I think it is because we're inner london and there are more impoverished families in this borough than others like bromley.

although i'd take anything which is offered free

lucy5 · 25/01/2007 21:51

Hello, What a day!!!!!!! Ds slept nearly all night last night, yippeeeeeeee but he then stayed awake all day today and whinged and whined and fed. Oh lord I don't know whats worse. I feel like he has sucked all the energy out of me.

What's a BCG?

satinshoes · 26/01/2007 08:34

jabber - BCG is for tuberculosis.

yay - we got our first proper smiles today!!!! [hrin]

last night was a keiller as between 4pm and 1am DD had 3 naps of about 30 mins. But.....she slept from 1pm until 6am which is her longest stretch yet so i'm hoping it was a growth spurt (she fed loads) and maybe she'll start sleeping longer...

lucy5 · 26/01/2007 08:36

Hello! Just wanted to ask those of you who are using hungry baby formula, what brand it is, so I can see if I can find a Spanish equivalent. Leo consumes vast quantities of milk. He feeds off both boobs and then has a 4-5 oz/125ml bottle and will often want food again 2 and 1/2 hours later. DD was never this hungry. Somedays I feel he's zapped me of all my milk and energy!

satinshoes · 26/01/2007 10:29

forgot to say. i have added a picture of DDs to my photo page in my profile if your interested

castlesintheair · 26/01/2007 13:02

Lucy, SMA do a hungry baby formula and so do Farleys I think.

DD2 also slept brilliantly from 9pm to 5.30am last night. DH was going to wake & feed her at 11pm but fell asleep on the sofa and she slept through. Typical! Unbelievably she's just waking up from another 3 hour sleep. Someone tell me what I am doing right! Or is this how babies are meant to behave?

accessorizewithbabysick · 26/01/2007 13:15

OOh, I'm back, but did anyone notice I was missing for days?! Net connection down, I've been climbing the walls...
DS2 has only just started smiling properly & looking at me (7 weeks), I got a real kick out of him yesterday despite the fact that he had me up from 3am & didn't go back to sleep until 8am grrrr. Then the cluster feeding again in the evening, I was sat on sofa for 2 entire hours. I was going to ring someone to ask advice but having come on here it seems perfectly normal and I'll just have to put up with it. I just get so cold & cross because I can't go to the toilet or get some food etc.
Can't believe you're back at work, jabber, hope it goes well today. Don't think I could stay awake to the do the job, I'm absolutely dreading going back in June (later if we can find the money) as I'm enjoying it so much now.
Castles, how are your dizzy spells & headaches? I started on spatone again, and drinking as much water as I can manage, seems to be helping.
Glad Mischa is better, Eli, I'm sure you didn't want to go through that again. Did you have a good chat with HV?

satinshoes · 26/01/2007 14:26

i too find the cluster feeding really hard....

margo1974 · 26/01/2007 16:21

Lucy - Aptamil / Milupa is the one I have used. I think it is the most expensive, but was recommended by a friend

margo1974 · 26/01/2007 16:25

accessorise & satinshoes I am right with you re. the cluster feeding. I offer her both sides b/f and then have to give her formula as well, then when I have just about recovered she wants another feed!

She does seem calmer if we bath her in the late evening though

jabberwocky · 26/01/2007 16:40

Hey everyone, I'm at work, going pretty well so far even though my alarm clock got messed up and I overslept by an hour

Ds2 giving out lots of smiles here, too. It just melts you, doesn't it? He's 9 weeks now and the cluster feeding has slowed wayyyy down, thank goodness. So there is light at the end of the tunnel

I have been ultra stressed trying to get my work schedule sorted with what childcare I have cobbled together. Dh is being Mr. Mom with ds2 while I'm at work. Ds1 is such a handful there's no way he can deal with them both. My mom is helping out a lot as well. I think I've got things worked out finally.

lucy5 · 26/01/2007 19:31

Just want to come on and rant, sorry! Another stressful day. Ds again slept from 8.30-5.30 but boy did I pay for it. He was awake all day and whined and screamed and whinged, I think you get the picture.

In my wisdom I decided to take him for a day trip to Gibraltar. Never again! I tried to pick up a few bits, didn't really achieve anything. I breastfed him on a bench outside m and s and got a few funny looks. I thought he was bound to go to sleep but no more screaming. In the end I went into a cafe. BAD MOTHER ALERT coming up, I felt him doing a poo, phew I thought he musy have had tummy ache. I took him into the toilet as they don't have baby changing facilities in Gib. Oh my God! The poor boy had poo up his back, he'd already done a huge poo and I hadn't noticed, it had gone like green plasticine. The second poo was like watery dijon mustard. I sat on the loo and balanced him on my knee. I had to strip him and change him and do the best I could with wet wipes!

When I'd dressed him I thought my day would get better but alas I think I've traumatised him and he relived the experience for the next 2 hours and screamed all around Safeway. Second lot of shopping not achieved. I came home with some crumpets for dd, dry roasted peanuts for dh a big bar of Galaxy for me! Serves me right for craving English food, next time I will stick to Paella!

So sorry lucy, sounds like a trying day Ds2 does well in a wrap. He likes being cuddled up close to my body and goes right to sleep usually whether we are at home or shopping. He will not settle like this in a sling.

babypowder · 26/01/2007 22:32

Jabber, you've probably explained this before, but what's a wrap? I'm really short and find slings almost impossible. I love 'wearing' my little ones (DD1 was on my back day and night from 6 months to nearly 3), but I can't find a good, snug way of carrying DD2 until she reaches backpack size. I have a fantastic Kipling carrier, but she's notas happy in that as she is being carried up against me.

magnolia1 · 26/01/2007 22:45

Hi Girls,

My computer has been infeced have tried everyhing but still getting bloody pop ups. Dh's brother coming over to sort it hopefully soon.

Ben is ok but now has a cold. I feel a bit cheated at the moment. With the 4 girls I really enjoyed the teeny tiny newborn stage but this time am finding it quite hard. Ben has had one thing after another and thinking today I realised he hasn't actually slept for more than 2 hours and he is 8 weeks old!!! And he hasn't had a content period of time for more than 5 minutes

I know it will get better but I don't want to look forward to him gettig bigger just to get to an easier stage if that makes sense?

Glad Mishca is ok Eli xxx

Sounds like a tough Day Lucy, I feel bad for moaning when I realise I'm not the only one

magnolia1 · 26/01/2007 22:46

Margo, Yes bens infection was because of embedded/ingrowing toenails. Don't be fobbed off

jabberwocky · 26/01/2007 23:04

A wrap is really just a long piece of fabric. They send you instructions on how to tie it. I wouldn't buy one without an instructional dvd personally as it's hard for me to visualize things like that from diagrams. This is the one I have. I found one one on ebay Now that I have it along with the dvd, I'm thinking of making another one. You do have to use fairly heavy duty fabric. Or at least that's what mine is made of.

lucy5 · 26/01/2007 23:51

Don't worry about moaning Magnolia, thats what we are hear for. I moan at every opportunity! .

Jabber I have bought a sling, just haven't worked out how to use it yet.

jabberwocky · 27/01/2007 07:11

I bet you will really like it. They seem daunting at first but they're really easy.

One word of advice on a totally different subject. I was nursing ds2 in the cradle hold on the left side and the rugby hold on the right. (This started b/c of nursing issues on right then became a habit) So ds2 was turning his head the same way both times. Well I noticed a couple of days ago that one side of his head was getting really flat! Now I'm having to do the exact opposite to try and fix the problem He had such a perfectly round little head...The same thing happened w/ ds1. I am kicking myself for doing it ahain.

And dh was the one who noticed. I was blissfully unaware!

Olihan · 27/01/2007 19:41

Hello folks, it seems we have finally sorted out our broadband problem after being fobbed off with excuses since christmas so I may be able to post properly rather than lurking. The internet kept dipping out before, so by the time I'd finished catching up and was ready to post it often wouldn't go back on. Ah well, fingers crossed it's fixed now.

I'm doing okay at the mo. Was having a bit of a nightmare with the bf earlier in the week. Ds2 was feeding almost constantly right hrough the day with no more than 20 minutes between feeds and wouldn't settle. I couldn't do anything with dd and ds1 without ds2 screaming the place down. Then the HV came on tues to weigh him for the first time since we were discharged from the mws and ds2 still wasn't back to his birthweight. To be fair the hv wasn't worried but I was! I was so close to start giving him formula but dh persuaded me to phone a NCT bf counsellor who came on the Weds am. She showed me how to adjust my latch slightly and he now goes 3 hours between feeds and is back to being his usual content self. Amazing how the tiniest change can make such a huge difference! HV comes again next weds so we'll see if it's also helped his weight gain.

Eli, really glad M is okay this time, hopefully you won't have too many more scares!

Magnolia, I was the same after dd was born. She was so much harder work than ds1 and I just couldn't wait for her to get older. But then I also felt so guilty for wishing away the newborn bit. It's so hard when it's just one thing after another though.

BP, have you tried a Coorie sling? They're here and they keep them lovely and close. They're sized according to your shoulder to hip measurement so they should be small enough for you.

Lucy, don't worry about moaning on here. It always ressures me when other people moan - makes me realise I'm not the only one having a shocker!

satinshoes · 28/01/2007 08:25

terrible night last night. DD fed from about 5pm until midnight with just 20 min breaks. soooo tiring. DH let me sleep in spare room and gave feed in the middle of the night 9only 3rd bottle of formula ever so i'm doing well with the bf ) and it meant i got 6 hours sleep yay.

tonight dh is away though so not sure how i will put dd1 to bed and cope with dd2s cluster feeding . aaargh

Gloria42 · 28/01/2007 10:06

HELP! Been trying to express for about an hour and have only managed 100mls! DS wants to feed every half hour and devoured the 50mls I managed last night in about 2 minutes from a bottle. There only seems a dribble coming from each nipple. Am I just not supposed to bf or am I doing something wrong? Maybe low flow si why he wants to feed for so long?????

jabberwocky · 28/01/2007 10:37

Gloria, are you using an electric pump? Using breast compression? Drinking water? Relaxed? (I think I know the answer to the last one...)

Gloria42 · 28/01/2007 11:03

I've got an Avent hand pump but definitely NOT relaxed!

Feel completely useless TBH, feeding was the one thing only I could do (DP is great with other stuff) now I can't even do that
