Wabbit, Pooka (or should I say Pooka's friend), Sallie - gosh, have just been reading down the thread and cannot believe these men . Am just praying that I can bring up DS so as not to turn out like them! Wabbit - belated birthday wishes.

Am currently doing the "controlled crying" thing with DS. It is killing me - he sounds so pitiful ... . Think I am going to have to give in this time ....

Girls, Thankyou, your words are so heartening (yes I can rest assured that I'm a very good mummy and I won't be expecting an Au Pair to look after my baby [again emoticon])
Pooka - Your poor sweet friend, to have self esteem issues when she is so clearly the 'bigger' person at heart . The sexy body image thing is such a crap excuse, being attractive is far more about the light that shines within.

RZ - I've not got to this bit yet, I'm giving him time, he's still got so much answering to do to his family and friends, I think I'll leave my questions until he's finished sqirming. I don't enjoy it, he's having enough moments with 'other woman' - the greater disparity between mine and her reactions the better in many ways (I think)

As this whole episode has answered many questions in my mind, there's a sense of relief that it's all out in the open in all it's ugly form - the thing we all need to concentrate on are the teeny lives that we've made in our messy and (not in my case) greedy desires.

It's really helping to be able to get all this written down... Thanks for your support xxxxx

RZ - I didn't know there were particular guidelines with the controlled crying thing? My guess is that (like everything else) you hear different opinions even from different health visitors! My main battle is with bedtime - I try to follow a routine to wind DS down before bed - eg bath, massage, feed etc and usually he is ok but tonight for some reason he just wouldn't settle down. Finally I went to pick him up after about 30-45mins of crying (630-715ish) and had a bit of a cuddle etc then DH came home and had a bit of a play and we put him down again at around 8pm. He cried for about 5 mins then fell asleep. What do you do with your bub?

I have 'controlled grizzling' - if I put Rachel to bed - and she does her 'I'm bored, I want entertaining' grizzel - I leave her to fall asleep. But if she is full on crying I go straight back to wind/comfort/cuddle her.

wabbit - can't believe what you are going through, just sounds awful. Can't help feeling that she was planning to get pregnant (surely twice isn't accidental) which puts a whole different slant on it from her prosective. Glad you have family to support you (and here of course!)

Have been doing controlled crying with G as she wakes 45 mins after going to sleep and it was getting better with her just needing a quick cuddle to get back to sleep but was yelling on and off for nearly an hour last night. At the weekend she managed three nights of not waking at 8 but then woke at 10.00 instead which felt to late to let her cry but a bit early for a feed so we had to cuddle her back to sleep again. Finding the evenings really hard with her she wakes at random times and then needs feeding before she'll get back. I'm sure she's not always hungry but won't settle with out a feed. She's also quite unsettled during the day and likes to be entertained and often hugged for most of the day.

Incidently the HV recommended that once they're over 3 months that they don't have a pm sleep. Has anyone managed to drop this one. If I go out anywhere she crashes out and if I stay in and she doesn't have one she's knackered miserable and felling alseep in the middle of her last feed.

Is it time for a new thread?

Let them drop the sleep when they are ready balls to well meaning hv each child is different.

Was dd's 4th birthay yesterday (good grief where has the time gone?) she had a party at the wacky and had a great time.

Happy Birthday for yesterday to your DD mummyhill. How are you doing? Happy days like yesterday must make it all seem worthwhile, eh?
DD2 usually has a few catnaps during the day, often after she's just been fed. If I'm out walking with her or in the car she will fall asleep and then sleep for 2-3 hours in the afternoon but has no set routine. I don't "put her down" until around 10pm when she is flat out and then she'll sleep through until 7.30-8am which is fine by me. Her sister was the same and stil at the age of two will very often not go to bed until 9.30-10pm.

DH is pestering me to wean DD2. She's 17 weeks and I really don't think she's ready. She's settling ok and while she watches us when we're eating I only think it's because of the shiny cutlery and colourful food. She's gaining weight fine too (although only on the 9th percentile). In fact don't kow why I'm mentioning this at all as I know that I'm right to wait a little while yet. What do DH's know anyway!!! (Apologies to Sallie, Wabbit and Pooka's friend as I know your H/P problems are a bit more serious - hope you are all ok today)

School just called for me to collect ds - as he said he had tummy ache - and a number of the kids have the sickness & vomiting bug. However now at home ds looks fine and is now singing and playing merrily with his toys - he has no temperature and says his belly is more of a rumble and can he have pizza and chips Have I been dupped??? Oh well glad he's happy and not poorly - hope it stays that way!

Oh forgot to say - dh is being interviewed for a new bbc2 programme called Extreme Dreams - where 'ordinary' people are dropped over cliffs, thrown down rapids, and dangled from mountains - sounds just great He is so excited - bless!!!

Jaamy how did DD1 get on with knickers at nursery? DS came home in the same pants and trousers that he went in .

Not sure about the dropping the afternoon nap at 3 months - although I have no idea when Alice will or does nap . DS still had a pm nap for much longer than 3 months anyway.

Alice is still her happy self again which is nice . I think she must have been ill last week (thinking about it being more sicky than normal and some yucky nappies and a very grumpy baby does mean some4thing).

On the weaning front Alice is 20 weeks today and I have no plans tro wean yet. Ask your DH if he wants to do all the food preparing and serving and see if he;s still so keen

DD1 had 2 accidents at nursery yesterday (both poo related and one just because she couldn't get to the potty in time!!) which I think is pretty fab for her first full day without nappies at nursery where there are so many more interesting things to be doing thatn sitting on a potty.Well done to your DS - bet you're dead proud. All the first time mums must be wondering what all the excitement is about!
Yes, think DH would have a different opinion if he was the one preparing the food!
Re afternoon nap - DD1 STILL sometimes has one for an hour or so and she's 2! Think it is up to each child to decide themselves when they are tired. Nothing worse than keeping a tired child awake...except perhaps being awake in the night with a child who wants to play because they've slept all day...oh, I don't know....

DD didn't drop afternoon nap till she was 18 months. As long as you are happy for them to have a nap and are not awake all night with them I would leave well enough alone.

I am not doing too badly at the moment have been taking the ad's for a week now am hoping they start to have an effect soon but am aware that it can take up to 3 months before they have any effect. I am taking each day as it comes and am trying not to get too stressed by everything.

I return to work on Monday and am dreading it.

Abigail is singing away at the moment on our bed. She does a lovely swalky, squeal. Makes me smile lots and cry too as I know this phase won't last very long. She's started reaching out for us now and putting her hand in my mouth when I cuddle her...going all mushy now...she's soooo beautiful!
