Ran over to have a look Chacha - so sweet Grin. Looks like a very lovely day was had by Z.

Thanks to your inspiration I am now the owner of a paddling pool. Did you fill yours with cold water? Z certainly seems to be loving it.

Diege · 17/05/2006 10:26

Morning!!Ooh CHACHA, your tens machine experinece made me wince Shock; sure it will be much better for you next time SmileWill have a look at your pictures after posting Grin.
BEAR: sounds like you've got into your stride with the weaning! Was puzzled by water reference (when discussing baby rice) until I realised I'd always made it up with formula. Have you tried thus, or is it too much of a faff with bf? Oh and snap, we tried baby organix rice cakes yesterday (had apple in them I think?) and yes, went down well too. Hope C is feeling better with his poorly chest; bet you're glad you went to gps after all Smile - you have permission to sack me as your nurse Blush!!
Have only read through most recent posts, so excuse me ignoring much of what went on yesterday!!
Scarlett improved again today, though spots are still quite sore and 'open' in places. J still has no sign of getting it, so starting to think she won't (which would be unbelievably good luck!!).
Right, better check my parsnips!!
Speak later!
Diege Smile

LilJ · 17/05/2006 10:27

HI all!

Well we're off on hols in two days time and last minute panic is setting in! The worst thing is trying to find jarred food he likes - I've been trying out different ones on him and the faces he pulled were tremendously funny - lentils with veggies provided the most entertaining rejection, he immediately spat it out and made a 'phwarrrrrickkkk'-like noise. I think I've sorted it now with the most simple ones - carrots & potatoes, potatoes and squash, etc. but the simple ones are surprisingly hard to find.

Went to revisit a nursery yesterday that I visited when pregnant and I was actually quite shocked at the state of it. It was tatty at its best and down-right dirty at its worst. So we're signing him up for the absolutely lovely Montessori nursery that's not very conveniently located, but was really really lovely. Now I just need to get a job Grin.

On the being induced front, I was supposed to be induced (being 13 days late) but was having contractions when I arrived at hospital. It did take 27 hours for Nate to make an appearance though! I was very eager to be induced as I was enormous and was told he was going to be a big baby - and despite everyone saying they always get it wrong at 9 lbs 2 oz he definitely wasn't small! I was also offered a c-section several times during labour and it was very touch and go at the end whether I was going to have to have one. I wasn't opposed to the idea of a c-section, but I'm glad that I didn't have one in the end. All I can say is thank god for epidurals - I always planned on having one and would have one next time - they are fabulous!

Oh and I finally had a visit from AF last night so I guess my body is returning to normal. NOt sure how I feel about it - it seems like a sort of turning point in my relationship with him, I'm kind of sad that he's becoming more independent and doesn't need me as much any more. But then again he's soooo much fun these days with his babbling, giggling and squiggling.

Well got to go and try and finish packing.

J & N xx

ChaCha · 17/05/2006 11:33

Awww...thanks Nova :) Thought you'd all forgotten about us.
Filled the pool with hot water at first, this took about 3 hours (no joke) and then after much faffing around with pipes behind the washing machine I changed it to cold water and added some of that. If I remember correctly when I tested the water to be sure it was about 34. It was comfortable for me, warmer than it was cold.
You'll both have loads of fun in there especially if you throw in a BBQ :)

Diege - Hi! Is it nice being at home today?

LilJ - Not sure if you'll be catching up on replies to your post but wishing you a lovely holiday. Glad you were able to decline c-sec - but was good to be that open minded too. The epidural was great - I kept having it topped up. Not sure if I've ever mentioned this but after just a couple of hours of DS being delivered I was up and pushing him around, making bed, wanting to get cleaned up and arranging the chairs for visitors etc. Blush Midwife said she'd never seen anything like it. Well, that was due to all the top ups - DH said I was on cloud 9, I paid for it the next day though - couldn't get out of bed and was in agony, LOL. DH's friend said 'All I remember is X running across the ward pushing Z around with a big smile on her face' LOL :o

I have a bunch of stories from that 5 days. Won't bore you with them all now Wink
Nearly lunch time, hurray! Can't wait to see his face with the carrot.

x

Diege · 17/05/2006 11:59

Gosh Z looks so grown up CHACHA!!! have inspired me on paddling pool front too, will def. get one Smile.
Yes, nice being at home today - must stop checking work e-mails though!!! parsnip went down OK, though she grabbed rice cake off me and stuffed it into her mouth like she was starving! Grin. Tend to make up two portions worth at a time, and keep in fridge. I know freezing makes sense, but don't have space or time to make loads up! Probably will when introducing protein.
Anyone started on chicken/meats yet??
Right, up for L's nap to give me a chance to tidy up a bit. Great to have DH looking after Scarlett, but boy does the house look like we've been burgled!!
Right, will stop rambling!
Diege Smile.
Have a GREAT holiday LilJ Smile

tessasmum · 17/05/2006 12:52

ChaCha - lovely photos. That's one enormous paddling pool!
Watch out for orange poo later Grin

GG - what a cute boy! Very jealous of the beach. I grew up overlooking the sea and really miss it now having succeeded in living in the middle of the country!
Did you get the implant done? I followed the threads and got it done about 5 weeks ago. No problems at all so far (and no AF - yippee!!) it just itched like mad for about 3 weeks as it was healing.

BoB - festival is an annual circus/juggling one in a scoutcamp just outside Bristol. Been going for years and lots of us old-timers seem to turn up with children now Smile

Nova - so exciting re the sign isn't it even if it is just a coincidence. Ash did 'drink' the other day. Both DH and I saw it but neither of us are convinced it was intentional, just fist at mouth at the right time! He is under close scrutiny now though just in case it was real!
Well done on the socialising and well done Nat for letting you.
Glad you DH doesn't have to be away so long, it will feel like a bit of a bonus!

Oh BEKS, poor you, that sounds like a monster one. Its not linked to a growth spurt again is it? With Tessa it isn't helped by being tired and she was taking ages to settle for a while - not out of bed but just chatting to her dolls etc for over an hour after we put her to bed. That has stopped for the moment though we did start to put her to bed earlier too try and compensate.

Hope you are through it soon.

Diege - we've been on meat for ages!! Tried chicken, lamb, tuna and mince so far. All greeted with relish Smile

Lunchtime now though Ash has just fallen asleep so his could be MUCH later!

ChaCha · 17/05/2006 13:07

Hi Tessasmum - WoW, I'm looking fwd to starting him on all those things too. I was just looking at the 9month plus part and couldn't believe that he can have shepherds pie and chicken casserole!!

Carrot puree went down a treat. He made happy munching noises and banged on tray when spoon taken away. Puree ended up on nose, cheeks, hands and over his lovely clean short set despite the fact that he was wearning a large big! Thanks for warning on orange pooh Shock

Gave him puree and about 20minutes later the milk. I'd give him a smaller bottle at 10am hoping he could have a bigger one before lunch but he was obviously not ready for it yet so the turn around in order doesn't seem to have done any harm.

Diege - Get one!! We got this massive thing from ToysRus, it wasn't more than 45quid I think and all of you could fit in there. Has a shaded roof attachment thingy but i think ours has a puncture.

Cup of tea pls x

ChaCha · 17/05/2006 13:08

'wearning a large big' - you know what i meant Wink

browniechick · 17/05/2006 13:30

Hi All, well we are a poorly house Sad. Went to Drs again today. I feel worse now than I did 2 weeks ago when I first got a cold, and T is still coughing and it is getting no better.
The Dr said we both have an Upper Respiratory Tract Infection, and mine is affecting all of my sinuses, and T's is very ruttly, and whilst not on his chest yet, could be heading that way. So we both have antibiotics. (but mine aren't banana flavour!!!! Smile) This means that T can't go to nursery tomorrow (as you have to keep them off for the first 2 days of antibiotics), but can go back on Friday.

Therefore we are looking at my Mum being signed off as a blessing, and a definitely divine intervention from somewhere Smile as she has got him today, giving me a chance to rest, and she can have him tomorrow too (oh and I am gonna see if she will go and weigh him, cos want to know when I can put him in his next car seat, as he looks too big for the infant carrier we have!).

We are still only on 1 "solid" meal a day here, for the moment, till he hits 6 months. But we are trying lots of different tastes. The nursery will put him on there menu next week when he is 6 months - so will up meals then, perhaps brekkie before nursery, then bottle at nursery? Gosh, just can't get my head round it all!!!

When I let the nursery know that he wouldn't be going in tomorrow, the manager said "I'm not looking forward to telling the girls he's not coming, they will be devasted!!!!!" - Apparently they love him soo much they fight over who gets to cuddle him!! Grin bless, my scrummy munchkin!!! Smile

Sorry for extremely self-absorbed post Blush but am wallowing in pants feeling at the moment!

B&T

browniechick · 17/05/2006 13:36

P.S - Obviously I am not at work today - hence posting on here, and ability to "rest".
Also, Chacha - I looked at your photos a few days ago, but forgot to mention them in my posts - sorry Blush
Z looks like he is having lots of fun Smile A truly bonny boy!
Am looking at getting a lightweight stroller - has anyone got a M&P pulse? They are on offer at the moment, and you get a free parasol.....?
Nova - Shock at the thought of people not protecting their babies in the sun. I know nursery put suncream on T if they take him outside, and they insist on all children having sunhats. I just bought some factor 50+ from tescos which was on offer (under a fiver!!!) its Nivea Baby stuff, so should be good.

Ooh - look at me, this was a quick postscript, and it's turned into another epic!!!!! Sorry Blush

B

babyonboard · 17/05/2006 14:07

chacha - photos are lovely! he looks very happy in the garden..and so big!
O loves rissoto (mushroom and butternut squash..yummy)! we try to have dinner together every night and it's nice for him to have the same as us..

babyonboard · 17/05/2006 14:10

brownie Sad at all your illnesses..hope you get better soon1
I currently have a bout of cysitis (i'm prone to it..) but am managing by thinking the pain when I wee is nothing compared to postbirth wees..lol

ChaCha · 17/05/2006 14:40

Oh Brownie :(
I'm so sorry to read that you and T are unwell! I hope that with mum around you both get plenty of TLC. See! There's a reason for everything :)
Must have made your heart melt to hear that the nursery nurses are going to miss T..awww..that's so sweet! Hope you both feel better soon.

(Thank you girls for looking at the pics. Really wanted to share those with you as it was our first 'summery day' together. I appreciate the nice comments :) )

BoB - Hope you too feel better. Nice having dinner together, we have another few weeks until we move onto that but I'm really looking fwd to it. Phoned DH to tell him about DS's first lunch (pls don't laugh) and he said 'But that means I'm not going to see him eat!) LOL :) We have so much to learn!

Thinking back to the ante-natal thread I'm sure there were some of us (already with children) who read my posts (or others) and though 'I won't mention anything, she'll find out herself' LOL :o My naive romanticised version of child birth and the first few months! Snigger.

ChaCha · 17/05/2006 15:33

Tessasmum - I've been trying to find out the recommended age for changing the Jane seat from lying to upright position - it seems to be 9mths - can you shed anymore light on this?
DS cries as soon as we put him in the car now, he does not look lying down - I cannot face another car journey trying to calm him down - do you think it's okay to do that now, he's not yet 6mths but weighing around 18lbs.

babyonboard · 17/05/2006 16:33

chacha - no realadvice, but do you mean your carseat is in a lying down position?
if so i'd see why Z wouldn't like it.
O has always used an upright car seat and been fine (he slept through a four hour journey, little star)
These days (and no doubt Z is the same..lol) he hates lying down when awake as he'd rather be able to see everything..he hates being 'babied' i.e close hugs, lying down, unless he's tired.

tessasmum · 17/05/2006 18:39

ChaCha - had the same with Tessa at about 6 months I think, started yelling the place down as she couldn't see. Think its fine to use it in sitting-up position as soon as they aren't too floppy, we certainly used it like that at 16 weeks when we took her to see my parents and had to fit the carseat and us into their car. We will probably be converting ours next week as we are going away and need all the room possible!
Think the 9 month thing is how long they can stay lying down before you HAVE to convert it as they are too heavy by then.

twinkle1 · 17/05/2006 18:57

Enthusia · 17/05/2006 20:25

Have not read anything I'm afriad. Just thought I'd say that I am alive and well.

Life has over taken me recently and I feel I have been swept along.

Sam is now 22lbs and 73cms tall. He is the size of a 12 month old and acts it at times!!!!!! Not at all fat, just large in total (after all that!)

He is on 3 meals a day and has cut milk back to just 500ml. He loves his food!!!!!!

I am busy but happy, deciding on jobs and second baby, along with extending our house.

I hope you are all well and enjoying yourselves. I am just sorry I haven't kept up the chat, you have all been so great.

I will post again, sometime. I just wanted to say I still think of you all, and wonder how you are doing, I will one day get round to reading thread and finding out!!!!!! Just hope you are all healthy and happy and that your babies are growing into the little angels you all deserve.

Thinking of you all

Enthusia

browniechick · 17/05/2006 20:38

Hey Enthusia - good to hear from you. Glad you are well, happy and healthy by the sounds!!! Smile
Well, just done a first, have created a conversation on the products thread. Want to get some opinions on the Cossato Whizz - Anyone here experienced them??? There's a v good deal on Kiddicare at the moment, and am seriously contemplating making a purchase!!

Am still feeling like head is gonna explode, so think it will be another day off work tomorrow (which is actually a bummer cos was supposed to be going out for a meal with the rest of the team tomorrow night, and as my mum instilled in me at an early age, if I'm not well enough to go to work (obv school then!) then I'm not well enough to go out!!) - Bugger!!!!!

Oh well, would rather get myself well.

Hope all others are doing ok - Diege, glad to hera the pox is sort of coming through the other side iyswim!!??
B&T

GarfieldsGirl · 17/05/2006 20:48

Well, Sean has been discharged from the consultant as they would rather things take their own course and as he is no longer in any pain while weeing, and has had no infections etc and wee is getting through well they feel that he should be ok. I'm happy with that, but also feel that what if it doesn't sort itself out adn he has to have the circumcision at 13/14. I'd much rather he have it done now, bt i guess its just a case of keep an eye on it and hope it doe open up by itself.

ChaCha - You must have been expecting a 10lb belter with them telling you he was going to be a big'un. And those pics of him are lovely. He's gorgeous and agree with Diege, he looks so grown up!

BEKs - have every sympathy with you over Bens behaviour. Owen's suddenly changed over the past week and he will not do as he's told, I'm pulling my hair out not knowing what to do with him.

Bear - Sad poor little Caleb. Hoping he gets better very soon.

LilJ - Have a GREAT holiday Smile

Tessasmum - yeah had implant in today, its been on order since mid Jan! Will let you know my opinion on it once the bruisings settled down! No AFs for me either (YIPPEE!!!Grin) so hoping its true that they won't come back! Where did you grow up? I don't think I could move away from the beach, I love it too much!

Brownie - poor you and Thomas, get well soon Smile

Hello to everybody else Smile

ChaCha · 17/05/2006 20:56

Enthusia :o Missed you loads. What a lovely surprise! Sorry that I haven't been in touch. You both sound very well and am happy to hear the news of a possible second pregnancy - this is great :)

Thanks TM - Will have to now try and master that!

Old 80's film on in a few minutes, off I go x

GarfieldsGirl · 17/05/2006 20:56

Oh, and on the subject of carseats, Toys R Us abd Mothercare both refused to sell me the next stage up for Sean. He is far too long for the seat, and he's probably got another 2 wks at most before the straps won't do up, its as long as it will go, and very tight at the mo. Basically they said that until they are 9kgs they are not strong enough to go in the larger seat if you're in a smash. They also said they could go in it if they can sit up unaided for 1/2 hour at least. Don't know what advice everyone else has been given, also don't know if its just those shops being too over the top and thinking that its the same rule for every single baby regardless of their size.

LaylaandSethsmum · 17/05/2006 21:02

GG the next stage carseat we've got is one that can rear and forward face . ITs big so you could put him rear facing until he's right weight and development etc then turn him around! \link{http://www.mothercare.com/invt/lx2092&bklist=icat,5,shop,shotravelpushchairs,tracarseats,carcombinations\ours is similar to this one}

GarfieldsGirl · 17/05/2006 21:36

thanks L&Smum. Seeing that reminded me too that the ones they would reccommend for Sean didn't fit in our car.
