Thinks DS is developing reflux after last nghts feed, he was given 10 minutes upright as is normal, before being laid to bed (which is at an angle.) He was'nt asleep and as I looked over him I nearly got squirted in the eye by a jet of regurgitated milk This is not the first time and it;s getting more frequent. Think I will go to the GP and insist on some gaviscon to see if it does anything.

Olihan · 21/02/2007 15:23

Glad your ds's are improving Magnolia and LFM, sounds like you've both found iracle cures for them.

Took ds2 to be weighed this morning. After his pathetic 2oz gain last week I was feeling a bit paranoid and was wonering whether to get the bfc back. But there's no need, he's put on 9.5 oz in 7 days. That's nearly as much in 7 days as he'd managed in the last 7 weeks!! So I'm a happy bunny .

So now all I have to do is get him to sleep for longer stretches in the day and I'll be sorted. He's still King of the 10 Minute Catnaps which is a bit limiting!!

How old were your babies when they starting napping properly in the day? I seem to remember dd being 3/4 months before she had a long morning and afternoon nap.

LowFatMilkshake · 21/02/2007 15:30

Hi Oli - Glad you bought up the napping thing, I was just wondering the same. DS seems to have a nap one day and none the next!

He's currently playing on his baby gym and babbling away to himself when my schedule wants him to nap

Anyoe else got really chatty babies - he doesnt stop when he's awake! Not that I am complaining, but I dont remember DD being so talkative!

LowFatMilkshake · 21/02/2007 15:39

No wait - he;s started whinging so I have put him in his chair with a blanket wrapped round him and he's gone straight off....Good Boy

castlesintheair · 21/02/2007 16:27

Olihan, DD2 was sleeping for about 2/3 hours each morning until a few weeks ago and now she's queen of the 10 minute naps . Should we get them together?! Just when I think I can get on with something, she wakes up! She's sleeping so well at night, I'm not really complaining. She doesn't just cry now thankfully when she's awake, she tries desperately to get everyones attention by "talking" instead(yes, LFM, one here too). I seem to remember my other 2 getting into the proper daytime sleep around the 3/4 month mark. So that should be about now as DD2 is 12 weeks tomorrow. It's gone soooooooo quickly, feel and IYKWIM

Olihan · 21/02/2007 16:36

Ds2 is also doing well at night so I'm really not complaining either! Definitely frustrating when I think he's soundly asleep, get started on something and , he's awake! Ah well, thank heavens for CBeebies is all I can say .

Lots of cooing and noises here too, mind you, he needs to start early if he's going to get a word in edgeways with ds1 and dd around!

Indith · 21/02/2007 17:28

naps? Sorry what?

And will someone explain to my dad that putting him in his cot awake and going downstairs and ignoring him will not make him sleep. Also, when he is showing signs of going to sleep at 5 and I say I don't want him napping at that point as will mean he won't go to bed at 7 it does matter and telling me it doesn't matter he can just go bed later is very annoying when I'm trying to establish bedtime.

Fantastic weight gain Oli! Good going

weirdbird · 21/02/2007 17:33

Its like magic Magnolia isn't it!

Dosage was what I was going to ask on here as so many of us seem to be on Ranitidine, having already had to get the dosage increased once cause the improvment started to ware off as she gained weight, when are you going back to see your Paed?

Now DD2 is actually sleeping she is having quite long naps at present, she had one for almost 2 hours this morning.

Also one with a chatty baby, except her favourite time to chat seems to be at the end of a feed when she is at the breast and should be latching on, she looks up at me with the hugest smile and starts to chat

Elibean · 21/02/2007 17:44

Glad to see LOs are doing so much better, Magnolia and LFM

Ranitidine...dd was put on 0.35mls to start with, and two weeks later it didn't seem to be working so well. She'd put on half a kilo, so although technically thats the same dose the GP agreed (I'd have lynched him if he hadn't, mind you) to up the dose to 0.5mls 3x daily. She weighs about 12lbs or so now, and its a low dose - plenty of leeway to up it.

It has helped, but only half the battle in our case - wind being the only half. And nothing seems to help that except walking up and down holding her tummy down, and my back is in dire trouble now ....

Oli, hurrah for the weight gain and naps!

Elibean · 21/02/2007 17:46

dd2 seems to have gone back to 2-3 hourly feeds/drinks at night [knackered icon]

She'll only do a few minutes, if that, on the breast - or take a maximum of 50mls if a bottle - then goes back to sleep with mouth clamped shut. I don't know if she's waking up because of tummy ache, then asking for milk for comfort's sake...or is just thirsty...or what.

dd1 was sleeping 11 till 6 by this time

Any ideas?? I half wonder if she's started teething sometimes, hands constantly in her mouth...but she's only 12.5 weeks...

Elibean · 21/02/2007 17:47

WB, isn't the chatting glorious?

satinshoes · 21/02/2007 17:49

my dd is feeding between every 90 mins and 3.5 hours. doesnt seem to be a pattern to it either

i wondered about teething, if i put my finger in her mouth she doesnt suck she bites it...?

OonaghBhuna · 21/02/2007 23:02

I had another nightmare of a day today. She isnt sleeping at all during the day. She has just finally gone to sleep at 10.45pm. She was utterly exhausted. Its so hard trying to juggle her and a 21month old dd aswell.
Do babies puke alot with colic? She is sick alot. She gets her first injection on Friday so she will be weighed aswell. She is definately thriving cause all of her clothes are getting small and she is heavier.

OonaghBhuna · 21/02/2007 23:04

Elibean - It probably is teething, my dd1 started teething at 9weeks and she cut her first tooth at around 4 months!!! It seemed to take forever!

magnolia1 · 21/02/2007 23:16

ds1 is on 1ml 3 times daily so a pretty high dose to start??

I think he is teething too! Biting on his fist/my finger/my nipple OUCH!!! I have given him calpol tonight s he has had real high pitched screaming fits Sleeping peacefully now

Kids have been a nightmare today Dh has flu and they just know the right times to start playing up

I lost it with dd4 at bedtime She's asleep now but I just want to cuddle her. Will make it up o her tomorrow

Debbsyandson · 21/02/2007 23:18

Chose to stay here coz the girls are great

Debbsyandson · 21/02/2007 23:20

i meant didnt have ds till middle of Dec lol lack of sleep me thinks....

LowFatMilkshake · 22/02/2007 08:09

Good morning everyone.

DS reminded me last night that we are still very much playing by his rules and decided that after 5 hours sleep he could do with a top up at 3.30am and then he wanted to chat for about an hour - so I left him to it, turned my back on his beautiful smiley face in the moses basket and rolled over to go back to sleep ! Then he had me up again at 7.30am!

We've already got him back on the 6oz bottle so I think this may have something to do with the amount of milk he's started to bring up.

On the plus side, DD's appetite is back and she's eating me out of house and home - which wont take long as Tesco need to deliver tonight. her breakfast is daddy's chocolate biscuits

LowFatMilkshake · 22/02/2007 08:10

Oh and welcome Debbsy - sorry meant to include that in last post!

LowFatMilkshake · 22/02/2007 08:26

Have just made GP apt for this afternoon, as DS coughed and a few seconds later hit DD with projectile milk from over half a meter away DD not impressed with soggy PJ bottoms! Gotto go now, everything covered in milk!

SachaF · 22/02/2007 09:23

Hi Debbsy and welcome,

Has anyone been using gripe water to settle their LO's wind at night? I tried it last night for first time, 6.30 feed was fine, 11.30 feed brought a fair bit of milk up and again at 3.30 feed. However slept much better inbetween feeds (in fact i slept until dh's alarm went off this morning - been a long time since that woke me and not ds!).
Then no gripe water with breakfast feed however still had a fair bit of milk came up and I now need to clean up my dressing gown! He is now a bit unsettled - he was wanting to take more milk but kept fidgeting and couldn't latch so i have put him down where he is generally ok but occassionally is letting out a cry (and trying to eat his hand which is his new trick this week).

Re: swimming - i asked my HV and she said the old advice used to be 3 months as polio was a live vaccine but it isn't any more, so there is no age limit set for health, however it probably would not be worthwhile until he was older as we would be lucky to get 10 mins in the pool with him. I took ds at 7 weeks when his cousins were visiting. For 25 mins. We have been back again at 8 weeks for another 25 mins and he has now been under the water as well - fantastic! However it is very easy for him to get cold.

Re: cots - we bought his and moved him in to it just after 6 weeks, but we have set it up as a bedside cot so he is still very near us.

Ah, he has just let out a loud fart and is settling a bit better....

Debbsyandson · 22/02/2007 09:27

thanks for the welcome guys

castlesintheair · 22/02/2007 09:33

Hi Debbsy how old is your LO or have you already said? Sorry bit groggy today. Must be half term chaos

Sacha, I stopped using Gripe Water/Infacol/Colief er, not much then about 3 weeks ago. That's when DD2 started to sleep really well at night. She's 12 weeks now.

LFM, it does sound like reflux Hope you get it sorted soon. My HV said over half of her new babies have reflux. She thinks it's something to do with winter v summer babies and not being outside as much, having colds etc. Does sound like it's tied in with breathing/congestion difficulties.

Debbsyandson · 22/02/2007 09:38

he was born on the 11th so e is 10 weeks old today
