Clstow- DS has 5 or 6 7ox bottles per 24 hours but will usually only take about 5 for 2 of them- so 30- 35 oz a day.

Kbro we didn't bother with the sales either after lazing around most of the day it was gone 3 when we ventured out and so just got the essentials we were going for originally!

Mzzf- I don't think your a bad mummy for it if you can keep and eye on her and it gets her off to sleep-could you roll her onto her back once in a deep sleep if it makes you feel better?

Wow Magrat I can't believe your LO is in bed for 5.30 that's amazing! Although I hope DS never wants a bedtime so early as id never see him on work days when I go back!

Started off with a successful bedtime here- DS fell asleep at 7.20pm whilst DH was reading him Winnie the Pooh so we transferred to cot and were astonished he stated asleep as he's never gone down before 8pm at the earliest before! We got s bit carried away and ordered Chinese thinking we could enjoy a meal together- DH even lit a candle!! DS stayed asleep for an hour until the precise moment we sat down and lifted the first spoonful of chicken and sweet corn soup to or mouths and then he woke screaming like a banshee!!! We brought him down to sit in his bouncy chair so we could eat and he sat beaming at us the little monkey!! Then fed him at 9pm and after he kept dropping off and waking up- took him up to try in the quiet and dark and left him to see if he could settle- he spat dummy out and sucked his thumb for the first time ever and I got all excited that he might actually self settle in to start crying after 10 minutes so DH spent half an hour settling him and now I'm up here redoing it as he whinged again after s few minutes of being left!! I think it's going to be one of them nights!!! Doesn't bode well! See you all at the bar!

kbro79 · 02/01/2016 22:26

Mzzzf I tried to put DS on his side the other night as he also sleeps on his side when on me (as he currently is doing) He just rolled onto his back though. But when we co sleep I often wake to find him on his side. Oops. Shock

Clstow · 02/01/2016 22:33

Not a bad mamma at all MzzF. Agree with Frolic it's all about minimising risk... After coming out the sleepy newborn phase DS was only sleeping for 90 minutes at a time. I was going mad with exhaustion. Tried all sorts. Someone suggested putting him on his front, and that night he slept 8 hours straight. I did a lot of soul searching at the time, but ultimately we rationalised it and he's slept on his front since. Only you (and your DH) can make the decision, but whatever you decide you are deffo NOT a bad mamma. Not at all.

Thanks for the formula info guys, I now think we may be underfeeding the little guy Blush Maybe that explains the dodgy sleep...

Lilydreams · 02/01/2016 22:40

Oh Clstow I should add that DS is the oldest on here I think at 23 weeks tonmorrow so that may be why he has more than yours? I actually thought he should be having more than he is now!

MaGratgarlik1983 · 02/01/2016 22:49

I think they should roughly have 150ml per kilo of weight.

Slowifeandthegrumpydwarfs · 02/01/2016 22:50

Evening all,

Crikey, so much to catch up on!

I am still ebf'ing on demand so have no real idea how much grumpy 2 is taking. She is down to about 5-6 feeds per 24 hours though (depending on whether or not the little minx sneaks in an extra night feed!) lily it's really common with bf'd babies for them to start 'reverse cycling' about now and I assume that would also be the case with ff babies. Basically it's all to do with their increased depth perception / awareness of the world. During the day there is way too much going on for them to settle down to have a decent feed so they tank up at night when it is nice and quiet and they have your undivided attention. Rather than cut down the night feeds could you try either feeding him in a quieter spot during the day, or just offering an extra bottle or two inbetween your normal feed times? That should be enough to gently encourage him to go back to a more civilised eating routine and allow you to continue being pretty much baby-led Smile

frolic have you stopped expressing or are you trialling a mix of ebm and formula? I'd be interested to hear how you go. A friend of mine (who is now onto her 4th LO Shock) on hearing of grumpy 2s bottle strike did suggest I tried formula rather than ebm because she had found that a total change of taste and texture sometimes worked. Hope you had a nice day and the drive was not too hair raising, we were back at the zoo today (our go-to day out when the weather is crap!)

Nap-wise. I have no enforced routine here at all but grumpy 2 does get tired consistently at roughly the same times each day, around 9am, 11:30am and depending on how long the 11:30 one goes for, maybe again at 4pm ish. Some days she has up to 6 hours of daytime sleep, sometimes just 2. Provided she's not miserable I don't really fret about it. She does have a consistent bedtime though (7pm) and that's always her best sleep until about 2am. Unlike with grumpy 1 I do get her up in the morning because we have to be out to do the school run so I'd say to anyone thinking of waking their baby, do it! You won't break them and having a consistent get up time might help them get into a bit of a pattern during the day. It's certainly worked for us.

The sales here are rubbish, hardly anything properly discounted just a whole load of crap heavily discounted to get you in the door. I have bought all my next years wrapping paper though, that's a dwarf house tradition Wink

sianihedgehog · 02/01/2016 22:53

Ugh ugh ugh. Last night we went to bed at half eight and had a great night, including a nearly five hour stretch. Tonight I've tried again to bring bedtime forward to half seven so I can maybe have some time with DP and I'm STILL trying to get DS down. He's clearly exhausted but wakes as soon as I put him down, over and over.

Frolicacid · 02/01/2016 23:33

I hope you get to enjoy your Chineese lily. Ds has a gift for waking up as soon as we sit down to eat.

The reverse cycling thing is so interesting slow. Ds has always been a bugger for feeding out and about, but he is even worse at the moment. He doesn't even ask for food - he's so busy taking it all in. My close friend, who is also a hv, can't get over how active and nosey he is. It's no wonder he feeds half the bloody night. He's on his 3rd feed since falling asleep at 8 now.
I've given up on trying with the ebm at the moment. We're having such little success with getting him to drink anything that isn't fresh off the boob and it feels worse to waste ebm than formula, so we're using formula to 'play' with for now. I definetly think he managed to swallow some yesterday, because tonight he did a really small, but thick and stinky poo. Nothing like the sweet smelling usuals.
We had a lovely day, thank you. The drive there wasn't great as Ds kept waking, but we both slept the whole 2 hours home - which is probably why I've not been to sleep yet.
How was the zoo? I'm very jealous that you live so close.

Fingers crossed he's gone down for you now siani.

nolongerwaitingfornumber2 · 02/01/2016 23:51

Happy new year Mugabeans!

So much to catch up on as only just back from the in laws and they had no wifi or 4G Shock. I think I have at least 12 pages to read to see what I've missed.

I did read the Christmas day posts just now so want to firstly congratulate Fatty on her diamond. Lovely news!!

Feeding here is still v much on demand and nights have got worse with around 4 wake ups all for feeds. Slow, I hadn't heard about reverse cycling but that makes so much sense I think I will try sneaking some extra day feeds in to see if that helps.

DS is v good in the day at playing, napping and feeding with very little upset but at night he won't self settle without the boob. Grr.

When we were away he was in the sling a lot - lots of long walks on the beach - and would do 3 hour stretches of sleep in it but if we're at home and playing he is much more likely to be asleep for 40 mins then have a nice little play.

We have had a little bit of unsupported sitting and a roll over the holidays but mostly he just wants to lie and kick on his playmat or sit in his Bumbo or bouncer. DD never rolled though and still crawled at 8 months so I'm not concerned.

Right am going to read everything I have missed. I don't know if 2016 will be able to top 2015 but wishing you all a very happy one with lots of full nights of sleep!

Tindel · 03/01/2016 05:16

Anyone else up? We had a great success tonight, with J asleep by 8pm! We then have had 2am and 430am feeds. Although am blaming DH for the first one, as he decided to stay up late on the Xbox and "might have" disturbed J, he mumbled at me before going back to sleep - grr!

Still, we had a nice evening just the two of us and J was in a fairly good mood most of the day and charmed DH's friends. We did wake him up from a nap just before 5, which he was mildly annoyed about, but I think it helped bedtime, so am going to stick with that if I can. It feels odd doing it as we are trying to be baby led, but it did seem to make a difference.

In terms of the cot, I actually want to bring it into our room, as there's just enough space for it. J doesn't have a nursery yet, but we're hoping to get some building work done soon to rejig the rooms around and give J a proper bedroom. It will mean him staying in with us for quite a while, but hope it will be worth it.

Right, hoping to get a bit more sleep now

Frolicacid · 03/01/2016 06:19

I've been here pretty much all night 😴

mzzzf · 03/01/2016 06:56

Wooooohooooooooooooooo!!!

FIVE CONSECUTIVE BLOODY HOURS!!!! Shamone your bad selves!

Is this if?! Is side sleeping the way forward for mini mzzzf? Or did she just lure us in with another fluke of longer sleep. Either way it rocks! I did wake up at the 3.5hr mark but fell back to sleep quickly when I realised all was still well.

Hmmmm might have to de-pad her cot and remove the squishy blankets etc. Other side sleepers - what's in your cot? Just bog standard mattress?

I'm very sorry I onl made one bar appearance last night for a feed at 1am but it's the longest stretch she's done in FOREVER! I was due a long one I reckon. 😁

Sleepy caffeine fuelled fist pumps to those in the bog of shit sleep. 👊 Frolic here put it on my tab X

Tindel · 03/01/2016 09:18

Woohoo! Go mini mzzf - you definitely owed your mummy a decent run of sleep! Sounds like side sleeping might be the way to go - hope it continues.

Frolic, sorry to hear you were in the bar so much. DH was moaning about 3 night feeds, but seeing as he is awake for about 5 minutes and then goes back to sleep, am not massively sympathetic. I'm just grateful for a calm crying-free bedtime at a reasonable hour, hoping that will continue.

Slowifeandthegrumpydwarfs · 03/01/2016 09:48

Ah frolic what a nightmare. Plenty of full fat coke for you today (it's my pick me up of choice, has to be icy cold for the full effect). The zoo was good, a nice wet day is the best time to go as it is usually quite empty. There is a huge new indoor enclosure with crocodiles, monkeys and birds in it (not all together mind, mmmm Monkey Snack!) which we hung out in while grumpy 1 played with her Christmas present (a camera) like a mini David Attenborough Japanese tourist Grin This might sound hideous, but take heart in the fact that you can use reverse cycling as a way of combatting bottle refusing. Check out this page (every silver lining and all that Wink) kellymom.com/bf/normal/reverse-cycling/

nolonger definitely try adding extra feeds in / clock watching a bit more during the day. It's worked for both of mine to drag them back into a better feeding pattern. We've managed to get grumpy 2 back to 2 night feeds, last few weeks she had been up every couple of hours 💤. There is good stuff on both reverse cycling and night weaning on the kellymom website.

Finally, WOO HOO mini mzzf. You rock little lady Grin And you too baby tindel Grin

kbro79 · 03/01/2016 10:05

Yay baby tindel and mzzzf. That's great. Sorry about the wake ups Tindel but pleased you got a good bedtime. And mzzzf you deserve that 5 hours so much. Did she stay on her side all night?

DS was on his 2 hourly wake cycle. Hey ho. Might try him on his side tonight.

I think the thing with risk when talking about baby sleeping that is always ignored is the risk of spending all day with a parent who is on the edge of sainty with no sleep. I swear to god if DH hadn't been around at christmas on DS worse nights I would have walked us out in front of a bus or burnt the house down leaving the hob on etc as i was so out of it.

Nolonger welcome back! We wondered if we'd lost you over christmas so great to hear your back.

Slow that's great to know the early morning wake ups have worked for you. We enjoyed our last lie in (as much as you can when you are up every 2 hours) this morning but tomorrow we are getting up. And that totally makes sense about the reverse cycle. DS is distracted by EVERYTHING at the moment.

nolongerwaitingfornumber2 · 03/01/2016 10:10

Thanks for the info Slow. I will do some reading and research. Up every 90 mins from midnight last night. Am zonked. Didn't have anything like this with DD. She had a 5am feed until 10 months then just dropped it and slept through.

Well done mini Mzzf though on a cracking stretch!

Tindel my DH also disturbed the baby coming to bed late too and it was downhill from there!

Zzzzzzzz

FattyNinjaOwl · 03/01/2016 12:31

Really sorry I've not been keeping up with you all. I'm trying to read but I'm too tired. I'm not sleeping, between dealing with Nathan and worrying about DP.
Nathan stole a chocolate biscuit off his sister. They were sat on the couch and he just grabbed it and started chomping. DD was not happy. I had to give her 2 more to make up for it.

We're just back from taking Ds swimming for the first time. We're starting lessons tomorrow so I wanted to go and check out the changing rooms and his reactions to the water with dh before flying solo. I'm not sure if he liked it - Lots of very serious face going on. Nothing like the craziness that he does in the bath at home. He didn't cry and smiled a few times, so not all bad. I'm sure he'll be fine when he gets used to it.

Welcome back nolonger.

Glad you had a good night and that he settled well for you tindel.

Whoop whoop mini mzzf! About time you let your mum have more than 10 minutes sleep in one go. I'm so pleased for you my lovely, I will cross everything that she keeps it up.

Thanks for the info slow. He is a textbook distractable baby by the sounds of it, which is great to avoid meltdowns but not so great to get him fed well in the day. I am going to offer him the boob every 5 minutes today.
The zoo sounds fab. I can't wait until Ds is old enough to make it worth going. I love the thought of grumpy1 and her camera! Bet she had a ball.
Fat Coke is the bomb!

You are so right about measuring the risk of an overtired parent as well kbro. Sorry you were also up every 2 hours. Have you decided to try waking him earlier then?

I hope everyone is having a peaceful Sunday. I'm working my way through some lidl chocolate gingerbread, so life is good!

sianihedgehog · 03/01/2016 13:14

mzzzf we have absolutely nothing except a bog standard sprung mattress in the cot, and DS is in a grobag.

loveandsmiles · 03/01/2016 16:56

mzzzf snap! We had 5hours last night too!! She woke after 3hrs but settled with her thumb in and no boob for another 2hrs - 9pm - 2am, then a feed at 4am and 6am - best night in ages - feel like a new woman todaySmile.

fatty he looks delighted with himself - can't believe he ate a chocolate biscuit and he looks so grown up holding a sippy cup!

Back to school tomorrow - hate the school runSad but will be pleased to get some normality back and to get the house super tidy againGrin. Will miss all the other DCs entertaining babyloves all day - sometimes she just lies on her playmat in the playroom just watching them - they are also good at bouncing the Jumperoo up and down for her as her little legs don't reach the floor yet - will feel ever so quiet not having them all here.

Frolicacid · 03/01/2016 20:04

It's perfectly fine to eat cheese and biscuits for dinner 3 nights in a row, isn't it? 🧀🐭

kbro79 · 03/01/2016 20:26

Frolic I believe it is actually a legal requirement to eat them 3 nights in a row over new year.

Yes we are indeed waking up early tomorrow. The plus side of a bad sleeper is you can trail new stuff without worrying about breaking anything. I can hardly make his sleep worse!! So we'll do and see what happens.

DH and I have had 'words' tonight. Everytime I ask him to take aidan for a bit he says 'yes but first I just need to.....' names something he has had all bloody weekend to do. Tonight it was phone his parents. Obvs don't want to be the bitch DIL that says he can't call them but I don't understand why he didn't do it earlier. He knew I wanted some DS free time to do some stuff on the computer that I needed to do but suddenly he has to call them NOW. Next time it will be something else. Sorry just needed to rant about that. And breathe.

Fatty he is such a cutie!!!

Slow thanks for the kellymom link. I have tried their advice of feeding sleepy baby and seemed to help. DS had a few good feeds. Including one when we were out so that's good. Maybe it will help him......no I don't dare say it. We'll see.

everythingispeachy · 03/01/2016 20:56

Yay mini mzzzf! I put Ds to sleep on his tummy as he startles himself awake on his back. I have done the risk assessment and I am happy with it. Now he can rollover anyway I feel it's not too bad. We just have a sprung mattress and he's in a gro bag.

Fatty what a little cutie, he looks like he enjoyed that.

Frolic I haven't taken ds2 swimming yet. But ds1 was about 4 months old when we started lessons. It is all new to them so they take a while to start showing their enjoyment. You will also get your changing drying routine down to a few minutes in no time.

Loves are fife schools back tomorrow? It's still a bank holiday in Edinburgh and the schools don't go back till Thursday and ds1 starts at his school nursery on friday, sob sob. They grow up so quickly.

Right hoping to drop this midnight/ 1am feed soon but until I can it's now my bedtime. Night night

Clstow · 03/01/2016 21:09

Woooo! Go mini-M! Amazing work. Nothing in DS's cot at all - just him in a grobag. Hope you see similar results tonight.

Nathan is too cute Fatty, we all know how hard it is to resist a chocolate biscuit.

Best of luck for the wake up tomorrow Kbro, and for the school run Love.

Just 3 nights Frolic? Make sure that Christmas cheese doesn't go to waste!

I went to my friend's baby shower today, I was the only one of her friends there who already has a baby and everyone kept asking me heaps of questions. Made me feel v wise and also realise how much I've learnt in 5 months! Also made me a bit nostalgic for that innocent pregnant version of me who had no clue what was about to hit her!

Hope you have a good night all, DP is back to work tomorrow and I'm really going to miss his help during the nights. Best get an early one, zzzzz.

mzzzf · 03/01/2016 21:33

Cheese and biscuits is a perfectly legit dinner. Hope you had some port or wine with it too! Or even a token grape to add a sense of occasion to the meal 😁

Yay to the swimming - you'll have a super night now frolic!

Fatty - choccie biccie for the win. The boy certainly knows what he wants! Cute!

Loves - bet it'll seem silent tomorrow when it's just you and the little ones. But also a little bit nice too?!

Kbro - my DH is a bit similar. He's raving about all these jobs that need doing but then seems to fit in lie ins and bike rides. Makes no sense?! Surely if they're bothering you that much that you're moaning about them then just do it. Blokes are such faffers sometimes!

Right I've gone for side sleeping again. I've taken the big squishy bedding out, maybe to my peril as she's already woken screaming once after rolling back to violently. And now she can't seem to get comfy. Maybe last night was a fluke... 😕
