Right ladies this is going to be used as a tip's, questions and answers etc thread for those of us who have had our babies and can't keep up with the chat on the other thread. (my word those ladies can talk)

And of course everyone is welcome to post on here the more advice etc the better.

OP posts:

Hello! My first post on post natal! Been keeping up with you all but wouldn´t know where to start with replying to all that has happened!

We´re settling in really well with Noah, he´s so beautiful and we´re both head over heels for him. He seems to be a fairly content baby so far but he´s only 4 days old and we´ve had easy bits and hard bits so, average I guess

If anyone has a second and thinks they could help with my post here it would be great, am feeling a little lost...

Hope to catch up with you all more soon xxxx

mammyjo · 02/05/2007 16:20

Hi Maveta, hope the feeding is going ok. Did leave a little message but more to keep your question in the active conversations than to offer any pearls of wisdom.

Hope everyone else is ok, quiet here today.

Pinions · 02/05/2007 16:41

Hi all.

Have been saying this for the past 7 days now! that I will catch up and STILL have not had time.

Is anyone finding it really hard to get organised. All i seem to concentrate on is feeding the baby, changing the baby and seeing to ds1 literally.

I have got a list of jobs as long as my arm and EVERY DAY they get put off until another day we haven't even got around to registering birth yet FGS!!!

Would be interested how any of you guys are getting organised or whether its just me trying to run before I can walk (again).

now going to scroll down to TRY and catch up but then again it IS tea time and both ds1 and ds2 are hungry or well theres always tomorrow xxx

Sexonknackeredlegs · 02/05/2007 16:41

Hiya ladies

GMM, sounds like your mucus plug - what a lovely name for it!

Have a slight concern about Katies bowels, and am going to post on the health thread as well.

K hadn't had a poo for 24 hours, and then today she had a rather runny green poo, which has really freaked me out.

Has anyone else experienced this? She is bottlefed, and I am wondering if it is down to overfeeding.

Hope everyone is ok. x

AngeG · 02/05/2007 17:03

Hello Ladies

SOKL - Sorry no advice but wanted to let you know I was thinking of you. Hope your feeling a bit better.

Maveta - I have read you thread but admit to being a little scared to post outside our thred. I agree with the advice given though. Don't use nipple shields unless you have to it is possible they must interfere with supply. If baby is taking only one breast at a time start on the opposite one next time if you can otherwise one breast could be over stimulated while the other undestimulated. If Noah can't latch on because of engorgement a warm flannel or sitting in a warm bath or a little expressing should help soften them up enough to allow it. This is what I did with Izzy.

Nuttygirl - Glad HV has finally been in touch.

Mammyjo - Hello. Sorry that you feel your milk is dwindling. I do feel the same some days, but then find I have more the next day, maybe this is the same with you?

Hi Emmymummy - Sending Labour vibes to you. Thanks for the link about lying down to breastfeed, it was very interesting.

GMM - Sounds like things are moving for you!!

LesleyR - Glad George is now home. So glad he is on the mend. It must have been terribly scary for you.

MIAST - Hi there how are you? Glad to hear you're feeling brighter after a better night with Robyn. How is your wound now?

Pinions - Know how you feel. I always feel bad when I come on here, because I just can't seem to keep up with things. We've only just been to register Isobelle's birth today and she's 4 weeks old today

Sorry to anyone I've missed. Sorry I'm so rubbish at keeping up. I do think about you all loads though.

Lots of Love xxxx

eca · 02/05/2007 17:29

hi busy ladies and babies (not to mention other dc!!!)

hope you're all doing well today. T is having a serious feeding frenzy since last night. He's feeding about every 1-2hrs. Thankfully my huge boobs seem to have plenty of milk, so that's ok! On the downside i went to town today and tried to get a new top that would fit me and NOTHING goes over them. I just ended up looking like humpty dumpty!

LesleyR - good to hear G is out of hospital. Of course you'll feel a bit nervey, hope thing are settling today for you.

liath - nice to hear you're enjoying ds. T is being an angel too, just waiting for the screaming to start. Or maybe he save that for when dh goes back to work and i'm on my own with him !

SOKL - hope you're feeling better today after last night. As a 1st timer I'm so in awe of you and the other mums on here who are doing all the baby stuff with other dc in tow.

Birdiemum - thanks for that. People seem to be saying that it's best to get it done, the earlier the better, so we are going to pursue it. Hopefully the gp will refer us without a fuss.

Eddas · 02/05/2007 17:36

SOKL, ds's poo was a little green, mentioned it to mw and she said it may be down to overfeeding. She didn't seem bothered that it was green, I was though don't remember dd ever having it He's only had it once or twice.

Pinions, I too don't feel that organised, although strangely more organised than when i'd just had dd. I have registered Harry but mainly so that I get my child benefit and tax credits asap I'm a tight ass!!Need the money.

Right off to read the rest, if i don't post something whilst i'm thinking about it, it totally leaves my head

SOKL - Just checked in my "What To Expect The First YEar " Book.

It says

"The Scoop On Newborn Poop"

Green - or light yellow - A virus such as a cold or stomach bug.

Frequent, watery, greener than usual - Diarrhoea.

Hope that helps a bit....

Is she ok other than that?? I would doubt it's overfeeding hun...would she not just sick up any excess??
Hugs

Hi ALL
Just a quick post.So glad George is home hope all goes well. How on earth 1b3 qnde oogs cope with twins i don't know...heaps of respect!
Milo has grumbled, snorted and moaned the last 2 nights and i feel like a zombie. We have a wrestling match at feeding time as he spends a few minutes 'growling' and sucking on the muslin square while i try and get the bottle into his mouththen he has a tentative taste before he tucks in[maybe he is going to be a wine tatster when he grows up].
I am still sore.Went out with a friend today and bought a few items of clothing..hard to find things that fit.I smashed a plate in o'Briens sandwich bar..felt like i was at school when people used to cheer...except they didn't..just stared!
Milo nsnorting in cot and listening to a jazz cd of dp's.
When we got Milo's birth registered we put in our form to be married as you have to wait 3 months. We have set a date for 1st August..very excited.
Hope you are all okxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Whendoobygotstuckupthechimney · 02/05/2007 19:05

MIAST...I bought that book today...love it already!I also bought Digging to America about 2 families who adopt. Not sure when i will get to read it tho

EllieKthePA · 02/05/2007 19:29

SOSPL - your email doesn't seem to be working, sent one to you rather than andrej and it's come back as being too old!

muminasaggytummy · 02/05/2007 19:29

Hi everyone!!

Lucewheel - you take care hun, I cannot imagine how stressful and impending move must be on top of having just recently given birth. I really feel for you. Hope you get a bit of sleep to help you recover from the exhaustion of your parents. I just find that everything seems so much easier if you can just get some kip!

Pinions and Eddas - it is so hard to be organised right now. I am very lucky as my Mum is a tremendous help, she has been doing all my ironing and I also have a very supportive husband who is doing the majority of household stuff like, cooking, washing up and food shopping. I don't know how I would cope otherwise. Some days are better than others, like today I have managed to cook tea and make Phil's packed lunch but others..I just get nothing done. As for registering the birth - I have only done that because you could do it at the hospital (which I thought was an excelent idea).

AngeG - Hi lovey - I am feeling alot brighter today - things are slowly feeling more normal and the antibiotics seems to be helping my sinuses already. My wound is very itchy and I am hoping that this means it is healing...?! How is yours doing...I also think I got my water infection from being catheterised during my section .

mammyjo - hugs to you...that was how I felt last week... I have to say I've not looked back since switching to Formula - but everyone is different of course.x

Maveta - great to see you on here! Sorry you are having a spot of bother with feeding...I checked my "bible" and it suggests you put a warm fannel on your boobs to encourage the milk to flow more. Also suggests making sure you feed frequently until the engorgement lessens even if it means waking Noah up..it suggests not pumping too much as it will just increase your milk supply and make the engorgement worse int he long run as you will be producing more than Noah can take. It also suggests altering the feeding position from feed to feed to make sure all the milk ducts are being emptied.
Hope that helps a bit hunx

Had a lovely hour with Robyn this afternoon where she was actually alert and awake. I can honestly say this is the first time she has been alert like this since she has been born. I just enjoyed cooing at her and singing to her - it was really precious (bit wierd that my boobs leaked like mad whilst I was talking to her...!!) Of course she is fast asleep again now and her nose does seem a bit better although poor James is worse - his nose is red raw from constant wiping. I have covered it in Vaseline but it's so sore as Nursery have not applied any this afternoon...which I am quite cross about as I specifically asked them to do it when I dropped him off...

Right tea is in the oven...and shock horror I cooked it....Phil seemed delighted when he got in that he didn't have to start preparing tea!
Love to all I've not personally mentioned - sorry it's so long!
xxxxx

Sexonknackeredlegs · 02/05/2007 19:33

Hiya ladies, thanks for your views/advice. I spoke to my mw earlier and she doesn't seem overly concerned, but to report back if she has it again.

MIAST, thanks for the note from the book. We borrowed that book from my sil with Becky and really need to get a copy of it again for this time round, as cannot remember much!

She hasn't had a poo since "the" poo at about midday, and has had 2 bottles since then. She seems pretty unsettled again tho.

I feel so effing stressed out. I hate this newborn stage tbh - I feel so out of control.

Have to go, as need to get dinner together tho am totally not hungry.

Sorry for the self indulgent rant. Hope everyone else is ok.
x

maveta · 02/05/2007 20:19

Sorry guys, just dashing in.. x-posting from AN thread

Everything is going really well so far.. don´t know what I will do without dh when he goes back to work. Luckily it´s not for another 10 days but still.. I can see how much harder it will all be when I´m on my own all day and how nice it is to have someone to share the stress with when he just won´t stop crying. TBH we can´t complain, he doesn´t cry overly much, wind is the biggest culprit at the moment and we really feel like novices but we´re working it out little by little. And as hard as it sometimes is, it´s double or triple that in beautiful and wonderful so it´s all good. Can you tell the baby blues haven´t kicked in yet?? LOL. Am only on day 4 so give me time, they´ll come...

Breastfeeding is going okay, my milk came in last night so my boobs have been really sore today and my poor old nips will never ever be the same. Is there anything we do for them that DOESN´T involve pain??!

I´m sorry this is so me me me, I have not had a second to read anything but I hope you are all doing well, will try and catch up soon.. xxx

WaspElly · 02/05/2007 20:37

Hi all,
just checking in randomly.
How can the day just disappear? I guess taking a 2 hour nap with the kids takes a big chunk of the afternoon out though... makes up for BFing every 2 hours and then DS getting up anywhere between 5 and 7... DS woke up (2nd time) at 7 and so i got DH a cuppa at 8 and took it to him in DS's single bed - DH'd slept right through young Mr Wiggly climbing over him and shouting for me from his door.
Life here's not so bad actually although I've not yet registered Tamsin - trying desperately to find our marriage cert. so that I can re-register DS at same time with us showing as married - may just give up on that as we need to get both the kids their passports in the next week-ish so that DH's parents can cart us all off to a Gite this summer (like I was going to pass up on that one!)

Top tip for BFing hallucinating moments: you know like one of those moments you wake in terror thinking you've gone to sleep whilst breastfeeding baby in the bed and now can't find it: put baby down in her cot/bed facing in the direction you held her for her last feed - means that you know which boob she should be on next!

SOKL - know what you mean about green baby poo, not particularly worried - but we've had a few pesto-like ones here too - but the whole family's battling with a cold! Lack of frequency of poo shouldn't worry you as long as baby's still doing wee's.

Hugs for any & all that have struggled with current littlest ones, or their sibs.

muminasaggytummy · 02/05/2007 20:39

Maveta - don't be so daft....we want to hear about you and I think everyone understands it is difficult to keep up especially when it is your first and you are just back home.

SOKL - Hugs chick....sorry you are feeling stressed out...would definatley recommend the book as it is giving me great peace of mind. I too am a bit of a stress head but it is good to have it to refer to and give a bit of reassurance.

R is due to wake up any minute for a feed....why do the little monkeys sleep so much longer in the blinking day..... she would wake dead on 3 hrs after her last feed int he night but she can go up to 5 hrs in the day :-(

and right on cue she's stirring.

Hope you all have a good night
xxxx

maveta · 02/05/2007 21:24

Had a really quick skim.. thanks for the advice re. bf-ing.. this pm´s feeds have gone okay, tried out a few of the tips.. used a cool flannel to calm them down and then hand expressed a wee bit just to take the pressure off enough for him to latch on. He managed to feed fine, it´s just so hard to know what to do.. it seems like there is so much advice out there but almost too much to process, especially when it´s all so new and confusing and the baby is crying and i need to know NOW! lol. Kellymom looks like a good site but not exactly quick reference in a hysterical baby moment! Might check out that what to expect book too..

Thanks guys and thanks MIAST - you are so sweet x

Pinions - well we´ve only been home 2 days but I can already see how hard it´s going to be to get stuff done. We´ve got to try and be on top of things though and get as much done as poss before dh goes back to work. Got to take Noah to Dr. for his heel test tomorrow and if we manage to run a couple of small errands at the same time I´ll call it a success! lol

My eyes are closing, got to go.. take care all of you x

oooggs · 02/05/2007 21:46

lovely name dippy

welcome home Lesley & George

Hey dooby - who said I/we were coping with twins

dt's weighed today - Erin 9lb 1 oz and Jack 10lb 13oz and they are 5 weeks tomorrow

Pinions · 02/05/2007 22:32

OK so had a chance to catch up.

What I mainly want to say is

LESLEY - so glad to hear George is ok now and that you are back home.

1b3 - glad that dd is better.

GREAT to hear from the new mummies. Maveta hope you are finding feeding a little easier.Congrats again to Dippy and looking forward to news. Octo lol at full fat diet, although I am sure you are right and thats whats needed did MW really say mars bar in the middle of the night??

For those with breathing difficulties try the method that I suggested earlier in the thread. Also try the saline drops to clear nasal passage. For older kiddies forget Vaseline you need to buy what is called "Happynose" (Boots) this is brilliant for sore red noses and smells lovely.

RE BF - I notive that when I drink a lot more water/squash I seem to produce LOADS of milk and the days that I "forget" is when I don't seem to produce enough. Nipples are killing but hey thats life no smooth without the rough.

Baby is REALLY unsettled at the moment which is exactly how I remember ds1 so not too much of a shock really. I am sure it is colic, so am giving infacol but a lot of you seem to be mentioning osteopath TBH its not something I've even heard of wo am definitely in the dark about that one but shall look into it cos the thought of another 4 or 5 months like this is not a good thought. He is never settled not before a feed, not after a feed, not after a sleep etc etc etc but like i say this is what i expected really. I don't like to give too much infacol as it doesn't seem right somehow althouhg i know it says that it is harmless. He just looks really like he is constantly in pain and its really hard work.

ALSO he ie covered in "zits" has anyone else got this. I have been told that they are milk spots but what the hell are milk spots and what can you do to get rid of them???

So me main problems are "SPOTS" and "WIND/COLIC".

ANY SUGGESTIONS LADIES PLEASE!!!!!!!

Pinions · 02/05/2007 22:35

[And still feel very disorganised emoticon].

Pinions · 02/05/2007 22:36

PLUS does anyone know about the amount of calories you are supposed to have when BF.

If I am cutting down, I take it thats ok as long as I am eating all the correct foods/drinks etc etc???

eca · 02/05/2007 22:58

hi pinions

I'm drinking LOADS of lemon squash. One night I drunk 7 pints, yes 7 PINTS in 2 HOURS . After what you said I'm wondering if that's aprtly why I've got so much milk.

Re: spots - T looks like a zitty teen I was a bit worried, but HV today said that a lot of babies get them. She said not to use any baby bath etc ( i wasn't anyway) and to bathe with cool boiled water.

Pinions · 02/05/2007 23:12

Hi eca - laughed when I read your 7 pints!!!

They don't tell you something as simple as this do they when talking about BF!!! I am convinced it makes ALL the difference too!

Anyway I have started this thread on the BF (feeling brave) and thought would post here just in case it might help anyone else???

Have put 2 and 2 together and have come to the conclusion that baby suffering from thrush, which could be why he's so unsettled. Am pretty sure he has got colic too. Will need to plan to visit doctors tomorrow....

When I read it back it just sounds so obvious but TBH its not something I have ever heard of before and only when reading this thread have really come across it.

Is this thrush?
