Right ladies this is going to be used as a tip's, questions and answers etc thread for those of us who have had our babies and can't keep up with the chat on the other thread. (my word those ladies can talk)

And of course everyone is welcome to post on here the more advice etc the better.

where did you come from

claricebean · 03/05/2007 08:33

Morning all, hope you had good nights. Our wasn't bad: 11pm, 2:45am, 6:45am and still asleep now at 9:15am. Am glad that some feeds are stretching back beyond the three hours we had regressed to the two nights before. And she settles well afterwards, which is lovely so am only up for half an hour at a time. So can't complain too much there.

pinions Ruby has milk spots too. They seem to appear in a nano second, but I've noticed they go quite suddenly too. I remember them with the others. Agree that washing with cooled boiled water is the best thing if you want to do something, although I am a big advocate of letting these things clear up themselves.

maveta - hello fellow Spain dweller . Very impressed you are posting so soon as a new mummy. The engorgement is grim isn't it, but the good news is that it doesn't last long. Sounds like you got lots of good advice. I was told not to use a pump to help relieve it with DD1, which of course I adhered to as she was my first. By DD2 I thought, well why not if it helps, and expressed a couple of ounces. It eased the pain and started my freezer stock nicely. Theoretically it does tell your body to produce more, but I figure that since engorgement only lasts a few days, I'll worry about over supply later . This time my engorgement wasn't so bad. I think that's one of the (only ) things that your body does better in subsequent pg's.

Hello SOKL, MIABT and everyone else who's posted. LOL at not liking newborn stage, SOKL. I don't think you're alone there, although I must say it's one of my favourites. I love it. Especially when they cuddle in to your chest in the foetal position. Last night Ruby left a little ear print on my chest . Of course, only love it once the feeding is sorted so you can tell my nips are healing

Have a good day all.

Morning ladies....

I'm soooooooooo tired.....my head is thumping - I just need sleep. Porr Robyn had a very unsettled night with wind. She was screaming out in pain and stretching her legs out - no amount of winding seemed to help...have doubled the dose of infacol to 2 droppers and that seemed to help at subsequent feeds. She would settle fine in an upright position on my chest but as soon as I lay her in her moses basket within 5 mins you could tell she was in pain as she started wimpering and then it was full on crying.

Finally had some success by putting a pillow under the moses basket top end int he cot so it is a bit raised so she is not lying totally flat and she settled well after this...sigh! So pinions...don't know if that would help you at all? I will definatley have to get some Happinose for James - thanks for that - had never even heard of it....

Have just received the most beautiful gift through the post from Phil's best friend. He is in the RAF and we don't see him much as he is always away in foreign climes. He was our best man and I am astonished at the thoughtfulness of the gift...especially from a man!

It is basically a bouquet of flowers but it is not actually made from flowers but little pairs of pink socks and clothes rolled up to look like roses in a boquet of flowers - it is SO CUTE!

well I am up and ready awaiting the health visitor....eugh she is due at 9.30....
Have a good day everyone!

Sexonknackeredlegs · 03/05/2007 09:06

Morning all.

Pinions, we have had the spots too, and like CB has said they seem to appear and disappear quite quickly. I would echo the bathing in water only (the books seem to suggest this for the first 6 weeks of babies life).

CB, you sound so happy in your post - I am v pleased.

Maveta, hope all is going well with you flower.

MIAST, sorry that Robyn had an unsettled night. Hope the infacol continues to do the trick. With both B and K, we put a blanket under their heads whist in the moses basket, just so they weren't lying completely flat, and they both seem to like this.

We had an ok night, tho K did puke a bit, but not enough to concern me. She still hasn't had a poo (last one was the runny green one yesterday morning), but she seems fine.

I just need to remain calm!

OK, need to grab a shower, so will catch up later on.

Lots of love to everyone I haven't mentioned. I think about you all regularly. x

Pesha · 03/05/2007 09:50

Hi all

Havent caught up so have no idea whats happening with everyone, sorry Hope all is well with everyone and babies and bumps!

Dylan is feeding constantly and being very clingy. Dont think he's slept in his moses basket for more than 10 mins, its always on my lap or in my bed, usually with my nipple in his mouth! And when he does sleep somewhere else Im racing around trying to get everything done. At the mo he's asleep in the pushchair still and Im now feeling really guilty being here when i should be washing up and hoovering!. In the evenings im happy to sit feeding him for hours or just have him asleep on my lap but duringthe day Im finding it so frustrating that I cant do anything. And so is ds, he came in the other afternoon from playing in the garden and said 'mummy you've got no eggs left', he'd taken the box with 8 eggs still in it and chucked them outside then tried to clean it up with toilet roll! And he's being very cudlly and clingy which is lovely but hard work. But have to say im still feeling really good. The tiredness catches me when im feeding him but generally im just ignoring it, baby blues havent hit at all. Anyway really have to go and do things now, ds1 has spilt alpen all over the floor so have to hoover now. And I have a socking great big tooth absess (sp?) so need to ring dentist before its too late. Will try and come back and catch up with you all later so I can do a less self-obsessed post! And will check in on ante natal girls too, cant be many of them left now?

EllieKthePA · 03/05/2007 12:57

nursing dress what do we think?

eca · 03/05/2007 13:58

ooooo... ellie, that's lovely!

nuttygirl · 03/05/2007 14:06

So I sent my complaint letter the other day and put at the bottom that I wanted access to my records so I could check the info was accurate. Now I don't want a copy of them I just want to go in and see them...but they send me a form to fill in which may take them 6 weeks to process....6 weeks, what good is that...my complaint has to be responded to in 25 days. So I ring them up to explain and the woman says well it takes that long cos we have to get permission from the consultant to release the notes. So I say "but they're my notes and 6 weeks is no good to me". She tells me if I put a time limit on the form they'll do their best to meet it. Anyway have looked online and it seems that cos the birth was less than 40 days ago, they have to process my request within 21days...stupid fucks

I've also stopped taking my iron tablets cos I'm fed up of constipation and dihorrea (how is it possible to have both at once????). If I start to feel like crap I'll just buy some spatone...am fed up of everyone associated with the NHS at the mo...god help the HV who's due in 1 hr!!!

Katy44 · 03/05/2007 14:38

Hi everyone
How are you all? nutty, sorry to hear you're struggling getting your complaint sorted in time
T is feeding constantly and only sleeping briefly in between. We are exhausted! (BUt he's lovely enough to make up for it!). We've been to register his birth today, so he's all official
Sorry I haven't had a chance to catch up, will hopefully have a bit more time soon.

muminasaggytummy · 03/05/2007 14:59

Hi everyone..

Anyone got any experience of using Colief drops? HV has recommended them...for colic.

Ellie - dress is gorg and v reasonable £.
Best go...R awake..so much for manageing to grab a quick sarnie before she needed feeding!
x

liath · 03/05/2007 15:13

Ellie, lovely dress. Can't clearly see how it opens for feeding, though.

Have a wedding in July and am 2 dress sizes bigger than prepregnancy so buying a feeding dress might be the answer (or a diet ).

Glad you've caught up on some sleep MIAST, it's horrible feeling continually tired. DH and I are sleeping in shifts but it'll be much harder once he's back at work.

The last two nights ds has gone berserk, feeding continually from around 8pm to midnight and then sleeping for 6 hours!!!!. Not sure if he'll keep it up, seems early to be going that long at night. Gives the nips a break though and they are looking better. I've stopped letting him comfort suck at the end of feeds as I think his latch slips a bit and it traumatises them too much. He'd spend all day sucking given half a chance! Might introduce a dummy soon.

He's lying on my lap with the hiccups looking cute .

nuttygirl · 03/05/2007 16:09

sorry Ellie, meant to say that the dress looks lovely. I'd gone into a bit of a rant mode.

Well HV has been - she's a bit of a div tbh but she did go home to get her scales so Erin could be weighed. Good news is she's put on 3oz.

liath · 03/05/2007 16:36

BTW Nutty, I've got 2 boxes of ferrous fumarate left over from when i was anaemic at 36 weeks - it's a bit less constipating than normal iron so I'd be happy to post it off to you if you want.

Sounds like a load of unnecessary obstruction to getting your notes, on your behalf.

eca · 03/05/2007 16:57

hi loves

MIAST - glad to hear you're feeling a bit better. Hope that the infacol helps R. Poor little mite.

Pesha - ouch! to the absess - just what you need at the moment eh?? Hope you manage to get a dentist appointment.

Nutty at the whole flippin system!!! You really have to do your homework don't you? Does my head in when you feel you have to fight for every inch. Thank goodness for MN where you can get advice on stuff and support.

Liath - T did a 6hr sleep from 3am-9am! Was a bit worried. But he's awake at other times and feeding ok, so I'm presuming it's all ok . Did enjoy the lie-in though.

We went to see GP this morning and he was really unhelpful . Just kept saying they don't do it anymore and that he'd only consider it if it was causing problems!! Apparently me having painful cracked bleeding nipples isn't classed as a problem . And then he said he'd refer me to the local hospital - that he had just telephoned and the consultant said they don't do it unless the baby's not gaining weight (which T is) - to have him looked at there. So basically he refered me so they could tell me 'no' as well. I HATE it when doctors just fob you off.

Anyway, there is some hope. I mentioned that my bf counsellor friend had given me details for a consultant at another hospital (who's happy to do it) and the GP did say he would refer me to them as well. So, I am thinking we'll just go and see what they say.

eca · 03/05/2007 16:59

Sorry - meant to say went to see the GP about T's tongue tie...

liath · 03/05/2007 17:30

Eca, that sounds bonkers - my sister's ds got his snipped no questions because even though he was putting on weight it was causing problems BF. Hope you do get somewhere with it.

eca · 03/05/2007 17:57

It's made me really cross, there just seemed to be no support for bf. He didn't even suggest any ways to help me try and continue - i.e. using cream/ changing feeding position - if I were to follow his advice and not get it snipped. If i was someone who hadn't read up on it or helpfully got a friend who really knows about it I would just be left to struggle with sore nips and probably give up after a while. That or become housebound going round with my boobs out to try to get them to heal!!

liath · 03/05/2007 18:08

Hmm, maybe he should try sandpapering his nipples at regular intervals and see how he likes it. Sadly a lot of the medical profession are appallingly ignorant about BF.

octo · 03/05/2007 18:12

hello (((waves))) hungry boys here - can't stop to chat ... hope all are okay xxxx

eca · 03/05/2007 19:14

LOL liath! Maybe I could offer to do that next time I see him

Hi octo !

Pinions · 03/05/2007 19:31

Just wanted to add THIS:

As per my last posting.

Baby has DEFINITELY got oral thrush. It is extremely painful for him and all he seems to do is cry and cry and I had a feeling that sth just was not "right". He is really tired and irritable all the time and even when asleep is not really properly asleep.

Anyway, been to the doctors today and have been given a cream (daktarin) for his mouth, same cream for my nips and tablets for myself. they also get a really painful rash around the bottom which just looks like nappy rash. If it wasn't for mn, as i was reading through the posts last night i would never have guessed this and i have never bloody heard of oral thrush.

So signs to look out for:

-SORE NIPS (USUALLY JUST ONE) THAT DOESN'T HEAL
-PAINFUL WHEN FEEDING
-NAPPY RASH TYPE THING AROUND BABYS BOTTOM WHICH IS ALSO VERY PAINFUL FOR THEM
-WHITE COAT ON TONGUE WHICH IS THERE CONSTANTLY AND NOT JUST AFTER FEEDING(HAS BEEN THERE FOR OVER A WEEK AND I THOUGHT IT WAS MILK).
-GENERALLY VERY UNSETTLED

GOD I NEED A STILL DRINK!!!

Just wanted to post this and "share" so that it could be of help.

And they say BF is best - very bloody funny!

Pinions · 03/05/2007 19:32

Meant to say STIFF drink but maybe a still drink would be better???

Would be interested to hear if anyone has had the same x

Pinions · 03/05/2007 19:45

And is seem to be getting slightly more organised (prob cos theo is lot more settled suddenly).

Been to vote today, called to make appt to register birth, been to doctors, been shopping for all my "diet" food!, been to playgroup and written a complaint letter.........just need to write thank you cards now hate that job.

Pinions · 03/05/2007 19:48

Ok so i am talking to myself but trying to make the most of my ten mins.

Does anyone find it embarassing when total strangers come up to you in the middle of the supermarket and go aaaaaaaaaahhh how old is he, so cute etc etc.

Not embarassing but awkward. I felt like i was someone famous or sth the amount of people that come up!!!!!!

Thats it really going now and apologies for my 4 posts in a row........looking forward to hearing more news xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
