Hi All - hopefully this will be less contraversial (sp!)

BENDYB · 19/03/2007 21:02

hi youngmum, yeah im really worried, just hopin he is gonna be ok, just been lookin after my nephew & niece & my nephew said "if daddy is still in hospital at easter i hope the doctors give him some easter eggs! " bless him, it nearly made me cry!

well done with the weight loss, i'm nearly back 2 what i was before but still wanna lose more though!

Rumpel · 20/03/2007 09:59

Bendy - scary stuff for you all. How old is your DB? Do they know if it was something he was born with or as a result of an injury? If it makes you feel any better someone I know had one years ago and has made a full recovery. What I would suggest is that you get him to take a cod liver oil or flaxseed oil supplement when he can, as this will help the nervous system and brain to heal a bit better. Rhodiola herb is also very good for helping recovery long term - as he will probably suffer from tiredness for a good while afterwards. The body is amazing though and has remarkable powers of self-healing. Let us know how he is doing.

Swizz - A is non-rolling and non-crawling too. She is not even very keen on being on her tummy (must take after me) She just cranes her head up and wants a chat

Pmoore - that is fantastic! Well done you. Wish I had lost that amount. I'll just need to try harder.

Uni again tomorrow so LO is off to IL's again. Miss her but has to be done.

Gingeme - your Scot's boys got snow? It's been beautiful and sunny here yesterday and today (was supposed to be gales and snow?) but stuck in studying

pmoore · 20/03/2007 10:54

I have a non-rolling, non-sitting Samantha!! She does have lots of chat though and has found her tongue poking out is great fun!

Gingeme · 20/03/2007 11:41

Morning ladies. Not as far as I know Rumple though they usually ring Tuesday evening and I will ask them and let you know
Lo keeps smacking his lips and running his tongue over his new tooth. Still dribbling for England though. Wonder if another ones on its way
He slept through again last night. From 8-7 just ashame I got woken up at 6 by a door banging somewhere in the wind.
Not doing much today staying in out of the terrible cold wind.
Well keep warm all. xxxx
Oh yeah just a quick ask how do you get a profile on here? You know the little book type looking thingy.

Bubblemummy · 20/03/2007 12:01

Thanks for the welcome Yes, Sebastian is my first so I have no idea what I'm doing! I have lived in the UK before, my DH is English and we met here.

Seb doesn't really roll yet, either. He has only done it once. He hasnt even come close to crawling yet, but I'm sure he'll get there.

I wish I was doing so well with the weight loss, I'm still about 5kg over pre-preg weight (not sure what in pounds...) Don't know if bf has helped much, I'm hungry all the time!

Sorry to hear your DB is ill bendyb.

I'm looking for a high chair at the moment, does anyone have a good one they would recommend?

BENDYB · 20/03/2007 12:12

thanks rumpel, he is 31, they are not sure what caused it, he has had 3 brain scans but dont know anything yet.
They have put him into a coma now, last night, they have said its to give his brain & body a better chance to recover because he was really confused & doesn't understand why he is in hospital so he kept getting out of bed & pulling his wires out & stuff, i'm even more worried now, i just dont understand it really! Was gonna go & see him tonight but not going to now, dont wanna see him like that.

kai has got his 1st proper cold, cant stop sneezing & he is all snotty, what are you allowed to give babies for a cold? Given him calpol, not sure what else to give him???

BENDYB · 20/03/2007 12:15

gingeme- u go onto 'my mumsnet' to do a profile, i cant work out how to put pics on though! U have to re-size them i think! Maybe some1 else knows. x

Gingeme · 20/03/2007 12:26

Oh bendyb so sorry about your brother. Realy hope hes better soon. Hes in the right place though.
I find Medised is very good when little ones are poorly. It has an anti histamine in it which dries up snotty noses. Helps them to sleep too
Bubblemummy dont worry about the weight loss Im now realy am not bothering anymore. Just watching my fat intake cause I have a fatty liver so my gp tells me. Trouble is its usualy associated wiith alcaholics,I dont drink, and pregnant ladies
Maybe its left over from mt pregnancy. Who knows? Thanks for the profile tip Ill have a go later.

Rumpel · 20/03/2007 13:49

Bendy - don't worry. Being confused is all part of the symptoms of a brain injury. They have put him into a 'coma' so that his brain can concentrate on healing itself and doesn't have to worry about thinking, seeing, making sense of things and moving the body in general. It looks and sounds a lot worse than it is. You should go snd see him if you feel up to it as it might help his recovery - people can often hear and are subconciously aware of you being there, even if they are in a coma. Have they operated on him at all? If not he should just look like he's asleep, with a few wires attached and beeping machines. Hope this helps to make you feel a wee bitty better.X

Gingeme - you should think about taking milk thistle supplements - they help to cleanse the liver and give it a boost. You can develop a fatty liver from medication/drugs or a very poor diet.

Gave LO mashed potato with cardamom and mixed with f milk at lunch - she didn't look too impressed!

Gingeme · 20/03/2007 14:27

Right Rumple. Where would I get this from? Ive heard of this before as a friend of mine went to a woman once erm who gave her plant extracts to spray on her tongue?!
I like to think my diet is ok. I dont eat crisps or biscuits. Not many chips either I think chips are boring actualy. Love fruit could eat it allday. I dont take medicine or drugs either. Maybe the odd paracetamol if I have a headache. Hopefuly it will settle soon. Got to go for another blood test soon.

BENDYB · 20/03/2007 17:44

thanks rumpel, feel a bit better, its just the word "coma" i think, makes it seem so scary!
my mum has been to see him, yeah she said he just looks asleep, i will maybe go another day this wk, i know it'll really upset me though.
they have put a camera into one of his arteries(sp?) going up to his brain, its called something begining with "a" cant remember what though! & they have also gotta drain some fluid from his brain.

Swizzler · 20/03/2007 18:29

{{{hug}}} Bendy. As Rumpel said, your brother may be able to hear you so worth going along and having a chat . Do go with your DP/a relative/friend so you've got someone to talk to afterwards. I hate going to hospitals myself.

Sitting here by a napping DS - not sure whether to wake him for his bath or let him sleep! Inclined to do the latter.

Day 4 of solids he's starting to get the idea now and not pull faces and spit the stuff out. I'm tryuing him on jars to start with so I can figure out what he likes and will then try making my own. No improvement on the sleep though (yawn).

We've had a few snow flurries here but nothing settling.

Rumpel · 20/03/2007 20:43

Gingeme - maybe it is hereditary with you then? You'll get milk thistle from Holland and Barrat or I shop a lot on www.worldwideshoppingmall.co.uk

I prefer tinctures (liquid) form to tablets as you can add them to juice and they enter the blood stream quicker.

Bendy - an angiogram? Just to see what is going on in his head and find the aneurysm I assume - they might need to operate to tie it off. These guys are AMAZING at what they do though - he'll be in fantastic hands. Sending him healing vibes.xx

Swizz et al - I started Amber off with pears then heinz organic rice, then heinz organic porridge, heinz organic stawberry and raspberry cereal (they had them on special in Tescos) she loves them! Wasn't so keen on the milky mashed potatoes today though. Pureed parsnips are good too. I grated a bit of nutmeg in and she liked that.

We have moved on to solids poos this week - this mornings one was RANK

poor wee soul is cross cutting her teeth and they are really bothering her, she keeps shoving her hand into her mouth and grappling with the left one. Bought her some teething ring things but she hasn't got the hang of it yet.

OP posts:
Gingeme · 20/03/2007 21:16

Rumple my scottish boys rang this evening. Yes they have had snow but it hasnt settled.
Has anyone tried bickie pegs for teething? Ive heard they are realy good as no little bits come off while lo is chewing on them. Think Id be a bit scared in case he stuck it down his throat though.
Yes the solids poohs are yummy arent they?
I actualy asked ds3 if hed poohed his pants this afternoon lo's was so stinky!!! Ooops

pmoore · 20/03/2007 21:29

I've tried Bickie pegs they have a ribbon supplied so that you can attach to LO's clothes, I never worked that bit out, if you saw the size of it. They are good but they can get shoved a bit too far down the throat! LO much prefers her fist!

I made a big batch of food today for LO its all in the freezer waiting. I made lots of swede, carrot and potato as thats her favourite. Any eperienced people how do you know how much to feed them, just feed until they refuse? Do I give dessert as well?

Can't believe LO is 6 months in a few weeks. Time is flying.

Hope everyone is having a relaxing evening.

youngmum21 · 21/03/2007 09:28

Bendy- i dont know wot to say really just try stay strong for your brother and do try and go see him it ill do him the world of good to hear familier voices!!!

Taffy- i will try to do akitten montage if they eva arrive lol, the cat in my montage is not the one that pregnant though ive got another one

BENDYB · 21/03/2007 11:12

yeah rumpel thats what it was, they put a clip on his brain. they woke him up again last night. they said he is doin well, he's been talking to the doctors & doesn't seem so confused now. hopefully gonna go & see him this wk sometime, its hard though coz the hospital he's in is about an hour & half drive from us & i dont drive so have gotta wait till my sister or sister in law can take me, & they dont want him having too many visitors, my mums been goin nearly every day & his wife & his dad every day.

hope everyone else ok,

ur cat still not had her kittens then youngmum?!

marthahm · 21/03/2007 13:26

hi all, can't remember last time posted. went for a job interview at work and got the job-1 day a week on mondays starting after easter. (maybe i already mentioned it?)
bendyb i'm really sorry about your brother. it must have been a huge shock. one of our best mates had a stroke at the same age last year. the first bit was really rocky. sounds like your bro is doing much better than dom was. dom was unable to speak or open his eyes for several weeks. he pulled through and is making progress slowly. the tiredness and depression at the slow progress have been the most tricky. he still has his sense of humour and has been swearing really well since he got the first word out!
all the montages were lovely.

youngmum21 · 21/03/2007 13:42

Bendy- no she still hasnt had them lol!!!

mathahm- well done on getting the job

Swizzler · 21/03/2007 13:44

Well done Marthahm . I'm back at work after Easter as well - 3 days a week. Partly looking forward to it, partly worried about leaving DS and coping on no sleep (won't bore you with the details but last night was dreadful).

Swizzler · 21/03/2007 13:45

Bendyb: great news about your brother. Hope he continues to improve and you get to see him soon

youngmum21 · 21/03/2007 13:49

Oooopps must dash got to go pick dd up from childminders just had a nice three hours to my self it was nice but am missing her like crazy xx

Soz bendy meant to on my othwer post great news about your brother xx

taffy101 · 21/03/2007 14:15

omg bendy what a crisis for you and your family. Just shows a lot can happen in a couple of days if your bro is showing signs of recovery already. Wise words from rumpel there too. Hope he is home soon.

Congrats on the job martha

re the rolling/crawling thing, my lo rolled over about 7 weeks ago and must have not liked it as he's never bothered again!!
Having conflicting advice from HVs re weaning. Had a weaning visit a few weeks ago to kind of persuade me not to start till 6 months. Saw a different HV in clinic on monday who seemed surprised that i hadn't started yet and said all the dribbling was in preparation for taking food! Might start in a couple of weeks after we've been on hols.

Congrats marthahm

bendyb- hope everything is still improving with your brother.

I have had an awful day- for some reason I feel really on edge.
I think money wise I have accept its time to think about going back to work, my year off is not going to happen. I really am dreading leaving LO so much I keep crying.
And I got a speeding fine today (£60) 41mph in a 30 zone. 3 points on my license too. Not really what I need right now!

Hope everyone else is ok. Sorry for ranting on.
Have a good evening. X
