There's a possibility he might be a bit under the weather as me and DH have had colds... which might make him more sleepy. I dunno.

ZylaB · 01/03/2015 14:16

I've decided I'm stopping trying to feed her every 3 hours if she doesn't ask for it now. She refuses to take anything if she isn't hungry, even if she just wants to wait 10 or 15 mins, and feeds well when she asks for it. I know it was because she was new and little, but she seems to know her mind now with feeding and doesn't often go much longer than 3 and a half hours anyway, often no more than 2 hours in the day so I'm trying to stop obsessing over it!

ZylaB · 01/03/2015 14:17

Hope he's not poorly popz!

Hi, I've another complete beginners question I need help with please! :)

I feel so much better when I get out of the house with H and have found a few groups nearby, a bf group on mon and a couple of baby groups on a wed and fri, but I want to do something a bit more directed, if you know what I men. Does anyone recommend baby massage, or anything else? I want to start taking her swimming in a couple of months, but my local pool doesn't seem to do it for under 2s, what's the usual minimum age for babies in groups? Also (can you tell I don't have a clue...?) what do they wear in the pool? Some sort of waterproof nappy type thing? And would she need a wet suit, being little?

Thanks :)

JuniDD · 01/03/2015 16:22

Baby massage is great zyla. I hosted a class here for four weeks and it was a lot of fun. DD really liked it but some babies hated it. A lot of groups don't start til they're six months (sing & sign) so I'm just cutting myself some slack and enjoying seeing friends, hanging out at home for a while. Lots of groups to run around to when she's a toddler after all! She sounds like my DD with the feeding. It's a bit nervewracking at first isn't it, but good she knows her own mind!

wil, I've been thinking about your question re bedtimes. I just took her up when I wanted to go to bed at the beginning and always put her down to catch some sleep myself, even it was only 10 mins. That's evolved into me taking her up around 6.30, feeding her sitting up in bed with the lights down then putting her down asleep about 8pm. Then I go down for a couple of hours and come back up and go to bed myself. That sort of naturally happened about 10-12 weeks, I think.

RPopz · 01/03/2015 17:00

Waterbabies/ puddle ducks type things you can from birth I think. They are £££ though! You can get little wetsuits for them - though if the session is in a heated pool I don't think they need a full suit. You can get swim nappies - and some places make them wear two normal nappies as well! Shock My leisure centre does a swim session once a week for 3 months to 5 years. Its only about 4 quid a session but the pools not heated and there's no coaching or anything. Might be worth seeing if your local pool does anything similar?

RPopz · 01/03/2015 17:02

We're doing Daisy Tinies as well Zyla - which is a bit of singing, massage and gentle movements. It's very relaxed and nice Smile Maybe your Daisy instructor does it too? They have to be 6 wks to start

willywallace · 01/03/2015 17:02

Ok thanks for advice. I've been keeping her downstairs so I can go up and nap and also so that any crying doesn't wake MiniWil but maybe it is too stimulating for her. Will have a think.

Zyla baby massage can be good but as Juni said, some babies don't like it. Baby sensory is ok and I think they can probably get something out of it after about 8 weeks. The classes are a bit hit or miss I found. Daisy birthing do a class which I think Popz goes to that is based around massage. Also there are franchises like Hartbeeps, jo jingles, babyband, you can get some kind of mother/baby yoga thing. Swimming is great. Normally here, council pools have mother and baby swim sessions which are free but unstructured. Usually they sing a few songs and put some toys out and then you do your own thing. Waterbabies do (expensive) lessons from birth but sometimes local swim companies do lessons cheaper - maybe check Netmums local pages. I would get a wetsuit with little sleeves for a tiny. I will hunt out photo of miniwil in her's on fb for make of one we had if you want. It really does double the amount of time they can spend in water - which may only be about ten minutes the first time if they're really little. A warning though. After the first time I took MiniWil, she had diarrhoea for about 3 or 4 weeks afterwards. Obviously picked something up. She wasn't ill in herself but may be good idea to wait until you're happy about H's weight gain just in case.

Sorry for essay.

ZylaB · 01/03/2015 17:47

Ok, I think I'll leave it a little while for swimming :)

Unfortunately my local daisy lady doesn't do the tinies :( my surestart does baby massage though, so I'll look into that! I think it's mostly for me to get out do I'll stick mostly to baby groups for coffee and chats to save a fortune until she's a bit older.

Thanks for the advice :)

cookielove · 01/03/2015 20:09

Definitely do the massage now while she is little I did it with E a couple weeks ago and he was to big for it. He wanted to play and interact not lie there and be pampered Hmm

We have just started waterbabies and he loves it, there are a couple of diddy ones in the class and they are all wetsuited. E is chunky so is fine. He has to wear a swim nappy and a happy nappy on top.

We also do sing and sign I think it is OK, but I am crap at remembering to sign I have managed to make lots of new friends through these groups so yay!

E is on food now and goes down between 7 and 8 still not sleeping through but soon I feel.

Guess who's sat watching Sarah & Duck with her daddy...? Fed her downstairs and by the time I took her up to her cot she was wide awake and I felt mean leaving her in it awake to go downstairs for my dinner. Oh well, she's pretty happy and it's quite nice all hanging out of an evening! Back to the routine tomorrow!!!

ZylaB · 01/03/2015 22:15

Ok, def looking into baby massage tomorrow, I'm at the surestart for a mw appointment anyway, so I'll see what they do :)

I fancy some sort of baby signing, but I'd need to know if it's makaton or BSL, as I know some BSL and think I'd mess it up if it's makaton lol

JuniDD · 01/03/2015 22:31

Hope you find something nice, zyla.

Sing & Sign is Makaton and there's a BSL franchise but sadly not where I live (I got level 1 a few years ago).

So, I took her upstairs and lay her in her cot and hoped she'd fall asleep. She grizzled a bit so I picked her up...and she covered both of us in vomit. Sad. Showers all round and another feed she is down. Phew. Off to bed myself although just started reading "H is for Hawk" and now want to read all of it. Must sleep though!

willywallace · 01/03/2015 23:17

Ah why won't this child take a bottle from MrWil? So infuriating.

Minion · 02/03/2015 02:10

Morning!

Really, early good morning.
I'm up. we're taking it in shifts tonight. 2 hours each, llucky us.

I've decided to ditch the new milk. I personally don't think she ha a cows milk intolerance but more because in the last 2 days she has slowly reduced what she was eating.
Yesterday was bad. She'd give up after 80ml. To the end she had a third of what she was supposed to have all day.
Over just fed her the normal milk and she has wolfed 180mls in no time!

Docs today for her first set of jabs and to talk about the new milk.

She's now happily snoring in my arms, probably just happy she has a belly of milk to be fair.

ZylaB · 02/03/2015 04:46

Oh min bless, you're not having an easy time of it at the moment!

willywallace · 02/03/2015 06:05

What's the milk called Min?

I am going to make a proper effort to go dairy free, I'm so crap.

We got another five hour block and she was asleep by half twelve which is mildly better than yesterday.

Minion · 02/03/2015 07:37

Aptamil pepti 1 Wil
If you get it you may want to introduce it slowly, adding an ounce to other milk etc. I've 2 full tubs here, unopened, it's a shame you're not in Cheshire.

willywallace · 02/03/2015 08:45

I'm not convinced she'd take anything out of a bottle as she hardly even takes the bm but it might be good to have an option if I need it. I will NOT eat dairy today - you might need to help me out girls.

RPopz · 02/03/2015 09:54

Eek, good luck wil!

Minipopz won't take a bottle full stop. Awkward bugger. I hate expressing to be fair, but I was kinda hoping to go to a friend's leaving do at the end of the month...

I need to go out and its SNOWING. Eurgh.

ZylaB · 02/03/2015 11:45

Midwife appointment in 45 mins, hoping she's got back to, or close to, 6lb! :)

JuniDD · 02/03/2015 13:08

Hope mini-zyla has chubbed up nicely. xx

wil is it definitely cow's milk intolerance? If you do give up dairy make sure you're taking a good supplement with calcium etc.

willywallace · 02/03/2015 14:46

No not definitely but the only way to know is to go off it and see. MiniWil has similar issues which is why I think it's likely.

Fx Zyla.

Minion · 02/03/2015 15:05

So I talked to gp, we are sticking with the new milk for another week but knocking off the gaviscon.
Jabs were traumatic though!

For the first time today she has also shown an interest in her play mat! Yay

cookielove · 02/03/2015 20:14

Zyla how did she do?

Not much to report here, E is feeding well loves his grub :) has another cold (boo)

And can sit up un aided for about 2 mins or so :)
