New Year - New Thread!!

Hope you all had a lovely festive season!

I went for a nice walk in the park today as it was lovely & sunny. Sneezed violently half way round and realised my pelvic floor integrity ain't what it used to be. Which got me thinking about New Years resolutions!

  1. DO MORE PELVIC FLOOR EXERCISES!!!
  2. Get Toned and Fit
  3. Get pregnant
  4. Sort out the garden

Obviousy number 3 may have an impact on 1 and 2!!

ooh teletubbies is definitely a fave here - its the only programme she really sits and watched. Today was v. funny as in the 'real life clip' (ok so I know its not real life but more so than teletubbie land) they were bowling and dd found this sooo funny - she just giggled everytime the pins fell over - I had to ring dh so he could hear !! She giggles at the teletubbies running around too !

Games - pretty much what others are up to - pulling things out (particularly the drawer in the coffee table) and putting things in cupboards and shaking things. Also into books - Dear Zoo a particular fave here. Also taking the pieces out of those wooden jigsaw things. Can't put them back in though !!

Nik - I wouldn't exactly call dd's efforts walking - its more like one step, collapse but hey ho its a start ! She also started copying dh and I saying 'achoo' after we sneeze as otherwise she gets upset at the noise - but now she keeps saying 'achoo' 'achoo'. Can't quite count as her first word but its quite funny !!

Goss - will def be up for a meet up at Kew.. let me know ....

Glad the play thing was good despite grotty 2 year olds - grrrrr - Earlsfield is quite close to me too so worth knowing about ! Let me know if you go again and I'll attempt to gatecrash !! Right off to bed in case we have another epic night like last......

starlover · 16/01/2006 22:24

yes gatecrash away! lol
think you have to book a place there.... food is also lovely (that's the important bit!)

so will let you iknow next time i'm going up and you can come along!

roosmum · 16/01/2006 22:34

ooh, loadsa messages!

good news for me is that roo's def on the mend, temp back down & only (!) 2 pukes today.

hard to get him down for the night today, he's been sleeping with us the last few nights...thanks all for your concern, it's been awful seeing him ill for the first time. it's prob just the beginning right?! hope dd is feeling better pjmum, i lol at 'walking pharmacy'!

HN, 'dear zoo' is a fave here too! & 'when it's time for bed' soooo cute. SL, did you get 'happy dog/sad dog' from HV, with poppy cat? i LOVE that one!
& bum for your pushchair SL, i saw your thread...you're not lucky with buggies huh?? seriously peeved for you, i know you love it, hope it can be fixed with minimum hassle.
playing - roo also loves to chuck stuff, slam/empty cupboards (esp his clothes recently!), play with various bits of flashing plastic tat - which i loathe, but it keeps him busy - he's not interested in tv EXCEPT for baby bright dvd, it's like a baby einstein type thing, really odd but he's into it. also singing, chasing, signing/singing, peekaboo (which he does), copying noises we make ... ?

good to see you goss, total bum for you car & computer, unnecessary bills = right miserable!
hope you get some sleep tonight HN, i'm wrecked after 3 no-sleep nights! shd prob go & get some zzz myself. hope ds still impressing on the sleep front tipex, think i'm gonna have to get tough with roo when he's 100% better, i can't take no more sleeplessness

xxx

roosmum · 16/01/2006 22:36

ooh & good to hear you're feeling ok angeliz!

for little ratbags at softplay...i don't like those places - hotbed of worms for kids, is that right??!

starlover · 16/01/2006 22:45

oh glad to hear that roo is on the mend! lockets was saying that they finally got tough with her dd2 (she's 9 months) and did cc with her and she's sleeping brilliantly now! it only took 2 nights

dunno what it is with me and pushchairs... just hope that this time we can sort it!

picnikel · 16/01/2006 22:46

Hooray, glad Roo's on the mend.

picnikel · 16/01/2006 22:49

Bet you wish you had a zapp, eh SL ?

KWYM with the maternal instinct, though - I feel like I could do serious violence to anyone who hurt dd........

starlover · 16/01/2006 22:51

lol! you know i was thinking that as i dragged his pushchair on and off trains today.

but that thought vanished when i laid him back and he had a lovely long sleep! that just would't happen with a zapp!
i need something just as tiny, but that reclines!

picnikel · 16/01/2006 22:53

I know - a bugaboo !!

starlover · 16/01/2006 22:59

lol! no way!

roosmum · 16/01/2006 23:00

if the zapp reclined, i reckon it'd be SUCH a winner!

roosmum · 16/01/2006 23:03

roo bawling AGAIN

have had enough. really had enough.

gotta go, night all!

starlover · 16/01/2006 23:06

Hello all. Glad to hear that Roo is on the mend.DD's eye is less gooey but not 100% yet hopefully by the end of the week it will be. Just spent the last 2 hours trying to get her to sleep. Nightmare. Screaming to be picked up, when i do she pushes me away, put her down scream scream scream. Just managed to rock her to sleep.
Seems i only come on here and moan. Sorry guys hopefully one day (soon)il have something happy to say!

It's good to moan - and at least with MN there's usually someone going through the same thing. Sorry to hear about all the sleep traumas, though . When I was pregnant people would warn me how hard being a parent would be but of course I didn't belive them!! I wouldn't change it for the world but DH and I have had to work much harder at being a couple, we used to have all the time in the world to chat, go out for dinner, snuggle etc.....

Thanks for all the playing ideas. Am relieved they're all doing the same things as I was getting myself into slight "I'm a bad mummy" mode as I was worrying that I wasn't doing enough with her. Silly me !

So - thinking of spring to try & cheer myself up - what plans do you have for when the weather gets better, the daffodils come out and we all stop getting colds every week?? I'm looking forward to being in the garden with dd old enough to run around. We've got a wee slide left by the previous owners so it'll be fun to use it this year.

starlover · 17/01/2006 21:12

tipex that sucks! do you know, i think when we have our next babies we're going to do a swap! you;'ll get the easy sleepy baby and i'll get the one who won't sleep at all! at least you know what it's like... i've been too spoiled with Linus and i won't know what to do if i hav a difficult one next time!

i don't know what to suggest re: car trips. other than making sure it's in his awake time and maybe sitting in the back with him and making sure he has stuff to play with?

it's a nightmare isn't it. i hate travelling with Linus too, and he will usually sleep still! but he does just whinge constantly while he is awake which drives me nuts.

i think controlled cryig is easier in your own house... you can always escape down the hall so it isn't so loud!!!

pjsmum... glad polly is on the mend! but at the not wanting to go to sleep. it's impossible to know whether they're just being a bit naughty or if there is actualyl something bothering them isn't it?

Hazellnut · 18/01/2006 12:21

Well if you can't moan here, where can you moan ?!

DD still having cough cold sleep issues and dh yesterday had the stomach bug of doom. Has gone bakc to work today but I am sitting around moping .

Do you remember the days when i had a fab sleeper too ?! I am grateful I had those days but I managed to wipe the smile off the 'bloke who owns the cafe down the road's' face yesterday when he was telling me and a friend about his 10 week old daughter - 'we're doing Gina Ford and it really works, she sleeps through the night at 10 weeks'... So I say 'SHE' (pointing accusing finger at poor snotty dd) slept through the night at 10 weeks but hten she got to 4 months and it all went backwards and now she's almost a year she's even worse. HAHAHAHAHAHA (evil cackle) that shut him up. Well it made me feel better for a few microseconds before feeling guilty I spoilt his new baby idyll.....

Right, dd's birthday party on saturday so it must be time for cake panic. Was thinking a number 1 but now thinking a teddy bear.... hmmmm..

SnowmAngeliz · 18/01/2006 12:28

Oh Amelia's sleep is just mad.
She was fab at first too.
I have started reading 3 in a bed before 'The no cry sleep solution' and although i kind of co-sleep every night anyway, am totally coming round to how NATURAL it is. (Sadly, bad timing about the News today on cot deaths)
I am just confused what i'll do when number 3 arrives though, could be 5 in a bed

DD is asleep now as she's been awake since HALF PAST FIVE !!!!!!

starlover · 18/01/2006 13:17

i really truly cannot get my head round how quickly this past year has gone. i keep remembering back to when we first brought linus home, so tiny and sleepy and lovely.. how new and exciting it all was... just seems SO long ago now. the time has gone by far too quickly!

hazellnut... anyone doing gina ford really does need their illusions shattered i think! really don't like GF much... especially when followed to the letter.

angeliz... you;ll be needing a bigger bed then?

pjsmum · 19/01/2006 17:58

We are medicine free No gooey eyes, no snotty nose, no barking cough think ive collected the wrong child from nursery Hopefully she'll get back into the idea of falling asleep on her own again. Ive just put down and she's moaned for maybe 3/4 minutes and all is quiet. Still not sleeping at nursery, the odd 20 mins some days
Still havent spent any of my wages, apart from petrol and nursery fees, very boring. Oh and the council tax!
Tipex thats really frustrating at the travelling problem. DD has never been too great at it either. She is at the moment straining away from the car seat when you try and puther in it No idea what that is about. I know what you mean about ordering one that sleeps next time!

W0MBAT · 19/01/2006 20:05

Hope you are well! Just letting you know that dd's sleep has become a nightmare for me too. She is waking up at least once in the night and the only thing that settles her is milk. A friend told me to try and just give her water, which is a bit Gina Ford but might have to try it. Why did it seem so much easier getting up in the night when she was tiny? Now I just feel frustrated.

PJsmum - I am glad to hear your dd is better. The settling down sounds much more positive too.

Is anyone doing baby signing? My dd is now doing milk, drink and nappy change. The nappy change sign is followed by fits of giggles so very cute!

Angeliz · 19/01/2006 20:10

WOMBAT how cute. We haven't taught Amelia to sign but she seems to tell us alot that way. She puts 2 fingers in her mouth when she's hungry, dp thinks she's amazing! (as do i of course).
He was on the phone today and she said in the background......'eee-oooo dada' Dp was SO excited, she said hello Daddy, did you hear she SAID HELLO DADDY!

pjsmum, so glad you are all snot free
starlover, know what you mean, i'm aranging a little dress up party for Amelia (kind of cheating as dd1 wanted a dress up party but she'll have nearly 25 kids there so i've persuaded her that a small dress up party for Amelia and then a big wacky type party for her.

Can't beleive Amelia is nearly one
