So glad Hawthers and Wants got sleep. So if bonjela did the trick, is F teething then?

Happy birthday Scream ! But what a pity about Chelsea. Surely babes in arms wouldn't cause any problems? Anyway, hope your lunch, vineyards and dinner are fab!

Dream your BBBBs can't go on like this forever. One day there will be smiles and sleep. If the main problem is colic, it might pass in a few weeks, no?

PetWoman · 25/05/2012 12:13

By the way, well done to all for any completed (or started) housework! I managed to vacuum and hang out a wash this morning so I'm feeling very proud. :) Luckily DH does the cooking. But how do those of you with two little ones look after them and make meals etc? I bow down to you Supreme Mothers of the Universe.

Too your compressed hours plan sounds brilliant! Wish I could do that. And how fit and healthy will you be with all that cycling?! I wouldn't fancy uphill after a long day at work, but at least you'll know it's bringing you closer to M with every push on the pedal.

But poor you and M with the jabs! My DS has his on Monday when he'll be just 8 weeks. Then on Wednesday I'm taking him on the train to London to visit my family for a week. Will he be ok by then, do you think? Obviously I want them to see him at his best. Grin

Hope all those in pain or unwell or with poorly little ones are doing better today...

PetWoman · 25/05/2012 12:19

Oh, and Musical I'm afraid I haven't got any words of wisdom about the latching issue. :( Can you get hold of a bf counsellor to help?

jaggythistle · 25/05/2012 13:21
Angry

i did a huge post earlier and my phone wouldn't post it grr!

must try to get on a pc...

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 25/05/2012 13:22

Oh my good God, inconsolable howling! Have resorted to Calpol.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 25/05/2012 13:45

DH is currently baby-wearing and it is working at present. She woke up from a sound sleep and howled angrily with her in-pain howl. Feeding didn't work, and walking around with her only worked intermittently. An attempt to take her temperature didn't work because she wriggled too hard for the thermometer to get a good reading, so I gave her Calpol and then DH put her in the sling and she's now asleep.

Three injections next time, Pomme?

Just had the midwife round heel prick test:( she weighed D and he has lost over 10% of his birthweight so they are goigto have to come again on Sunday. If no weight gain he will have to go back to hospital!

jaggythistle · 25/05/2012 14:48

don't panic wants! just feed feed feed as much as you can.

try and get everyone to look after you and bugger off to bed for some skin to skin. i know you said D is feeding lots anyway today, but skin to skin helped when DS2 got bit sleepy and jaundiced around day 3/4 so it must encourage guzzling. brooking for lots of weight gain soon!

might be worth posting for advice on the bf board if you get a minute?

scarletfingernail · 25/05/2012 14:56

Just a quick one for wants then I'll come back later.

Try not to panic which I know is hard when you're also dealing with day 5 hormones. I've been in your situation with both DS and DD and got in a right old state. If your milk has only just come in that explains the weight loss. Now that it has you can make up for it. I'm sure if you feed every couple of hours, even if it means waking him he will definitely have put weight on by Sunday.

DD is still catching up and ia not there yet and she'll be 4 weeks old on Sunday. If he seems well in himself and is feeding, weeing and pooing he shouldn't need to go back to hospital x

Wants3 · 25/05/2012 16:42

Thanks guys, I know he is going to be ok, he's not jaundice yet but it's just a bit scary hearing the 'H' word! I haven't had a dirty nappy today but D has been feeding in clusters throughout the day. He is currently sleeping. He had been awake most of the morning and had only been down for an hour when the midwife came and woke him up!

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 25/05/2012 17:01

Wants, do not panic, all will be well! M lost 12% of her birth weight (luckily MW miscalculated and thought it was just over 10% so we avoided the hospital), and although we had a stressful few days she put the weight back on and then some! If D is cluster-feeding then he should have the weight back on in no time. Did the MW express any concerns with the length/frequency of feeds? If not, I bet it'll be fine.

Wow, a swallow just flew into the house, through the kitchen into the living room, flapped around frantically and then flew out again! Maybe we should shut the front door, but it is such lovely weather.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 25/05/2012 19:42

Where is everyone? Having a life? M has been asleep for 2.5 hours now, which is highly unusual at this time. I am starting to twitch and suspect I may get no sleep tonight.

OP posts:
pommedechocolat · 25/05/2012 20:15

too - jabs made dd1 sleepy for days. Doesn't work with miss chompy cheeks but with dd1 I had a lot of spare time injection weeks!

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 25/05/2012 20:46

Maybe all the howling wore her out! Thanks Pomme, that makes me feel better. I am so unused to having free time in the evening that I have actually cleaned the bathroom! Am considering getting the hoover out, even. Shock My boobs are feeling all tingly and full.

Wants, ignore the scary H word! I'm sure all the cluster feeding is working wonders with his weight already :-) DD cluster fed from the word go (has stopped doing it with middle of the night feeds quite so much, though still does it late at night) and only lost 5% of her birth weight. Explains the state of my nipples..

Too, how lovely to have some unexpected free time in the evening! Hope she still sleeps well tonight for you :-)

PetWoman, impressed by your completed bits of housework! I didn't get any done today, but I did get down town and bought a few bits and bobs on the shopping list. DH is currently downstairs making the house look spick and span while I feed DD in bed.. so lovely :-)

Does anyone have anything lovely planned for the weekend? Tomorrow we're off to our local kitchen showroom to finalise a quote - scary as it'll be the longest we've been out with DD and hoped she will behave! Think I'll use the Moby - if all else fails DH can do most of the appt! Then having friends round for our annual Eurovision party (not sure how it became a tacky tradition, but there you are..). Sunday we're visiting our parents and have lots of visitors arranged too. A bit mad..!

I've been rereading The Baby Whisperer for the first time since DD was born whilst cluster feeding her this evening (as per usual). I've picked up some good tips and advice from it, but the idea of everything in there being applicable to every child seems a bit barmy! Even at just over a week old I can see there are some bits that just aren't applicable to DD or wouldn't work...

Btw, reusable nappy users, when did you make the transition? I'm thinking of beginning it soon. Need a nappy bin first mind.. But I just can't wait to have DD in the lovely snuggly nappies! Need to spend some time snapping them all into newborn size first mind...

DreamingOfPeace · 25/05/2012 23:27

wants don't worry yet, I think hv are way too quick to panic people about feeding. Just keep going, he'll gain.

Briefly popping on to say I'm so glad your boy is home and gaining weight bigboobs, what a relief.

I am trying my hardest to space feeds, my colicky boys were just loaded screaming into the buggy at 10pm and walked round for 45 minutes but are still screaming. Feeding comforts them briefly but also ? makes them worse. Bloody colic, I'm tearing my hair out and just shattered... Nothing gripe water/ gaviscon wise seems to help. It's all just such a struggle atm. I feed together for calming them but its clearly not going that well- to make matters worse today i have a really sore boob and feel a bit achey. Hoping to feed out whatever's blocked before its full blown mastitis.

Oh I'm tired. Please sleep boys. Please heal boob.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 25/05/2012 23:41

Please sleep BBBBs! Please heal, Dream's boob. Please sleep BBBBs!

Hello

hawthers · 26/05/2012 04:21

jen jen does that mean its all kicked off and mini fraggle is here?!

Biscuitsandtea · 26/05/2012 05:09

Just nipping in to say hello. My broadband seems to have gone on strike (it does this from time to time I think it might be French ) so I can only get on using my phone which has a really slow Internet connection where we live (just the sort with the little circle for those iPhoners).

Hence I might be a bit quiet - sorry Sad. I'll try to read where I can but may not be able to post much.

Brooking for sleep and healthy nipples all round though Smile

Brook on dudes xx

Biscuitsandtea · 26/05/2012 05:22

Too hope M is all find now. E did his best night ever after jabs, followed by howling and then calpol (8-3). Never seen before - or since!

Biscuitsandtea · 26/05/2012 05:34

(by which I mean he did jabs - howling - calpol - good night's sleep - normal service resumed)

Wants3 · 26/05/2012 10:16

music I am waiting until poos are less sticky and black before using my lovely reusables as it can really stain! I am also wanting to use reusable wipes but need to start the whole system together.
Another good night with D.we had two 3 hour blocks of sleep with good feeds in-between. We all had a lie in until about 8.15. I have been feeding, having breakfast since then so I am still in my pyjamas but we haven't got visitors until this afternoon so there is no rush.:)
Anyone got a link to the no brooking thread as I cannot find it!

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 26/05/2012 11:08

Oooh, what's going on, Jen?
