Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
me23 · 27/01/2012 11:59

Today is my birthday! I am 30, this depresses me somewhat Hmm

Great news about rolling purple here's to many more milestones coming soon :-)

stealth I'm flad the cc worked so far am anxious to know how last night went, as I am on the verge on doing it but am not clear about a few things if any one can help I would appreciate it.

1, E falls asleep on the boob , how do I stop this/? do I go in cold turkey with the cc or wean him off night nursing first.

2, I understand putting them down awake then using cc till they fall asleep but what about when they wake during the night do you feed them first then use cc or just do cc?

StealthToddler · 27/01/2012 14:24

Hi all
well last night was AMAZING!!!
So we have spent the last month or so up pretty much every hour, comforting O to sleep (he has been pretty ill with ear infections and constipation). Last night we did CC and he SLEPT THROUGH from 8.15-5.45 am!!!! he normally has 1 or 2 feeds in the night and he didn't even wake for that, or wake up when DS2 had a nightmare about ladybugs coming in through his window and into his bed (where he got that from I don't know!!).
As I mentioned in a previous post we had a grand total of 17 minutes crying across 3 attempts at getting him to sleep - each time he was calmed down then put back down to sleep wide awake, then we would leave for a few minutes. We were expecting to have to go back in and repeat in the night but no need! It was basically cold turkey!
At 5.45 he came in to bed with me and bf in bed and fell asleep till 6.50.... I don't mind the morning bit.
As DH pointed out, the 17 minutes worth of CC was an awful lot less crying than we had over previous nights when trying to comfort him to sleep when he would wail and wail!
It felt like a horrible decision but I think it is for teh best, particularly as I felt that I was getting too exhausted to actually enjoy any time with the kids and was not being any fun with them anymore.

I took a half day holiday this morning to take O to playgroup and take the big boys to nursery and have lunch with them - the world feels a much happier place today!

Me happy birthday - you are a young 'un! I feel terribly old as will be 38 this year! If you want any hand holding with CC I'm there! CC does not have to be putting them down and leaving them crying for hours on end - I am SOOO anti that!

Lozario · 28/01/2012 10:14

Hello, happy saturday everyone. Today our mission is to source a van for moving a bed from our house to my mum's new house - we've picked up the keys for her and she's moving in on Tuesday! From 5 hours away by car to 15mins!! Still can't quite get my head around how much easier this will make my life?!

me happy birthday. I remember nothing of being 30, even though it was only last year. I think that's because I was either pregnant (got pregnant with Lara the week before my birthday) and then had a newborn, so is all a haze. 32 this year and feel like I lost a year somewhere?!

stealth that's amazing, you must feel a lot better for that good sleep. I agree that CC doesn't need to be leaving them to sob for hours - it sounds like you did a version of what we did, just trying to get them happy in their cots is the key I think. We've got to the stage that when the kids wake up now (usually around 6.15ish) we can leave them chatting and playing for half an hour whilst we come around. Feels like we are through the worst now somehow. Hey you can crack on with number 4 now!!! ;-)

purple congrats on the rolling Bethan! That's fab. I can still count on one hand the number of times Lara has rolled! Still not crawling though.

Was going to write more but DH needs computer for finding a van for this blooming bed we've had piled up in our room for a million years!

Have good wknds xxxxx

Lozario · 28/01/2012 19:20

Ooh and I forgot to add - all of a sudden Lara has 8 teeth!! 4 came through last week!

highlandbird · 29/01/2012 10:36

Purple that's fab news about Bethan rolling, you must be so chuffed!!!

Muser eek, birthday party, can't believe our LO's are almost 1, where's the last year gone??? We're going to do a little birthday tea here as well, shame its not the best time of year to do something in the garden (spare cleaning the house, he he!!)

Me hope you had a nice birthday, I'm also 30 in a couple of weeks, for a rare treat me and DP going for a meal just the 2 of us....first time since my birthday last year!! Did you do anything nice??
With regards to cc, we unfortunately had to go down this route, we went cold turkey with the not feeding to sleep. stealths cc method sounded pretty good, unfortunately picking Angus up just made him more angry so we started with going in every 1 minute then 2 mins then 5 mins up to 15mins and patted him on the back, reassured him etc. Felt horribly cruel but within a couple nights he was sleeping through. Until then he was in bed with me, waking 10 times a night, biting and kicking and screaming in frustration so I felt we had no other choice....let us know how you get on and fab news stealth that O has started sleeping for you, such a relief eh?

Lozario fab news about your mum moving close by to you, am quite envious I would love to have some family nearby!

Sam how's Cassie doing?? Hope she's feeling better.

our exciting news, we decided to go on holiday so are looking forward to 2 weeks of sun in lanzarote in feb Grin ,sooooooo fed up of rain here, DP saw a statistic last week that we had 20 dry days the whole of last year where we live!!! I know its the west coast of scotland but thats ridiculous!!!
Hope you're all having a lovely weekend, we've been full of cold here but can't really complain after reading what some of your LO's are going through!!!

Busy making wedding invitations in front of the fire...or procrastinating as the case may be!!
Bye for now x

eversomuch · 29/01/2012 10:44

Eek, it's been ages since I've posted. S is ten months and nine days old now and last week she started climbing up the stairs. Started with just one or two, but within two days, she was practically running up them she'd gotten so good at it! I think she's about to get some new teeth finally -- I'm pretty sure I see the faintest hint of a white tip on her upper gum, but it's taking a long time. Maybe she'll follow Lara's example, Lozario and have several pop through at once. Otherwise, she's growing and eating and sleeping really well, so I feel incredibly fortunate that things are going so smoothly right now and I'm enjoying it while it lasts because it surely can't go on like this forever, right? :)

stealth Glad O responded well to the CC and I hope you all have many more lovely long nights of peaceful slumber.

Happy belated birthday, me. Hope you had a brilliant day. No talk about getting old, please -- I'll be turning 40 this summer!

Good luck with the menu planning, muser. It can be tricky figuring out quantities for such a large group. It helps if you try to visualise what a plate of the food you want to offer will look like. We had a party for DH's 40th last month I think we were 12 adults and a handful of kids 2 and under. We had six different dishes, plus a cheese board and a cake, and there were leftovers (which meant I didn't have to cook much for a day or two yay!).

purple Great news about Bethan! Yippee!

ckny1 I know what you mean about the crawling. It is just too cute. I'm constantly amazed by how much deeper in love I fall each day with this little girl of mine.

Holiday sounds absolutely lovely, highland. Enjoy, enjoy! I'm in visa limbo with the Home Office, so am in an extended period of "house arrest" -- may not get my passport back for another 5 or 6 months, so not venturing far from home anytime soon.

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend.

Oh yeah, should mention I did a name change; was edeluna.

me23 · 29/01/2012 14:31

Thankyou for the birthday wishes Smile I always envisaged my 30th being marked with a big party but no not now we went out for lunch dd was at school then had cake later. OH bought me a spa day at the sanctuary in covent garden he also bought the same for his sis (her birthday is 1 day before mine) so we are going to go together which will be nice.

Also I would love to go out for dinner just me and OH but like you highland we don't have any family near by, but OH's sis is going to come down in a few weeks and hopefully babysit (have never left ds with anyone before, and as he wakes in the evening only boob will get him to sleep, so will have to wait until cc is done till we can risk leaving him)

we haven't started cc yet as E has a cold so not really fair to start it until he is better. He was up for the day at 4.30am today Sad I tried for an hour to get him back to sleep by 5:30am I gave up as he wasn't having any of it.

eversomuch have you namechanged? as I don't recall you? sorry if you haven't my brain isn't up to much these days Hmm

I have lost 7lbs so far on sw, however with the naughty cake and cream and lunch out think I might put on weight this week.

pettyprudence · 29/01/2012 21:12

Me & Highland I'm 30 in a couple of weeks too! No dinner plans here due to lack of baby sitter but going away with the WHOLE family and I intend to make my birthday all about ME ME ME ME ME ME Grin Jealous of your spa day Me Envy and your holiday highlander

My dad is v pissed off that his 70th birthday got overshadowed last year by A arriving the day before and now I want to have A's first birthday tea party on my dad's birthday too (far more convenient to have it on a weekend!). I know he loves him really Grin but he is way too easy to wind up and I can't resist it....

Congratulations Lozario on Lara's teeth and your mum moving so near by! oooh think of all the babysitting that could be done....

Gah everyone's posts are making me Envy (but also happy for you all too Smile)

sam26oscar · 31/01/2012 14:03

Ahh listen to all you young'uns Grin, i'll be 42 this summer!! So glad to hear about Bethan purple I have the dreaded dentist on both those thurs petty and purple have to have root canal treatment and its fair to say i am bricking it!!!
Congratulations on your weight loss me am trying to be healthier but it is only a half hearted attempt to be honest Grin!!
stealth glad it CC seems to have worked for you, we do that if assie wakes during the night and 9 times out of 10 i will have got my dressing gown on and then its silent!!!
Well, cassie went back to the cranial osteopath yesterday and she is loads better Grin. Apparently there are wells in the top of your head that fill up with mucous and drain but hers weren't draining properly, she also has small well pools of gunk in her sinuses which need to drain then she should be back to n ormal. The amount of snot thats been coming out of her has been amazing! I have even had to buy tissues, i usually use muslins!!
Well, shes kicking off upstairs which she seems to do after an hour so have to eat the rest of my lunch later Sad!!

pettyprudence · 31/01/2012 15:53

Urgh sam bad luck on the root canal treatment! I need it too but keep putting it off which is stupid really as I should get it done now while its freeeeeeeee! Whats the Thursday after then - is it something like the 15th-ish? Are we all free then?

eversomuch · 01/02/2012 10:09

me Yes, I namechanged: was edeluna. Apologies if my announcement was sort of buried in my last post. Congrats on the weight loss, btw. That's so great.

I'm feeling so out of shape these days but am just finding it so difficult to find time to exercise. Really need to do it, though, as I'm sure it would resolve some of the aches and pains I'm feeling. DH got me a voucher for a massage for Xmas, which I need to schedule soon. I'm hopeful it will relax some tight muscles and help me feel less blah. This cold weather isn't much help, is it? I just want to stay in and drink tea.

DH has been knocked flat with the flu and I'm sooooo grateful that I had the foresight to get my flu jab back in September -- I'm feeling fine nearly a week after exposure, so doubt I'll get it. Yay! (Poor DH, though.) S has a slight fever and is a bit more chilled out at the moment, but I'm hoping it's teething-related, rather than anything more serious. She does have a cough, however, so we'll see. She's never been ill, so this is a first for me!

Glad to hear Cassie's doing better, sam. I've no experience with osteopaths: what exactly do they do to drain the mucous? Sounds like amazing results. Good luck with the root canal. Ouch.

Stay warm, everyone!

Lozario · 01/02/2012 16:22

Taking two seconds whilst my two PLAY QUIETLY TOGETHER WITH PUZZLES. I'm trying not to make any sudden movements....

eversomuch good thinking on the flu jab. Flu is worst thing ever. And as for exercise... I'm kinda thinking running after these two is enough exercise for me at the moment - having said that I REALLY miss running. I'm back to my regular weight but my tummy is a mess. Apparently "the plank" yoga position is the best for toning your tummy. I'm going to try that every day from now on... I promise....

sam urgh root canal you poor thing! Hope you can get an extra pair of hands for a day or two whilst you recover?

Lots of spa days and massages going on for people, v jealous - think I may have to book something for end of Feb as a treat for myself!

Ok peace is over - DS lying on me on a cushion and the baby is crawling backwards and getting very cross about it. On the more cheery front, my mum is settling in quite nicely, I'll make a Sarf Londoner of her yet!

(Does anyone have snow yet? Think we're getting it on the weekend. It snowed a bit yesterday and DS asked where Santa was. Gulp.)

me23 · 02/02/2012 18:12

Right I think we are starting the cc tonight, as I just cannot take it any more last night E woke up at 1:30am for an hour then was up for the day at 4:30 and I have to be up for work at 5:30 Sad I just can't function on so little sleep. I;m dreading cc a bit as I have been mostly babyled so far but for my own mental and physical health I need to take some action. wish me luck OH will be doing the going in and checking as if I do it ds will just want feeding.

Lozario · 02/02/2012 19:17

Oh good luck me - just keep telling yourself that if you follow it correctly and don't cave, then on the other side of the weekend you'll all be sleeping all night every night (pretty much anyway!). Stick your earplugs in and stay strong - it will be worth it, you NEED your rest and so does E.

me23 · 02/02/2012 19:35

Thankyou lozario He is asleep! we put him to bed at 6:45 he cried! so OH left it 5 mins checked on himm still crying so left it 10 mins (I was in shower at this point) then checked and he had vomitted everywhere so I had to hurry up and get up of shower we changed him and quickly wiped (our new carpets!) and put him down by this point it was 7.05 and he cried but within 5 mins he stopped so we left it another 15 mins and checked and he was fast asleep albeit in a very strange position Grin I know during the night it will be harder as I won't be BF him and he had had a bf before bed tonight. I think I will sleep on sofa bed and OH will try it tonight. i just know I will be awake though worrying but I know you have to persevere and have some terrible nights to get them sleeping through and tbh it can't get much worse than it already is.

lost another lb at sw so am rewarding my self with a takeaway curry Hmm
hope everyone is well sorry about my mammoth cc post.

sittinghippo · 02/02/2012 19:56

Good evening all, sorry for the lack of posting lately, I don't know where my time goes at the moment!

Good luck with CC Me23, I hope it works for your sanity's sake!
Beth still falls asleep in her cot with a bottle of milk, and so far, the only way I've been able to get her to go back to sleep if she wakes (which is most nights, but not all) is with another bottle of milk or occasionally I can get away with giving her a bottle of warm water.
I do want her to fall asleep naturally without relying on bottle for it, but think I am going to give it a few more weeks (maybe until she turns 1) and then start making changes, as it seems to work and thankfully I rarely get dreadful nights anymore.

I had a spa day for my 30th in October, was just the best thing ever, especially after 7 months of bfing and poor posture; a full body massage, saunas and jacuzzis, pedicures the lot... Heaven. Must consider booking one on a monthly basis (I wish!)

Sorry to hear about all the snot and flu and earaches that are going around. We have mostly been very lucky so far this winter (touch wood) and the only snot seems to be from Bethany and teething. She is a snot and dribble monster most days at the moment. She has 5 teeth now, they all came through in quick succession.

Well, our big news...... Bethany is WALKING!!! I cant believe it, 10 and half months and walking. She just lets go and toddles off to another part of the room. She looks drunk and isn't all that steady, but I get so proud and giggly every time she does it. She has been doing it for about 5 days now, and each day she gets more and more self-assured and confident. I'll try and get a video and post it to the FB group. (I've tried to take a video, but typically every time I press record she lets go and falls flat on her face Smile... She is so proud of herself each time too, the beaming grin when she has walked to me is just gorgeous.

Hope you all keep warm this weekend, its supposed to get down to -10 in some parts - brrrrrr! No snow here Lozario but got my fingers crossed for some.

StealthToddler · 02/02/2012 22:03

Sending sound sleep vibes to you me!
I feel like a new woman after doing our cc with ollie.
First night he cried 5 mins 7 mins 5 mins and asleep then slept solidly till 5.45
Since the he has at most cried 5 mins before going to sleep and tonight , on night 8, didn't cry at all! He has had no night time feeds and we have only gone in to him twice when he cried in the night for 5 mins and that was because he had sat up and got stuck! He has also gone through to nearly 6.30 before coming in for a feed!
Yesterday his nanny was able to put him in bed at nap time and he settled in 5 mins and slept 1 hr 50 which is as good as he has ever done!
So we feel like new people! Dh and I get a couple of hours to ourselves after all the kids are asleep by 10 and we aren't up every hour walking a crying baby!
Ollie got a second molar this week so now has 10 teeth and is desperately trying to walk on his own but can only cruise so very impressed with bethan!
Funny how so many of us have just got to the end of our tethers and have got a bit tougher with nighttime waking!!!

pettyprudence · 03/02/2012 08:11

Well done stealth on the cc and the molar coming through at the same time! Me how did the cc go last night? I think tough love is needed sometimes - babies need their sleep almost as much as we do, waking every hour must be exhausting for them too!

me23 · 03/02/2012 21:16

Thank you all for your support! Last night wasn't too bad he woke at 2:30 am and took 40 mins to go back would have been sooner but he is in our room and us getting up to go loo disturbs him. He the. Slept until 6:30 which is amazing also today he had a 2 hour lunch time nap which is unheard of. Tonight he only cried for 3 minutes before falling asleep I hope he is ok in the middle of the night.
So glad cc has worked for you stealth I can't wait till he is sleeping through.

sitting wow walking amazing well done bethan dd don't walk until she was 16 and a half months and I don't think E is in a hurry either. He can't stand unsupported and isn't cruising. I'm not worries though as dd is perfectly fine and she did it relatively late.

me23 · 04/02/2012 13:02

sorry to clog up the board with my updates on cc but just wanted to say E slept through the night! he slept from 7pm to 6am amazing! I hope this is a sign of things come.

sittinghippo · 04/02/2012 13:06

Hoorah me23! I bet you feel like a new woman! It is amazing what a decent nights sleep does for a person Smile
Long may it continue, and thanks, its good to hear a success story for any of us who are fretting about it.

Medee · 04/02/2012 18:07

good news on the sleeping, Me.

E was getting much better at it, then we took her away to my parents and she had a nasty tummy bug, and she has been teething since we got home, so hasn't settled back to full nights. Usually walking about3-4 and taking about an hour to resettle.

She's been nearly crawling for ages, now kind of does a caterpillar like commando crawl and is getting into everything!

sam26oscar · 06/02/2012 22:45

Hi all,

Just a quick post to keep on thread!! Its late for me but we didn't get home from football training til 8pm and Dh has gone back to Arbroath now for few weeks so i have to do all the ferrying around with DS and footie training! Glad i got a girl this time am thinking of warm gymnasiums and ballet halls Wink
All well here, Cassieears seem to be much better now, Osteopath says no more appts are neceassary Grin. Her sleep was so much better after shes been to see her, all night from 7-6.30/7pm. I think she may be having some development steps comng as she is quite restless at night at the moment and has started waking during the night for a few mins and sometimes just s cuddle will do others is a bottle of milk. She is also waking during her afternoon nap after an hour ( i think not sweetcheeks) I leave her for about 5-7 mins and then she goes back off.
Anyway just seen its 10.45pm and i should really be asleep!!!

pettyprudence · 08/02/2012 13:22

Hello All!
Glad to hear Cassies ears are better Sam - how are your teeth now though?

Hope sleep is going well for those of you who have just been through CC!

Arthur seems to have dropped his morning nap and is having a post lunch snooze of 1.5-2hours (hope I haven't just jinxed that!). He is still waking up somewhere between 5.30-6am each morning, but is feeding for a shorter time and now goes back to sleep until about 8am (he let me have a lie-in until 9 this morning - god I love that boy!) so I am feeling all round chirpier!

We are trying to find new things to do now though as the friends we made at bf groups have gone back to work and although there are still plenty of mums and babies that I know there, it just doesn't seem the same without them and it feels a bit sad :( It's been quite nice trying new things but hard starting to make new friends again - feels like I'm the new girl in school!

Lozario · 08/02/2012 21:01

Waiting for OBEM so thought I'd jump on computer to say evening all. DH working in kitchen on a conf call - boring!

So still no crawling from Lara but I really think she might go straight to walking - she is happiest in her bouncer or walking/standing holding my hands at the moment. If this is the case then I hope she hurries up - my back is killing me!! Pus have been cleaning all afternoon after workmen have dusted up the house fixing our damp problem and also had a playdate for DS this morning, 3 toddlers and 2 babies. Busy day!

hippo WALKING OMG! That's amazing - post a vid on fb won't you!! Plus I am sooooooooo jealous of your spa day! My back is constantly aching at the moment but my mum told me I should book a massage for next week and she can babysit for me. Don't have to tell me twice! Can't wait for that.

me have your good nights continued? I hope so :)

stealth you're so right about the sleep tolerance level - I think everyone has their point when they think ok enough is enough!

sam funny you should say about the sleep disruption - Lara has been randomly crying out in the night but when I go in there, she's asleep. Maybe dreams?

petty you remind me of when all my NCT friends went back to work and I was the only one who didn't - I felt like the new girl at all of the groups, like you say. It's ace now, we know everyone at all of them, and now my NCT group are all on 2nd babies so I've all their company again too - it's lovely; we very very rarely have a day just us now. How is it working with the peer stuff now; are you in your "official" capacity at bf groups? (Am still planning on doing that this year)

OOOH run out of time - OBEM on now! xxx
