Hi All! It is quiet on here now, but at least I can catch up on posts easier!!
Rodeo - have a fab birthday tomorrow!!! Grin
T is rolling all over the place, but he too seems to have forgotten how to get back from his front to his back! (which is odd since this is the direction he rolled in first!)
He has been on baby rice for 2 weeks now, tried him on some pear on Saturday - he loved that. Introduced carrot tonight, but think might have got the pureeing a bit wrong cos it was quite lumpy!! Blush Do I need to mix the carrot with milk before I puree it?? So it goes more liquidy iyswim? please help!! poor mite nearly choked on my lumpy carrot Shock

Hope everyone else is ok, Diege hope work is going well. It now feels like I've never been away!

Speak soon

B&T

tessasmum · 02/05/2006 21:03

Evening all!

Going to try and catch up but don't hold your breath, wriggly baby on lap trying to attack keyboard Smile
I have been reading but so addled with sleep deprivation that I haven't managed to post much.

BEKS - glad Thomas' day went so well, you really sounded on a lovely high, hope it lasts.

Rodeo - re 20/20 vision, you get more long-sighted as you get older so short-sightedness has been corrected, unfortunately you will at sometime (though probably not for ages if you are only going to be 28 on Weds!) start to become long-sighted. Happy Birthday by the way, just in case I don't get on tomorrow.

Loads of movement here, Ash can get himself round the floor with real purpose now and managed to get himself headfirst into the flowerbed twice at the w/e Shock He arches his back and pushes with his heels, usually 2-3 'bounces' at a time. Add the rolling onto his tummy (though not back again!) and we have serious movement!! Tessa kept calling for me today as he got into more and more things - need to clear the shelves under the coffee table tonight!

Nova - has she rolled over again? Ash did it once then took 4 weeks to do it again though as you can see there is no stopping him now!
Lovely, lovely pictures.

LOL at you and 'puree militant'! What concoctions are you giving her now? Must admit that I've got a bit bored with vegetable or fruit surprise (ie getting Tessa to pick out a selection of ice-cubes!) and am starting to make 'meals' - veg and lentil soup, leek and potato soup and a tomato (and carrot!) sauce so far. Have been adding cooked rice to stuff every now and again and mashing rather than whizzing most of the time as he seems to being doing well on the chewing front. Also had our first meal yesterday when everyone ate the same thing - mushroom risotto. Thought I would have to thin Ash's down but it disappeared as it was Shock
Bear - how does GF approach weaning?

ChaCha - that cry is awful isn't it? Haven't really had one from Ash yet though he has added aa 'I have shuffled so far back that my head is jammed against the speaker/table/sofa' cry to his repertoire (!)

Diege - I went to the local Chinese herbalist about Tessa's excema, got some cream that cleared it up in 2 weeks and its never been back. Went again recently for my excema/dermatitis, got a different cream which has taken longer to work but nasty itchy stuff nearly gome now.

L&Smum - we've tried the Ashton and Parsons teething powders which seem to have worked quite well. Tessa never really had any bother teething so its all new to us too and not very nice.
Well done on tooth Thomas - we are all dribble and no action here still!

Haven't finished but baby needs his bed and computer in same room.
Night night

GarfieldsGirl · 02/05/2006 21:32

Evening everyone Smile

DP was only gone a few hours, so not much peace for me today! He's getting all excited about putting jeans on tomorrow, and is now counting down the weeks 'til he can have a bath (or shower). It'll be almost exactly a year when he finally does, smelly Wink.

Rodeo - happy birthday for tomorrow, hope you have a good day xx

Sean's started rocking on all 4's today, so I'm guessing it won't be long until he's motoring around the room. This is all new territory for me, but at least it means I have to hoover everyday. Grin

Rodeo - glad you asked about the 'gap' thing. Don't worry you're not the only one who doesn't understand, but I was too embarrassed to ask Blush. My guess is the same as yours re 'front bottom'. Nova, please enlighten us Grin.

BEKs - I'm keeping everything crsossed for you that Ben gets the school place that you're hoping for. Owen got our frst choice, an its a great feling when the confirmation letter comes through.

Diege · 02/05/2006 22:10

Evening!!! GG, DH has just been asking what I was laughing at 'Is it some kind of in joke?' (my reply 'GG's front bottom' - snigger, snigger!!Grin)Wow TESSA, sounds like you have a little toddler on your hands there! Bet it's hard to remember him as a newborn! Thanks for advice on excema, have a chinese herbalist in town, so def. worht a try if other hints don't help [smiule].BROWNIE: with carrot I just used to push it through a sieve with a spoon. I do recall friends adding milk though to get over the lumpiness problem, so might be worth a try. WE're still at baby rice stage here, which she actually really like Shock. Will add some fruit next week Smile; am broadly following GF's weaning stuff, as it's dead simple Smile.
Yep, feels like I've never been away from work too Smile, and am pleased that I have my day 'off' tommorrow, and also can get them early on Friday from nursery, so feeling a lot more 'balanced' re: home/work.
Say hi to Laura for me RODEO - hopefully she will have more comfy shoes on Grin!!Have a brilliant day tommorrow; sounds great, all those meals out Smile. The letter should arrive tommorrow btw (would have sent a birthday card if I'd known!); girls have stuffed bits in, so just to warn you in advance!!
Right, quick read of mags, then bed for me Smile
Speak tommorrow! (all day if I fancy!!)
Diege Smile

novadandypowder · 02/05/2006 22:20

Diege, I'm glad you're with me on the childish sense of humour Grin. My friend is a teacher and she finds it really hard to keep a straight face when the kids fart Grin Grin.

I'm bored with it too Tessasmum, though today she had lumpy lefty over roast dinner which I expected her to gag at but she enjoyed it. Our food isn't really suitable for babies most of the time though, so can't wait til we can be a bit more adventurous with her. Got some jars today as thinking we may have to take some on holiday with us, but spent hours chosing the ones that were organic/no GM/ no added fillers or oil. I was surprised that a lot of them are made with sunflower/corn oil so avoided them.

ChaCha · 02/05/2006 22:37

Came online thinking i'd never catch up, how strange, it's just so quiet. I too miss Londoner and Enthusia's posts.

BoB - LO was 5mths today, 16lbs, back to to the centile he was born on, hurray! He has been so lovely today I could eat him :)
OMG at finding O on the floor. You really do have to have eyes on the back of your head innit?
My LO puked when in door bouncer this evening and was sliding his feet through the sick chuckling away Shock He can now do 'daaadaaa woooo waaaaaa' for a few minutes at a time, mainly when chewing on teething ring!

Have rented SAW 2, going to watch it now, or maybe wait for DH's friends to leave and watch it with him, hate scary pants films on my own.

Walked 6 miles today :) and didn't scoff on return home.

Oh, GG, glad your DP is home and okay.

will post a couple of new pics on group.

novadandypowder · 03/05/2006 09:35

suggestions please for how much/what clothing I need to pack for Nats holiday - 10 days in hot weather, any advice appreciated.

Also, I'm lending a friend my moses basket, do you think she needs a new mattress for it?

And...I'm thinking of taking my own bottles away and using steralising bags for them each night instead of taking disposables (would need to take 60!) do you think this is a good idea? What have you done when away on hols?

Thanks x

babyonboard · 03/05/2006 10:06

nova - sterlising bags sound like a good idea..but you'd still need to sterelise the teats..

when O was born the hospital gave us little glass bottles of formula with disposable teats that screwed onto them..maybe you could buy a whole bunch of those?

whereabouts in crete are you going?

i had the best calamari ever near the harbour in heraklion...mmm...fancy bringing me a plate back? lol

beartime · 03/05/2006 10:20

Tessa - GF approaches weaning with baby rice first, then pear, the apple then root veg basically then after a while onto protein. What I like about her is that she gives an exact routine to do even with weaning from 6 months - Day 1 Brek, Lunch dinner, day 2 etc. so for idiots like me it's great!

Brownie - Re: carrot, I think GF says to mix with a few tsps of the juice it was cooked in, in order to make it smoother.

Went in this morning and Caleb was asleep on his tummy!

Ooh GG - rocking on all 4s - that sounds exciting! How many weeks is yours?

Nova - I'm interested in Nat being early - does she reach milestones by her due date age or her actual age? With the clothing thing, I usually pack one set of day outfits per day and then set of nightclothes per night, with a couple extra. Then when i'm there if they are reusabel I put them by just in case there's a few accidents! And for the mattress - I think it depends how fussy she is, but I wouldn't buy a new mattress - its not like they've been in it that long. I borrowed a moses basket from someone with their mattress, but used my own bedding. Though even bedding can be used by diff. babies too I think.

Diege · 03/05/2006 10:25

Morning all!
Glorious day here; time to get summer stuff out! (and the self-tan). SERIOUS disaster with johnsons holiday sun on Sunday - so bad can't even wear sandles!!
NOVA: I would take lots of romper suits/t-shirts shorts (probably easier for changes than suits actually), and wouldn;t bother with vests. Maybe one or two dresses. Lots of sunhats too (legionnaires style are good for sun protection), and wouldn't bother with baby shoes, just a few pairs of socks to keep sun off. Maybe one of those UV suits too?
Re: sterilisng, tbh I wouldn't bother; if they are washed in really hot (boiled) water this should be ok (but then I do cut corners for my own convenience BlushI'd also take ready made milk, and lots of jars. In fact, the dried foods which look yuck but most babies like are great for hols, as you can just take a flask out with you and make up as required Smile. May be a departure from yummy stuff she's used to!
Well, all excited here as have just bought a Lulu Guiness Maclaren buggy Grin. Was on waiting list so dead chuffed!!! Bet they all have them in Bugaboo land Grin.
Right, off to Jo Jingles class!
Happy birthday to RODEO!!!! Did you get some nice stuff in Topshop??
Speak later!
Diege Smile

Diege · 03/05/2006 10:30

Oh on the mattress thing, a few years ago the experts recommended new mattresses for all baskets/cots, as there was this theory that second-hand mattresses contributed to cot death (not sure why). It has been 'disproved' now and HVs round here say there's no reason to but a new mattress Smile. HI BEAR!! Sounds like Caleb is finding his own way with sleep positions! Once they are old enough to turn over it's not a problem of course Smile. Hi BOB!mmm, calamari...

babyonboard · 03/05/2006 10:34

oooh happy birthday rodeo!

have fun!

diege...ladidah atyour buggy..it sounds fab! we need a new one..but i can't decide which..lol

i once wokeup with a fake tan handprint shape on my face...argh!
to remove it I soaked a flannel in lemon juice and put it on my face for a few hours..my skin was soooo dry and sore afterwards..lol

nova have you seen these babyfoods..i got loads for O and they are delicious!

\link{http://www.bathorganicbabyfood.co.uk/\bath organics}

babyonboard · 03/05/2006 10:35

they sell them at fresh and wild (which is near you!) ..shame i can't find anywhere to order them online...

babyonboard · 03/05/2006 10:45

diege..don't know if it's your kind of thing but my cousin had acupuncture on his baby and it cured her ecxema

chacha..lol so much at Z enjoying sliding around in sick...and happy 5 month birthday to him!

I'm going to the doctors later..as I haven't had a period since the wierd heavy bleed/'steak' incident..argh!

Diege · 03/05/2006 13:04

Good luck at the dr's BOB - funny, I had a period like that the month before I got pregnant with Libby (like chunks of liver - sorry, not nice to read over lunch!) No chance you could be pregnant??!!
Am seeing HV about Libby's excema later on. Bet she won't be half as much help as you've all been Smile - I can probably give her advice Grin

babyonboard · 03/05/2006 13:52

diege..how strange!wonder if it had anything to do with the pregnancy?

the hospital said my 'steak' period was possibly leftover bits of placenta..as i had retained placenta at O's birth and they had to remove it and it came out in pieces..
that was a big pain inthe ass..having to have a spinal block and go into surgery an hour after he was born..grr

theres pretty much no chance i'm pregnant!i must have done dozens of tests these past few weeks..lol
however the doctor did take blood and has sent it to the hospital..they will call me later with results..eeeek.

babyonboard · 03/05/2006 13:56

oh...and great news..O has gained weight again!
I really put his weight loss down to starting weaning..now he's having something like half an avocado/mango and greek yogurt every day which is much more calorific than a bit of apple..lol

babyonboard · 03/05/2006 14:01

aaand then....
tex has posted fab new pictures on yahoo...i already told her she looks like britney spears in one of them..the exact same smile
must organise a photo shoot for oz...

GarfieldsGirl · 03/05/2006 14:43

Grin Happy Birthday Rodeo Grin

Diege - what must your dh think laughing at my 'front bottom' lol.

Bear - Sean will be 6 months on Monday. He was a week overdue so i'm interested in the difference between his development and what Owens was. Same theory i guess as you have with Nova's Nat being early.

Was Nat very early Nova, or was it just a couple of weeks?

Hi BoB & ChaCha

GarfieldsGirl · 03/05/2006 14:44

Aaaagghh Why didn't it go bold? Silly thing Smile

You get the idea!

babyonboard · 03/05/2006 14:58

hi g.g O was 8 days overdue..
not sure how /if it affects development as 'milestones ' are just vague estimates..
i.e novas dd could sit and almost feed herself well before rolling...
O rolled very early but still is terrible at sitting..
some of our babies have teethed..others show no sign..

my d.p could string coherent sentences together before he walked..he said 'but i'm too scared' and wouldn't let go of the furniture..lol

novadandypowder · 03/05/2006 16:46

thanks for the advice Smile

Diege - i don't steralise at home, but thought i should on holiday as it's foreign water and not sure how easy it will be to wash them in the hotel room.

Bear - Nat was 3 weeks early, born just on the turn of 37 wks, and i think she's developing along her due date age ie: is a bit slower than your average.

BoB - \link{http://www.graigfarm.co.uk/babyfood.htm\this place} does that food, and plum baby. I looked in F & W yesterday and got a few jars of Babynat to try for the holiday.

She's being a right PITA with her teething Grin

BEKsmum · 03/05/2006 17:32

Hello all

Happy Birthday Rodeo - Hope you are having a great day.

Jumping up and down with joy here - Ben got his school place - panic over!!! Grin Grin Grin

Nova, The advice used to be to buy new matressess, when using a borrowed moses basket but it seems to have changed now - so now down to personal choice.

Clothes for holiday I normally take 2 outfits per day, plus 2 or 3 pairs of pj's depending on how hot it's going to be. I doubt you'll need vests either. You can always take sachets of handwash just in case! Lots of hats, and really high factor suncream - Boots are doing a buy one get one free offer at the moment, saved myself £10.99 on factor 50 today!
You could also take the sterilising tablets and just ask the hotel to give you a bowl to use - I take it you're not self catering or you could use the sink!

Diege, lol at your Johnsons incident - snap!!!

I forgot to say I got Thomas weighed last week and he's giving Natalie a run for her money as he was 19lb 7oz So at least 20lb this week!!!

Has anyone heard from Tex & Golden - they've been very quiet lately - hope you are alright girls.

Right best go and do some tidying up it looks like a bombs gone off in my house at the moment. Hope everyone is well Beks

beartime · 03/05/2006 18:51

Well done on school place Beks!

And Happy Birthday Rodeo!

OK I need urgent advice now! What is the done thing with bridesmaids and hair - do they normally get their hair done? I don't want to outdo the bride, but I also the dress is beautiful and I don't want look right in it too! Should I get my hair done something to or just get my fellow bridesmaids to mess with it?

Tex111 · 03/05/2006 19:40

Hi ladies

Just a quick one to say I'm still alive and following the thread. Just seems to be no time to respond at the moment.

Bear, I would say to have a chat with the other bridesmaids and see what they're doing. I was a bridesmaid in one wedding and it was a real 'bridezilla' event. All of the bridesmaids had to have chignons and when I turned up they made me redo mine because it twisted the wrong way!! I'm sure you're experience will be much more pleasant. :-)

Happy Birthday Rodeo!

Great news about the school Beks. We got our letter today too and Tobes got our second choice which I'm happy about.

Geez, Rosie just can't settle and has started crying. Must get her before she wakes Toby...
