A lovely thread for all the JS Grad Grads to chat feeding, sleep and post-birth STUFF.

Roll call please ladies and perhaps add the number of slings and buggies you have acquired at the time of posting... wink

Ah Juni they do pick their moments...

What did you order Wil? I'm drooling over some Diva Milano mei tais and I'm probably going to order one before my sensible head catches on.

WilHarlot · 16/05/2015 15:13

Ah no Juni! That sucks, what a rascal.

Pis they're gorgeous, go for it! I will post a pic on fb once it arrives. There wasn't much choice unfortunately, they are pretty hard to get hold of. Hope I don't get buyers remorse.

minimooo · 16/05/2015 21:31

Oh no, sorry to hear that juni

Ftm question: E has just started to projectile vomit after every feed (just started a couple days ago). It happens with breastmilk and formula - is that normal? Is it likely that she's just overeating by accident? Or does it sound like reflux?

WilHarlot · 16/05/2015 22:08

It's unlikely she's overeating breastmilk enough to continually projectile vomit. Usually if they're taking too much at the boob it's because they're sore and comfort eating imo. Sounds like reflux. How's her weight gain? Does she seem uncomfortable or a happy chucker?

minimooo · 17/05/2015 01:03

Thanks wil. Weight gain is excellent - about 3 oz a day (last weighed Thursday). But she is quite windy and she chokes on my boob a lot. If taking a bottle we have to let her take only 5 sucks a time and rest her in between. It's as if both bottles and boob are too fast for her? Been giving her quite a lot of infacol to bring wind up.

minimooo · 17/05/2015 01:06

It's weird because it's only just started happening the last couple days. She never really puked before, apart from a bit of posseting.

JuniDD · 17/05/2015 04:40

Morning! we're up for the day. FML. Angry Angry

KatoPotato · 17/05/2015 04:48

Checking in for the first time. And what a time it is too!! Will rtft and catch up. I assume one handed typing errors are gracefully accepted here?

JuniDD · 17/05/2015 08:28

We love a typing error. Just up again as thankfully got her to go back down. This shit sleep thing is no fun and I have more sympathy than ever for people dealing with it the whole time. Two weeks and I'm fed up!

WilHarlot · 17/05/2015 09:35

It often doesn't surface for a while Mini. Weight gain is great though. Do you have a very fast let down? Maybe try pumping for a minute before feeding and see if that helps?

Been up since 4.45 too Juni. She went back to sleep but I couldn't get off.

WilHarlot · 17/05/2015 09:36

Hi Kato!

ZylaB · 17/05/2015 09:38

H has got her first cold! Poor snuffly snorty thing, she wants to be upright even more than normal now.

Hey kato one handed typing at silly hours is pretty normal :)

juni poor you with the shit sleep :(

mini if your let down is quite forceful can you pump just a little bit to get the milk going before giving her the boob, or hand express to start it off? It may help her?

wil I want to see this sling! Our new sling party trick is feeding in it, I feel so clever lol!

ZylaB · 17/05/2015 09:39

Cross post with wil about the expressing before feeds, glD we agree though hehe

minimooo · 17/05/2015 10:30

Thanks wil and zyla, I do have a fast let down so I'll try pumping first if i'm engorged. Thank you.

No projectile vom since yesterday evening! Result! Hopefully it was a one-off but will keep my eye on it. Not sure how I'd cope with a reflux baby if that's what it's like.

Hi kato! How are you? Are you managing to get up and about?

Poor little thing zyla, hope she gets better soon.

Hope you can get some sleep juni

Minion · 17/05/2015 17:17

Hi gals.

Hi kato!
Weird bf question.. What exactly is 'let down '?
We're in the midst of trying to persuade her to drop a night feed... It', eR, interesting...
God I'm knackered.
Anyone got any spare matchsticks?

JuniDD · 17/05/2015 17:58

My understanding is it's when the milk in the back if the breast comes down in one go to the front. I never used to feel it. Now it prickles like a mofo and at weird tines is the swimming pool.

She's just fallen asleep. I do not understand seven months at all!!

JuniDD · 17/05/2015 18:06

I should add that fast let down = milk spraying everywhere and it's really hard for tiny babies to feed and can make them windy . It gets easier as they get bigger.

Minion · 17/05/2015 21:51

Ohhhhhh! Have you seen bad neighbours? Like on the boob scene, surely not?
Eeek

Someone else I know said 7-9 months was quite hard ttoo. I'm finding 4-5 a Bitch. She's learnt to squeal and that dropping things over her high chair means we pick it up again.. Joy.
Also she's grrring as she's getting frustrated with the lack of movement she has. That's fun...

Nessalina · 17/05/2015 23:24

Hey viroids, how is everyone? Smile
I dropped off the thread there! Been on my holidays - Latvia would you believe! Grin It was rather fab actually, and J was a star, let me do lots of sightseeing!

Need to catch up, but Congrats to the the newest Grad Grads! Smile

Nessalina · 18/05/2015 06:12

Epic catch up!
Really glad to hear that Micro is sleeping better Wil, you were sounding at the end of your tether for a while there!
J had a vomming issue very few weeks for a while Mini, but he was always a 'happy puker', he'd chuck up hugely but no tears and often an infuriating smile which I think meant he was just eating too much in one sitting. It seemed to happen when he was going through a growth spurt, like my boobs were trying to catch him up and going too far! I've always had a little but if oversupply, only just stopped wearing breast pads 6 months in!
Pis - I'm a bugger for forgetting which side I'm up to, but I sleep very still, so now after a night feed I sleep on whichever side I need to feed from next IYSWIM? It also means the bigger boob is the one getting a bit more support from the mattress rather than dangling free Grin

J hit 6 months last weekend, so he's gone into his own room Sad I'm such a weed I really miss him! Hand was forced by the Bednest rental coming to an end, which was good really or I'd have had him in with us forever! He's getting on prettywell though. He's waking quite a bit (12, 2:30, 5:30, up at 7:30 most nights)but I sleep so much better in between feeds so it feels ok really! We've started BLW very slowly, so hoping once he gets the hang of solids that he'll start to sleep a bit better.
I'm off to the seaside today! Smile

Pisghetti · 18/05/2015 09:27

My let down makes me wince. Happens at inappropriate times too - MrP needs safety glasses to give me a cuddle. One of my friends breastfed her first to 20 months and is now up to 5 months with her second and has never felt it.

Glad you had a lovely time Ness! Awww to big J moving out. I'll really miss BabyPis when the time comes but she'll probably sleep better. Our noise disturbs her.

I ordered one Wil! I also ordered a wrap for a friend of mine - we're sharing shipping costs and she is going to tell her hubby she got it as a trade. I'm a sling mule.

minimooo · 18/05/2015 11:46

Sounds like a lovely holiday Ness! And thanks for the vomming reassurance.

I've actually just decided to switch from bf to formula. My body just cannot heal from the labour and birth with the constant drain of bf. Also, it's making me really sad and exhausted and I keep crying over her when I'm feeding. I just can't keep it going any more Sad
Has anyone else done the same or a you all bfing?
Sorry I'm being crap at interacting and just being a moany old questions asker.

ZylaB · 18/05/2015 15:42

mini Im bfing but cried over it for ages because she wasn't feeding properly. I still worry over it and have ups and down. You need to do what's best for you mini, happy mummy = happy baby. Out of my nct group half of us are bf and half are ff, all the babies are coming along fine!

ness glad you had a good holiday!

pis my let down makes me wince too but only very briefly now.

minimooo · 18/05/2015 16:47

Thanks zyla Smile

WilHarlot · 18/05/2015 19:45

Don't feel bad mini, it's not right for everyone and you had such a traumatic time in labour by the sounds of it. I think Min and Cookie bottle feed and I can't remember about Furry. There's no right way to do it - all about having happy babies ignores the screaming in the background from starving, over tired baby.

Tell us more about Latvia Ness.

Ooh well done Pis. Which one did you get - they're so pretty. My carrier arrived today but I was out so will have to drag my arse to the post office now.

Still having arse bleeding issues but it's not as sore so choosing to ignore it...

Ness I'd be right stroppy with all those wake ups. We're pretty much at one a night now but I struggle to get back to sleep at all after it.
