Cori - teachingis certainly not for the fainthearted or paperwork-shy! But it has it's benefits in terms of your holidays coinciding with the kiddies and... errr, I think that's it isn't it?...

... only joking! I'm sure it's very rewarding! Have you considered doing adult evening classes? I have a friend that used to do Italian classes to help fund her PHD and she quite enjoyed that.

Tassis, no YANBU IMO but the newbie probably thought you were! But you've probably scared her off now so don't worry

We have ILs visiting at the moment sn we nipped up to the lakes this PM to ake DS's to the steam railway - they loved it, those of you with baby boys have all this to come but I've never seen a little boy happier than when watching a steam train pull into a station!

mabel1973 · 20/07/2007 15:56

tassis - don't think you are being unreasonanle, but sometimes it difficult to work out how things are perceived by other people when it's written down rather than spoken, i think that's how half the arguments on mn start, by people taking things the wrong way.

Well i took DS1 into town today to get his wedding outfit sorted. He was sent a hand made pale blue(!) waistcoat earlier this week, and i had to go out and buy, white shirt, navy trousers and black shoes. So hard to find black shoes for a toddler...as they are paying for them I got him some kickers.....forty quid, i don't spend that on shoes these days!!! his shoes normally come from the clarks factory shop and they are still twenty quid! And the navy trousers start at pre-school age, so i had to get him age 3, which are too long, so i'll have to take them up..sigh!

goodness knows what DS2 is going to wear, haven't got that far yet!

Myrtle1 · 20/07/2007 21:24

Hello,
Cori, what about doing translation work?
DS drinks loads of milk compared to other LOs on here. He'll have 2 bottles in the daytime (7oz) and for the last few nights he's had 2 bottles or about 12oz at bedtime! He just has water with breakfast though but I'd stopped the breakfast milk when he was waking at 5am for a bottle as I didn't think he needed another one at breakfast. He has water in an open top doidy cup with breaskfast.

DH booked us a holiday cottage on Isle of Wight today for September. He is from Isle of Wight so he knows all the good places plus lots of our friends still live there so it should be lovely

zmandaz · 20/07/2007 22:20

We went to a BBQ at the Scout group I help at tonight and there was a baby there who was 4 days younger than DD. Whilst she sat quietly, watching what was happening and eating bits of bread in a very neat and clean manner, DD was fidgeting, twisting round to see her reflection in the window, shouting 'hiya' at anyone who walked by and at her own reflection and managed to get the mini chocolate biscuit I thought I'd given her very discreetly all over her face, hands and me. Bless!

Next sale tomorrow, yey! Not to mention HP day. I hope they deliver it early. Our post has been getting to us around 5pm over the last week but I think they'll send the books by courier so as not to weight the poor posties down on their bicycles. I'm soooo excited! If you really wanted an exciting night you could queue up for the HP launch at midnight then swap queues for the Next sales at 5am! On that note I'm going to snuggle up in my nice cosy bed and be very thankful for Amazon!

Marls001 · 21/07/2007 01:54

HH: Wow - 10 miles! I think that's amazing. I haven't ever done one over 8 miles.
I'd say make yourself an iPod list called "GreatSouth" and upload all the upbeat music you think might be good for running ... then don't let yourself listen to it except when you're training ... (You won't get tired of the songs so they'll still be motivating, but they'll mean "running" to you & should feel like old friends by October, helping quell any race nervousness. Works for me!)

Have missed y'all; tried to keep up but not had time
House on market, showing well (yay!) constantly cleaning and caring for two people plus living space ... not going to get any less crazy 'til August 6th; will be back from art camp then. Leaving for Houston next Wed. & then on to Tennessee the Sunday after that.

DH is gone quite a bit. Was in Dallas Tues-Thurs on business (as every week), now in Milwaukee for the weekend, a "buddy" trip he & his best friend have been trying to plan for 3 years! There's never been any good time both of them could go. They're attending the baseball game Sat. to (hopefully) see Barry Bonds break home run record.
Was sick to my stomach today, having to hold the baby while standing over the sink . When DH called tonight I said, "You owe me" though I'm glad he could go.

Take care everyone & will be back in a few weeks!

bristols · 21/07/2007 18:41

Went for my dating scan yesterday. By my dates, I was 11+6 but they only made me 9 weeks . My EDD has changed from 2 Feb to 22 Feb. It's a bit of a shame as we wanted to tell people over the weekend but we feel that we should wait until the 12 week mark now. I also wanted to tell work as soon as I went back but will wait an extra week now.

It's all a bit strange because it means I was only 3+6 when I got the BFP. I'm worried that I am, in fact, 12 weeks, but that it's not growing properly. DH assures me that that's unlikely. Probably worrying over nothing. It's going to be a loooooooong pregnancy!

Had some sad news yesterday; Mum's brother died. He was only about 70, so not that old really. Thankfully, Mum and Dad came over from France to see him last week so she felt better about that. We had been back to Glos to see him the week before. He got to see DS for the first time which was nice.

Other than that, things are good. Trying to get out and about in between the rain.

Hope you're all having a good weekend.

kreamkrackers · 21/07/2007 20:01

hi everyone

been full of a cold yet again, it just doesn't seem to be shifting fully then comes back worse than before.

bristols - sorry about your uncle. oh and if you go over due beware that baby could be born on feb 29th

zmandaz - fab to here she's saying hiya, thought dd2 has said it a few times but not sure if it really was. is anybody elses baby saying words rather than babble? dd2 definetly says no no no and shakes her head, i wonder how she picked that up so well?

has anybody heard from mrsharrypotter? she might have her head stuck in the new book no doubt. i really need to shift these nappies before we move house next weekend as i don't want them getting lost so fairysnuff if i don't hear from her by monday are you still wanting to buy the nappies?

also has anybody got any tips on moving house? we moved into this house just before having dd1 so the amount of stuff has built up and although we're hiring a removal van we don't drive so can't move smaller bits ourself which is a bit of a pain.

hope everyones having a good weekend despite all this horrible rain.

fairysnuff · 21/07/2007 20:38

Oh Lordy!
I need to get my spending under control! But I really do think that they are a good price and will do well for when DD is a bit older and moving onto potty training?
Is that good logic or, stop you must resist the tempation to spend another £30!!??

zmandaz · 23/07/2007 10:32

Bristols - sorry to hear about your uncle. I don't believe I got the right dates at any of my scans and they told me DD would be larger than average but she was only 7lb so I wouldn't worry. How exciting going through the scans stage again though.

KK - DD says Mama too but usually when she's having a strop! But that's it so far other than babble.

Went mad in the Next sale and bought her loads of new clothes but then she's had a growth spurt and has outgrown pretty much all of her old stuff. My sister bought her a load of 12-18 month stuff too. I've written to Next to complain about the necklines on their tops. I find it very difficult to get them over DD's head, especially the Peppa Pig ones, yet they fit her perfectly everywhere else. I don't see why they can't put a bit extra elastic in or poppers. Bet I don't get a reply!

Have finished HP and enjoyed it very much. Going to see the new movie tomorrow night. First time I've been to the cinema in ages.

DD is full of cold at the moment but quite cheerful with it. Got to trail her round Morrisons later so am hoping she'll stay that way!

mabel1973 · 23/07/2007 13:38

Bristols - i wouldn't worry too much about your dates, they arrive when they're ready these babies, don't they!

I am so fed up with this weather!!!!! 1st day of the hols and it is raining again, i put out a load of washing this morning as it was quite sunny 1st thing, i just can't be bothered to go out get drenched to bring it back in.

Dh went on a stag do this weekend, so i took the boys over to my mums to stay over, while i went round to a frineds house for the evening.
Well an hour before i went out DS1 threw up all over me covering me literally from head to toe, i had to get in the shower and my clothes were covered. He seemed ok, afterwards so i decided to still go out as my friend only lived 10 minutes away, but i had no clean clothes so had to borrow some off my mum - no offence to my mum, but i felt so self concious, the waistband on my jeans was somewhere just below my boobs . The evening didn't excatly go without a hitch. DS2 woke up at about 9.30pm and my mum and dad really struggled to settle him, then when i got home at about 12.30am, ds1 wasn't in his bed, but had gone and got in with my mum and dad!

Sometimes i feel that i am not 'allowed' to go out anymore and somebody somewhere is trying to make me feel guilty!

tassisssss · 24/07/2007 18:11

mabel - typical night! it's as if they sense that you're going out! have you found a wedding outfit for ds2? wedding clothes for boys are so tricky aren't they? we're scottish so have been sorted since ds has been old enough to wear a kilt - very cute! - but so little smart stuff in the shops for baby boys. Girls must be so much easier!

T42 - our ds is, at 4, still the same about steam trains. Do try to go to a Day out with Thomas (happens at steam engine places around the country). A great day out for wee ones.

mandaz - you dd sounds adorable. It's so cute when they wave and say Hiya and so on. Gorgeous stage (I know I always say that!). I got some lovely bits in the next sale for dd for next summer. Really hope they'll fit and she's not into 2-3 stuff by next summer as she's into 12-18 already (I bought 18-24).

britsols - sympathy re date change. I found the wait to 12 weeks so long both times. Sorry about your uncle. You keeping well?

kk - how's the cold?

I have tonsillitus. Feel quite sorry for myself. Thankfully lovely friend took ds for the day and dh was able to take a half day. I got a/bs this morning so hopefully they'll kick in soon. Typical timing as it's our anniversary tomorrow night and we were planning to go out for dinner for the first time in ages.

Lucy's new thing is to post things down the toilet. She'll pick a wooden animal from ds' Noah's Ark (which she loves...he was never massively into it) and crawl through and pop in into the loo. She thinks she's so clever. We need to learn to close the door!

zmandaz · 24/07/2007 19:14

Tassis - It's hard fitting clothes at this stage isn't it. DD fits most things 9-12 months but she's very long so she's getting into 12-18 months trousers length wise but they're too big on the waist. It'll be interesting to see how things change once she hits a year old because the age gap on the clothes lengthens to 6 months or a year doesn't it?

DD discovered today that she can stand up in her cot and ping her mobile to make all the characters jiggle and the music plays. She was laughing away to herself as she did it. Monkey! She loves standing up and trying very hard to balance without holding on to anything. I love this stage as she's beginning to understand a bit more of what I say (not that she takes any notice most of the time, especially if I say no!) and she's so mischievous. I can't wait till her birthday!

HenriettaHippo · 25/07/2007 11:27

Marls, I hope you're feeling better? Thanks for the tips on running. I don't own an ipod though!!

sounds like everyone's los are growing up fast. It's going so quickly...

fairysnuff · 25/07/2007 15:37

I know you shouldn't compare, my LO will learn at her own pace and in her own good time, but she is still babbling, no signs of a clear 'daddy' yet and she is not trying to balance at all, stand and push her walker, but stand alone, nope, right back onto her bottom!
I thought she might be an early walker, cos she started crawling just before 6 months, but she seems quite happy with that for a mode of travel just yet!

Smiles for britain though, and loves to be in the water. In classes at the pool, they try to get her to travel on my back, but she is off and straight into the water! I have to flip over and retrieve her as she dives!!

They sit them at the edge of the pool too, and then encourage them to jump into your arms, my DD won't even sit at the edge, she is clambering straight in!

Bristols, I lost weeks when I went to scans too! I thought I was 12 when I was only 11 and then at 20, they said I was about 19 or something! Mad!
Keep imagining that I am preggers! Just wishful thinking! I had one wee visit from AF but I think that was just cos I came off the pill, how am I meant to get preggers if I don't have any periods!!
Would I have to be at it every night, just in case! Don't think I could manage it!

Coriander73 · 25/07/2007 16:05

ohh fairy, sounds as though you want to be be though!!!!!! bristols, don't worry about dates...I was convinced I was futher along with J only to be told not. Quite disheartening when I realised that I had 3 more weeks of MS!!!

Talking of babies, a friend of mine had her first last night - a 9lb baby girl, yet to be named! Made me feel slightly broody...just slightly!

J has been sleeping for Britain today..3 hours this morning then this afternoon it's been nearly two hours again. He seems fine, not under the weather etc but I just can't imagine he can be that tired...or..more importantly remember DD having long sleeps like that..although she must have I imagine. Growth spurt anyone??

Up with inlaws for a few days. It's been raining all the time...we did however manage a quick escape yday afternoon to visit Melbourne & Repton. This time last year we were also here with them but it was baking hot, I tried to hide indoors in the shade & DD was happily in the paddling pool...oh how times pass...

OP posts:
teafortwoandtwofortea · 25/07/2007 20:02

Cori - don't forget that to get pg you need to have sex - that should put you off

Tassis - that's in our plans, apparently they have a christmas thing where the fat controller gives out presents so we're going to try for that. We also live near Carnforth where the train they use for the hogwarts express is kept so we'll try and get to see it sometime.

Meanwhile in T42's house... DS1 has chicken pox [tearing hair out emoticon] - does anyone know if you're suppoesed to take them to the docs to have the diagnosis confirmed for their medical records? Anyway, now I have to ring work and get them to cancel my clinics for next week - they'll not be pleased as 3 of the main admin staff are on hols!

Bristols - sorry to hear about your uncle, hope you're OK and family's managing.

Marls - Hope everything's going well with selling your place and you're feeling better.

KK - my advice for moving is START PACKING NOW! Seriously though, we thought we were so organised but on the day it's always mad so the more you get done before the better. Also pack DD's stuff in a different box and when you get to the new place unpack her first so she can settle while you get going with the rest of it. Plan to get take out so you don't need to worry about kitchen stuff and make sure you can find your bed, duvet and pillows easily - apart from that it doesn't matter - good luck!

tassisssss · 25/07/2007 20:05

T42 - sympathy re pox...we didn't take ds to doctor...have you got calamile and piritin?

It's day 3 of tonsillitus and 36 hours since startin a/bs and I still feel terrible. And it's our anniversary and we've had to postpone night out.

Coriander73 · 25/07/2007 20:56

When DC had the pox last year I was advised by the surgery to not go to the doctors as it's so highly contagious!! They said buy some aqueous calamine lotion, get some piriton in & sit tight...!!!!

RAIN RAIN GO AWAY COME AGAIN ANOTHER DAY...or not this side of 2008 please!!!! GRRRRRRRRR

OP posts:
kreamkrackers · 26/07/2007 17:31

just a quick message to say i'll be back soon, packing the computer now really nervous but can't wait, this is such hard work having a sn child and a crawling baby to deal with as well as the whole of the house to pack up. i've asked my family for help but as usual they're all too busy

i've been having lots of sleepness nights this week and it's making me feel very low, can't wait until we're settled in the new house.

speak soon

oh and i'll sell the nappies when i'm back online, dp has packed them away and he hasn't been labelling the boxes that he's packed

zmandaz · 26/07/2007 19:25

KK - hope the move goes well

Fairysnuff - DD didn't start even trying to crawl until a couple of weeks ago and whilst she can just about comando crawl, she's not really that bothered. She's not showing any signs of walking yet, she's still just pulling herself up to standing and clinging onto things. I haven't bought her a walker yet to encourage her but I think my sister is buying her one for her birthday. I've seen so many babies recently, all about the same age and all totally different in whether they're moving around or not. Your swimming class sounds really good. I wish I had more confidence to take DD. Maybe in September. I've now lost a stone and a half so am feeling a bit happier but still a long way to go!

DD has an ear infection so is not herself at the moment. I've got some anti-biotics for her.

I can actually see some blue sky outside. Yey! I hope it lasts.

teafortwoandtwofortea · 26/07/2007 20:41

Mandaz - hope your DD feels better soon bless her!

Cori - I know the feeling, rain is a SAHM's worst enemy!

Re chicken pox, I rang the docs and they said that since DH had an appt of his own today (he has signed up for that procedure - no more babies here!) just to take DS1 along and get it confirmed. The doctor says he thinks it's a mild case so fingers crossed - I'd rather not have to take annual leave to care for my pox ridden child. Unfortunately I'll probably have to as DS2 will get now as well....

Coriander73 · 28/07/2007 19:51

Just where is everybody?!!!!!!!!!! No msgs since last Thursday..I do hope we aren't dying as a thread?!!!!! Come on girls!

Last day with in-laws & I have made a very complex lasagna...complex in that it has lots of ingredients that I wouldn't have thought of & that you have to cook the ragu part for 4 hours...never done it before & am feeling very nervous as it's only the second time I've cooked for the old inlaws!!!!!!!

J has cut two teeth on top & is suffering!!! Quite nasty ezcema behind his knees...seems to worse when he has strawberries or goes near grass

OP posts:
zmandaz · 28/07/2007 21:50

I was wondering the same thing

DD is now pretty much over her ear infection but I have now got swollen glands, feeling lethargic and sore throat. Hey ho, these things happen. It doesn't help that it feels like we're in the middle of winter! I'm sure cases of depression will be much higher this year because of the lack of sunshine!

DD is cutting 4 top teeth at once! She's got 2 at the bottom which have come through nicely. No wonder she has been under the weather.

I'm going to see our pictures at Venture on Monday. I'm a bit nervous as I only want the free one. I hope they don't try the hard sell tricks to get you to buy more because I just can't afford it. I'm taking my Mum and sister for moral support! I do think it's mad that they charge so much. If they were a bit cheaper I'd have been tempted to buy some. I'm going to take DD to Olan Mills in December as last year I got a lovely Christmas package which cost £60 and consisted of 2 10x8 pics, smaller - wallet size pics, Christmas cards and keyrings etc. I think their prices are generally a lot cheaper too so I'll probably use them in the future rather than Venture.

Hope everyones having a good weekend

fairysnuff · 29/07/2007 17:49

We went to a wedding dance last night, leaving DD with my mum and sister, who is up visiting, with a view to staying, not sure how any of us feel about that. She is very ........hmm whats the word? She sucks out all your good energy and still ends up looking miserable Poor thing, she is only 23 (just turned) and is so reserved and frightened to let her, 'I am too cool to care' guard down and just enjoy!
I am a smiler, by nature and never know what to do with this permanently unreadable face.
I bought her a birthday pressie, which I thought was fabo and sure to raise a smile, but I am still not sure if she just thinks it is some silly nonsense for which I am to be mocked later!

Aaaanyway!
We went to the wedding danec of a friend of DH's and the band was just awful
It was in the same place where DH and I got married just 2 years ago and I couldn't help but harp back to my own day!
When we were laeving, we managed a word with the bride and groom and I said that I was soo jealous cos I wanted to be them again! The groom said, 'Tough!'
But he said it with a smile, I hope I didn't annoy them
Was a bit of a let down, cos the band was not so good and I didn't really know anyone. I had to keep following DH outside, for him to have a cigar, just so I wasn't left alone to look into space!

DD spent the night being clingy to Granny, poor sis thinks DD doesn't like her now!
Think she is teething a little too. We have about 4 that are thinking about coming through, but I have no idea which one might be on it's way first!

Should we be starting a new thread anyway? this one is huuge!
I have no clue how to do a link though, and we would need it so that others could follow, eh?
