Has anyone here had an alective ceaserean after an emergency one? I am booked for one in November and am terrified..... my last was born in October last year and the memories are still fresh

Rodeo · 15/05/2006 22:27

Yummymummy - I've had emergency & elective sections and electives are much calmer experiences than the emergency ones! Try not to worry yourself, it'll be fine :) So your age gap will be tiny!!

YummyMummy87 · 15/05/2006 22:37

I know there will be 13 months between them!! Our own fault though hee hee. It took me over a year to get pregnant, so I didnt think I would get pregnant again so quick!
What about that dreaded walk to the theatre? How will I get through that, Im scared of fainting...

beartime · 16/05/2006 03:46

Rodeo - I am pretty proud of myself abt getting to 6 mths Grin. He does like swede, but I'm looking for a pure carb that will fill himup like baby rice - so maybe I'll try potato. Thanks for the suggestions Smile But I don't have any instincts Grin which is why I like gina!

Yummymummy - congrats on getting pg again so quick! Envy From what I've heard elective cs is great - just think if you had to go thru the pain of labour - it must be like heaven in comparison!

ChaCha · 16/05/2006 10:16

Tessasmum - PC just crashed after ten minutes of typing!! Angry sympathise with yesterday's post now.

All ready for weaning here, got my fruit & veg yesterday, (but no organic parsnips, swede or papaya to be found - wrong season maybe?)a new steamer, water filter and bowls, spoons, pots etc. Accoring to AK, 1 portion is one cube in the tray right? Just confirming. Will have to cook and freeze today, had hoped to cook fresh daily but realise that this in not going to possible and way too ambitious right now. We will have a cooked dinner today so no waste with the veg.

Having a baby is expensive. Have had it easy since he was born with grandparents helping out so much but realise with every new milestone needing more and more. Definitely makes having another an option!

As you know, I was induced at 41weeks but induction failed, it took 23 tiring hours before we all agreed upon a c-sec which was IMHO an absolute blessing. Was in so much pain and distress (as was LO). I have been made to feel guilty on many occassions about having a C-sec, was told that I didn't try hard enough, should have learned to relax more that every woman is capable, woman in other cultures 'just get on with it' and have loads and that my decision for a c-sec was an easy way out! This coming from 'friends' who have had natural labour in less hours than on my one hand.
I do feel that I should have waited and not have been induced as was the most horrible experience for me and the bottom line was that baby was just not ready to come out yet, however, I feel really strongly about it and as CS's were mentioned thought I'd ask others how they feel who've been through it too. If there is to be a next time don't know if i could go through all that again. Has been suggested that I wait a few years (like i've got loads of time) and get a private m/w and try for labour again. Who knows?!

Right, got that off my chest :) thanks. House is a bombsite and loads to do. will pop back later x

babyonboard · 16/05/2006 10:47

morning everyone

Chacha I got to 41 weeks too and managed to resist induction, thank god. Did you find they are very pushy with it? I'd understand at 42 weeks but not just 1 week overdue...

I also read 1 ice cube is a portion but O was very greedy and ended up having 3 or 4..lol

Re - camping, we are considering going to 'the big green gathering' in somerset this summer.
It's very family oriented, most of my friends will have camper vans etc and I have friends living locally so we can retreat there if needs be, but i'm still a bit nervous, would any of you consider that kind of thing with a tot this age?

O has a tooth! it's so tiny and cute..he finds having it brushed hilarious and managed to spray toothpaste all over me this morning..hehe

Don't have time to read through fully as I'm busy packing but will try to come back on later.
Twinkle, rodeo, l&smum...i'll call one or all of you re. meadowhall

Diege · 16/05/2006 10:49

Morning everyoneSmile!! Well, Scarlett seems better in herself, after a tough few days of fever-induced tantrums, all of them at night Shock!! The spots haven't scabbed over yet though, so we're looking at early next week for nursery return!! Jas hasn't got it as yet, which is odd, though up to 14 days incubation!
DH is off with scarlett again today, but L is well and is in nursery Smile. My stint begins tommorrow!!!
RODEO, yes I sort of go it alone on the weaning front, think cos it's my 3rd and have a better 'feel' for what works. Poor Gina, dumped after so much adoration! BEAR, I'd try potato , perhaps mixed with parsnips when C gets the hang of the texture? L is having potato, mixed with a bit of cow's milk, for lunchesat the mo, then baby rice with a dollop if fruit for supper. I geive all the milk first, as she never 'returns' to the milk if I give solids mid-feed (did this with dds too as they only drank milk when hungry)
Had a thought the other day about 'follow-on' milks. Is anyone using them insttead of regular formula? Remember switching at 6 months with dds (they complement food better appreantly? More iron?)but haven't bothered so far Smile.
Will try and have proper read of posts tonight when back from work!!
Diege Smile

ChaCha · 16/05/2006 13:01

Me again, has been v.quiet on here for a while. Did I miss something?

BoB - VERY pushy! LO was supposedly so 'big for dates' that I'd need to be induced anyway...[roll eyes/sigh]

LOL at greedy babies. Fed again at 12ish but Babyrice didn't go down well today, but then my timing was out, he slept an hour more than usual and then em..did a big pooh as I tried to feed him!! Don't think he was interested. Try again tomorrow.

Hope to see more posts soon. Maybe it's because I'm at home this week that there seems to be so few posts. Bye for now x

babyonboard · 16/05/2006 15:27

chach - O was 'feeling small' apparantly, and was born a week overdue at 6lb 3oz but had an apagar score of 10 at both counts. I knew he was fine..I was seeing my m/w everyday and being monitored so didn't want the intervention .
It was VERY hard to say no though, the day before I went into labour the hosptal wanted me to go in for an induction and I had to get DP to call the midwife to say no.
Also for many weeks leading up to the birth I had countless scans, proddings etc that really didn't need to be done..

as for weaing..I read the books, tried to follow them , but eventually just did as l.o said..thats just my way of parenting though...

babyonboard · 16/05/2006 15:29

diege..good news and glad to hear you sounding so cheery!

babyonboard · 16/05/2006 16:58

oh no , I just read beksmums post
Sad Karma , I can't offer more than my condolences, Hope you, your family and the tots are all well, and dealing with things as best you can. Lots of hugs from me and O. xxxxx

tessasmum · 16/05/2006 17:10

Afternoon all!

Almost glad its been quiet, maybe I can finish up what I lost yesterday Smile

Slightly on edge here as neighbour came round this morning with her baby who was recovering from cold/losing her voice. Came back about an hour later to say said baby now had measles-looking rash all over Shock Ash hasn't been quite right today, probably getting DH's cold/lost voice thing from the w/e. Just hope its nothing else!

Twinkle - friend managed to concieve whilst exclusively bf and no AF. Just started to get itchy which is her early pregnancy thing!

Brownie - so sorry that your mum is having such a hard time. Glad her GP is supportive, that makes a big difference.

I'm a great believer in 'what goes around comes around', I just hope its soon for this weasel

Bear - IKWYM about wishing they could talk, its one of the reasons we did signing with Tessa because having her yelling at me from the highchair was SO frustrating for both of us. Am now hoping Ash gets the hang of it soon as he is starting to yell too!
I started Ash on very diluted mashed potato rather than baby rice and it seemed to work well.
ChaCha - Mealtimes here are:
Breakfast - sometime between 6 and 8am
Lunch - 12.30ish
Dinner - 5-5.30pm
Not exactly a strict routine as usual Smile
Started Ash on 1 cube but was soon up to 2 or more. Let Z lead the way, he won't overeat and will just lose interest when he's full.

BoB - 'go for it' with the camping. We first took Tessa at 5mths and at 7 mths did a 10 day stay at a festival. Ash will be nearly 7 mths when we first take him in a few weeks but that is only because he was in winter.
Well done on the tooth Smile

Better go and feed children.

tessasmum · 16/05/2006 17:11

Sorry, that should read 'born in winter'

babyonboard · 16/05/2006 17:39

tessasmum..wow what festival was that..?
my friends are trying to get us to go to all kinds of places this year

l&smum hope i didn't freak you out too much on the phone! rodeo..the number I have for you doesn't work!?

can someone update me via the yahoo board?..lol

GarfieldsGirl · 16/05/2006 19:21

Hiya everyone!

ChaCha - I bought a load of little pots from Tesco and i put a little bit of pureed fruit/veg in those, ice trays were just so small I never bothered with them. They will not induce you down here at all before 42 wks except under certain circumstances. Your experience sounds awful (but with the most amazing outcome of course Smile). What was Zayns weight? Out of interest what difference would a private m/w make?

Oooh BoB, a tooth! Grin

Diege - glad its easing now for Scarlett, hope it doesn't drag out too long.

Tessasmum - keep[ing fingers crossed for you that no horrible bugs come Ash's way.

Off to family planning tomorrw to have my implant done (if I can be arsed sitting in the clinic all bladdy morning), then back to the hospital in afternoon for Seans appt with the urologist. TBH things seem to have settled down, he's not in any discomfort any more when weeing, but he never obliges me with a wee while his nappies off so i can see whats happening!

novadandypowder · 16/05/2006 19:24

this may be an epic....

Karma - cyber hugs and best wishes to you and your family x

Brownie - I hope your mum gets the support she needs at work. Seeing as we spend a huge amount of our life at work, if someone is being a c*ck it can ruin everything.

Diege - Be glad they have the pox now, I didn't get it until I was 19 and it was no fun!

Also, I use follow on milk, the main reason is that you can get reward points in shops for follow on as it's against the law to offer promotions on first milks. When you consider how much you buy it's worth it IMO.

Chacha - lunch time here is any time between 12 and 1 depending on how her day is mapping out.

BoB - congrats on the tooth, and I say go for it with the camping trip.

Tessasmum - I'm convinced Nat did the sign for milk before her nap the other day, as she usually gets some before she goes down but hadn't for that particular one. It may just be coincidence....

Have been busy with my superbly behaved angel baby. Went to a great exercise class on friday in a local park where you walk around with the buggy then do exercises on park benches. Met friends on saturday and got a few 'looks' as I was sat outside a pub with the buggy (was waiting for a friend who was 2 hours late and the bar is next to the tube station). Had lunch with a couple of the post natal group mums in town on monday. Went swimming today (Nat still trying to drink pool), then got my hair done in a place that has a massage chair for when you have your hair washed.

DH back from NYC tomorrow a bit earlier than planned as a meeting was cancelled.

Random thought - I'm shocked at the number of people who make no attempt to protect their babies from the sun.

GarfieldsGirl · 16/05/2006 19:48

nova - sounds like you've been a busy bee! You must be over the moon that DH is coming back early Smile

ChaCha · 16/05/2006 20:49

GG - Good luck tomorrow. My LO weighed 7.10lbs.

Nova - Nice chirpy post from you :) When are you off to Paradise Island?

Swede/Carrot mix for our dinner said '6-7minutes in steamer' I am still checking it 25mins later!!! I will get the hang of it eventually.

Nighty night all x

BEKsmum · 16/05/2006 21:27

Hi all
Sorry this appears to be an epic!

GG Good luck tomorrow, hope Sean wees all over the person testing himGrin

Nova sounds like you've really got to grips with this socialising lark - we'll be asking you for tips soon - good for you girl!

Tessa thanks for asking about Ben and his tantrums. Had I answered you this morning I'd have happily said we appeared to have cracked it, however, this afternoon he threw the mother of all tantrums in the street, screaming, demanding, hitting and kicking me - I really wanted the floor to open up and swallow me Blush. Can you believe it took 3 hours in his bedroom back & forth, the loss of all his beloved lego and no attention from nanny & grandad before he would say sorry nicely Shock Sad

Hope Ash avoids any thing nasty from the neighbour.

Diege glad Scarlett is feeling a bit better

Bob yay for the tooth, but wait till he bites you with it!

Chacha no real food routine here yet, I'm finding one meal runs into the next bottle at the moment trying to juggle everything, also I think I've rushed him with too many concoctions as he is pooing for England and has wind up to the eyeballs which normally wakes him at about 3am for at least an hour or so, so I think it's back to the drawing board for me. The little rugrat turned his nose up at my cooking as well today so it's back to the jars now! Grin

Chacha also Shock at what was said to you in labour, if my friends & family had said that to me whilst I was in labour they'd have needed treating in A&E Grin I believe you should do what is right for you and the baby and although the drs can be overbearing they normally do know best and will only intervene if they really have too for the sake of you or the baby. It would be just too awful to lose the mother, child or both these days when every modern technology is at hand. Although I do beleive you shouldbe involved in the decision making and not just forced into anything.

Had Ben & Thomas' photo's taken at a studio today, so looking forward to choosing them on Friday, I can feel dh's wallet groaning already Grin

Had a good night out with the girls last night but after getting no sleep I left them belting out Abba tunes in the indian restaurant at 11:30 and was glad I did as apparently they didn't quit till 1:30am - ouch!

Hello to everyone else

Right off to bed after two very broken nights sleep and the return of the dreaded cold for me, hope you are all having anice evening Beks

beartime · 16/05/2006 22:18

ChaCha - you poor thing with that labour. I'm the same - I would like another but the thought of labour is a nightmare. Can't believe your friends saying that stuff! Next time you could try writing down your bding dates Grin to help you get the right due date which may prevent induction happening at the wrong time. I knew my conception date, but if I had gone by the date of my last period I would have been a week and a half overdue, whereas actually I was spot on!

BoB - congrats on the tooth! I just found out I didn't have my first tooth till 13mths Shock!

Oh and I gave the baby rice one last try tonight and he ate it all! [sticking tongue out to Rodeo emoticon] Grin I think the problem was I was using cooled boiled water cos he was ill, whereas normally I use tap water. Tonight that occurred to me and I tried it with tap water and he ate every last morsel! So not 'dumping Gina' (LOL Diege) for a while yet Smile

Caleb's on antibiotics now for chest infection Sad

ChaCha · 16/05/2006 22:46

Beks - I can really sympathise with you. We went our for a meal with our friends and their DD on Saturday. Mum went to loo, DD realised and screamed blue murder, this lasted until she was on the floor screaming, kicking chair legs, punching etc. Finally her dad had enough, picked her up and she went all sleepy eyed. Think friend was glad that her DH had witnessed this and was able to relate to why she is pulling her hair out!
No, LOL, they didn't say that to me in the hossie, this was a while ago when discussing one friends perfect birth plan (exactly like mine, lol). I would not have put up with that at any point of those 23 hours - Did I tell you that the battery ran out of the tens machine in the midst of most painful flippin' contractions ever? I'd make it just across the room and then boom, another one! Gas and Air is a blessing :o

Caleb - Poor little Bear!! Do hope that he'll be as right as rain soon? (where does that simile come from?) We are doing the carrot tomorrow - such fun and excitement in my house [sarkie emoticon]

Feel insomnia lurking. x

beartime · 16/05/2006 22:58

Hey ChaCha - we get excited abt new food too! He loves swede and sweet potato so you could try them?

beartime · 17/05/2006 08:45

oh I forgot, he had his first finger food yesterday - a little organix rice cake. I was a bit cynical abt whether he'd really eat it - but he did - the whole thing!

beartime · 17/05/2006 08:53

and Caleb's fav thing to do is sit on my lap at the computer and play with the lid on the rubbish bin!

ChaCha · 17/05/2006 10:11

Bear - LOL :o DS wrecks the keyboard when he sits on my lap.
Finger food sounds interesting. We've only just started this week, so after two days of babyrice we are having carrot today. OMG - I've started the we thing, eeeeeek!!!

Will start freezing batches this afternoon and hopefully be prepared in advanced so less to do.

Home all this week as we're away from Friday to Monday and I have so much to do - weather isn't particularly great here either.

Did anyone see my little boy's pics yet :(
I put them up especially to show you all. [frowns] x
