A lovely thread for all the JS Grad Grads to chat feeding, sleep and post-birth STUFF.

Evening all, guess who's in bed...? THANK GOD!!! Last night she didn't go down until 10pm! Guess my "no messing" attitude rubbed off. I just hope she doesn't wake up at midnight...wait & see I guess.

I've just been hitting the paypal (connected to MrJ's money...TEE HEE!) and bought TWO new carriers, a class and some photos of the baby. This going to bed early lark is allllll good. It was my birthday yesterday so I'm feeling rich.

mini I am bfing...as zyla says, you have to do what is best for you & gorgeous micro-mini. It does get easier though and don't overdo it after all you've been through. I didn't feel anywhere near better until six weeks post-birth, when I was able to go out by myself (finally!).

TheBooMonster · 18/05/2015 20:50

whoops! I fell off again! Hope you're all well!

Thanks viroids. Am feeling a lot more positive now the decision has been made and we've been formula feeding all of today. I'm still expressing and giving that to her every other feed or so to help her digestive system get used to the formula gradually.
finally managed to get a good block of sleep earlier and feeling so much better.

Hey boo how's things?

Yy tell us more about Latvia ness.

Sorry about the arse bleeding wil, sounds nasty. Won't the docs do anything about it?

Yay for bedtime juni. Hope she gives you some rest tonight. And happy birthday for yesterday!

Pisghetti · 18/05/2015 22:44

Oh happy birthday Juni!

Wil I spent the whole day dithering between berry and libellula. I think I pissed off MrPis and DS with all the dithering... Went for berry in the end as it was my first choice. Naturally I've been wondering if I preferred libellula today....

Glad you got some sleep Mini. I've been lucky with this one in terms of sleep really but the early days when you're not getting more than an hour or two at a time are really tough.

Had a chat with my dad earlier. He thinks it's a real shame I'm going back to work (next year) and urged me not to get her vaccinated. Seems to forget I had to go back even earlier with DS and he had all his jabs. Mind you he also suggested I didn't register the birth as that would be signing her over to the government so SS could come and take her away at any time. It's fair to say he's a fully paid up member of the tinfoil hat brigade these days Hmm

WilHarlot · 19/05/2015 01:10

I prefer the berry Pis, good choice.

They probably would help Mini but I'm avoiding them as don't want to have my arse inspected Blush .

What did you get Juni?

Totally jinxed it with my 'she's only up once' nonsense. For some reason we've had a 12.30 wake up so I imagine there'll be another in the pipeline. She's starting to bang off the crib a bit so I don't think she'll be lasting another two months in it.

WilHarlot · 19/05/2015 01:10

Oh and happy birthday Juni!

minimooo · 19/05/2015 02:40

Don't blame you wil. I guess if it's not too sore then it might be healing up?

Oh dear pis. I love that registering the birth means signing her over to the government. My mum's a bit like that.

I'm up and expressing and about to take over the night shift from dh. Hope she gives me an easy time of it.

Nessalina · 19/05/2015 02:52

Happy birthday Juni! Smile

They must've traded Wil, J skipped his 12:30 and just woke up now for a feed! Grin I didn't know where I was when I woke up - I'm really sleeping so much better with him in on his own, I hadn't realised I was sleeping so lightly with him next to me.

Mini - we're BFing, but if we'd had the time you had, I'm not sure we would be, tbh. It's bloody hard, and if you or your LO aren't at full capacity it's even harder, so it sounds like you've made the right choice!

Pis, your dad sounds... Interesting! Grin Nod & smile time I reckon. I'm sure you've made the right sling choiceSmile We've enjoyed hiring the Boba Gemini from the sling library, but I don't think we'll be buying one for keeps. I'm too lazy for baby wearing!

Latvia was cool Smile This is probably very outing, but I went to Riga (the capital) with an NCT pal and our two buys, and it a great trip! We were out most days all day seeing loads of stuff, and the babes were a dream, very few complaints Grin Riga is a gorgeous city, very clean, amazing architecture, and lots to see. To compare it to another city is say it's most like Prague, but felt a bit cooler than than, more cosmopolitan. Great food Grin And we got by very comfortably on €40 a day, so very reasonable indeed.
Also, it's very very flat, so fab for buggy walking! Got a cheapy umbrella fold off Amazon and it was fantastic - I almost like it more than my icandy Blush Don't tell DH as one cost 20x more than the other...
Really pleased I went, I was a bit nervous cause of being without DH, with a friend I've only just met, and J teething, it could have all gone wrong, but I loved it!

minimooo · 19/05/2015 03:38

Ah Ness that sounds fab. The prospect of going on holiday at all, let alone without dh, seems impossible to me right now. So I'm in awe! Sounds like a beautiful place to go.

ZylaB · 19/05/2015 08:41

Happy birthday juni

H did 8 hours last night which was fab, but she woke up with a dry nappy! I'm fretting she's dehydrated now coz she's a bit poorly. I fed her loads before she went to sleep but dunno how much she took. Hmm

She seems bright enough though, lots more cuddles and feeds on the sofa today I think.

JuniDD · 19/05/2015 08:50

Thanks for birthday wishes!

zyla babyj woke with a dry nappy once, freaked me right out but it's never happened again (usually she wakes up and they weigh more than her!!)

Why has mrJ decided NOW is the time to tidy up, noisily? Of course, while the baby is asleep! AngryAngry

ness you are selling Riga to me, I want to go tomorrow!

FurryScoob · 19/05/2015 09:15

Latvia sounds great ness

Happy belated birthday juni

pis your dad sounds ace! Smile

glad your finally getting some sleep wil but sorry you still have bum pain. Flowers

mini we're formula feeding, had a bad start to BF with miniscoob a tongue tie & then she started puking after every feed with reflux so life got easier for us both with a bottle!

Miniscoobs 6 months old today, can't believe how fast times going. I want another one but then come on here & remember the sleep deprivation, you guys are brilliant contraception!

WilHarlot · 19/05/2015 10:04

Hahaha we aim to help Furry Grin

At least he's doing some tidying Juni. I am stuck in the middle of tidying hell this morning and it's slow work with two munchkins hanging around.

Riga sounds great. Would love a city break.

ZylaB · 19/05/2015 11:19

Lol furry

Thanks juni we've had a couple of wet nappies now and the second poonami in two days so I'm sure it was just a weird random thing :)

It's awful weather here and H is still a bit snuffly so we're missing playgroup and staying in with the heating on, mum is coming round this afternoon so she can take over facilitating Hs new favourite game of knocking the soft building blocks from the side of the desk we're using as a changing station downstairs. Grin

JuniDD · 19/05/2015 14:53

ha wil. He dies "tidying" but it's always pointless shit. Today was the under stairs cupboard while every other room is piled high with shite. Grrr. But yes, should be more grateful!

Had a lovely morning with NCT buddies. That seems to be going well atm after all my worries.

Glad little zyla has done some good nappies for her mummy!

JuniDD · 19/05/2015 15:11

I also had people do the following; comment on babyj's size (small), tell me to strap her into the buggy, and try to take her off me in a cafe! So weird!

ZylaB · 19/05/2015 17:02

juni I hope you told them all to fuck off! Grin

WilHarlot · 19/05/2015 18:42

Random people Juni? God, folk are strange.

Ah that sounds like my place Juni. The other day MrWil announced he should really cut the neighbour's lawn (not an elderly neighbour). I was like "OR you could tidy up all your shit in our house. I suppose at least you now have a clean cupboard to move all the shit into Grin .

The carrier arrived. MicroWil screamed a LOT. Not sure this is going to work out.

Minion · 19/05/2015 20:28

Right, not fair. I want, nay, need a sleeping 8 hour baby! The last 4 nights have been mental, she started off by waking at her usual 2, bottle, and pissing around blowing raspberries, falling asleep then as soon as her head hit the pillow she dropped her dummy, coughed then woke. This went on for an hour and a half, 3 nights running.
Never done that before. Then last night she did it at 10 (why, always on my shift?), she just wouldn't settle so we left her in her crib chatting away, which turned into crying, which fast turned into sonar scream, seriously, dolphins were wincing.
'Course by then she was past it and inconsolable. And she's generally not a screamer. That lasted an hour, but she didn't fuck about at 3 when she woke, and slept till 6, when she's usually up at 5.
God knows what tonight holds.

Talked to a girl at baby blossom today who said that's what her eldest did when she was about to cut a tooth, after I told her R had a touch of nappy rash for the first time.
It's was when she said 'she did it when she had a cough', that the penny dropped.
Poor mite.

I'm currently researching homemade sensory stuff. Gotta love the pound shop.

FurryScoob · 19/05/2015 21:20

Grin I thought Mr Furry was the only one to randomly clean bits of the house that don't really need doing.

Your not alone minion miniscoob has terrible nights sleep as a tooth comes through, calpol, bonjela & alcohol are the only way to survive!

Just put miniscoob to bed & it's started bloody thundering ggrrrrrrrrrrrAngry

Pisghetti · 19/05/2015 22:58

BabyPis had her first jabs and is NOT a happy bunny. She's had her first calpol too which is giving my ears a short break Confused

Her weight is starting to flatten out. She packed lbs on in the first couple of weeks so jumped from around the 50th centile to over 75th but has now dipped below the 50th again. The HV wants to weigh her more often and I'm really worried we may get a repeat of what happened with her brother. Long story short he ended up FF after four months and I don't want to end up back there.

WilHarlot · 20/05/2015 03:57

If she went up to 75th centile, isn't it just likely she's working her way back down to roughly where she started? Those charts were really not made for bf babies. We started off around 50th and then dropped to below 9th. HV talked of formula top up but I said no because I felt like she was fine - hydrated, had some chub on her, generally well. I also had the backup excuse of her not taking a bottle anyway. Haven't had her weighed in a few weeks but I bet she's starting to rise again as she's eating loads more. I wouldn't worry as long as she seems well and I doubt weighing more often is going to do anything other than stress you out. Stand firm! and maybe phone la leche league or someone for advice if you're worried.

Ha I spent ages last time making/getting sensory stuff, all of which was completely ignored. Only two things she was interested in were moving lights and sparkly sequin blankets. Oh actually and things which light up and slowly change colour.

kellymom.com/health/growth/growthcharts/

Can't do a proper link on the app but you can copy and paste. This is really useful.

Nessalina · 20/05/2015 04:37

We had J weighed at his 6 week check, he was 50th centile, and we had BFing well established by then, so that was that, I haven't had him weighed since. I figured I don't need to know! So long as he's happy, healthy, and growing out of his clothes at the right rate, I figured all weighing him can do is stress me out. And I certainly don't need anybody making me feel crap if he goes a few weeks with only a slow gain. One of my NCT friends goes religiously every week to weigh her little girl, and it's like she's going to weight watchers or something, she gets genuinely nervous about it! She had a HV try to persuade her to do top ups at one point, but luckily she held firm. It seem to me that that's what weigh-ins are for: so HVs can suggest top ups! Grin What would they do otherwise eh?

Nessalina · 20/05/2015 04:41

Good link Wil Smile
