New Year - New Thread!!

Hope you all had a lovely festive season!

I went for a nice walk in the park today as it was lovely & sunny. Sneezed violently half way round and realised my pelvic floor integrity ain't what it used to be. Which got me thinking about New Years resolutions!

  1. DO MORE PELVIC FLOOR EXERCISES!!!
  2. Get Toned and Fit
  3. Get pregnant
  4. Sort out the garden

Obviousy number 3 may have an impact on 1 and 2!!

OP posts:

last time dp and i were staying in a b&b in the lake district
we were a bit drunk, i asked him where my glasses were, and he came out of the bathroom and threw tem at me (didn't realise how hard) and caught me just by the eye
didn't think anything of it
next morning went to get up to go for breakfast and my WHOLE eye was swollen and bruised!
everyone whispering in the breakfast room
a whole week or cheery 'hello's' on the mountain paths with whispers after wards

don't fancy that again!!!

roosmum · 20/01/2006 21:29

hello all! & welcome hanjan! moan away...i also have a non-sleeping monkey of a boy, so you're def not alone (tipex also in the club...& recently hazellnut, tho she used to get sleep!).

at the nipple twiddlers...yes we have that too...roo likes to feed from one side & play with the other, it really cracks me up !!

tipex - i'm trying SO hard atm to study! we have a system where dh goes early to work & i have roo all morning, then i walk over to uni campus & we swap at abt 2.30. i'm free in the library then til about 6.30, getting home in time for roo's bath/milk
it means we can avoid childcare (& the trauma of leaving roo, plus the cash outlay), which is fab IMO. still take roo to some groups etc in the mornings, dh might take him swimming one afternoon a week, if i can persuade him it'd be good. dh is pleased as he gets to see loads more of roo this way

know what you mean girls about the babies constantly amazing us! after babysigning for ages & thinking roo just wasn't going to do it, he signed milk SO clearly tonight, & all in one day has decided that he 'knows' & can point to (on command!) nose, chin, mouth, bath, water, foot, toes, fish ... i'm totally blown over, like he's been saving it up for ages!!

tipex - organic gingerbread men? treat? roo had ice-cream (yeo valley tho!) before bed tonight, because we were having some, & he showed no interest at all in going to bed!! ah well, it's the weekend

sl - how exciting about your house! more details please, are you putting an offer?

hn - my cakes are always flat too, dh's are brill. but bet it looks good when you've finished decorating when is dd's b/day?

hello chirpy goss (t-shirt? i'm still in looong coat & scarf!), & nik, & bil, & angeliz! where's futurity & fruitful got to? hope all's ok

gossifer · 20/01/2006 21:29

we don't have shirts for work, linen just goes straight on the bed, anything that might need ironing gets hung straight on the hanger wet! drycleaner every once in a while, we don't have an iron!!!!

ha ha ha!

gossifer · 20/01/2006 21:32

tipex - i'm worried!

starlover · 20/01/2006 21:34

roosmum sounds like life is pretty hectic atm!!! but so nice not to have to pay for childcare etc etc!
am thinking about getting extra work, and Linus may have to go into nursery/childminder or something which is a bit scary!

can't find details of house online, but will update once we have viewed it!

yes sl, tho the main bit is not having to leave him anywhere. plus we get to see him lots, do fun stuff, i'm hoping it'll work out well!!

tipex, i have geek chic glasses, would they be any good? they're good at concealing thick lenses w/o paying a mint for extra extra thinning...

roosmum · 20/01/2006 21:39

tipex, roosdad has finished phd, now still working as researcher in same dept.
we live a 15ish minute walk from campus, v. handy!

I draw the line at ironing knickers
At the moment the computer room looks like a bomb full of ironing has exploded in here. I'm finding it hard to get motivated to do anything at all as it all SO much, i kind of walk round sighing and don't know where to start so don't.
Amelia is REALLY clingy and sleeping awfully.
hanjan, i'm doing exactly the same as you at the moment, taking her in around 10.30 when she starts and won't go off, can't do controlled crying and i wish i had never started reading '3 in a bed'! It is a fantastic book and i agree with it all but can't see how it's possible. Especially with another on the way.
She stood up holding onto dd1's bed this morning and sort of stepped herself towards it. Bless her.

SIGH.I'm being summoned!!!

gossifer · 20/01/2006 22:18

computer crashed

tipex, i'm nowhere near your shortsightedness

well, gonna have to call it a day on here, took me 3 goes to get it up again! think it got very hot (techincal aren't i!)

but before i go, we're decided to give it a go without a car (have work van for trips if we really need it) and do the BIKE THING! anyone else a cyclist? have leons' new bike seat in the hall, we're of to the bike shop in morning to have it fitted and get him a helmet

watch out!

cannot wait for the freedom!

Hanjan · 20/01/2006 22:34

Right, it's bed time and already the little madam is sleeping like a lamb in my bed- I don't think that I'll ever get my own way ever again
Angeliz - so glad to know I'm not the only one!

Blondeinlondon · 20/01/2006 23:11

I was going to go to bed nice and early but I had all these messages to read!

V glad it's the weekend
Went out for dinner tonight, took DS, he was a bit whingey at the start but dropped off in the buggy eventually

Tipex - on the nipple tweaking - DS would like to do it but I refuse access!!

Have a good weekend all

Hazellnut · 21/01/2006 07:49

blimey - busy on here last night !!

Just a quickie as supposed to be packing computer away but SL I will scan in recipe/pattern etc and email it to you - I think I will have your email address somewhere - if not, I'll shout !

have a good weekend all...

picnikel · 21/01/2006 09:03

Missed all the chat last night - typical! Was watching the bog bodies programme but was so tired I fell asleep on the sofa.

Have to confess to being a closet ironer too. I never used to iron anything except shirts but seem to have undergone some kind of stepford wife transformation since having dd and now obsessively iron everything (except undies & socks - only a total freak would do that ). I love ironing dd's clothes, very therapeutic .

Wish it was warm enough for a t-shirt here . It's still damn cold. I've gone down with every bug dd has had and worked out that I've been ill more or less continuously for a month . Am finally getting over 2 weeks of sinusitis, which was utterly foul (probably because I didn't take any antibiotics & kept forcing myself to go into work, what a pillock). On the bright side, with very little appetite I'm now finally prepregnancy weight which I suppose is a little compensation for having thick green cr*p pouring out of my sinuses for the last fortnight.....or maybe not!!! .

Enough whinging! Good luck with the house, SL - sounds really exciting. I love looking at houses (probably because I'm so nosy). Let us know how you get on!

Tipex - how's the hair these days? .

All this talk of nipple tweaking cracked me up! Dd has nipped us a couple of times, must try & break the habit before we get a note form nurserry to say she's bitten one of the other children.

Have a good weekend everyone!

starlover · 21/01/2006 19:41

gossifer... let us know how the bike works out! have been thinking about this for me and linus. am a bit worried though because i haven't cycled for AGES and am thinking that the seat on the back will be extra weight and i'll topple over or something!
Like the look of those things you attach to the back and pop the kids in though! lol

hello nik! anoither ironer eh? am envious of anyone who can bring themselves to do it! lol
sorry to hear you've been feeling crap though, although the weight loss has got to be a slight silver lining eh?

Well... my perfect house has been sold! not to me though so still looking

Hazellnut · 23/01/2006 11:01

You wierdo's with all that ironing - is it a GP thing ????!!! . I iron dh's shirts (I never did when I worked but thought I would have plenty of time when I was home so agreed to take it on - grrrrr - I hate ironing) and also anything of dd's that needs it but as little as possible !!

Had a lovely weekend here - dd's party on saturday which was lovely and then yesterday we went out for a meal with 2 antenatal friends who I see a lot of, whose babies are both born the day after dd so all about to celebrate their first birthdays. Can't believe today is the last day of her being an under 1 !!!!!!! DH is off tomorrow - she will go to her swimming lesson as normal as dh wants to see her in action and then not sure what we're going to do - find some swings or something and eat cake......

Just today had to go for her 12 month hip xray. Still not sorted - in fact, they thought it was all fine until they looked at her hip x-ray and could hardly see any bone formation round the sockets (probably haven't explained that very well but not sure I understand it myself !) so she has to go back again in 6 months to see if it has formed properly..... (Tipex/Nik - if you know anything about this, I have started a thread under health so would appreciate your comments but understand if its not something you can advise on !!)Gosh - its always something isn't it !! She's still waking up for 2 hours in the night too. Last night I decided I was going to be tough and not get her out of the cot and she cried for a bit, then sat with her back to me sucking her bunny comforter and then sat for a while longer an d suddenly laid down and went to sleep. So... only an hour and a half last night - progress .

Right off to Jo Jingles......
