New Year - New Thread!!

Hope you all had a lovely festive season!

I went for a nice walk in the park today as it was lovely & sunny. Sneezed violently half way round and realised my pelvic floor integrity ain't what it used to be. Which got me thinking about New Years resolutions!

  1. DO MORE PELVIC FLOOR EXERCISES!!!
  2. Get Toned and Fit
  3. Get pregnant
  4. Sort out the garden

Obviousy number 3 may have an impact on 1 and 2!!

OP posts:

Do you think its time we sorted out another meet up ?

Was thinking two actually, another londony one (sorry sorry sorry) and one for those non-londony but that one will take more thought.

Londony - who fancies meeting at Kew maybe March time when the spring flowers start appearing, Goss and I are both members/friends or whatever its called so can get I think at least another person in cheap. Kew's easy to get to from anyone who can get to clapham junction (so thats you BiL and SL and Wombat I think - no excuses ?!!)

Any thoughts for an inclusive meet up - where would be convenient for all - any one any ideas ??

Gosh need a lie down and/or a drink after all that thinking....

Blondeinlondon · 10/02/2006 21:13

Hello all

Illness still lingering for me and DH but DS seems okay now. At least it's the weekend now

Jolly4 - hope Katy enjoyed her birthday

SL - hope Linus is okay and not looking too bashed, bless

Kew sounds like a nice idea for a meet up. Weekday I assume?

pjsmum · 11/02/2006 11:07

Hello all
Sleeping has gone to pot again. It was good whilst it lasted.
Question- when changing to cows milk have you just swapped straight onto it or introduced it bit by bit. I thought maybe making her first bottle tomorrow half formula and half cow milk. Is that ok? Sorry if i sound a complete idiot. Hope all is well with everyone else and last weeks birthday celebrations went well for everyone.

I don't do meet ups but it would be lovely to meet you lot. I'd love Amelia to meet your little ones too.
Can't see it though as i'm many miles away up North. (Mind you, dp would have me in London every wek with him if i'd go!)

Tipex, hope your guests don't stay too late. You're very brave as i just couldn't be bothered at the moment!
(BTW, i feel really cheeky but can you re-assure me about something AGAIN. not tonight, i see you're busy)
Amelia had Men.c at 11 months so one more and she's done right?
Also she is due to have her first Hib at 13 months so she'll only need the one right?

I am going to ask my G.P but thought you's know too++ (Sorry, feel terrible asking work questions when you come on eher for a breaK)

picnikel · 12/02/2006 08:26

Hi all,
Feeling a bit more chipper today as had a lie-in - dd up at 7.30 instead of 6am! Feel like a new woman (though if you'd told me a year ago that 7.30 would be a lie in I'd have laughed in your face!).

Tipex, did you see Aloha's article in yesterday's Times about how she sorted her non-sleeping baby?? Mind you it did seem to involve a live in nanny & cold hard cash..... Hope you had a nice evening last night & your friends didn't stay too late.

Re meet ups - who are the Oop North folk & where are we? I'm Edinburgh. I'm going to be in London over Easter but that maybe won't suit people very well for a meet if you're doing family stuff.

Happy Birthday to all the birthday babies. I am going to feel shamed into making dd's cake myself at this rate!

gossifer · 12/02/2006 11:33

hello and happy sunday to all

i'm looking through the recipe books for a cake for next week for the party, have ordered some bubbly and am thinking about balloons, what fun!

meet up sounds great, count me in, i work mon and tuesday now, so it would be great if on a different day
kew sounds lovely too!

well leon is back and well and eating like there's no tomorrow, still no sign of walking though!

tipex, how was your dinner?

starlover, i love your story! how's the bump?

news news, i'm coming off the pill and we'll see what happens!!!!!! have to find a house to move to now!!!

Glad there were some better nights lasat night - lets hope it continues !!

Right meet ups -

  • Nik, are you around longer than just good friday to bank hol monday ? Not sure when easter is but if you are around the thurs before of the tues after perhaps some of us may be able to meet up then ??? Have just googled to find easter is mid April so...

  • Shall we do Kew in March as I said, and then we can maybe do a second meet up somewhere in April if we can fit in with Nik's plans. I can't do 11-18 March and Weds/Thurs best for me too Goss so anyone else have dates/days to avoid ??

  • further North, Oxford sounds good - how does this sound for other people up north ? Is it too far south for the likes of PJsmum/Roosmum and any one else in teh north ??

Had the NCT babies 1st birthday party today - was lovely, one of the mum's works in cakes and had a big number 1 with all the babies names iced on it which was fab !!

Hazellnut · 12/02/2006 20:13

oh and great news Goss ! Good luck !

Angeliz · 12/02/2006 20:15

Thanks Tipex.
I guess every could does have a sliver lining in that, at least she'll only need the one now. (fat too late for my liking though, have been worried sick)
Glad yur dinner went well and bless your DP! I had a wee lie in too. We've been shopping all day for the safest car seats.
I walked out of a fish restaraunt today, we had sat, ordered and they assured me they'd heat Amelia's dinner. I had to ask 3 times and then the waiter said' Oh we can
t heat it in the microwave, Health and safety bla bla!' i just stood up and dp followed. The manager practically jumped on me at the door, 'is there a problem?' and i said, "We are a family, if she can't eat here, we can't eat here' and walked out.
Man there's nothing like pregnancy to give it the edge!!
Agree about the sleep training thing. I couldn't bear it, i can't even leave her to cry with DP!!
Not having a go to those who are at the end of their tether and try it but it's something i couldn't do!

Gossifer, so glad Leon is on the mend

starlover · 12/02/2006 21:04

heya everyone!

tipex.... glad dinner went ok and you had a reasonable night! I can't remember now, but does ds take a bottle at all? Can DH do any night/bedtime/morning feeds?
I know one thing Aloha's night nanny did was NOT lean over the cot, because apparently then they think you're going to pick them up... I think she said she would lie/sit on the floor beside the cot and reach through to comfort cecily etc etc
No idea if it works but it mihgt be something to try.
Do you think ds is definitely hungry in the night? or is it just habit? We had a short phase of Linus waking out of habit for a feed... had a couple of not that nice nights where I just cuddled him back to sleep (took ages though) and after a few nights he went back to sleeping through again.
Probably all stuff you've tried, but just wanted you to know I am thinking of you!!!
ooh and gklad ds had a nice birthday and nct party... sounds lovely!!! specially the cake

nik... another one with a good night! hurrah!

gossifer... glad Leon is on the mend. Don't worry about the walking...as soon as he does it you;ll be wishing he wasn't! trust me! lol
and good luck with the TTC! am v envious of you and angeliz and nik!!!!

angeliz... good for you in restaurant! I can kind of understand the rule about m/waves, having worked in catering ... but there is no reason why they can't heat it in hot water etc etc and about messing you about and saying they could when they couldn't! can't stand it when things like that happen to me. Had a similar thing with a pair of shoes yesterday but won't bore you with details (we weren't heating them though! lol)

soooooo we're putting in an offer on a house tomorrow! need lots of finger crossing and positive vibes from everyone! it's perfect for us and I REEEEEEEEEEEEALLY want it!

meet-up wise well I am pretty easy. Am up for a meet at Kew whenever (may I invite Lockets along?) and also Oxford... thinking i may stay overnight and have a little trip of it! have no idea how far it is from here! lol
erm..... easter week is fine by me if that makes it easier for Nik, no plans as yet!

picnikel · 12/02/2006 22:03

Fingers crossed for the house SL!

Only in London for a flying visit - good friday to easter monday, probably not a lot of use for a meet. Also will be staying with sister rather than MIL so for once will actually be happy not to have an excuse to get away [evil DIL emoticon].

Blondeinlondon · 12/02/2006 22:23

Hi all

I should go to bed but couldn't resist a quick post
Hope everyone has had a good weekend. DS & I went shopping with my best mate today. Finally got an outfit for next weekend's wedding.

SL - good luck on the house

All the ttc's - you are so brave! I am reliving DS's birth at the mo so that is putting me off!!!

starlover · 12/02/2006 22:42

hi BiL... glad you had a successful shopping trip!

I didn't have the best birth with Linus, but kind of want to do it again so i can do it better iyswim?

maybe i am just a glutton for punishment?

Hazellnut · 14/02/2006 09:40

I see things are going well with the house SL - fingers crossed for a swift completion !!

Glad you got your outfit BiL - I need to start thinking about an outfit for a wedding in June but I WILL have lost weight by then so can't get anything now - HA HA HA.....

ALso know what you mean about reliving the birth a year ago - it was all a bit strange round dd's birthday as we kept saying things like 'oh a year ago I was admitted into hospital' etc etc... and although I want to think about ttc soonish am not sure I want to go through all that again !! At least they are worth it....

Right am going to start a meet up thread about the Kew meet up - sorry we can't coordinate with you Nik when you are down but let us know when you are down visiting again. And if anyone else gets to London and has some spare time let us know.

Will wait until any one else from the grim norf gives their views on meeting up - didn't realise you were in the north too Angeliz, where abouts roughly ??

DD is sporting a big bump on her head after an argument with her trike - not quite sure what she was doing but its fair to say the trike won . I also forgot to shut the stair gate this morning - was busy in the kitchen and thought it had all gone quiet, came to look for dd, couldn't find her and found her merrily half way up the stairs very pleased with herself..... was very stupid of me at myself.... Ah well no harm done and will make me remember !!

Hazellnut · 14/02/2006 09:45

Feb05 (+Lockets) meet up at Kew thread

roosmum · 14/02/2006 09:45

a quick hello from me...

at goss - good luck hun!

i'm in york, as i think most know, so large amounts of miles from the smoke. where are you angeliz, north??

how's this for awkward, it'd take longer to get to oxford than to london for me (was at uni there, have done oxf-york trip many times). about 3 1/2 hrs minimum iirc. think roo wd go spare on 4ish hour one-way journey!

will look out for aloha's article..but sssh, roo slept through last night, randomly, after lots of bad nights. curious to see what happens tonight!

to all, esp SL hope you get great house news soon!

roosmum · 14/02/2006 09:47

ooh hello HN, took so long writing that post (stopping 1/2 way to play w. roo!) that you'd posted in meantime...

W0MBAT · 14/02/2006 16:44

Not posted for a while as have been busy organising dd's birthday party. Attempting to make a cake but not going too well. Think I might end up nipping to Tesco instead.

Hope you are all well. The meet-up sounds great. I can get to either Kew or Oxford. I will have a look at your meet-up post Hazellnut.

I am going to a wedding in June too and that is my goal for getting back to my original weight. Having caught the infamous vomiting bug at the weekend, I've lost quite a few lbs!

Angeliz, well done walking out of that restaurant. I can't believe they weren't more helpful.

Tipex, hope your ds continues to sleep well.

SL and Hazellnut, sorry about your babies getting bumps. DD has one too after banging her head on the side of the coffee table. She's usually quite stable but has started to let go when holding on to things.

Starlover, good luck with the house. Hope your offer gets accepted. If they say no, try to avoid getting straight back to them with a higher offer unless you know there are other interested parties. I say this because with our house, our offer was refused initially and we couldn't afford to go any higher so we just left it. 3 weeks later, they called and asked whether we were willing to put in another offer. We said ok and put in a lower offer, which they accepted .

starlover · 14/02/2006 20:43

righty ho... well our offer was accepted and we were VERY excited! but have just found out that our mortgage lender won't lend us the money now because the house isn't a standard build (it has a concrete whatever!)
sooooooo we are now umming and ahhing over what to do! we can get another mortgage, which is more expensive, but i am worried about selling it on!

will update as and when we make any more decisions! lol

will those from oop north be coming down on the M1? is there anywhere obvious that we could meet up that would be easier to get to?

off to have a look at maps now!

Happy Birthday Tipex-ette !! The first birthday thang is quite emotional I agree !

Hope the separation anxiety gets better - we have the whole 'prefer mummy' thing here too. DH gets a bit upset when he is comforting her and she reaches out to come to me. I guess its normal.... and they will grow out of it [hopeful emoticon]

goldstarlover · 15/02/2006 20:06

glad party went well tipex!

we have NO attachment things going on here. Linus is still happy to go to anyone or anything and mosey around doing his own thing.
He'll happily wander off and play with other children without caring if i'm even in the room or not!

Actually I feel a bit unwanted!

Angeliz · 15/02/2006 20:36

Tipex, glad the Birthday party went well.
DD1 went through a stage where she wouldn't be with Daddy at all. She adores him now and the last few months have seen a brand new routine where he gets her to bed with stories of Fairyland, (when we moved to this house we discovered a pair of black wrought iron gates hidden in the bushes inh the corner of the garden. It's Fairyland don't you know! ).
Amelia has always been a bit clingy with me, some days more so than others but she usually goes to Dp, howvere if i'm in the room, i win hands down! Hope your DP isn't too down hertened, it's just a phase! One of many i suppose! My DP works away every week sometimes 2-3 or 4 days so DD1 had to get used to him reappearing, as does dd2. Guess it must be a wee bit confusing.
Starlover, have you decided about the house yet? Are you definately going for it?
