Blimey, Coriander, what a journey! Glad you're home now, will you have to go away again or is that it now?
We had a first birthday party for ds. I did the whole cake, balloons, party food even though it was mostly adults. It was more of a celebration of surviving the first year to be honest...lol Only thing was me and dh didn't really see much of ds all day (was being passed around) so for his 2nd birthday we had it just the 3 of us which was lovely. His third b/day we went to a big adventure playground with all his aunts, uncles and cousins which he loved.
For dd we'll ave to make a fuss because of ds but will probably keep it to the four of us and maybe invite grandparents if we feel up to it

HenriettaHippo · 10/05/2007 09:17

hi all,

Glad the eye is clearing up Munki. Conjunctivitis is horrible, make sure you don't get it yourself, as it is yukky!

We had a big party for DS1's first birthday - joint birthday and house warming as we'd moved (8 months earlier!!). It was a bit much for him, but we had a good time. He's getting 2 birthday parties this year, one here and one in London with my original NCT group - amazingly 3 years on, and 4 moved out of London, all 8 of us are still in regular touch. Poor old DS2 meanwhile gets to have his first birthday on a plane to Australia in September. With the time difference, his birthday will be half as long as it's meant to be I think!!!

compo, great news on the cheese front. I had Fraser vomit up all his meal on Monday after he choked on a bit of rusk . We're not that great on lumps. good at mushing things up in our hands though . I am of you Cori, with your BLW going on, I'm sure if that was F he'd just gag his way from breakfast to tea... !

Was thinking again about GF - it's probably good that we haven't been able to talk about her methods, as we seem very successfully to have avoided any arguments on this thread!!! And now they're 8 months old we've all found our own routines/non-routines! So no need to discuss naps at 9 am.

Coriander73 · 10/05/2007 16:37

HH, if you could have seen the state of J's highchair & floor whilst I've been away (which I have just scrubbed..as DH NEVER does it..) you'll be glad F isn't BLW!!! It's funny as it's great he's into his food lumpy & all but it's so much easier to just spoon him puree (I guess that's the wanting "everthing to be tidy "coming out!!!)...he will eat yogs & cereal off the spoon so I guess you could say we're doing a bit of both (the BLW lobby would shoot me at this point )

Coriander73 · 10/05/2007 16:38

& yes quite agree about GF...

homemama · 10/05/2007 18:38

Cori, can I ask?? (I'm doing BLW too) What do you do about breakfast? Unless I'm giving her fruit, I spoon feed it to her. Today she had weetabix but she just wants to stick her hand in the bowl, she hates the spoon. Suggestions gratefully received.

Oh and yes, it is soooooooo messy. I am constantly scrubbing banana and mashed potato off her highchair. Thank goodness it's wooden! James had a a plastic one and it was bad enough cleaning that when doing conventional weaning!

HenriettaHippo · 11/05/2007 10:19

homemama, I think you can make porridge up pretty thick so that LO can pick it up in her hands and ram it in?

Ivor · 11/05/2007 14:39

Hello all,
Very of all this talk of weekends away, hope everyone has wounderful times.

Homemama, have you tried bananas, was the first thing DS managed to pick up and nosh on his own, made a mess but he was very happy with himself about it!
DS has just being getting into rusks, I only give him a 1/4 as a treat but he slavers away at it before mushing the remains into his hair! They are a rare thing over here, I paid over $6 for a little box, DH and I have eaten more than DS

Hello Munkibaby, nice to meet you.
We have also been thinking about DS's first birthday. We're hoping to be in a new house by then so it will be a joint house warming and Birthday bash.
We are going to invite evryone who came to the shower so it's going to be the majority of DH's work mates and their wives / partners.
My Mum will also be over so we'll have a special dinner with just the 4 of us on his actual Birthday.

How many days to go now Cori? Chin up, soon be over. Are you having a leaving do?

Coriander73 · 11/05/2007 20:43

Funny you should ask about porridge Homemama!! I was only saying this morning to DH how we'd go about porridge as I have it every day & want J to try although I don't think we'll have much a problem as he does luckily take weetabix off the spoon & his yoghurt (thank goodness...could you imagine the mess?!). How about distracting her with another spoon or toy? Some days we just do fruit (papaya, banana mango & pear have worked really well) & / or toast or bagel with just a little butter or marmite We had pasta again today which he loves...funny seeing him trying to not let the shapes slip from his grasp

Ivor, finish July 17th! Actually I had lunch with my boss today - you know the one-had her first baby at 40, super career driven blah blah-. I had texted her ( as she's on leave I didn't want to call...oh the modern age!) to tell her I had resigned & which point she invted me over for a "networking lunch" So in short, she's incredible mellow, is now definitely taking her 6 months & will see what she does in the future....as for the networking, well we didn't even talk about work really. She has a maternity nurse with her for 3 months & it was interesting observing on the outside how this operandis bebe was working! Nurse doesn't ever let her cry & frets the whole time, my boss thinks she should leave her...she seeks her advice all the time & doesn't seem to trust her instinct & even apologised as she had decided to give baby the bottle (she's combining BF / FF) rather than the nurse..

DH out for the evening & I've just scrubbed the kitchen...how sad is that for a Friday evening??! Perhaps I'll settle down with a glass of wine & two recorded episodes of Grey's Anatomy!!

Hello,

I've not been on MN for a while. Have been busy sorting out DS's christening which is next week! We've got loads to do this w/e as we're in the middle of decorating (v bad timing) and need to sand and paint the living room this weekend, weed the garden and generally clean and make everything look respectable as we're having the reception at our house after the christening.
DS is bottom shuffling now. He hates being on his tummy so he kinds of bounces up and down on his bottom to get momentum then shuffles forwards a bit
He is eating loads too and I'm racking my brains for recipe ideas. He loves fish but not very keen on red meat. He has got our dinner leftover for tomorrow though (chicken, tomatoes, red pepper, sweet potato and potato) Hope he likes it.

mrsharrypotter · 12/05/2007 14:20

Just a quick one, I've been an Aunty for 15 hours and I haven't met my beautiful little niece yet (but I have seen a picture). She was born at 11.03pm last night, weighing 8lbs 7oz and has been called Daisy-May .
I'm at work and think I may get fired, because I really can't concentrate!

HenriettaHippo · 12/05/2007 20:10

Congratulations AuntyHarryPotter!!

compo · 12/05/2007 21:44

Congratulations and what a beautiful name too. You'll be able to give her lots of advice and point her towards Mumsnet.
Watching Eurovision with lots of wine... must be mad!

bristols · 12/05/2007 21:49

Congratulations, MrsHP! When are you going to meet her?

We've had a fantastic few days in Windsor. The hotel was gorgeous and I had a back massage and facial while we were there. Total bliss. We also went to Windsor Castle and Legoland. It was such a treat to spend all that time together as a family. Am very tired now, though.

FYI, the matching underwear thing is still going strong. I think I've managed about five days in a row now And, ladies, it has done wonders for my love life. DH can't keep his hands off me! Sorry if TMI but its really lovely!

More soon, when I'm a bit more awake. Just wanted to check in. Glad everyone's OK x

mabel1973 · 13/05/2007 12:58

hello
just checking in ...back from sunny (!) wales. Actually the weather wasn't too bad, we only had a couple of rainy days. The ds's loved the beach and we took them on a steam train which DS1 thought was amazing. DS2 didn't sleep too well, but just noticed his top left tooth is finally through, so it could be that. I have been having to feed him back to sleep at anytime between 1am and 4am for the last week, so now we're home i'm trying to crack that! anyway, will check in properly tommmrow when i've got more time

mrsharrypotter · 13/05/2007 14:19

Bristols, my team leader sent me home at 8 last night so I could meet her, I was driving her mad and it was really quiet so she kicked me out . She is beautiful and quite a content little girl. SIL refused bf advice based on the fact she could get all she needed from me and is genuinly listening to and following any advice I give her, including how i thought it was best to go about the 1st feed and all manner of other things. I'm all of a sudden worried that I'm going to give the wrong advice!

MunkiBaby · 13/05/2007 22:39

Hello Hello.
Seems as though everyone had nice weekends!

Cori - i remember reading about the super-career-boss-lady months ago. the update on her" outlook" to mummie-hood was very interesting. So after all that, she actually did take 6 months?! Amazing how it can all change when they arrive, eh? Oh and wasnt she speaking about a wet-nurse when she was prego? i guess she's doing the next thing, hiring a maternity nurse. Shame that the nurse never lets the baby cry. Perhaps the nurse is only creating a future issue for the mum?

((side note for cori - scrubbing the floor on a friday? wow! you were definitely deserving of the wine and Dr. Dreamy!))

MHP - congrats on becoming AuntyHP! such a cute name too! ((i couldnt pull that one off, as i was born in Texas...it just goes with the southern states, hillbilly stereotype americans sometimes have....shame really cos' its a darling little name!))

Compo - I'll admit it! fine! Fine! yes, i watched eurovision as well. was there ever a hope for UK? ((no offense to anyone who had hope!)) heheheh but for sheer cheese of the contest, it should've been Ukraine. ha!

Bristols - windsor sounds like a total dream! very glad you had a relaxing time! oh and glad that the underwear is...errr...."working out" for you. hheheheh

Mabel- where in wales were you visiting?? oh and wahey! on the top left tooth. DS has 4 and has learned very quickly NOT to bite mummy during bfing! ouch! Anyways, hope your ds2 sleeps better tonight.

MunkiBaby · 13/05/2007 23:55

((why do i always do 2 entries at a time?!? odd.))

DS had his first taste of garlic on saturday. i cut up butternut squash, a tiny bit of basil, and 2 (()) cloves of garlic...steamed it all together, did a quick mashing. He loved it! im very pleased (and surprised) that he didn't reject such a strong flavour. ((i'm sure the incredible sweetness of the butternut squash had alot to do with it, though))
hey, whatever helps!

Friday, the LO and i went for a little walk to the next village...i heard a rumour that there was a lovely little waterfall...sure enough, there was! it was more for the sake of showing something new to ds more than anything else. he wasn't too interested in the waterfall itself, but more into staring down at the current of water it was making. i luv watching little minds at work. its a good thing we headed back home when we did because it started chucking it down right as i was walking up to my driveway. and i have to say that it HAS NOT STOPPED raining since then! Guess that's what we get for living in Wales.
its nice to have the rain, but a few hours' break would be devine!

Coriander73 · 14/05/2007 10:02

Morning ladies

First day in the office since Thursday before last (what with the bank holiday & me being away)...it's as depressing as always & no-one has even noticed that I've had all my hair chopped!!!! Men, I can almost forgive as they're so dippy when it comes to noticing but my female colleagues have just looked up, mutterred something about hello stranger, & that was that...I would normally care but honestly it was a radical haircut!!!!!!!!

Had a good weekend even though we couldn't sail due to the weather. DH sails & teaches etc & we went to visit some friends who have a boat & wanted us to sail with them (well, DH to sail, me to a drink & watch them hard at it putting up the right type of sail etc!! ). However it just chucked it down so we ended up indoors. These friends are fab but they don't have children (& will not now...too old etc) & their house it spotless - & I found myself apologising every two seconds for the mess my two, or rather J seemd to be making with his food etc!!!! See HH, another good reason not to BLW...just frightfully messy & stressful when you are at other peoples' houses!!!!!! Anyhow, he did have a little of our cooked breakfast yday - he ate sausage (nice ones not Tesco blue strip!) scrambled egg & grilled tomatoes ...!!!!

Mrytle, good luck with the Christening! I have my cousins wedding on Saturday & a friends Christening 1st July- luckily can wear the same dress for both! By the way do you know if you can still be a Godparent even if you are a different religion (to CofE etc) & have not been christened yourself etc??? A friend of mine wants me to be for her DD1 but we don't think that I will be allowed....

mabel1973 · 14/05/2007 12:40

munki- we were nr cardigan, a tiny little cove called cwm tydu - perfect!
we had a better night last night thanks, he woke at 11.30pm and i gave him some nurofen as he was suffereing with his next tooth, and all quiet til 7.15am this morning - bliss!

Cori - what is your hair like? (sorry i've not had chanve to catch up on what's been going on in the last week)

It is my birthday tommorow, so DH has the day off work and is taking me out to lunch. After a week spent with the whole family 24 hours a day, i think DH really appreciates how 'full on' it is being with them all the time, so i expect to be spoilt tommmrow!

Coriander73 · 14/05/2007 14:17

I assume your 34 tom?! Happy birthday in advance...although you must drop in so we can wish you a happy day Hair is very short into back of neck from being up to my shoulders!

(Nurofen is the only thing that works for J...it's fab I say! )

Grrrr · 14/05/2007 14:34

Hi, nice to see you posting again homemama, you were my morning sickness buddy.

ds2 is crawling all over now (turned 8 months this weekend), pulling himself up on the furniture and trying to get between things by letting go with one hand and reaching out to the next nearest thing that might support him. He was holding onto the back of one of those push along walkers yesterday and he does it all himself because I haven't been encouraging it as I worry that its all a bit too early for his little leggies. He is desperate to join in with whatever ds1 is doing, cue much complaining from ds1 who has regressed with his toilet habits, wetting himself almost once a day .

We're doing the traditional weaning with mushed up food as he only has 2 teeth and doesnt seem to like anything too lumpy on his gums which appear to be giving him some trouble at the moment. He won't even attempt a piece of banana which he loves mashed up and spooned in.

Must go and read the thread fully now to bring me up to date with everyone.

compo · 14/05/2007 14:37

welcome back Grrr - hope you are not working too hard. My dd is 8 months today, can't beleive how quick time has fown. No signs of crawling here but lots of rolling over now! We're te same with food - purees and mashed up stuff. Went to a restaurant yesterday and she quite happily let me put bits if bread and cheese into her mouth but just held the bits I gave her, or threw it on the floor!

Coriander73 · 14/05/2007 15:26

Hi Grrr (good to see you popping in!)

J also 8 months on Wednesday & showing no signs whatsoever in crawling..! DD was crawling at this stage so I wonder when he'll be ready Still hates being on his tummy...

OP posts:
fairysnuff · 14/05/2007 20:52

Hey all, haven't been oon in a while, but been lurking.
Not much to tell on my side.
DD has two teeth, eats mush too but has just begun to master holding a banana.
Crawling everywhere and pulling herself up on teh furniture. Which is not good cos she panics when she begins to fall and stiffens, so falls like 'timber!'
Although this is improving with practice

Having bother with her tonight though. One minute laughing, the next screaming!?
I just made it to the top of the stairs, cos she was crying, when she stopped!
So have come back down, we will see how long before I am at it again.
Poor thing, it must be teeth. Top two are ripe for the cutting!

Coriander, I don't think there should be a problem with being a Godparent if you are a different faith.
At least not according to my priest.
DH and famliy are C of S whilst I am catholic, and we had his cousin as our godparent for his side (catholic christening). The way the priest put it was that; The parents choose the people they feel that they would like their child to turn to in times of trouble. Would you be happy for them to do that and be sure that they would give advice that would be of a similar line to you. If it would be along the same lines of faith that would be fab but as long as you feel that they are good people, that was all that mattered.
I also thought about it the old fashioned way, would I be happy for these people to care for my children should anything (god forbid) happen to me.
That was why I could not choose DH's Brother. It would be too much of a culture shop for poor DD to end up being cared for by his wife. Who is Poles apart in her parenting from DH and I.
The people we chose are Very similar in thoughts and parenting (though my younger elder brother is yet to prove it)

fairysnuff · 14/05/2007 20:54

Culture shock not shop
Doh!
