Today Ds has been swimming, had a load of fresh air at the beach, laughed his little socks off at my parents, had some decent feeds and finally got some batteries in his Ewan the dream sheep. I have high hopes for sleep tonight🙂

Good luck with the early wake up kbro.

Just 3 nights in a row clstow. There have been many, many other cheesy meals, but we had Thursday night off!

Right, I really should sleep as Ds is snoring blissfully next to me. Good night mugabeans - I hope you've all had a fab weekend.

Frolicacid · 03/01/2016 21:48

X-posts mzzf - fingers crossed for a good night for you.
No wine for me - I'm still stupidly scared of being ill after 9 months of it. Although, maybe a dash of cab sav in my milk would help me get some sleep 🍷 Hmmmmm...

MaGratgarlik1983 · 03/01/2016 23:42

Got a fire stick for xmas and have been watching outnumbered all day hilarious!! Also rug doctored everywhere wow! Recommend it!

Grok · 04/01/2016 05:33

Mugabe all!

Mcgra-
, I've thought about hiring a rug doctor - are they good? The carpets need it!

Night 3 in the nursery and things haven't gotten worse from sleeping in my room. I at least have a comfy glider chair to feed LO in! She seems to always get up at 2 and 5 no matter what. It would make such a huge difference to my sleep if she could drop one of those feeds! Any suggestions?

Starting on food also gone well. Purée carrots Day Two. We also have been keeping her up after her 7am feed on the hopes of earlier bed (no more 10pm-midnight pls!) and it's worked. Down at 9 tonight and am hoping a few more nights she should be in bed st 7.

But jaysus is still love her to drop one of these feeds!

Dozygirl · 04/01/2016 06:04

Happy new year mugabeans. Not posted in awhile. Not got much to add really. Been reading lots.

Fatty lol at the chocolate biscuit.

Mzzzf hopefully it wasn't a fluke. Im sure side lying is fine now. Some ppl still allow their babies to sleep prone even.

I've enjoyed time off with my dp this Xmas holidays. Definitely made a difference to our relationship with him not being as tired.
House is a mess though so today is mission clean and tidy.

My dd is definitely getting to the stage of being distracted when feeding. I can't eat at the same time otherwise she pulls off to stare at me. So far it's not meant that she's woken up any more often in the night thankfully.

kbro79 · 04/01/2016 07:15

We are up!! My god getting out of bed when I know I could feed him back to sleep is hard so this better be worth it DS. Let's see.

Frolicacid · 04/01/2016 07:42

Morning all!
It was quiet at the bar last night. I hope that's a good sign 🙂
We had a better night - quick feeds at 11:30, 2:30 and 5:30. Ewan the sheep helped him self settle a few times in between.
He has discovered blowing raspberries on my boob this morning! It's hillarious apparently. I'm not sue how it's going to help project feed him up during the day 🤔

No idea how to drop one of those feeds grok. I would also love to.
Glad the weaning is going well so far.

Happy new year and welcome back dozy. We missed you! Piper sounds like she's getting interested in food. Are you giving her any yet?

Good morning kbro ☕️☕️

I'm going to try and get up, rather than stay in bed until his next nap. I have also asked dh to stop brining me toast every morning 😮 I hope that not having breakfast at 6:30 should help me not go on a kitchen rampage mid morning.
Happy Monday augmums. I'm going to miss dh, but am also quite glad to get back to routine.

sianihedgehog · 04/01/2016 08:58

Morning all! Exciting times in the Hedgehog house - we have a tooth!! DS has been biting and worrying at my knuckles like a wee rottweiler for a week or so and yesterday afternoon I suddenly went "ow, sharp!!". He's quite unnerved by it and spent all evening making faces as he tried to feel at it with his lips, tongue, and hands.
I think that we're going to jump the gun on trying solids, too. He's now sitting properly, so we've got him a high chair to sit at the table and have dinner with us, which he LOVES. And he's showing huge interest in food now - he grabbed a bit of my cinnamon bun and jammed it in his gob the other day. I think once he's over 5 months we're going to start offering him some cooked veg to try cramming in his gob whenever we eat and take it from there.

I'm going to really miss DP being around - we got so much done over the holidays just with having him to play with DS whenever I needed to get stuff done. And he really stepped up on Friday and did a whole bunch of housework himself while I went to Ikea with DS.

Tindel · 04/01/2016 09:21

Morning all! We had a second night of an early calm bedtime - J was asleep by 730. In exchange, we now seem to have 2 night feeds around 2am and 5am. Fortunately J seems quite content lying in his Moses basket sucking his hands early in the morning, so I could go back to sleep. I know he can sleep longer than this, so hoping once we get over the sleep regression, he will be able to drop the 2am feed.

Lol at frolic baby blowing raspberries - J thinks it's the funniest thing if you do them at him, but hasn't worked out that he could do them as well.

I'm another one missing DH going back to work, but looking forward to getting back to more of a routine. I also have a CBT session this afternoon, so hoping to get J to sleep during that so I can concentrate

Happy Monday all!

kbb23 · 04/01/2016 09:57

Hi all were still teething here. Anyone know how long it lasts its been going on for 2 weeks now. We have 3rd lot of javs tomorrow too are they any worse than the last lot?

Slowifeandthegrumpydwarfs · 04/01/2016 10:01

Nothing to add really other than a massive 👍🏻👍🏻 for the rug doctor. Amazing things 😄

Slowifeandthegrumpydwarfs · 04/01/2016 10:02

kbb our 3rd lot of jabs were the best yet. Didn't really bother her at all. Fingers crossed its the same for you. As for teething, that's pretty much indefinite in my experience...

Frolicacid · 04/01/2016 10:37

Yay for cutting that tooth Fergus! Was his teething bad siani?
Ds has been biting and dribbling for weeks, but no sign of anything kbb. I'm hoping it ends soon, but am also not looking forward to teeth since he won't take a bottle.

Well done J on another good night tindel. I'm so pleased that both our evenings seems to be getting better. I hope it goes well this afternoon.

Can someone please make the rain stop so I can take the dog out?

sianihedgehog · 04/01/2016 11:19

Frolic honestly, it wasn't that bad! He's been a bit fussy - particularly around feeds - and very bitey, and his sleep has been a bit disordered but he's just got a really calm and sunny disposition. He's SUPER chilled today, though, so I think he's glad it's through.

kbb it came on so gradually with Fergus that I can't really tell. Maybe a week or two from it being very obvious to the tooth coming through.

FattyNinjaOwl · 04/01/2016 11:22

Yay for teeth Fergus
Nathan just blew a kiss! He's figured it out and Jeeps blowing me kisses Grin
Teething can last ages kbb my DD was dribbly and had red cheeks and constantly chomping, in pain etc from 3 months. She cut her first tooth at 7 months.

OP posts:
kbb23 · 04/01/2016 11:41

Im hoping one is nearly through and then he'll calm down as he gets a bit whiny with them hurting and keeps going off his milk. Other than he's ok though. Good to know that 3rd jabs will hopefully be better.

MaGratgarlik1983 · 04/01/2016 12:34

The rug doctor is amazing. Our carpets look new! For those who want to drop a feed, do you dream feed? I feed DS about 11 and sometimes he drops the 2am feed although not always. We have a bottom tooth coming through I can feel the top of it ouch!

Joskar · 04/01/2016 13:45

Still here. Lurking because it's just been manic with illness and family and so on.

Dd2 is waking for feeds all through the night at the moment. It's killing me! Hopefully she goes back to her sleepy self eventually.

Took the tree down today. The room looks so empty without it. No doubt I'll still be finding pine needles in June though!

Glad to be getting back to a routine. Need to pay a bit more attention to naps and see if I can get her to be more predictable.

No rolling yet. Very wobbly sitting. Very good at pushing herself up though.

Reckon we'll be a while before we try food. She's not showing any signs of wanting it and I'm more than happy not to have the hassle.

Want to start the diet but there's loads of yummy food left over still. Oh well. A girl's got to do what a girl's got to do!

Frolicacid · 04/01/2016 15:14

Swimming lessons were great 🙂 He was the youngest there and an absolute champ. Lots of serious face, but no crying.
He's flat out now, so I'm going to try and get a nap in too. Just thought I'd share this lovely read one of my friends posted on Facebook. I hope you're all having a great day.

kbro79 · 04/01/2016 15:40

Frolic I just saw that on facebook too. V nice and v relevant for us at the moment.

rrra · 04/01/2016 18:03

Sorry have been AWOL. Been too exhausted and a bit low to post. DS is still waking in hourly intervals through the night. We are in to week 6 now. I just don't know what to do now. Tried tummy sleeping last night but no difference. Last ditch attempt will be stopping BFing and going formula, but don't want to do that really. At least not for a while. Weighing up my mental health vs emotions around BFing and 'doing my best'. My fear is my DS just doesn't know how to sleep without help anymore and switching to formula won't help, and I'll lose my supply for nothing.

Sounds like some are suffering similar. Big hugs to you.

A few of the babies are cracking on with things now, aren't they? Sitting, rolling, blowing kisses! How fab!

Looking to start swimming lessons soon too. For both DS and 3yo DD. might need some better sleep first though!

mzzzf · 04/01/2016 18:16

Great blog frolic!
It's one of the things I feel so guilty about everyday, doing hardly anything 'constructive' about the house and the like. Sometimes just sorting her out consumes the day like wildfire and I've not even managed to walk the dogs before DH comes home. Makes me feel awful that I do nothing so this is a good read!!

Joskar - hope the illness is on the way out now. It's the law of the elves that ALL festive food must be consumed before any diet attempt starts!

Tried side sleep again with mini mzzzf and the pared down bare cot. She was not a fan, mostly because she kept trying to get into 3/4side lying (so almost flat) and with no bedding to support her just ended up on her back at speed. So back in with the big bedding a luckily got a 4hr stretch, followed by a couple of wake ups and then another hour 😁

We shall see what tonight brings!

Slowifeandthegrumpydwarfs · 04/01/2016 20:18

Evening all,

frolic cheese and biscuits is a perfectly acceptable lunch or dinner at any time of the year. Joskar same goes for Chrimble leftovers, especially if you have been poorly over the festivities themselves.

rrra sorry to hear that you have been feeling low, sleep deprivation is an absolute killer. Please, please don't feel like you have to give up bf'ing though (unless you want to, of course, that is a totally different kettle of fish). As many of the lovely ladies on this thread will attest, ff'ing does not necessarily = a good sleeper. I totally understand the awful feeling of just wanting to try anything to get a decent nights sleep but only switch over to formula if that is actually how you want to feed your baby, don't do it in the pursuit of sleep - it's a risky strategy. There are great resources to help you continue bf'ing here: kellymom.com/category/bf/normal/ and see if you can get to a support group if there are any near you - I find it helps just to spend time with others going through the same trials!

grok we seem to be stuck in the 2am / 5am holding pattern too. No idea how to get out of it, other than make sure I am feeding her often during the day and wait for her to grow out of it. She was only 13b 14oz when last weighed so she is still a bit light to be sleeping through longer. Magrat I haven't tried dream feeding, I have always been a bit wary of artificially introducing a feed that will then also need to be dropped at a later stage. I may change my mind though if we get to 16lb and are still feeding twice a night!!

frolic glad that DS enjoyed swimming. Bet he looked super cute in his swimmers - please tell me he was rocking a swim hat. I always think of frolic baby in a hat for some reason so I'd like to think he had one for all occasions!!

siani good work on the tooth Fergus!

I thought I would miss DH being back at work but actually it was lovely here today, very relaxed. Grumpy 2 had her best daytime sleeps for days and we got loads done. It has been nice having everyone home for the holidays but I do think we function better as a family unit for a little routine consistency Grin

Frolicacid · 04/01/2016 21:26

Evening all! It's definitely an expresso martini day for me. I'm shattered.
I know we've mentioned it before - but I can't remember if anyone on here dream feeds? Ds has been waking 11-12 regularly and I'm thinking of trying to feed him a bit earlier, before I go to sleep. I find I'm much better if I get a decent chunk to start with rather than the hour or so I've been getting before the first feed recently.
He's stirring now, so we might not even make it that far tonight.

Blowing kisses sounds super cute fatty. You really do have a clever one there.

Nice to see your name again jockstar. I hope the bugs are leaving you now. I am also valiantly working my way through the last of the Christmas food. Such a chore 😉

Sorry you are feeling down rrra. It's so tough when they just keep waking. No advice re: bf'ing or trying a bottle. As always, whatever works for your family is the right choice. Don't be tough on yourself, whatever you decide.

The not getting anything done thing is so true mzzf. Some days I do loads around the house and others I barely manage to get us both dressed. Dh doesn't mind in the slightest, but I feel so bad on the days I don't manage much. The blog really resonated with me and I'm glad I could share it.
Fingers crossed the semi side position and big bedding help you catch some zzz's tonight.

No swim hat I'm afraid slow! He does wear a lot of hats out of the water. I took him in just a swim nappy, which was a bit of a mistake as it kept almost coming off every time I lifted him out of the water! I ordered some little trunks to help keep it on as soon as we got home.
I was thinking the same about missing dh but actually having a better day in terms of less distraction. The huge smiles Ds gave him when he came home melted my heart.

I've just done another feed while typing. Time for us both to crash out now I think. Night night 😴

Clstow · 04/01/2016 21:38

Oh gawd we are having an absolute nightmare finding childcare for DS from April when DP will go back full time and I'll go part time... So much so that I may have to stop working until we can sort something. Argh this was not part of the plan. I love DS of course, but I love my career too. And DP seems pissed at me like it's my fault there's no childcare where we live. Grrr. Sorry, rant over. Just hope this too shall pass.

We've been having a midnight/1am and 5am feeding pattern, but last night gave DS an extra oz of milk before bed and he slept till 3 then went back down till 7:30. Mind you we were up from 3-4:30 so not sure that's much better really.

Rra I've swapped DS from BF to FF and it really hasn't made a difference sleep-wise - his sleep is still totally inconsistent and seemingly random (see above). But if FF means your DH can help out with night feeds maybe it's worth a go? Whatever works for you, but as Slow says FF doesn't necessarily mean Zzzz.

Yay for a tooth Siani - I'm hoping to see one pop through soon, the amount of dribbling, gnawing and pain poor DS seems to go through.

Thanks for the blog Frolic, when I got home after being out most of the day yesterday, DP was like 'How are you supposed to get anything done?!' It made me smile as I remember being the same when he went back to work 3 weeks after DS was born. Nowadays of course I'm super productive... Managed to eat two cupcakes and meet a friend for coffee today Grin
