Nice to have you back EAH / Wilkie / UD. Fancy having a night off. Can't believe you chose the evening when DH was out and I was bored!!

to dentist. Hope went well Wilkie / Carrotcake. Did you get there on time CC? I last went whilst pregnant and dentist said I prob need a filling but he'll not do it whilst pregnant. It'll be my first ever filling so I don't want to go back...

LadyTophamHatt · 23/03/2007 10:54

I ddi have a 6 weeks check but it wasn't the same as the ones I#d had with the older Ds's.

GP just had a feel of my flabby belly and asked how I was feeling.

No smear test this time.....

Muckypup · 23/03/2007 12:39

Afternoon ladies - where is everyone today?

DS has still got his cold. The health visitor at the baby clinic recommended baby olbas oil which is stinking the place out.

I just read that they are going to change government advice to no drinking at all whilst pregnant and putting warning labels on alcoholic drinks. I think that's a bit harsh as most mums to be want to drink a glass or two during the nine months and we'll just feel really guilty if we do.

carrotcake · 23/03/2007 13:09

Can you get baby olbas oil, Muckypup, I didn't know that? I've been using tiny bits of normal, doesn't seem to be helping to be honest.

It is harsh about the health warning, I guess they're thinking that it might stop the few cases of feotal alcohol syndrome that can be caused by just one or two drinks in a tiny number of feotus, that's what it said on the programme anyway. Worrying for everyone else who it would be perfectly safe to have the odd glass of wine. Would it stop those who binge drink? I don't know, the warnings on cigarette packets don't seem to have any effect do they, people just don't read them..

I have to go back to the dentist this afternoon, it's infected apparently. There wasn't an appointment to do the filling for two weeks and he said I'd have to have antibiotics but I asked the receptionist VERY nicely (alright, begged) if they could see me sooner. Really don't want to take them if I don't have to, after LO'S upset tummy with the other stuff, suddenly there was a space this afternoon

Had ds1 with me, a duvet day , he's tired and needed new shoes etc and a haircut. Lo woke up in the barbers absolutely starving so I had to feed him, probably my most uncomfortable public feed so far in a small room full of men! Well, I wasn't going to sit in the toilet but he did seem to slurp exceptionally loudly

Oh, I'm dreading the tooth thing, I hate needles, and he has to drill out the old filling.

Lizzzombie · 23/03/2007 13:31

I went to the clinic yesterday to get LO weighted (11lbs11oz @ 9 weeks!) but HV asked me..."so, are you ok, not feeling down or anything are you?" ...actually, I'm not, but if I was. Imagine..."well, yes, actually I am" couldnt believe she just came out and said it like that. Not that I am expecting to be cotton wool wrapped but still!
Also, I asked her about local mother and baby groups as I've got major cabin fever. Execpt it came out wrong. I apologise in advance for any offence caused.
HV: was there anything else?
Me: yes, I am really bored, is there any mother and baby groups locally?
HV: yes lots.
Me: All I can find is ones for ethnic minorities, lesbians or men. I dont mind faking it but are there any normal ones?
HV: Um, er, yes...have a leaflet.
I am so politically correct x

ellieandhattie · 23/03/2007 15:25

helloooooo
lizz loved your chat with hv

ccake hope tooth better now

wilkie me thinks i may have purchased same bag as you from primark is it brown and got buckle things? thought it would be good for when ellie at preschool and i'm nipping in and out with hattie as plenty of room for nappy, wipes etc

I LOVE my hardresser my hair looks fab and e gave me a free conditioning treatment so really nice and shiny and the cut is exactly how I wanted it. Plus my straightners are knackered and I was moaning I couldnt really afford new ones and he gave me a promotional voucher to get £20 off any product in the salon shop so got some vidal sassoon ones that were on offer from £60 to £40 and I got them for £20 but ended up giving him £5 tip and filled out a customer experience form saying what a fab hairdresser he is so I wil continue to have lovely hair. Ellie has just asked me to do hers so I have sat and straightned her curly mop didnt realise how long it was but it looks so much cuter curly

Shimmer · 23/03/2007 15:25

Hi all. Another reasonably good night with F last night. Dream feed at 10:30 and didn't have to do the next one til 6am! Now if he could just stop waking up around 4/5am and could sleep til about 7.30 that would be perfect! I do have high expectations for the little man

Sypathies to carrotcake & wilkie. Hope the dentist wasn't too horrible. I absolutely HATE dentists. I'm really not a wimp about most things (hey, I gave birth with no pain relief!) but for some reason i have a complete fear of dentists. I haven't been for about 4 years now Last time i went the poor guy tried to take some x-rays and i threw up all over him!! hehe!

Lizz the mother and baby groups round here are all for the minorites as well. I know it's not very PC and all but i often feel like i'm the only white person living in this area of london! I had a letter round the other day about some new drop-in groups at our childrens centre - we now have mornings for Bangladeshi and Somali mothers twice a week. Great.

2Happy · 23/03/2007 15:44

Ugh! Dentists! Why are they so fearsome?! My wisdom tooth is hurting again, but there's no way I'm going!!
That sounds like a great night, Shimmer, well done lo!
I'm going to the mother and baby group next week, didn't bother with ds1, but sort of feel the need for more structure to my days with 2 of them. No minority mum and baby groups here, but it's so rural that I have to travel about 40mins to get to the nearest group!
We got the skip delivered today, so will be spending the weekend filling it - I dread to think how mny messages there'll be on this thread by the time I finish!

ellieandhattie · 23/03/2007 15:50

oh my god a new mnetter has 8 children including 2 sets of twins hers must have been good sleepers

i am in awe of this woman

Hattie2 · 23/03/2007 15:54

Hope the dentist vists went well, don't envy you one bit. I've got to go back and see the hygeinist (sp?) next week and that's bad enough as far as I'm concerned. Should have gone whilst pg really as it was free then but never got round to it - we do have to pay now don't we?

Good luck with the mother and baby groups Lizzz - let us know if you have a sex change or become a lesbian to get into one you like

Took ds for his first jabs today, got there on time but expected to wait at least 20 mins as they are always late. As expected was told nurse was running approx (haha) 15 mins late so fed ds in the waiting room. He seems to be on one poo a day at the moment (usually after mid morning feed) and so it's always a big one. Finished feeding him and was just winding him over my shoulder when he did a big fart and I felt his nappy filling up (nice!). Started to get bag etc together to go and change him and he starts grunting again and another really loud fart followed by more nappy filling. Got to change room and undressed him to find poo everywhere - up the back of the nappy, up the front of the nappy and out both sides and literally everything he was wearing (except socks) was covered in poo. Being the organised person I am had one spare nappy, no spare clothes and just one wipe left . Managed to clean him up as best I could and had to take him back out into waiting room in a nappy, poo-stained top and socks!! Now I know why some people carry big change bags round with them .......

Hattie2 · 23/03/2007 15:56

OMG 8 children!! How does she have time for MN???

ellieandhattie · 23/03/2007 15:56

hattie your exemption card is valid for a year after baby due/born (cant remember which date it is) it will say on your nhs exemption card

Hattie2 · 23/03/2007 15:58

oh excellent, thanks eah - I knew that was for prescriptions but didn't realise it was for dentist as well - duh!

carrotcake · 23/03/2007 17:24

Mmm, it is a year from birth, I paid today though as I wanted a white filling, my mouth is full of mercury, it was 65 pounds and, sigh, I have to go back next week for another one as it's leaking. Uurrgg, thinking about that drill noise makes me feel sick, not the first one that digs out old filling but the really loud one that digs out the cavity!! I'm having soup for tea, with a straw, even though I'm cooking shepherds pie for the others...

Just looked at that thread EAH, wow , imagine the cereal, and the socks, and the noise! Hats off to her.

Lizzzombie · 23/03/2007 17:48

Shimmer - this is totally un-pc to write but I can't help it...
why dont you turn up at one of the Somali/Bangladeshi, and join in. They can hardly turn you away can they. It may be fun talking to people from different backgrounds. I dare you to go. If you do I will go to one of the 'different' ones down here in Brighton! If they do try and turn you away you can always quote Ali-G "is it coz I am white?!"

Lizzzombie · 23/03/2007 17:49

I never just wrote that.
I was possessed by the ghost of jade goody.
please forgive me.
I am feeling evil.

ellieandhattie · 23/03/2007 17:53

lizz

Lizzzombie · 23/03/2007 17:56

E&H Very at you having glam hair. Its always makes you feel like a million dollars doesnt it.
I just spent £5 on loads of jewellery in the Dorothy Perkins sale (its 75% off) and went a bit mad! Nothing like a bit of bling to make me smile! x

ellieandhattie · 23/03/2007 17:57

oooo can i borrow your bling then with my new shoes(bought them today since i was child free they are beautiful) and hair i'd feel fab

wilkie · 23/03/2007 18:28

Lizz!! ROFL

wilkie · 23/03/2007 18:31

Hmmm, my dentist appointment was a bit odd. He was foreign, not sure where from maybe eastern european, and just looked at my teeth with a little mirror and said everything was fine.

Is this normal? I have only ever had one other dentist and he used to count my teeth, prod them with a metal thing at the same time as looking at them with a mirror.

Bit confused.

Dragonhart · 23/03/2007 19:38

Thats all mine does WIlkie. She is a Swedish Dentist and always asks me about my son while I have a mouth full if cotton wool.

Dont think there are any minority mother and baby groups around here. Just Church ones. I go to one that is in a church across the road from me so nice and handy!

How much sleep are everyones los getting in 24hours? I was on a thread last night and I actually counted how many hours Ruth sleeps and it is 16-17hours a day. Suddenly realised that she doesnt sleep much in the day. She does sleep from 7am-930/10am though after her first feed. Then just cap naps in the afternoon. Just wondered what everone else is doing.

ellieandhattie · 23/03/2007 19:57

Hattie is a right little kipper - gets ups round 6am and stays awake till 8.30 then sleeps till 10 has a bottle and stays awake for an hour tops then sleeps 11-1.30 bottle at 2 and then catnaps till around 6pm then bath, bottle and bed and just starting to sleep 7pm to 6am but onlt done that 2 nights this week and 2 nights shes woken but not had a feed. So shes possibly wake 8 hours a day inbetween catnaps.

Can't remember when Ellie went into having 'proper'naps I remember by the time I went back to work at 5.5months she got up around 6 (why do I have kids that get up at stupid times?) then back for a nap 8am-9.30/10am and then afternoon nap around 12-1.30 but would probably only have an hour she always liked her long nap in the morning.

Dh gone out for works do tonight but [sock] he has driven (he never drives to 'dos') and reckons he'll be home around 10 which coul be right for a change as he starts work at 5am but after tomorrow he is off for a week (yippee help with the kids but won't be able to come on here so much)

I am currently investigating a very weird/horrible smell coming from my kitchen thought maybe pipe leaking under sink but not that side of kitchen, i think something is festering under the freezer but is making th ewhole house stink. Can't move the fridge freezer to have a look so will have to get dh/my dad to move it.

hiya all! well, my chubby boy now weighs in at 13lbs and half an oz! what a fat little man! the clinic was good - was the first time i'd been to this one, and i eschewed the Baby Cafe in favour of it, but i think next week i'll go to the Baby Cafe as the people there are more "my type".

on the sleep front, Zac sleeps from about 8pm to 3am then has a feed, then from about half 3 to half 6, then about 8:30-10 ish, then like Ruth cat naps in the afternoon. he sleeps a lot heavier if we go out in the pram though...

sympathies to the dentist go-ers. hope you're all enjoying your soup through straws and feeling sorry for yourselves!!
