Welcome, welcome, welcome to the 10th Just Mumming thread...following the trials and tribulations of our babies, following the success of Just Shagging in getting us viroids upduffed!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The 43rd grads thread is here

The thread we have graduated from is HERE in its 56th outing. WARNING: they're all a bit kerazy not to mention randy!

The previous Just Mumming thread is HERE

There is also a private facebook group (so it doesn't give the game away in your news feed!)... if you want to join to see photos of new babies etc, just ask in-thread!

Aw carrot that's adorable

CarrotPuff · 01/03/2016 09:22

I'll try the hospital first and see what they can offer as we are going there anyway. Yes, lansinohing here.

I don't know if we have local LLL, do you have to pay for their consultations?

There is a v good trained HV at my local boob group, she can diagnose tongue tie, etc. but that's not until Thursday.

It's only day 2 so no milk yet, last time it came in day 4, I don't know if it's earlier second time around? She's already cluster feeding thoughConfused

CarrotPuff · 01/03/2016 10:50

Popz that flipple thing looks quite interesting, I'll try that next time she needs a feed, thanks!

Hobbit19 · 01/03/2016 13:51

Wowza I just youtubed the flipple technique. Massively improved my latch at 9 weeks in, and so easy! Wish I'd seen it before!!

RPopz · 01/03/2016 13:58

I don't think LLL charge, no. X

ZylaB · 01/03/2016 19:34

Flipple is ace! Helped us loads when H was little :)

honeysucklejasmine · 01/03/2016 22:31

We tried flipple today with some success. But then she once again decided her hand was more fun to suck and got very annoyed when I removed it. Sad

Tomorrow we are going to biological nuture until she cracks. Wink

CarrotPuff · 02/03/2016 00:03

Well it didn't work for us that well Sad MWs at hospital said positioning and latch look perfect, but nipple still comes out misshapen, although a few times we managed to get a slightly better shape. They wanted to find me a nursing consultant but she was busy. She called me later in the evening and arranged for someone to come see me tomorrow.

I think my milk is starting to come through, so watermelon boobs should be in full force tomorrow. At least I'll be able to express (although I hated it with DS) and they don't have to suck so hard to get the milk out compared to colostrum IIRC?

Now if I could only convince her that cool kids sleep in cribs...

Hobbit19 · 02/03/2016 02:46

Good luck with that one Carrot! If your nipple is still misshapen (is that a word!?) then definitely keep seeking help or it is going to get really sore!

Well done Honey and A for progress! Is A still on formula too Honey? Is she having that in a bottle? Just wondered if she is getting a bit of nipple confusion or if she is getting annoyed at the breast because it is more work? Try Youtubing "paced bottle feeding' to slow her down a bit. What kind of teat are you using on the bottle?

P has some Aveeno cream for her skin and baby gaviscon for her tum. Gx they work!

LaLaLaaaa · 02/03/2016 06:15

Morning!

Night weaning - I really don't think we can just now. He definitely needs a feed still in middle of night, around 12/1. He's a chunky lad at 22lb! We've been doing shifts at night with mum here so I've had more sleep, but he's still waking regular. I'm concerned there's an underlying reason. He has silent reflux and eczema. I smother him with aveeno before bed and he's on ranitidine but perhaps he's sore or itchy?

Honey definitely try to keep asking for help. It really is worth it. LLL leaders will call you back if you phone their helpline. I found the nct helpline not much use but try it. I went to bf clinic at local family centre, then spoke to a LC in my area (the magical legend that is Jill). If you're wanting to bf do try to get help and persevere with the latching. Pumping and feeding EBM is obviously fine and will get some milk into her, but feeding from you is the best and you won't get as much milk expressing as you will latching her on, I would hate for you end up unable to bf just because you're being too polite to ask! Xx

On that note Jill has asked me to be a bf ambassador in my area, to speak to new mums about my difficulties and successes and hopefully offer support. Feel very proud to have been asked. She's going to ask before too.

Pud it might be a bit of infant eczema - B has it. Aveeno works

Carrot your DS sounds so cute! Rather than sticking nipple in her mouth the nipple should be pointing at her nose to encourage her to open wide to latch. Ouchy to cracked nipple!

LLL is free. Check also if you have a LLL Facebook group in your area. Ours is brilliant and leaders are on there to answer questions

If your nipple isn't looking right I'd definitely Google to see if you have a lactation consultant in your area. Ours runs the local nct baby group so you can take baby along and she'll help for free. Expressing and feeding is fine but obviously if you want to bf her then they can help you. That's fantastic that someone's coming out to you.

Still in mental turmoil over here. I know I bore on about it but I really can't bring myself to stop bf, even though I know I really should. He's waking so much at night, I'm exhausted, my Dh and I aren't getting along, we want another baby and generally I'm just a big grumpy fed up pissed off mess. Left side still not working properly and I am quite clearly lopsided when you look at me. I get sad about it because we've done so well to get to 7 months with all the issues.

jellypi3 · 02/03/2016 06:58

:( la that doesn't sound ideal. Have you spoken to your LLL about stopping the odd feed? Also can you start TTC without dropping the feeds? You could be ovulating without AF couldn't you? I've no other advice.

I expressed this morning and my milk spurted so fast it back washed into the medela unit. I had to clean it all out at 4am this morning, fun times Hmm

ZylaB · 02/03/2016 07:24

la you've done so well and you don't have to stop if you don't want to! Just dropping an odd feed might kickstart AF, how about the night one B still needs, then you and DH can take turns and get a full nights sleep?

Hobbit19 · 02/03/2016 08:38

La that's fab about being a BF ambassador, you will be great! Well done! Re: stopping BFing, despite all the reasons for doing it you sound like you are not ready. Can you FF for the night feed so that DH can do it and then BF in the evening? That could be a long enough break to bring back AF too? You'll be less tired and B may break the association with waking up and boob. Are you on the anti reflux formula for his formula feeds?

Did lots of shopping on Boden (v middle class darhling) during P's night feed. I am a smidgen fed up with not being 'me'. I have look like shit since I got upduffed almost a year ago now. I have started exercising which really helps (That's not a vanity thing, I just like it), but I am still wearing slightly greying big pregnancy pants, ugly nursing bras that have been washed too many times and the two tops I can actually feed in. Blurgh. (This bit is vanity!) So, new clothes coming this week and having a haircut on Saturday so will hopefully feel a bit less haggard! Some sleep might help but you can't have everything! Need to go underpants shopping too (woo!) Have organised a shopping trip minus P for Easter, looking forward to it already!

Hobbit19 · 02/03/2016 08:41

X post with Zyla there! Great minds etc!

RPopz · 02/03/2016 08:43

You don't have to stop for ttc La - I haven't. Minipopz had a 24 hour nursing strike when he was poorly and that kickstarted AF. My cycles are long and irregular but stuff is still happening. Don't stop if you don't want to xx

I think the sucking fists thing is normal newborn behaviour - I remember minipopz doing it and being very angry that a) there was no milk in there and b) me removing said fist to replace with boob! They are contrary little buggers. Get as much skin to skin as you can.

In what way misshapen carrot? Did you manage to see the HV?

Its not much consolation now but getting a perfect latch at this stage isn't the be all and end all. Their latch will naturally improve as their mouths get bigger.

I've still got horrible bug and had to phone in sick this morning which doesn't look great when its only my second week back! Shock

RPopz · 02/03/2016 08:44

Oooh that sounds fun pud! Smile

jellypi3 · 02/03/2016 09:50

Get well soon popz!

honeysucklejasmine · 02/03/2016 10:09

Pud yeah she has formula about 50% of the time, from a mam bottle with newborn teat. We take it out every half ounce or so and burp her, and slow her down. So she's not used to a free flow, so to speak.

Popz glad to hear minipopz was a fist sucker too. Hopefully A will get there - I do think her mouth is a bit too dinky for my boobs, so maybe it will get better as she gets bigger. but she won't, she's going to stay my tiny beautiful baby forever and ever and ever

La congratulations! That's great that Jill feels you can help other people. Smile

Pisghetti · 02/03/2016 11:19

Fell off da fred...

I've camped out downstairs all night because dp was getting annoyed at her restlessness all night Jelly are you serious? He needs to learn what normal baby behaviour is and if it bothers him so much then he fucks off downstairs. I can't believe that?!

CarrotPuff · 02/03/2016 13:19

Sorry by misshapen I mean pinched like lipstick.

Sorry wanted to write more but will try to catch some zzzz first.

jellypi3 · 02/03/2016 14:46

pis I think it's more frustration because he can't do anything. I do feel bad because he works long days and if he can't sleep it really affects his day. But yeah it's a bit annoying.

SnapdragonAzZ09 · 02/03/2016 15:34

Hi Carrot, hi Honey*, congratulations for your little bundles! Lots of luck with the bf, it is hard in the early days, a new skill you both have to learn which is pretty challenging when one of you hasn't read the instructions! It really does get easier.

R is pretty much over the croup now, thankfully. Though he still has a cough and is waking up ALL NIGHT. His sleeping is worse than ever. Saw the paediatrician yesterday and we are adding in an evening dose of reflux meds as things seem to get worse towards early morning, so may be linked to the meds wearing off. We also have allergy testing on Friday so hoping we can get to the bottom of his hatred of milk! La, has B'a ranitidine dose increased as he's got bigger?

Get well soon Popz. Any more news on your house move? We're going to see a house tomorrow. It's big and in a great area but needs a tonne of work. Would that be madness with two little ones?

Does anybody else's baby make a noise like a pterodactyl playing a kazoo?

Pud, yay for midnight shopping!

RPopz · 02/03/2016 15:50

Possible madness snap but even houses which need no work doing on them you'd end up wanting to do up anyway!

Move now may not be happening on Friday because our buyer is a cockwomble. However I feel like death and half of the house remains unpacked so its possible he's done me a favour....

Can't he sleep in the spare room jelly? I slept ("slept") on the sofa for a couple of weeks with mini in the moses basket but it wasn't much fun.

ZylaB · 02/03/2016 16:13

snap H was on ranitidine for silent reflux, her dose didn't go up as she got bigger, because I think it often links in with that valve starting to shut properly as they grow and their stomachs getting used to things etc etc. BUT that said, if you feel it's not working then take him back and ask about it, it is originally calculated by weight so they could do a dose adjustment for you if needed :)

Hobbit19 · 02/03/2016 16:44

Ooh exciting about the house Snap! I love a bit of interior decor/renovations. We've had to put the brakes on that due to maternity pay but the house is almost finished. The garden is a MESS though!

Zyla/La how did/do you give the ranatadine? I am giving P Baby Gaviscon dissolved in cooled boiled water in a bottle. P drinks it and then dribbles it all out an looks generally unimpressed. I feel like I am trying to force feed the poor bean salt water. Sad I also don't want her making negative associations with the bottle... Any advice?
