New Year - New Thread!!

Hope you all had a lovely festive season!

I went for a nice walk in the park today as it was lovely & sunny. Sneezed violently half way round and realised my pelvic floor integrity ain't what it used to be. Which got me thinking about New Years resolutions!

  1. DO MORE PELVIC FLOOR EXERCISES!!!
  2. Get Toned and Fit
  3. Get pregnant
  4. Sort out the garden

Obviousy number 3 may have an impact on 1 and 2!!

OP posts:

tipex... linus is like that with eating atm.
he;'ll be desperate for food... whinging at the gate while i'm preparing it and then clambering to get in highchair and then he;ll just refuse it!

he sits and points at stuff on the table and won't eat until he has what he wants, which more often than not he isn't allowed, or i can't figure out what it is!

BUT... he will eat whatever I am having. ie he is refusing to eat any bread or toast atm.. but this morning he sat next to me on the sofa quite happily munching bits of my toast.

I think I am going to get him a booster seat and see if he is any happier sitting at the table with us and eating at the same time

goldstarlover · 20/02/2006 22:26

look at your controversial thread go tipex! and it;'s sparked another one too!

Hazellnut · 21/02/2006 09:16

Happy Birthday BiL's ds.... glad you had anice day (despite hangovers). We've been considering a move to earlsfield but, top of my priority list is catchment areas for hospitals and ST Georges' doesn't sound one to be near !! The only other person I know who had a baby at St G's had a caesarian and during a subsequent c-sec they found they'd put her bladder in the wrong place or something (not sure if that's possible but it was something odd like that). Hmmmm...

We have tantrums here too - usually if you're not quick enough to read the book to her that she wants !! Crying, arms flapping up and down and tears....

Talking of books, dd is loving books at the mo and am getting fed up of reading hte same ones over and over. Iknow we did this a while back (but think it was more classic books rather than ones they play with now ?!) but what books do your little ones love over and over. As a brief, they have to be doing books and her main faves are Dear Zoo, an M&S one with things that go round and up and down, the 'thats not my ...' books and a couple of animal ones (baby einstein and a tiny one). We have some other classic board books - hungry caterpillar, peepo....

Blondeinlondon · 21/02/2006 18:46

Hazellnut - I think in London they don't much care which hospital you pick. Local friends have been to Chelsea & Westminster, Kings, St Georges and St Thomas

We are not really into books here but DS likes the ones with photos in esp Bright Baby ones and a DK lift the flap farm animals

Linus adores books... I seem to spend most of my day with him on my lap reading the same ones over and over! lol

his favourites atm are
hungry caterpillar
dear zoo
playtime peekaboo
wibbly pig
i won't bite
some of the amazing baby books
anything with things to touch/flaps etc

Hazellnut · 21/02/2006 20:46

thanks all ! Will have to get myself to a book shop and have a look at some of the ones you mention that we don't have - any excuse !! We seem to have bought loads but a lot of them are classics which she will grow into. We too have a houseload of books so just hope she does share our love of them. Mind you, I always envisaged by now we'd be reading her a bed time story but last night was the first time I managed it without her picking up the book and throwing it down or some such. Tonight however, I got half way through mr strong and she took it from me and shut it and didn't want anymore. hmmmmmmm....

Hazellnut · 21/02/2006 20:51

Here's a recommendation in return - as I said in my original post one off dd's faves at the mo is an M&S one she got for christmas or birthday and has lots of different things to do. She has an ABC one but this is the same thing Anna's book recommendation

Phew, I think this thread might be the only safe place to be on MN at the mo! What are they all on?

Well, ds turned 1 last week, and learnt to crawl, so the gates have gone up here. Its quite nice not to have to provide him with toys though. So far dd hasn't got too cross with him. He also seems to respond to the word "No" which is a pleasant surprise, long may it last.

Books - hmm - he likes the "That's not my Bunny" range of books, or anything with feely bits. He also rather likes the newspaper.

I've been reading all your birth stories - yikes! Am relieved that I don't ever have to do that (if I have another one its definitely coming out of the front opening).

futurity · 22/02/2006 09:25

what have i missed...is it all kicking off on MN?

Books...Sam likes any books with flaps on..and hates all others as he gets bored v quickly! Favourite is Dear Zoo!

futurity · 22/02/2006 09:26

forgot to say..Sam's had hand foot and mouth disease...new illness in this house which involved alot of blisters but they are all dying down now thankfully

Angeliz · 22/02/2006 09:43

futurity, poor Sam hope he's on the mend!
fruitful let the fun begin dd is determined to get up the stairs!!

Well she is 1 today! WOW. I am going to post my Birth recall soon if she doesn't wake but am trying to catch up with you all first as i've not been on here for ages. I have spent ages decorating the house and it's all pink balloons till Saturday as dd1 is 5 too on Saturday so they'll stay up. Am knackered already and her Party isn't till 4 (when School finishes) She loves her bike, will post a pic later and have a fab cake from Asda with dd1, Amelia and Fifi flower in too
Amelia seems to love all books but has really gone for the Mister Men and Lillte Miss books as dd1 has lots, i think maybe it's cause they're easier to hold. She is hilarious as she actually tries to read them. She opens to a page, puts it right up to her face and makes smacking (talking) noises with her mouth. She has been getting a story since the word go really as she gets her last bottle when dd1 is getting her story so she'll be well up on the routine.
Tipex, hope ds is feeling better soon, just read about him
Tantrums ? Well Amelia is very stubborn, her current thing is climbing up at the T.V, i raise my voice very staernly and say NO and she just stares at me and carries on with an 'am a bovvered?' expression on her face

sweetbean · 22/02/2006 12:15

Hi Everyone
I haven't been on for ages as life has just been one huge whirl wind dd had her birthday on sataday 18th so lovley but ended getting my self in a total state about the birthday cake with looked beautiful in my head but sadly looked a lot less beautiful when i made it!! But hey im over it now
And in the last week we have decided that we are moving from Somerset to Cardiff and have found a lovley flat but due to dh's work we have to be there on 1st march
So not a lot of time for MN at the moment

I hope that you are all well sadly i have not had time to read through all the posts but i hope that sam's scabs clear up soon ! i hope that i get a chance to post a few more times before the big move xxx

Hazellnut · 22/02/2006 13:21

Happy Birthday amelia and belated happy birthday Fruitful's ds and Sweetbean's dd !! Hope Sam is better soon Futurity - sounds horrid.....

pjsmum · 22/02/2006 14:18

Well dd was one yesterday. Managed to have a good day despite the chicken pox. Lots of presents, she is so spoilt. DP went back to toys r us yesterday as the ball pool didnt have 100 balls in and came back with a trike for her! Eaten far too much of her cake but hey who cares. Hopefully dd can go back to nursery tomorrow all spots are lovely and scabby now.

Angeliz · 22/02/2006 20:41

pjsmum, gals dd had a good day, and other babies i've missed! I am shattered, we had the party and Amelia loved her pressie, smothered everyone in kisses and is tired out and happy. What a good day+

here she is.

Hazellnut · 22/02/2006 21:07

Happy birthday PJ !! Can't be many of the little ones left now....

picnikel · 22/02/2006 21:15

Probably just dd - I remember me & Angeliz being the only one left on the antenatal thread for what felt like AGES!

Have you been ski-ing yet HN? We're off this weekend, apparently there's been lots of snow . Hope dd copes with the nursery as she's not too goood with strangers at the moment - will probably spend the first day settling her in!

Hope the ill babies are feeling better soon.

What's everyone's best memories of the first year (apart from the obvious when they were born )??

Hazellnut · 23/02/2006 09:24

Nik - we're off in two weeks. Can't wait although not looking forward to leaving dd in the nursery. Am sure she will be fine as she'll be with 2 other children she knows very well but as I'm not used to leaving her it'll be hard. Am sure once the first day is over it'll be fine - the few times I've left her at the she's had fun but then jsut sulked with me so could be in for a sulky week .

Will have a think about the first year's highlight !

Eventually i'm going to post to you lot and myself a quick reminder of Amelia's birth. I had woken up during the night with mild cramps but knew she would come the next day. DD1 was in bed with me and i do remember feeling incredibly sad that this was our last night together.
At 6 ish i got up and told dp it was starting, he jumped out of bed like there was an earthyquake and i told him to calm down i had ages. Rang Mam and we got ready and went in to hospital around 8. I said i'd hold off on the gas and air and then changed my mind and got it. Was 5 cm's dilated (and felt slightly peeved as i'd been 7 with dd1 and i though it would take that much longer but they'd told me to go in as i had quick Birth first time) Anyway, just when it got unbearable, 10ish, i asked for the midwife to examine me before i took any drugs and she said it wasn't neccessary as she'd done it pretty recently, i knew otherwise so didn't take the drugs. I left it a while and then realised i was bleeding quite a bit, then she examined me and said "Oh do you feel like pushing?" YES! DP had of course gone to renew the parking ticket at this point so the midwife said something about waiting to break my waters for dp or he'd miss it.
9 minutes later Amelia was born!

Beautiful little black haired girl just like her sister.+
Oh if i wasn't pregnant again i would be by tonight after writing that!
