Well i think i was the frist to 'pop' from the due in june thread so i thought it was about time we started the post-natal thread.

DS2 is 2 weeks on monday I had him 4 weeks early due to induction for OC. Everything is going really well and i think things are finally starting to settle down (i hope i haven't just spoken too soon!!)

He is really suffering with colic though and were getting about 4 hours sleep a night on average and with a 2.5 year old there is no chance of catching up in the day, but i shouldn't complain as i'm lucky to have got two wonderful boys. Thats it now NO MORE!!!!!9smile0

I know a few other june mums have had their babies so it would be lovely to hear from you to see how you are all getting on (when you get the chance )

daisyboo · 24/06/2007 22:55

hi dg....another five hour feeding frenzy here.....hopefully she'll sleep all night again as my nips need some time to recover!

sounds like you're getting into a routine, lucky you.

I'm of to bed whilst em is asleep.....g'night

bumperlicious · 25/06/2007 07:55

Hi all,

Well I'm taking it as a good sign that there have been no posts since last night. Hopefully you are all getting some sleep.

Pingu, I'm really feeling for you on the BF front. How can something so natural and necessary be sooo hard, and fucking painful?! Wish I had some advice but it's like the blind leading the blind! We are just taking it day by day and sleeping in shifts so that if DD has bad wind and won't settle at least one of us is getting a stint - 2 3 hours sessions for me last night - score! Bless DH, I couldn't be doing this without him - dreading him going back to work. Good luck Pingu, thinking of you.

Thanks for all your support, especially thanks to you daisy, it's good to know you are just on the other end of the phone.

Hi to 3flightsofstairs, and hi to Holly, haven't 'spoken' since you dashed off to hospital. Hope all is well.

hollyandalice · 25/06/2007 11:40

I'm with you all on the sore nips! I though that being an experienced bfer that I'd miss the hideousness, but I was sorely mistaken! I think I may need to take my own advice and get some shields! Owwwww!

We are going to register William after lunch, but we can't agree on a middle name. Any suggestions? His surname is an English city beginning with O!

trendaverter · 25/06/2007 12:42

oh ffs
so tired
have had to call out midwife as something is wrong with my bits and peeing stings so much I could cry.
Feet are so swollen my socks won't go on.
LO has constant wind despite constant burping and won't ever get off to sleep.

I, however, have made a discovery. DUMMIES.

DUMMIES = SLEEP.

I am a bad mother but I am a soon to be slept mother.

hollyandalice · 25/06/2007 12:50

I am going to buy some dummies today TA! I am being used as a human dummy and my nips don't like it. You are not a bad mother, sometimes sucky babies need a dummy to help them settle, therefore dummy=good mother!!

Hope your bits are ok, the stinging pee thing is awful. Have you tried a jug of warm salty water poured over yourself as you pee? If you lean forward on the toilet and pour the water down your bum crack it gets on your bits and protects them from the wee! Sorry if tmi there, but it works for me!

BadZelda · 25/06/2007 12:55

It has to start with an 'h' so he can have really cool initials: w h o ? Is it oxford? William Henry Oxford?

Sorry to hear about that TA - sounds horrible! Could try sitting in a warm salty bath? Might help?

daisyboo · 25/06/2007 13:01

TA...is it cystitis or a UTI.....have you got cranberry juice or lemon barley water? Poor you, it seems to be one thing after another.

I've got to go back to the docs this afternoon...there's still a section of my wound that hasn't healed and is gaping...only about 5mm long, but still! I've also been getting bad stomach pains, especially immediately after I've eaten.

DD has my poor nips all chewed up again The little madam was awake and feeding from 5:30 till 11:30 again last ight, and she just wouldn't settle. I thought she'd gone off at 11:30, but woke again when I changed her nappy. DH took her downstairs (knowing she couldn't possibly be hungry) and she didn't settle till 12:30. She was up again looking for more at 4:30 and I actually slept through her cries...DH had to wake me up!

LOL at the dummies TA....you are not a bad mum...when she's still using one at five...then you'll be a bad mum . DS was a bit sucky and windy and I tried a dummy...it worked for a few weeks until he learnt to spit it out and find his thumb! Go with what works for you!

daisyboo · 25/06/2007 13:02

Holly....don't dummies interfere with BF?

TALLULAHBELLE · 25/06/2007 13:26

Just popping in to say hi. Hope to catch up with this thraed soon. Nice to see TA & Holly on here. Am having a nightmare with the feeding so never really get a chance to get on here. Now have mastisis (both sides) so feeding excruiating & am feverish and sore all the time. Nips in pieces too. Am going to buy a dummy today as well. Had hoped to avoid it for a while yet but LO wants to suck the whole time and I just can't take it. Asked my m/w about nipple shields too but she advised against. Not sure if should get them anyway. Am sporting this seasons lingerie trend - cabbage leaves - feeling so glam. Someone tell me it gets better.

foxybrown · 25/06/2007 13:37

It gets better T, honestly! Sorry, am getting ahead of myself and crashing in here

but i have suffered mastitis, blocked ducts, cracked nipples all that stuff in the past, and it does stop. It hurts and its shit. I quite like those gel-filled pockets you get and heat up to ease the pain of blocked ducts and mastitus.

I'm also a big fan of breast-shells, the ones with holes in the top keep fabric away from your nips but let air in so they can breathe and heal. The ones without holes in mean you can sterilise them and keep the milk. But putting them in your bra they help engorgement by applying continuous, gentle pressure. Just don't bend over with the ones with holes in.

trendaverter · 25/06/2007 13:38

Ahhh what a relief

Thanks for the comments guys, I thought dummies were not en-vogue anymore but you know what, it has been a lifesaver. Glad to hear I am not top of the bad mum stakes just yet! (There's still time )

MW just left, my bits are ok!!
Stop now if easily grossed out, but the way the tear is it's a 'V' shape and what's underneath is just raw sore flesh. I was worried I needed to go back for a stitch but MW says no, just to keep fluids up (I am apparently not eating or drinking anywhere near enough) and take salty baths and pour water on it - same advice as yours

Ahhh we're all in the wars aren't we.

The feelings on this thread are so different to the other thread, it's so different now.
Girls with the ragged boobs - you poor, poor things

foxybrown · 25/06/2007 13:45

dummies are only a problem when you pick them up off the street and put them back in, or swap them over for a babies bottle full of Pepsi at age 5! I used my finger for DS1, he sucked his til 4. At least you can take dummies away.

Everyone gets hung up on making bad habits, but IMHO bad habits can be broken, so don't sweat it and deal with it in a year or two.

BadZelda · 25/06/2007 13:48

Have just had MW round too. Looks like Matilda still has a TOUCH of jaundice but it's much better, but has gained 10 oz and is 2 weeks tomorrow...have been feeding her every 2-3 hours so glad it hasn't been in vain as I'm a bit knackered now! Nips seem to be holding out so far though now that the initial blistering has gone...fingers crossed. TB mastitis sounds horrible. Hoping it gets better for you soon xz

trendaverter · 25/06/2007 13:49

Foxy - don't joke - a 'friend' of mine fed her 2 tango, coke, pepsi at age 2, their staple diet was pringles with tuna pate - I found it horrifying. How can someone feed their kids that?

Now they are 7 and 10 years old, they drink cider and alcopops from the bottle on 'special occasions' (like friends over for dinner). I kid you not.

Best of all? She's a childminder.

daisyboo · 25/06/2007 13:52

I think at this stage in the proceedings it's a case of whatever gets you through the day!

Anyone any experience of vasospasm? My nips are white after DD has fed, then start to ache about five mins after a feed and then are sore and stingy/tingly for about 15-20 mins. I had this with DS and its what caused me to give up eventually. Found some info on Kellymom on vasospasm and that's what it sounds like. Is it just due to bad latch?

Tallulah.....sounds ouchy at your end! Why is this so difficult?

trendaverter · 25/06/2007 13:57

Daisy, that sounds like what I get sometimes even before I was PG...

It hurts like HELL if it's the same thing.

The only thing that relieved it for me was just try and keep boobs warm and don't touch them until it passed - which could be 20-30 mins.

I seemed to get it if a boob got cold. Is it for bfing women only or a common complaint?

daisyboo · 25/06/2007 14:02

TA...it's a type of Reynaud's syndrome I believe and can be aggravated by poor latch. Will mention it to the doc this afternoon and maybe get some gel pads that I can heat up and pop in my bra. Given that BF has been going quite well I really don't want to give up, but with DS it got worse and worse to the point that it felt like someone sticking hot needles in my nips for half an hour after each feed. Mind you I had problems with it when I was pg with DS, but nothing like that this time around.

I think this might just be poor latch as she tends to ease off throughout the duration of the feed so that by the end of it, its got all tuggy and sore.

BadZelda · 25/06/2007 14:19

And FWIW I don't think ANYONE on this thread is a bad mother - for dummies, or FF or anything else that works to make life better and happier for you and the baby.

TALLULAHBELLE · 25/06/2007 14:21

Has anyone tried the nipple shields? Do they help? M/w against it cos of lack of contact.

daisyboo · 25/06/2007 14:23

tallulah, i've used them once or twice to make night feeds a bit more bearable (It always seems worse in the wee small hours when you are really tired and strung oout!). I think the reason they don't like them is they can affect your supply and make the baby lazy about latching on, but there are some women on here who uses them successfully for months....I think holly did!

daisyboo · 25/06/2007 14:25

Oh, and they certainly help with the pain. Even if you were to use them to let your nipples heal a bit. not sure where mastitis is concerned though.....might be better for baby to be in contact and massaiging your aereoli (sp?)

TALLULAHBELLE · 25/06/2007 14:30

Mmmm - never thought about that, just thinking bout the crcked nips getting chance to heal. But sorting the mastisis is more important.
