redfraggle and welcone to the other side. Hope you're feeling better. I venured out to the shops yesterday and only managed to hobble around next and boots before collapsing in the car. Fell asleep on the sofa at 8:30 and have managed to fall asleep whilst Em has been feeding through the night. Woke up 30 mins after she started and she was still guzzling away!! she's slept for hours this morning and I'm gonna have to get her soon as boobs are like rocks.

Can't help with the blues I'm afraid, given that I'm a certified bona-fide mentalist of the highest order!!!. I was on ADs before Em was born, but the hospital took me off them and gave me a different one so I've been without them for a week. Haven't been too bad, although it did get a bit hairy around days 4-6. Started new ADs today, and also had appointment at the mother and baby unit of the hospital mental health department. they've given me a different AD again, and I'll be seeing them regularly for follow ups. My MH nurse is lovely, and a bloke which I wasn't expecting, but talking about everything just stirs things up for me so feeling a bit raw emotionally at the moment.

Lilkel...hope you're feeling better, but make sure you talk to your HV if you don't feel better soon....it could just be the strain if the last few weeks with the constant feeding and sleep deprivation. The MAP will bring on a period as well so it could be PMT....remember that? . keep well!

I'm doing the sofa thing for the rest of the day too....finishing my knitting and cuddling my beautiful girl!

daisyboo · 13/06/2007 13:25

MW coming this faternoon so I'll make sure I ask her about the poo. i know its not unusual for BF babies to poo after every feed, but what we're getting seems excessive. It's very very smelly as well! Her nickname is "stinky"

lilKelBel · 13/06/2007 13:37

daisy thanks for lending an ear. Really feel awful at the mo - defo PMS-witch-like - want to curl up into ball and self destroy. V interesting about the MAP. I didn't know it brought on AF, PMS, all that. Reminds me why I was on depo shots before (hooray no AF, no PMS....) Hormones of this variety should be illegal!

lilKelBel · 13/06/2007 13:38

sorry in all my self loathing I forgot to wish you luck with your appt this afternoon & hope your poo fountain calms down a bit!!

daisyboo · 13/06/2007 13:53

It's better today, but then again, she isn't feeding as madly as she has been doing over the last few days. I've actually got engorged boobs for the first time and they bloody well hurt. I'm sending DH out for the cabbages as we speak!!

RedFraggle · 13/06/2007 14:53

Aargh! I've got the rock solid problem too. Have been on the verge of poking Matthew to wake him up and get some relief.

Midwife is supposed to be coming today but I have no idea when and it means I can't go to bed for a kip this afternoon which is a bit annoying as I could really do with the sleep.

I've been told that I am at increased risk of PND so I have to keep an eye on it. But it just feels a bit like a death sentence to me, I had a bad time after my daughter was born in 2005 and was really hoping to have an easy ride this time. I know it doesn't work that way logically - but I was hoping.

Charlie999, hope your wound is feeling a bit better. Don't worry about the numbness. I still had numb patches a year on, I think it is pretty common. Hope it is less sore though.

Keep trying to catch up on previous stuff, but Matthew does not like being put down at the moment....

BadZelda · 13/06/2007 16:04

Hello - just thought I'd come and join you on the post-natal thread whilst Matilda is sleeping. Actually have a question too - she was fairly alert yesterday, and fed quite a lot before sleeping the night through (wahay!) but then has continued to sleep all day today and isn't that interested in boob. I'm kind of assuming that this is just her way of recovering from birth, and that once milk starts coming in over the next couple of days she'll perk up a lot more (vaguely remember dd1 sleeping a lot at first). Anyone else notice this? I should just chill today and conserve my energies for the weeks ahead shouldn't I?

lilKelBel · 13/06/2007 17:20

BZ - from what I know I think you're right. the wee things just sleep, sleep, sleep at first. Well actually IME it was more like sleep sleep sleep, eat eat eat, sleep sleep sleep.... I remember wondering if my LO would ever wake up and then when they did and had cluster fed for hours wondering if they would ever stop eating and sleep again! (yes & yes). After a few days they will perk up don't you worry!!

goes w/out saying of course but if you're worried you can always ring the mw/hv/gp to ask about your concerns...

BadZelda · 13/06/2007 18:32

This has set my mind at rest slightly 'Healthy newborns have been so well fed for so many months, many of them don't come into the world with roaring appetites. For many newborns, sleep really is more important than eating.' - She just had a good nosh as well - so guess we just need to go at her pace for a few days.
