Magnolia, DD2 is on 1ml 3 x a day as well. I need to get her weighed again but it's such a pita as I have to schlep over to some building miles away (with no parking) on monday afternoon (only) and then make another appointment to see gp

margo1974 · 22/02/2007 09:52

Hello from the house of Flu!

Everyone except dd2 has got it and dh has just come down with the sickness bug as well

Will catch up soon

Debbsyandson · 22/02/2007 09:55

Get well soon the margo household

Elibean · 22/02/2007 11:57

Welcome Debbsy! dd was born in November in the end, but no way was I moving threads by then - much too nice here

LFM, it really does sound like reflux - and with a floppy larynx he is almost bound to have it. Good luck with the GP - and glad your dd is feeling better.

As for Ranitidine dosages...we'd already gone up to 0.5 x3, but last night, on a hunch, I upped her evening dose to 0.7. I know we have loads of leeway to increase, GP told me we could triple the original dose if needs be - which would have made it 1ml (she was about 10lbs at the time).

And guess what? She drank well, slept from 9pm till 3am, then downed 4oz (unheard of for Mischa) then slept till 7.20am. And woke up full of smiles.

Now was it the increased Ranitidine, or the fact that we ditched the Moses Basket and let her sleep in her cot at the end of our bed, or just that another growth spurt is over?!?

Elibean · 22/02/2007 11:57

And yes, sorry, do get well soon Margo family....if its full blown flu, I know its horrid: know several people who've had it recently, and had very high temps. Wishing you better!

castlesintheair · 22/02/2007 12:05

I've been doing that too Elibean, upping the dose without GP sayso . I can't be arsed going to get her weighed all the time. It definitely makes them happier/sleep better. I've put DD2 in her moses basket in her cot bed . Tonight I have decided to be brave and let her sleep just in her cot. I keep thinking if I make any changes she'll stop sleeping so well. Pathetic isn't it?

Runninglate · 22/02/2007 12:57

Oh dear - it sounds like everyone is having a bit of a damp time

Do you know - I was wondering if my DD is teething because she's generally less settled / chewing her fingers / dribbling. She's 9 weeks today and I didn't know it could start this early .

Welcome Debsy and get better soon Margo!!

Debbsyandson · 22/02/2007 13:06

rl my sons doing exactly the same

castlesintheair · 22/02/2007 13:12

Re hand chewing, drooling etc, isn't this what they just do at this age? DD2 is doing it too. They can't all be teething can they?? In the olden days when we weaned at 4 months this was a sign they were getting ready for it.

Debbsyandson · 22/02/2007 13:24

i dont know castles im a ftm to only learning still.

castlesintheair · 22/02/2007 13:33

Well I'm a 3rd time mum Debbsy and still haven't got a clue

accessorizewithbabysick · 22/02/2007 13:50

Hey, welcome back debbsy How's Kai doing?
Finding it really hard to keep up on here, I read the messages and then completely forget what's happening to who!
Trying to sort out my reusables so I can start using them for good (ds2 too fat for the wraps I bought...) & get a sling so I can carry the fat little buddha round instead of killing my back - I think we have the same problem there, Olihan.
Good news on the sleep, Eli. DS2 sleeping really well, but I will strangle ds1 if he wakes up in the night AGAIN & then I have to feed an hour before I should have had to iyswim? This is the 3rd night this week I've got up at 4.30 & not been able to go back to bed. But I know, I know I shouldn't complain because ds2 sleeps so well & naps. I'll shut up now & go and hang out washing or something useful.

margo1974 · 22/02/2007 14:05

Hello Debbsey,

Thanks for all the get well vibes, I took DD1 to the hospital on Sunday night, I was worried that she was getting a water infection as she woke up crying and she was shaking from top to toe, I gave her nurofen before we went and the nurse gave her calpol and her temp had cooled after an hour so we took her home. I think she had a chill as one of the first symptoms of this flu. She has been very stroppy and it's hard not to shout at her.

Anyway we're getting better with the exception of dh, poor man, he's been pacing the floor most of the night, not knowing what to do with himself. He now knows how I felt at the beginning of the week!

Anyway potty training is continuing....

SachaF · 22/02/2007 14:12

Hand chewing - I thought this just showed more autonomy and awareness ie they have worked out that that hand they keep seeing is theirs and they have worked out how to get it to their mouth which is how they feel things (as hands don't have enough sensitivity yet), shame he can't establish the seperate bits of the hands and wean himself off of the dummy yet!
And yes, drooling is just what happens at this age as well, otherwise there wouldn't be such a thing as baby bibs in sizes smaller than weaning age (imo)
Ah, all that resettling for the lunchtime nap seems not to have worked for long - byee!

Olihan · 22/02/2007 14:14

Sacha, I was under the same impression re hand sucking and drooling. I think it's just something that's part of their development. I know babies can get teeth this young but it seems to be the exception, rather than the rule.

satinshoes · 22/02/2007 14:41

welcome debbsy

get well soon margo & co.

we're fine. dd had a nightmare from about 4.30 this morning. she was windy and unsettled and then i realised I'd eaten onions yesterday after omitting them from my diet for a month. i'm sure it affects her

lots of smiles at the mo though. she is awake more and more during the day but is more into her gym etc so a bit easier to manage. still struggling a bit juggling 2 dd's though even though dd1 is pretty good.

hi to all.

spina · 22/02/2007 14:50

hello everyone. welcome back debs! Will someone please reasure me that at some point in the near future I'll find the time to post here a bit more regularly. DS2 is being a star(i say this today because he only woke once for an hour last night--if i'd posted yesterday or the day before I would have been grumpy because the little monkey didn't sleep at all for the majority of the night ) Anyway, everything seems to be going well, but I just don't seem to get around to MN!

IS it too early for teething? i'm wondering if we're getting some in the next few weeks. He's only 7wks(and really a Jan baby who's sneaking along for the ride!)

I'm still not using reusables(or bought any or even decided which to go for!) I read your thread accessorize(how exciting to have started a featured one) but you sound so clued up. I need someone to just tell me to buy a certain brand! i really wish I'd done my homework while i was pg. what did I do with all that free time i had.
I amazed myself by cooking pancakes for breakfast yesterday morning for my whole family(including my visiting dad) before going to DS2's first music class!!! Today I'm totally flaking out and have eaten have a Waitrose brownie tray and most of a G&B chocloate bar(for my iron levels)

We move into a rented house tommorrow (while our builders remove the back of my house) so I'll be even less on here as i won't have my beloved broadband. I haven't even begun to pack becasue it's really weird, not really moving out and being able to pop back to get stuff if we need it.

sorry this is so long!!! there is so much happening and in the middle of it all a (not so tiny) baby.

Can't wait til I've got my own roof over my head, no builders and my new kitchen/rest of house. Dad gave me some money for my birthday in two weeks and I'm off to Cath Kidston at weekend to have a spurge!!!Can't wait.

Keep well everyone. I will try to read through whole thread when I get a moment.

SachaF · 22/02/2007 15:22

Hi Spina,
I'm using prefolds in the daytime, as they are dead easy to wash and dry (i line or radiator dry, then fluff up in the tumble drier) - for out and about i have them folded in their wrap ready to go and can whip them on as quick as a disposable. plus i take some spare pre folds that can be used as wipes for really messy nappies or if doing some nappy off time whilst out can use it as a cloth to catch wee.
I have ella's house bumhuggers for night time use as they are super absorbent but have to go back to changing nappy 4 hourly at the mo as it seems to help his wind problem to let him have nappy off time at 4 in the morning!
I have a few sized nappies which I quite like but tend to use them if eg someone else is changing him as if the prefold becomes unfolded they don't have to know how to fold them, they don't take too much longer but it is two 'fittings' that have to be done.
Kittykins is a good site for finding out about different nappies pros and cons but doesn't cover them all.
Off to change one now!!

OonaghBhuna · 22/02/2007 15:26

Welcome Debbsey,I had my dd2 on the 27th Dec had been on the due Jan thread and post natal thread but thought that this thread was more relevant to me, so I gatecrashed

DD2 slept from 10.30 until 5am last nightso I cant complain, but she was hard work all day long with the crying and all of her pains with the wind.Myself and dd1 had a dental appointment and OMG it was so stressful getting ready to go out. DD2 was howling the whole time and it just makes me feel so awful if I cant console her.I have found trying to get out anywhere this week really stressful because of the crying etc.My sister recommended cool boiled water, does it work?

Elibean · 22/02/2007 15:26

castles, exactly what we did: basket in cot, then out into cot last night. i felt same re risk, but had zero to lose! nice to know am not the only ranitidine rebel...

sorry one handed typing, aaargh, expressing....

Elibean · 22/02/2007 15:29

Oonagh, that crying sounds so hard...any chance she could have reflux too?? Or is it definitely wind? No idea re water, have heard cooled chamomile tea is good - not tried though.

I've got my other hand back, btw, hence capitals accessible now....

Elibean · 22/02/2007 15:33

AQ, I feel same when dd1 wakes me up at 1.30am - in between feeds of course - crying because she suddenly hates her duvet and wants her blanket

As for teething, I think it can be either developmental or developmental AND teeth. dd1 started drooling at 4.5 months, and got her first tooth about six weeks later - and it was clear she was having pain for weeks before they came through. dd2 on the other hand is chewing fists but not drooling, so I suspect its just developmental. No red cheeks, either. She does it when she's hungry, and when she's tired and/or bored.

ie about six hundred times per day

Elibean · 22/02/2007 15:35

not yet found time or courage to use more than one reusable nappy on dd....have a stack of 'em rapidly getting too small...

So I shouldn't really give advice. But did find the NappyLady website very helpful when researching

spina · 22/02/2007 15:39

...oh by the way.DS2 has the worst baby acne I have ever seen. And dry patches under his chin. It's comicial because from a certain distance/in certain light you can't see it and people say"oh hasn't he got lovely skin" then they rub his cheek and it's all bumpy.
He is beautiful in my eyes but gosh does he have angry skin!

spina · 22/02/2007 15:42

thanks for the nappy advice. Must do something about them. dh not keen at all.
