I don't want to hex myself, but he's slept midnight to 4.45. This is some kind of new record. Just fed him for nearly an hour, and he's dropped back off..Shock I can barely believe it..
It's witchcraft, I bet he plays up like fuck today and I've got shopping to get....but longest sleep ever!

Niffertiti · 24/07/2015 06:55

Thanks so much everyone, brilliant suggestions and really useful - thanks for taking time out from the sleepless nights and night feeds! DH and I are going to attempt an after work shop for baby stuff tonight so it's good to have the list. I'm trying to think of almost everything really - I will be able to get small stuff posted out (and brought out my visiting mums) but it will be a few weeks between realising I need it and its arrival so I figure best to think ahead.

Has anyone used an ergobaby for a sling? My DH really likes it as they are pretty simple (compared to tie-slings) but vvv expensive!

ZylaB · 24/07/2015 07:19

niff I don't know about the ergobaby slings, but it's important to check that the sling you get can hold baby's legs in an M shape (froggy legged), especially early on as it can be bad for their hips otherwise. I'm not one of the uber experts though, so they should be able to tell you hopefully :)

Nessalina · 24/07/2015 08:48

Dropped off the thread! Shock
Checking in, hoping J will let me catch up a bit today. He's got a stinking cold Confused

Nessalina · 24/07/2015 09:14

Just enjoying reading everyone's must haves! Thanks for the tip on the sleepytot Min - just bought one on Amazon! Dummy's are magical sleep inducing things, but now he's weaned at night, waking up three times just to put the damn thing back in is driving me mental!! Grin

I'd say if you're planning on using a dummy - I know they're a controversial one, but I really recommend them - then the Milton mini-sterilising pot is fantastic. Whenever it's not in baby's mouth, pop it in there, and when you need it it's easy to find and its sterilised!

FurryScoob · 24/07/2015 09:53

niff I'd recommend a bed rail, I didn't plan to co sleep but It was the only way I got any sleep in the first few months & the bed rail made me feel a lot safer doing it. Also baby sun cream in case it's not easy to get where your going.

Ladies I have a question which has been bugging me for the last few months. When I had miniscoob my waters went 40 hours before she was born, I was given 2 tablets of antibiotics in the 40 hours but that was it, 12 hours after giving birth I was pretty much forced to go home. Other mums I know & a few of you had antibiotics after birth, is this what is supposed to happen or is it just if you & the baby need them? I know it doesn't matter now, we're both fine but just wondering for next time, I've realised over the last few months my midwife was shite & a lot of things that sould happen didn't. If & when we have number 2 I want to know a bit more about what to insist on.

JuniDD · 24/07/2015 10:04

furry they should have tested your & mini's CRP via blood test, possibly during labour. If they were ok the antibiotics you had in labour will have done the trick. I had a CRP of 158 and had about three IV antibiotics during and after labour (they fucking hurt so you're not missing much). They are extremely over cautious in our trust so what happened to me may not have happened in other places. If it's bugging you it's worth asking for a birth debrief.

niff ergobabys are pretty good. You can watch videos on youtube for how to put them on or try to get to a sling library beforehand as you can try a variety with demo dollies. You have to use a newborn insert which was too much fuss for me. It might be worth getting a Hana wrap (which are cooler) as they are nice with a tiny newborn. If you're in SE Asia the locals will be using mei tais and poedagis so you may, after a while, find you get on with these as they are gorgeous and very easy to use. I am getting quite into mei tais as they are so simple and also very cool.

She got up at 7.50ish and was up until 10.30 when she had a few sucks on the boobie, rolled off and conked out. Easy!

Sorry Furry, no idea, thankfully didn't need them.

Check advice re sunscreen. Used to be not recommended for babies under 6 months. If you are bfing you MUST have Lansinoh nipple cream. And large breast pads such as lansinoh or Tommee Tippee. Cheap ones are crap. Nursing bras?

MicroWil wasn't too bad last night. Unfortunately MiniWil was up being sick over various beds.

WilHarlot · 24/07/2015 10:13

I am not knowledgeable about slings but I do think that the buckles carriers are not great for the first three months. Newborns just don't feel right in them. Ergos are fine, although wouldn't pay extra to get the one which does forward facing. However I tried one and didn't like it. Is there a sling library or meet near where you live where you could go and try some? Have a look at Boba 4g as they have an inbuilt insert for newborns/small babies. I like my Tula but it's best after about 4m, even with the insert. I found wraps a faff but maybe look at mei tais like Juni said or ring slings.

RPopz · 24/07/2015 10:34

I think some trusts are willing to leave 48 hours between waters breaking and delivery - so if you gave birth within that time scale and had no fever or signs of infection they might not have been concerned. Did they take blood from you and S? If so they'll have checked your crp like Juni says....

niff - the Ergobaby is good and comfy but the newborn insert is a total faff. And it's essentially just a little duvet that wraps round baby so gets very warm!! I didn't use it much in the beginning but its coming into its own now minipopz is 6months+. Stretchies are better for newborns - e.g. close caboo, hanababy, jpmbb etc. I second going to a sling library if you can.

RPopz · 24/07/2015 10:34

Hope miniWil is ok? Seems to be a lot of vommy bugs flying around at the mo.

Pisghetti · 24/07/2015 10:50

What they said - soft structured carriers are not good for very little baby backs. I'll be trying BabyPis in her's next week as she's just turned 4 months. I do love a mei tai though. I have wrap straps but you can also get padded straps which look more like a buckle carrier. I'm just getting into woven wraps (have bought three in a variety of sizes) but I go along to the sling meet every two weeks to practise using them - some people just 'get' them but I needed help!

JuniDD · 24/07/2015 11:00

Yes, as popz says I was tachycardic, had a high temp and kept vomiting so clearly ill!

OP posts:
FurryScoob · 24/07/2015 11:51

Thanks for clearing that up juni & popz, someone took blood after I'd had her so I was probably tested then, it's just made me worry after a few friends have been kept in different hospitals for 24 hours monitoring. It gets so bloody confusing when hospitals have different policy's on stuff.

JuniDD · 24/07/2015 12:14

Its weird isn't it. The two maternity hospitals here are quite different, same city but different trusts.

She is napping - hurrah! - so I am packing away the little baby clothes. Sob sob...but she's my big crawling baby now!

Oh yes, my mum weighed her yesterday, just above the 9th on 15lb10. Apparently I was 17lb when I was one so we'll see if she beats me! Not long now...wahhhhhh

OP posts:
WilHarlot · 24/07/2015 12:17

She'll be ok Popz, is lying listlessly on top of me on the sofa. Hope micro doesn't get it as she has no weight to lose.

Just had a thought Niff, look at Lillebaby airflow and kinderpacks as they both have breathable mesh. I wouldn't fancy using the Tula in really hot temperatures, not sure about Ergo.

WilHarlot · 24/07/2015 12:21

Don't say that Juni, that means it's not long until I have to say I'm another year older! Meant to say I saw your video. Super cute! I' m glad you have a tiny tot too as it selfishly makes me feel better.

JuniDD · 24/07/2015 17:12

Sorry wil, it's ages and ages! How is mini feeling now?
It's pissing down here so I strapped her to my back, got the golf umbrella and out my wellies on and went for a walk. She is now asleep as my mum is not here to keep her magically awake. This routine thing is so not me! I may be eating chocolate and drinking tea.

OP posts:
Pisghetti · 24/07/2015 17:12

I thought you were saying Popz was lying listlessly on you for a moment there Wil Confused

I have my first evening out tomorrow and SIL is looking after BabyPis. I'm ridiculously nervous about it Hmm I'm fighting the urge to be that mother who writes a manual for the babysitter who has way more experience with children than me What is particularly weird is that I wasn't like this with DS at all! I think I just figured that as I didn't have a clue what I was doing, no babysitter could be worse Grin

WilHarlot · 24/07/2015 19:14

Alas Popz won't agree to lie listlessly on me Pis Wink . Enjoy your night out. I think I'm more of a worrier this time round too.

I can't do routine either Juni. Haven't even got the baby ready for bed yet. Mini is in the bath. She's eaten ten haribo and half a banana all day poor wee thing.

RPopz · 24/07/2015 19:43

Always room for Haribo Grin

No routine here either.

If I have to lie listlessly on top of anyone, I should probably give MrP first refusal... after 6 months Grin Grin

Minion · 24/07/2015 19:54

I loves me a routine.
Sadly R takes after father.
Sigh

My child has been a frigging nightmare all day long. She's refused all milk and will only gorge on yoghurt... Sadly I bought petit filous and didn't realise it had shit loads of sugar in... Oops.
No wonder she was bit hyper tonight. Probably jitter ing away in her cot.

These bastarding teeth better bastard show up soon.
The bastards.

WilHarlot · 24/07/2015 20:16

Ha every food seems to have something in it that's bad for them I used to get greek yoghurt and put some fruit puree in it to sweeten it up a bit. Just make sure it's full fat stuff.

Are you feeling any more amorous towards MrPopz? (That question is to Popz, not Min, cos that'd be weird).

ZylaB · 24/07/2015 20:23

snort. Grin Grin
