Hopefully this works...

So we can keep in touch and pass on words of wisdom!

Perhaps someone clever could link to the stats?

Crap night here. He snoozed too much in the evening so was so unsettled overnight. Down at half nine but I struggled to sleep. Maybe dropped off at 11. Up for a bottle at half 1 then he was wide awake! 2 hours before I got a chance to put him down then he slept fitfully and only with his dummy. He kept losing it too so I had to keep reaching over to put it back in. Feeling like a half shut knife now.

Hope everyone had a better night and feels more well rested.

socktastic · 10/08/2016 07:38

Dh and I came up with a new business idea last night.

Magnetic baby grows.

I hate poppers so they could be replaced with magnets.

The bonus being if you need to put your baby somewhere safe for a bit, you can stick them to the fridge!

primarynoodle · 10/08/2016 07:41

sock I had one of those nights on Monday. It's a killer!

Ok so this weekend were thinking about giving the first bottle of expressed milk. Can someone walk me through things like techniques etc but also how much to give? She will be nearly 6 weeks how did that occur

socktastic · 10/08/2016 08:06

Adam is on 180mls per feed now and he'll be 7weeks on Friday. But then he's been bottle fed for a while now. I'd say start with 120mls and if she's still hungry after that, she will let you know. What bottles do you have? Have bibs and Muslims handy. I find it's easier if I have Adam almost sitting up - it's supposed to help with burps too and give air a way out.

Let us know how it goes xx

Rubytuesday2980 · 10/08/2016 08:12

sock hope you can have a quiet day today. Think the magnets idea is good, fridge could then also double as a high hair, meaning one less thing to fall over!

primary we kept it really simple:
Made sure he was definitely hungry, DH did the first few bottles and held him in a different position to the one that I do when bfing, started with trying what I could express in 15-20 mins at same time of day as you want to give the bottle. Long term, offer the right quantity based on weight, and be prepared for some wastage - I've had a few 'crying while pouring breast milk down the sink' moments Blush

Cookiesandcoffee · 10/08/2016 08:13

Catching up this morning to all these scrummy babes!! Keep them coming!!

Visitors- not one person has come and helped with my housework Hmm not one cake, meal... Or anything for that matter!? I need new friends / relatives. I take that back MiL gave me some cash to stop by the butchers to buy a meat pack (sorry bluebell) but I lugged three children to town to get it?!

bluebell that cake!!! Yum!!

sock sorry to hear yu had such a rubbish night :( can you recover at all today ?

ruby this falafel sounds a dream - you are indeed a queen! I buy made ones from waitrose and Pop them in the oven. Yum. Might go and get some later!

dats so funny. I can't believe you attempted ceiling painting - you're incred for even trying!!

elliz oh my the spice rack!! Spice rack goalzzz for sure?!! Colour is a dream, the organisation.. Just wow!

flossie gutting about the smile , you will get the most in the future though :) my first smiled for a friend and she never let me hear the end of it. Bad friend. Am very lucky this time I got the first smile for sure!

primary that pic is so funny! I think I make similar faces when I want cake Grin I can't stop eating !

ruby the rest of he world are indeed idiots!!!

cheery sending virtual quiche!

George is up to 9lb15 and given I'be still stuck to boobie juice I'm rather pleased (have come so close to caving as the summer holidays progress!) my tomb stone will read 'death by summer holidays'

Cheery1 · 10/08/2016 09:59

Good morning! Well yesterday was quite the day of cluster feeding! Constantly on the boob ALL DAY from 2 til 10pm when I caved and used a dummy - he was using me as a dummy anyway and boobs were about to go on strike! Worked a dream (helped by Ewan the sheep) and he slept for a whole 4 hours then 2 hours after little feed. God after being awake and feeding since 1am yesterday I feel like a new person!!

Also Godmomma came and is bring brilliant - feeding me and making me drink lots of water and also completely charming Maurice. Finally a helpful visitor!!!! Thanks for my virtual quiche though cookies x

anna it's the night cluster feeding that's the killer. Think DH needs to go into spare room so I can get watching something during the night. Headphones plus wrestling baby onto boobs is too much faff!

ruby hope we're still in synch and your visitor situation has improved!

bluebell your MiL sounds amazing, mine is lovely and so sweet but not terribly practical - hence cooking a casserole on a really hot day, using every pan in the kitchen, not washing up and setting all the heat alarms off in the house, waking up baby who is just settled after an hour of grumbling. I tell you it took all my powers of restraint not to lose my temper!

Cheery1 · 10/08/2016 10:00

sock that was my night yesterday, hoping you get a better nighg tonight x

Cheery1 · 10/08/2016 10:02

flossie Mo was smiling all over the place for his grandma yesterday - bit gutting! I think I'm currently mostly associated with milk which is very serious business for DS - nothing to smile about there

Cheery1 · 10/08/2016 10:05

P.s. Well done cookies on that boob powered weight gain - good work!

Cheery1 · 10/08/2016 10:09

dats you poor thing! Honestly sounds like my day yesterday but I've just one baby and a finished kitchen on my side. Sending hugs and virtual quiche or falafels or whatever you fancy! Calm thoughts too to baby boy x

Cheery1 · 10/08/2016 10:10

Such cute pics!!! What a bevy of beauts we have! This is Mo post mega feed. Drunk on milk!

Okay. An intense few days at home getting into some sort of routine. My routine is to have no routine, as so far, that seems to be working. Miguelito is all of 5 days old now and so we're managing about 2-3 of sleep at night, 5-6 during the day, which would be great if we were vampires. Although then feeding would be a nightmare we were vampires.

When I do get some sleep, I'm having the most vivid nightmares imaginable. Aside from the Snaggletooth Steve nightmare I had early on in my pregnancy, I haven't had another vivid dream until after Miguel was born. So the opposite of what normally happens?

Oh gods, I was going to write a whole post about my labour but I think I'm just going to nap instead. The uncontrollable sleepiness......

MrsRolly · 10/08/2016 10:38

Hello ladies,

Sorry been hectic so far this week so catching up now.

Julf i hope you are feeling on the up and you have some decent RL support as well.

No smiles here yet I don't think aside from wind ones but we pretend those are if it's a bad day.

Dats your post made me laugh!

We weighed Raff on Monday and he is now 10lbs 7 at three weeks from 7lbs 13 born which we are pretty happy with.

He has settled slightly from the other night not quite as much sick but his third feed is now his fussy not going straight back to sleep feed so I am now really good friends with the hours between 3,30 and 6 depending on his whims Wink

Visitors are still coming which is lovely but tiring. my Dh has been recording with his band since last Thursday so we have barely seen him with work and it's meant some later visitors when he's finally home I have now given up on feeling rude and just taken myself and raff up to bed. Also my brother in law just knocked and opened the front door and came in the other day as I'm walking around in shorts and just my bra having just fed raff and trying to get dinner out the oven before it burns meanwhile raff is crying having been put down for 2 minutes (how dare I) I am hoping the shock may finally have cured his habits of thinking he can just come in whenever he likes without waiting for the door to be answered... Probably not but I live in hope!

It's red arrows where we live today, our normal watching spot is amazing but really really loud so not sure on if we need to change spots to ensure not deafening the boy ..

Off to do the shopping I am hoping for a less stressful experience than last week otherwise I may give in and go for online ordering but I do just love lidl.

Have updated some recent picture of raff while I am on my phone which is where all the photos are! I must back them up.

Have a good day everyone

Sleep pulpi sleep! Grab it if you can.

Dd is now two and a half weeks old and we've been lucky on the sleep front. She had to be woken to feed until the end of last week. Starting to feel more tired now though so smugness about sleeping baby is wearing off. We still manage about 3 hours in a row at night though so not bad. I think part of it is due to the bottle feeding. I'm disappointed that I couldn't bf and that I'm only expressing tiny amounts (not even enough for one feed). Dd is also turning her nose up at expressed milk.

primary dd is being offered 120ml at a time and has all of it about 60-70% of the time. She's two and a half weeks old. I'd suggest offering a small amount first - even if it's only 50ml. If baby will take it at room temperature or as soon as you've expressed you can always top up the bottle if dd is still hungry but if she doesn't like it you won't have wasted too much precious milk.

elliz loving the spice rack! Makes my spice drawer look pathetic!

dats hats off to you for even contemplating painting the ceiling! I can only just get off my backside to do the washing and sterilise bottles!

rosegold83 · 10/08/2016 16:10

Hello,

Just joining in on convo - I dipped in an out of pregnancy thread for babies Due in July.

My baby arrived on her due date, 4.5 hour labour very unexpected how fast it went.

Just spending time getting used to being new mum and blocking out over bearing (but lovely family) I had an auntie today who told me I shouldn't let baby sleep so much during the day GrinGrin mental.

Also thinking I have very hungry baby - I was breastfeeding but past 5 days introduced bottle as she wasn't getting enough from me - she's taking 100ml - which I thinks a lot but that's just today

AnnaT45 · 10/08/2016 18:04

primary I don't make babies i make toddlers lol! Here is another pic of her looking like atypical one week old!

sock you can get zip suits called wondersuit. They are marvellous. There is a Australian company called bonds that do them and I get my relatives to send them over as they are £18 each in JL! So if you know of anyone in Aus or have some JL vouchers then they are bloody amazing especially at 3a.m!!!

bluebell that cake looks awesome!

I'm very proud of myself today. We all went to a petting farm/play centre. DD1 had a ball! DH on the phone doing work for over 30
Mins so I had to run after her with Grace attached to me, 8 days after a section!! Bloody knackered now and having a calm day with Grace tomorrow!

Hope everyone is ok?

X

AnnaT45 · 10/08/2016 18:04

Sorry here is the pic that proves I make toddlers not new horns Grin

Bluebell20 · 10/08/2016 19:24

primary as tams said, warm expressed milk 50ml at a time to avoid wastage. Ruben is 4 weeks and took 125ml in two sessions this morning, which gave me a 4 hour break between breastfeeds. We use the Medela bottles which come with the pump kit.

Cookies - egads, could MIL not have purchased and delivered the meat?! Also, loving the phrase 'boobie juice'. That is going to become part of my lexicon henceforth!

Cheery hooray for your godma! Seriously cannot believe how unhelpful others have been. Also, Mo is scrumptious.

Pulpi, looking forward to the birth story. I too suffered from horrendous nightmares for about ten days after the birth. They were awful - I was having about four different ones per night as well. I woke up crying in hospital over one of them. I think in retrospect it was a combo of hormones, anxiety, and some fairly major brain processing going on following the birth! Glad to report much more restful dreams now, so hang on in there lovely.

MrsRolly that is some serious weight gain! Wow! Cute pics too. Your story about the bra and shorts made me laugh. Frankly I have lost all sense of propriety. We live opposite a pub and I am having to constantly remind myself to put my boobs away before I stand up from feeding so that I don't give the smokers an eyeful.

rose welcome!

Anna v impressed by your busy day! I managed to get out with some NCT pals for a three mile stroll, carrying Ruben in a sling. Felt really good to be stretching my legs in the sunshine, albeit sedately. Can't wait to be able to go swimming and running!

Think we have cracked how to best use expressed milk for us. I feed Rubes all night from the breast, then when he falls asleep after my last feed around 5am I hand him over to DH in the spare room, who then does the next feed with expressed milk, giving me a three or four hour uninterrupted snooze. When I wake up I then express immediately for use the next night... This only works tho because DH works from home a lot and can therefore hold onto Rubes till about 8.30am. It was beautiful to sleep so long - I've felt human all day long today! Mmm.

dollydaydream84 · 10/08/2016 22:12

Sock how long is Adam full for on 180mls? Dd is 7 weeks and has between 120-150ml expressed every 2-3 hours. Not sure if I should be increasing it now?!

Cookiesandcoffee · 10/08/2016 22:33

Very impressive day anna and OMG Grace really is GORGEOUS isn't she?! She looks so much older are you sure you didn't give birth secretly months ago?!

Yey cheery at last!! Godmama to the rescue! Mo is just so lovely. Love the little milk coma!!

pulpi you poor thing that sounds horrible. Hope they stop soon. -Awaits eagerly for birth story! - Feels like forever ago I gave birth now! Which makes me feel sad

mrsrolly that's insane! Are you feeding Raff protein powder or something?! Grin that's some incredible weight gain. Agree with you on the Lidl. I've given in and been online shopping with tesco for ease but I'm dying to get to a lidl bakery soon Wink and to look forward to an Aldi has opened since George was born. Soon as the bigger two are back at school/nursery me and him are hitting that up! Oh a mum's life...

bluebell your sleep plan sounds great! Celebrating the human-ness for you! Hope it may continue. I reckon those smokers may be having an extra fag out there to catch that cheeky eyeful Wink I'm waiting for the day I open to the door to the postman with nips on show.

DH hasn't fed George yet.. I haven't even left him with him for more than 10 mins. He doesn't even sleep in our bedroom and hasn't once. Is this remotely normal?

Smiles are coming thick and fast now - so lovely. Not going to lie 98% of them have been for me so I'm a very happy mama.

primarynoodle · 10/08/2016 22:33

Good god anna Annie's only JUST started to look like a little baby rather than a semi gremlin at 5 weeks! Isn't grace lovely Grin

Thanks for advice everyone. I have frozen my breast milk in 75ml bags but that's a great idea re:expressing and seeing if she takes it straightaway in a bottle - think I will do that first.

Just had a look at all the photos from the start of the thread - can't believe how much our babies have changed! Wishing everyone a decent nights sleep..

OP posts:
primarynoodle · 10/08/2016 22:34

.. Failing that get drunk on milk like mo! It'll make time pass quicker ;)

OP posts:
socktastic · 11/08/2016 02:11

dolly he usually goes 3-4 hours between feeds, but sometimes he takes more than other times. We got him properly tables up before bed. He'd had his 180 at 6 and we gave him as much as he could take at 8pm. Result being he's just slept from9-2!

What bottles is everyone using? We got the tommee tippee anti colic bottles and the tests keep collapsing in on themselves. Very annoying and makes so much mess!

socktastic · 11/08/2016 02:14

dolly we were also not sure about increasing his feed but HV said if he's finishing 150mls most if the time then put the feed up. He needs to have something to refuse.
