Today we tried puréed pear- it won't down really well! The water supply cup not so much Grin
For those further on weaning or with older children: when do you introduce finger foods? I've let her hold the spoon and feed throw it at her neck herself. Taking it very slowly for now.
Good luck tonight everyone, hope we all get more than a few hours kip.

Igottastartthinkingbee · 23/03/2015 23:32

Hi munday, I introduced finger foods more or less straight away. None of it really with the intention of getting eaten, more so he could learn different textures and improve his hand eye coordination (which was a bit behind because he was prem). I did a mix of purée food and finger food. My mother in law was complelty horrified by ff!!! The sight of DS chewing on a bit of cucumber or toast or whatever sent her into meltdown!

ohthegoats · 24/03/2015 08:10

I'm planning on not really doing puree at all, so just finger food. We've not started weaning yet, but have given her bits and pieces to play with like cucumber and carrot already. I was just planning on giving her a version of whatever I'm eating.

ohthegoats · 24/03/2015 10:38

At this age, if they wanted to sleep on their tummy, and slept better on their tummy, would you let them without some sort of fancy monitor?

Igottastartthinkingbee · 24/03/2015 10:44

Yes goats, if baby is comfortable and only on a mattress (ie no pillows/duvets for baby's face to get suffocated by). I'm all for leaving the baby to sleep if they're safe and comfy! Wish mine would do it!!!

Igottastartthinkingbee · 24/03/2015 10:46

I always put her down on her back btw. She gets herself onto her front every time and she can lift her her head clear of the mattress.

ohthegoats · 24/03/2015 12:39

She pushes her face into pillows to get to sleep.. grrr.

But, just heard that her bedroom has had the plastering finished, so I can do decorating next week, then she'll be in her own cot (YAAAAAAAY) even if it starts off only a few hours a night.

Igottastartthinkingbee · 24/03/2015 12:56

Can you substitute pillow with a muslin? So it's breathable? My ds still sleeps with a muslin now but when he was a baby it was always in his face!

MundayCakes85 · 24/03/2015 16:19

Afternoon all- Goats I think trying to substitute the pillow for something safer is a good idea if she sleeps on her tummy. E loves putting stuff (gloves, socks, toys) on her face.
Today we tried carrot/ swede mash- mixed reviews and a tiny piece of toast- got ripped up and sucked Smile
Sazzle/ STIGZ etc how are you going with the weaning?

STIGZ · 24/03/2015 17:23

Woo-hoo Smile. I have enough holidays to take June off so i officially go back to work after the summer break in august Grin

Weaning is going ok apart from she does not seem to like fruit at all, much prefers vegetables! Not tried toast or anything yet, so paranoid Hmm just soft boiled veg as finger foods just now, i need to be braver but will try toast etc nearer 7 months i think

We are being careful with things like toast because of allergies...so far he has enjoyed finger foods like sweet pot, butternut squash, baby sweet corn, avo, cucumber, banana and carrot. Apple seemed to make his bum sore? I'm doing some baby rice alongside with my breast milk just so he's used to a spoon as well... Soon I'll make that more lumpy porridge. He's really enjoying it all. I did just purée with my first ds and although I find the choke factor a little stressful sometimes it's nice watching him enjoy his food!
I need to be careful with dairy, soy and egg and maybe other things but for now it's all good.

MundayCakes85 · 24/03/2015 19:18

Wow Sazzle you've tried lots already! It must be hard with all the allergies though. We've only been doing 1 meal at lunch but when she hits 6 months we'll do more as there'll be less sterilising which I find a real chore.

Buttwing · 24/03/2015 20:35

Grrr I wrote a big post before and lost it. I'm thinking of weaning babywing a couple of weeks early his feeding had gone through the roof, between 6.30 last night and 7 this morning he had 36oz of milk!
I'm going to give it a week incase it is just a blip.
sazzle your post makes me get excited I love weaning.

I just had a nosey over on the pregnancy boards god I'm glad I'm not pregnant anymore!!

MundayCakes85 · 24/03/2015 21:28

Buttwing your baby had 36oz overnight?!? That's mental! How did he manage all that? Shock
TMI question: anyone not had a period yet? I'm BFing and on the mini-pill. Just had a panic in the bath when my stomach twitched- I'm definitely not pregnant but it made me worry Grin

Buttwing · 24/03/2015 21:43

munday it ridiculous isn't it I thought he was going to explode! He had 8oz at 6.30, he woke at 7.30 and Had another 8oz, 8oz at 11, woke at 3 and had 6oz, and another 6oz at 7 this morn. And he's fed really well all day too, little piglet Grin

FATEdestiny · 24/03/2015 22:23

I've been weaning for a week now (DD is 6 months in 2 days time). Already on 3 meals - lunch and dinner of which are 3 courses (savoury puree, yoghurt or fruit pudding and some kind of finger food).

She's still on more milk than is recommended on the SMA tin, on top of all her solids.

I had great plans on taking things slowly (food is just for fun for the first 12 months). All the best laid plans... Pah!

The 'baby lead' aspect of DDs weaning appears to be that she wants more, more, MORE!

What with 5 or 6 bottles a day and 3 full meals, fitting in all the feeding around her daytime naps is proving a challenge. I feel like I am back to the newborn days of DD spending all her time either feeding or sleeping!

Buttwing · 24/03/2015 22:32

fate that's one of the reasons I'm holding off! Grin

Hopefully all this feeding means he may have put on a bit of weight by the time he gets weighed next week and the hv will be happy!

ohthegoats · 25/03/2015 08:55

I think we're going to start too - I was really adamant about holding off until 6 months exactly, but it's only 2 weeks early, and she was 2 weeks late, so it's not as if it's insanely early.

We had three weeks of AWFUL sleep, then a whole 9 nights off with feeding every 3 hours instead of every 45 minutes... but the last 2 nights it's started again. Eating every 45 minutes from 11pm - 3am every night.

I can't do that anymore, and weaning isn't going to make anything worse in terms of sleep for me and whinging from her. We'll start slowly and just see.

I too had the pregnancy panic - but I've had 2 periods now, and am massively relieved that I'm not pregnant again/ever will be pregnant again.

BettyJudy · 25/03/2015 09:31

Just had the copper coil fitted. Ouch ouch OUCH but only for 30 seconds or so, then thats it! For the next ten years! Over quickly and definitely worth it... And this coming from the woman who had a non medical c-section as too wimpy to give birth.

Had it before and was fine, periods a bit heavier. After having baby betty, thought i'd just go on a low dose pill for a bit to let my inside gubbins have a break - YAK, headaches, nausea, could not stop eating which, frankly, was just an inconvenience. So back on the coil and glad for it.

BettyJudy · 25/03/2015 09:33

No siblings for baby betty.made the decision to stick with one and will make a massive effort to have loads of her little friends round for tea and holidays, and will get a dog at some point.

ohthegoats · 25/03/2015 09:51

I'm going to try and convince boyfriend to get the snip - he mentioned it at Christmas, but it hasn't been discussed since. To be honest we're not having enough sex to worry about it right now - condoms are fine. Once we're back in the same room I expect that'll change.

I've had coils for the last 15 years, they are great, but I just don't want to get one again at the moment. I'm done with my bits being messed around with.

Just gave the child the same breakfast as me - plain yoghurt and banana - she was all over it. I think probably we've waited long enough... boo... more clearing up of mess!

sazzlehopes · 25/03/2015 10:03

Yes the mess of weaning is hard but I enjoy watching there faces try new stuff... munday he's trued quite a but but really stuff I've been cooking anyway. Just sort of throw him a bit if whatever is for dinner and then baby rice mixed with bm for brekkie. He's eating twice a day some mush and something to hold/throw on the floor! We aren't doing pudding really, I don't want him to get used to sweet food after savory and we can't do plain yog because of his allergies.
goats like you I was determined to wait but afer the worst 5 months sleep ever and with LO showing no signs of sleeping longer than 2 hours and feeding at all those times and him not even being able to have formula I thought weaning can't make it worse! It hasn't made it better as I suspected but it's no worse either!

ohthegoats · 25/03/2015 10:19

I'm sure half of our sleeping problems are the sleeping arrangements at the moment. We don't have space for a cot in the bedroom at the flat we're living in, and she just doesn't sleep at all anymore in the bedside crib - it's too narrow for her flapping around. So, she's in with me. Every time I move around, she wakes up.. and vice versa. It's been handy with the sleeping problems to feed lying own etc, but I think it's becoming more of a problem than a bonus. I've put her in the cot over at my mum and dads house for naps and she's totally fine. We're going to start moving back on Friday, reckon we'll be in by Monday (there is a lot of clearing up to be done as we go.. building dust everywhere), so we can start playing in her own room as of next week.

STIGZ · 25/03/2015 11:00

Yay betty for being brave! No worrying for 10 years!

I have just had my first real period on the coil, its Suprisingly lightHmm dont know if its normal or not ? Back for a check up next week i think so will ask then.

The weather has been lovely here and its spurred me on to get healthy & a bit more toned for my holiday which is less than 8 weeks Confused i already see the difference from moving more & cutting out bread, crisps & fizzy juice, so hopefully with these small changes i feel a bit more confident in a bikini in May.

Good luck with weaning everyone, I'm having good days & not so good days but her teeth are bothering her and she has a cold so its to be expected i suppose, she's not bothering with her milk today either which i panic about Sad

I'm having the copper coil fitted in a few weeks so it's good to hear good things about it. I have to go and have swabs first wait for the results then have it fitted when I get the all clear. Did you guys have to do that to? It seems a bit long winded and a bit of a pita but I suppose they have to check.
Dp is driving me mad he is like a dog on heat he is always like this when I start feeling back to normal after having a baby.
He keeps trying to convince me that the withdrawal method is a safe contraception method Hmm do I look like a 16yr old virgin?!!
