OB - my dd and DS both started settling down at 8 weeks - including sleeping through, so hopefully it's just over the horizon for you!

weirdbird · 20/02/2007 00:11

We saw the Paed today and DD2 is now on Domperidon as well as the ranitidine, they also said we could try gripe water,

Well it don't work so great with reflux babies, it brought up her wind alright and most of the contents of her stomach with it!

Am really struggling at the moment as when she gets really bad stomach pains she won't feed but is still hungry so just cries patheticly at me and I get really frustrated cause I know she is still hungry and "might" settle if she had a tummy full, but I can't "make" her latch on....

"tears hair out!"

I just keep telling myself that this doesn't last forever and that I "know" that cause DD1 is still alive!

satinshoes · 20/02/2007 08:43

oonagh - i agree with milshake. things will hopefully setle down now. 8-9 weeks seems to be a turning point for lots of babies.

i seem to have either a bad day & good night, or a good day & a bad night. can wait until i get both.

I've had to accept that DD wont take a bottle. Weve tried 4 or 5 times and she isnt aving any of it. DH does it, I'm out of he room. She has a muslin that smells of me and we've tried whn she's mild hungryand absoultely starving. DD1 never took a botle soi had no break until she drank from a cup at 6 months. I naively thought it would be different this time as she had 1 or 2 in the first few weeks but then she got ill and we didnt persevere

LowFatMilkshake · 20/02/2007 10:02

WB - sorry to hear things still not working or DD - keep that mantra going "It will get better, It will get better"

Satin - I had the opposite problem, both DC's were nightmares to atch on - then again I suposse with nothing coming out pf my boobs they thought what's the point!

DS had another great night - OB take heart. Slept from about 8pm, albeit in dady's arms. Had bottle at 10.30 went straight in to moses basket. Woke couging around 6.30am so I bought him down for bottle. Went back to bed, DD woke and joined us and we all got up at 8.50! Also he seems to be bringing stuff up easier without the hacking cough.

DD still poorly drinks and has those puree puches, but refusing all food And even when the drink goes in her mouth she cries for the bucket as she thinks she'll sick it out again. She has'nt had anything in her tummy since noodles on Saturday night . I can see her geting weaker and more tired. Will try her with some digestives when DH gets home from work, if she reufses I will have to phone GP again.

SachaF · 20/02/2007 11:48

WB - sounds horrid, you have my sympathies. at least as you say you know dd1 is alive and healthy so you know things WILL get better, and i believe earlier you posted that dd2 is a healthy size (i remember 13 lb and growing out of 0-3 clothing) which must be some relief.
re windy bottoms, cycling legs hasn't helped before but last night i made the effort to get up and do a nappy change and nappy off time at 3.30am - he had a good 10 min kick, peed on the floor, took longer to get to sleep again but resulted in windy bottom not starting up till 7am (and without much crying) - and more sleep for me - so i will make the effort again tonight and see what happens.

OonaghBhuna · 20/02/2007 13:43

Milkshake and Satin thanks for your positive comments The Gods were on my side last night as she slept for 5hrs couldnt believe it I kept waking up and looking at the clock and then snuggling back to sleep again!!! Today is a better day the sun is shining she is much more settled which has meant that I have been able to spend some 1:1 with Dd1. We ventured over to the park and there wasnt a peep out of dd2!!! She must be exhausted after no sleep yesterday!

After some rest last night this must be the first day in 8 weeks that I feel more human.

LowFatMilkshake · 20/02/2007 15:41

DD has eaten some biscuits woo hoo . Started at around 11am and no sign of the reappearing yet!

She now says she feels well enough for the smarties she found in the cupboard .

Oh heck who am I kidding, she can have whatever she lies I am just pleased to see food going in again!

satinshoes · 20/02/2007 16:54

i think i'm heading for a bad night

I have just woken up. DD1 (nealry 3) is still asleep aftera 2 hour nap (v unusual) and DD2 has been asleep since 2.00.

Eek! what are the chance of getting DD1 to bed at 8.00? And of DD2 sleeping much tonight?

Indith · 20/02/2007 17:35

Well I'm at the old parental home. Think they must think ds cries all the time but after an ok night and a good nap in the car I can see my baby emerging from the monster of the past couple of days. Mind you they've not helped much, his gran ran him a cool shallow bath when he likes to stay warm and kick in deep water and then his grandad took him from me as I was getting my laptop out to settle down for a good feed and chillout before bedtime. Hmmm any guesses as to why he then screamed in grandad's arms for a good 10mins?

Ah well sure tom we'll find our routine a bit.

babypowder · 20/02/2007 18:50

Sending big hugs, WB. And Satin ... hope you get a decent night!

We're sitting waiting for the latest thyroid test results. It is good that they phone with the results on the day that the blood is taken, but it makes for a seriously stressful few hours Here's hoping.

Olihan · 20/02/2007 18:52

Fingers crossed BP! What will they do if it's still out?

jabberwocky · 20/02/2007 20:32

BP, hope you have some good news about the tests.

Baileys, it's nice to hear that your dd is better. And what a sleeper you've got with your ds We've had a couple of 5 hour stretches but it's still not the norm.

Ds1 had exploding diarhhea last night. I was up about every hour with him from 2:00 am on. At least both ds's slept well until that point...

LowFatMilkshake · 20/02/2007 20:42

Jabber - have to put hands up and say the sleeping has improved since we got the hunidifier. The night light (night - ha ha ha) illuminates our whole room and half the landing with a gentle blue glow, and theres a gentle whirring noise - I think that might have something to do with his restfal sleep!!

Things are bound to change this weekend, when he goes in to his own rooom - watch this space.

Am currently looking through USA E-Bay for American footbal, baseball and hockey clothes for him. Now DH's aunt is not going to be able to go to the US annually this is the ony way we have of geting the great kids fashions you have over there.

jabberwocky · 20/02/2007 21:46

We've cornered the market on humidifiers too We've got one in every bedroom now. I find I have to use a sleep mask b/c of the night light, tho.

I just popped into the local consignment shop and found the cutest gap pants and jeans for ds2. He's still around 11 pounds and in 0 - 3 month clothes. We're wearing the current stuff out with washing so finally decided to spring for some more. This will, undoubtedly, produce a massive growth spurt

Runninglate · 20/02/2007 22:13

Humidifiers? Should I be getting one?

babypowder · 20/02/2007 22:19

The hospital has just phoned. DD2's thyroid hormone levels are still elevated , but they are marginally lower than 2 weeks ago . We have to go back in 2 weeks. I'm still not sure whether the tests indicate hyper or hypo thyroidism, but I have a perfectly normal baby on my knee as I type. I'm going to ask my GP tomorrow (DD2 goes for her first injections) if he'll speak to the paed and get more info for me.

I wouldn't mind all this, but DD2 really is perfectly normal! Putting on weight nicely, neither too much or too little, normal nappies, jaundice fading. I'm feeling a little jaded tonight.

LowFatMilkshake · 20/02/2007 22:21

Runninglate - we got one because DS gets colds really easy and wakes up very bunged up. The cooler and more moist the air the better he sleeps and better his condition when waking, ready for a feed.

I also have a cold and sharing a room with the humdifier last night also helped me. Bit chilly though. Poor DS's hands are freezing in the morning. Luckily he has PJ's that fold over his hands, other than that I am digging out the scratch mittens again (though they're a bit small for him now)!

LowFatMilkshake · 20/02/2007 22:36

Hurrah! DS just took his forst 6oz bottle since being in hospital - guzzled the lot in under 15 minutes!

Only having 5 bottles a day now though due to sleeping through (I hope) so 30oz a day!

Getting weighed on Friday. But was 13lb.13oz when he was admitted at 8 wks 4 days

jasminelilylousmummy · 20/02/2007 23:35

Hi All

I need some advice!!! When did your lo's go into there cot, as my dd is still in moses basket, and I am too scared to put her in the big cot, but I keep hearing different stories as to when they shoudl be in it. Also does anyone no when we can start taking her swimming?? Thanks xxx

LowFatMilkshake · 21/02/2007 07:54

JLLM - My DS will be going in to his cot this weekend at 10.5 weeks, as he has outgrown his moses basket. But have got monitor and wedge and humidifier to make sure he is comfortable and safe - but that's specific to him as he can have trouble breathing.

My DS went in her cot at 16 weeks as although they were the same birth weight DS seems so much longer than she was.

Also re swimming it used to be you could'nt take them until after the second set of jabs - however I think that has changed. But I would check with your HV to be sure.

satinshoes · 21/02/2007 09:42

My DD1 went in her cot at 12 weeks. We hope to do the same with DD2 but she doesnt sleep as well so is still in moses basket.

I think they can go swimming anytime from their 1st jabs but you may want to check with HV. Again, DD1 went swimming at 3 months.

hth

Indith · 21/02/2007 11:12

swimming depends on the pool regulations, most want them to have had their jabs which is kind of annoying, really want to take ds swimming!

Why is that anyway? Not like anything they have jabs for is passed on by water so what makes it different to going out in general? Plus what about older unvaccinated children?

weirdbird · 21/02/2007 11:58

DD2 finally settled at 12.30 last night, but then slept till 6.30 so that was really nice, and is currently asleep now having fallen asleep after a feed !!!

Is this what having a baby without reflux is like???

Am now hoping she stays asleep so I can get some of this mountain of work done....

Cause sadly my clients don't pay me if I don't send them the files... whats that about ???

magnolia1 · 21/02/2007 13:36

Well we started ds1 on ranitine yesterday and although he took a while to settle, he went to sleep at 12ish and woke at 5am
He seems much happier, can it work this quickly?? And will it last???

The gp said to use the gaviscon aswell

castlesintheair · 21/02/2007 13:53

Yes, Magnolia, ranitadine does have an instant effect. Make sure the dosage is increased as DS gains weight. You'll know when this needs to be done as he'll get grizzly again. Pleased he's a happier bunny
