Lovely pictures JoJo! Hope today doesnt drag on for too long, its very tough, I remember it from the first time round, but you soon get used to it, and I used to enjoy being around grown-ups again!

honeymoon your friends wont be able to see that you are on the group as it is private, wont show on your profile and you cant view anything in the group unless you are a member. Sign up, we'll see you over there!

Halo, your nights still seem hard work poor you. At least you are co-sleeping which makes it easier to deal with, especially in these cold winter months. I cant believe we've already gone through a spring, summer and winter with them and are facing their first birthdays already, it really truly has flown by.
Beth on the whole sleeps well at night, but has been waking again, I think due to teething, she only has two, one top and one bottom, but I can see the next top one coming through now.

Sam thank you for your words! Loling at your 7yo going to sleep with a bottle. All your posts re weaning off the feed to sleep habit have reassured me a lot, you are right, so what if she falls asleep with bottle, I take it away once she's asleep. I think I'm more concerned about the natural sugars in milk, so I plan to give her a bottle at bed time while she is downstairs, then brush her teeny teeth, then she can have a bottle of water to suck on in bed if she wants it. Tough love sucks doesnt it!

Highland How is the wedding planning going? I had so much fun planning mine, I wish I could do it all over again. (but I guess that means I'd have to be getting married again which is not what i mean lol!)

Cherub FOUR??! You are quite possibly mad. Grin Ha ha have fun trying though Wink

Lozario I' glad you've taken the plunge and put them in the bedroom together. Is it nice having your own space back? I'm sure the novelty will wear off after a time. Do you put them down to sleep at the same time at night? If my two have had to share at any time, I put Beth to bed first, then take DD1 half an hour later, and she knows she has to be really really quiet so as not to wake the baby.

Muser I like the sound of the little party with family, look forward to hearing all about it. I've forgotten when she was born, I know it was Feb but without looking it up...

Petty Re: Naps. I know I am lucky with Beth, she has an hour nap during the morning, around 9.30am, then she goes down for at least two hours after lunch, I usually have to wake her in order to pick up DD1 from school. If I dont wake her she will go up to 3 hours. Its lovely. I can do all my MNing housework during that time.

Cheese Happy New Year to you too. That sounds very scary about Isobel. I'm glad it has not turned into anything. It could be hormonal I guess?

Right then, look at me doing a Jupiter-esque post and name checking you all!! Grin

Anyone heard form Purplefan lately? She hasnt posted in a while and I am wondering how her referral for Bethan is going.

haloflo · 09/01/2012 19:58

jojo Your post made me sad as i'm back tomorrow. I will miss Hannah so much. Sad I hope you enjoyed the rest of the day and enjoyed being reunited with R.

sittinghippo Beth's napping is impressive!

JoJoB77 · 09/01/2012 21:27

Halo its not been too bad, it has gone so quick today. Although i wont see Ruby intil tomoro as im staying at my parents tonight, DH is on baby duty tonight. Long story as i work so far away from home & DH isnt back to work till Weds. I hope u have a good day tomoro.

Re naps, she usually has up to an hour in the morning and then a slightly longer one in the afternoon. She fights & fights it tho, she doesnt want to miss anything!

Lozario · 10/01/2012 14:17

hippo I put them down at the same time for lunchtime nap and nighttime. I suppose because there's not that much gap between them so it's not like W needs a stop-up. I'm just amazed that it's working and am touching wood every time I mention it!! But they have a giggle and then settle down. Maybe this is a honeymoon period! It's good having space back although husband is back in our room now after 9 months on the sofa bed and I'd forgotten how much he SNORES!!!!! Shock

ckny1 · 11/01/2012 02:12

Wowsa, so many fabulous updates over the past few days, it feels like old times (that is, like last year when we were all preggers and had the time to write constantly)!

Jo, R is ADORABLE!!! I want that bear outfit! ;)

Very nice Jupiteresque post, Sitting. Hope you're enjoying married life!

Cheese, hope Iz is better and it doesn't happen again, scary and upsetting!

Cherubs and all thinking of more LOs, I'm speechless. I already feel as though I'm rushed all the time and can't imagine more...

Halo and all those returning to work, hope you're feeling fulfilled and not missing LOs too much (Jo , so sad to spend the night away from R, hope not too often). I'm still officially on ML until end Feb, though just updated my CV and will start the job search in the coming weeks. Anything related to Education will do, it doesn't need to be international anymore b/c don't want to travel w/o Franz. Really hope for pt, though daycare here is ridiculously high and nannies seem to be the way to go. Am meeting loads of good ones at Gymboree, but they're taken! :)

Am in uber-awe of the continued BFing, and the party planning! Muser, I can't imagine planning one b/c the thought of how quickly they've grown makes me so emotional!!! We're going to Germany to spend it with the ILs, which should be fun (minus the sleep adjustments both ways).

Franz continues to love NYC, and he finally discovered Brooklyn. What he really loves is singing an extended "Aaahhhhhhh" in the streets, stores, and at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Blush . The (all female) security guards loved it but some of the museum goers weren't so sure.

He FINALLY started proper crawling and sitting up 2 weeks ago, though has been walking along the furniture and the walls (very Spiderman-ish) for 2 months now. Today he stood unassisted for 5 seconds and was very pleased with himself! :) Also finally figured out how to sort one of his wooden blocks into the shape-thingy, and I screeched with joy for some reason!

Last week he finally signed the word "food", though skipped the sign for milk and sleep all together, so we know his priorities. He eats anything with great pleasure, unless you spoon feed it to him! Very stubborn, I'm nervous...

Now we need to figure out how to get that damn dummy from him during sleep time! That is the only reason why he wakes in the night!?!? Too lazy to find it in his cot.

I yelled a firm No this evening when he bit me on my thigh in the kitchen while I was cooking. Another cheeky grinner, it seems. He also bites my cheek thinking he's kissing it. Hmmm, we've started encouraging him to be gentle, but he's just so excited that it's hard to rain on his parade!

Our furniture FINALLY arrives from London on Thursday, so we are beyond thrilled to stop this camping lifestyle! Franz will have even more things to uncover in the house...stay tuned!

Medee · 11/01/2012 13:02

hello all, been a while!

E is doing really well, after a bout of chicken pox at New Year. she's trying really hard to crawl. she's having a nice long sleep just now after our return to swimming lessons this morning. I'm bracing myself for Wonder Week 46 which is apparently nearly upon us. Hopefully that and achieving crawling might make the sleeping more successful.

sam26oscar · 11/01/2012 14:17

on no medee what happens in the wonder week 46 as Cassie is that this week.?? Typical she did an 13 hr straight thru last night and now its all going to go t**s up?? Angry!!!!!! she was probably prepping herself for a week of shit sleep Grin.
Well, the HV weighed her and she is 20lbs 14oz, porker!!! She has mahoosive thighs and i love squidging them Grin.
Also told HV that she still wakes for a bottle and she tried to give me the spiel but i cut her off quite sharpish and said, if you don't mind it works for me and i am the one who gets up to her Blush. i'm not normally that blunt, but it was a HV that i don't particulary like, the other one wouldn't have said anything Grin.
Well, for the first time in a long time, i have worked with toddlers for many years Cassie has given me a cold Sad!!! So am sat on sofa MNtting and eating choc biscuits with my tea as everybody knows thats the cure for the common cold Grin.
Well, i suppose i should look for a new job really but can't be bothered Grin.
ckny1 if i lived in New York i would be your Nanny (thats my "trade")
Well, must get a tissue ..urgh!!!

me23 · 11/01/2012 15:23

wow am impressed with all the posts Smile I'm glad everyone is doing ok, sorry to hear about izzy's health scare cheese

we are still bf morning and night if I'm at work and 3x a day if i'm home plus night feed.

sleep still isn't good here, I was actually sobbing this morning as E decided 4am is a good time to start the day, it's been like this the past 2 nights normally he wakes up at 5am which is still crap but 4! THAT IS NIGHTIME, I just don't know what to do, he usually only naps once in the morn for an hour then is up until bedtime which is usually 6:30pm as it is hard to keep him up any longer as he is so tired i've tried to get him to nap at lunch time but he refuses. I'm back at work so this is unbearable.

I've fianlly joined slimming world, it's my first weigh in tomorrow so I hope I've lost.

Medee · 11/01/2012 16:03

I am not sure yet Sam, still to read the relevant chapter, MrM is hogging the box. Though I guess it is preceeded by the usual fussiness etc. Will let you know once I have read up on it.

pettyprudence · 11/01/2012 19:47

Is there something in the air? A has decided that 5.30am is the perfect time to start the day now and that naps are for losers (after previously having nice long naps). I asked the hv if maybe he was dropping down to just one long nap after lunch but she less helpfully suggested he might be on his way to dropping naps all together! Arrgghhh I live for nap time!

StealthToddler · 12/01/2012 11:07

Hi Quick wave from Cherub to say I have name changed (just to confuse everyone) after getting a bit bored with my old name, and dealing with 2 stealth toddlers over the last week who seem to be able to creep around the house and wake me up at ungodly hours in the morning....Will shortly resort to chocolate bribery....

Ollie still poorly - he got another ear infection whilst on antibiotics for an ear infection so is now on a stronger antibiotic.... fingers crossed he will improve shortly as am not sure I can take much more sleep deprivation. Am pretty much falling asleep at my desk.

Hope all is going well for those of you who have returned to work this year.
I am feeling exceptionally guilty about returning to work and missing my babies terribly!!!!

Purplefan · 12/01/2012 15:25

Wow - haven't you all been busy and posting lots!!! Great Smile
Hope all had a great Chrimbo - we did apart from Beth was poorly on boxing day for a good few days and had to have her 1st antibiotics Sad Belated Happy new year to you all.

Hippo thanks for asking after me - haven't had any apts through yet from referrals so no news yet!!! I decided to try Bethan on a jar of food that had tiny lumps in it earlier as it had been a while since we had approached any lumps at all... she retched and gagged and then was sick with the 1st tiny mouthful... so I am guessing there must be more to this than just a fussy eater?!!! Think i will just continue with smooth until we have been seen by someone now!!

Big news here is that Bethan said muma for the 1st time yesterday and was so beautifully timed as I had just turned up to collect her from her childminder Grin Such a proud Mummy moment.
Sleep still a big issue here - she fights it all the time - won't settle at all at night either wants to play or scream the place down... no middle ground. Once she is asleep (usually between 10 and 11pm) she sleeps till about 7am, which is great, but have no evenings Hmm

Sorry to hear your a bit under the weather sam - get well soon.

Me23 I still breastfeed morning and night and sometimes during the day on my days off work - was very useful when Bethan was poorly over Christmas and wasn't interested in food at all - she took all she needed from breast feeding.

Loving reading all the news and seeing FB pictures, I've got some to upload so will add some up to date ones of Beth. Can't believe our babies are nearly 1!!! - Bethan only in 3-6 months clothes and some of those are too big so doesn't seem possible!!! Wink I do have Georgie's 6th birthday to get through first!!

Speak soon Cx

haloflo · 12/01/2012 19:57

Hello all, I just wanted to say that my first day back at work was really good. It appears I pretty much remembered what to do and Hannah was fine. She is going to her Nanna's tomorrow but she loves her and i'm confident she'll be just fine there too. Hannah can survive all day without a breastfeed now - I never would have believed this when she was 6/7 or even 8 months. She fed when I came home and then just took one side at bedtime. I was tired but that was mostly because I couldn't sleep through nerves, nothing to do with Hannah waking up!

stealthtoddler No guilt here (bad mother?!) but I do just have the one.

me23 We bf in morning, after afternoon nap (or after work), bedtime and then approx 3 times in the night. I really hope he stops the 4am wake ups, that sounds awful. Could you try an evening catnap and then a later bedtime?
Good luck with slimming world.

petty Hopefully its just a phase, we need our babies to nap well into toddlerhood!!

Kagey · 12/01/2012 20:31

Belated happy new year everyone! I must try and lurk/post more.

DD2 began crawling on christmas day and found her cruising feet 2 days later, so is now a proper menace around the house. She likes nothing more than to pull down my Mum's tablecloth.

I cannot remember if I bored everyone with the details, but we had an extension done this year. I moved out with the two DD's at the end of August, expecting to move back in in November. However we had a bad dose of rogue builders and set us back a couple of months, so finally we are ready to move back in this weekend!!! I am ridiculously excited and so is DD1 as she has missed seeing DH all the time.

I am back to work on Tuesday, part time for 6 months. It shall be interesting trying to do the whole getting ready, getting them ready, getting to Nursery, running for the train, with two - it was hard enough with just DD1. However I am totally skint (thanks rogue builders) so I have to lump it.

I hope Isobel is all ok now.

sam26oscar · 12/01/2012 20:52

kagey Sad at your rough time qith the builders hope all goes well in the new extension!!

halflo glad your first day back was good, its lovely to come home and see them after you have been away Grin

purple Grin @ mumma and Sad at Bethan being poorly on Christmas day.

petty I sure hope it is a phase for you how awful i too live for the 2-3 hr naps, Cassie has dropped her morning nap and can go 4 hrs in the morning so we can go to all our groups without her dropping off Smile.

stealth hope Ollie better soon and you can fall asleep at your desk because you feel like it not because you can't phsyically stay awake Grin

Well, Cassie has her 3rd ear infection in about 8 weeks bless her cottons...another lot of antibiotics and she has conjuctivitis to boot Sad. Poor little girl she has been trying to be happy thru a temp of 39 degrees and constant runny nose. We were up for 2 hrs just snuggling last night now i know why.

I'm struggling too as i feel like shit and am all blocked uo , runny nose and sore throat and up with Cassie in the night, thats probably why i fell asleep on the sofa this afternoon whilst Cassie was napping and didn't wake until 3.50pm and then had to race to collect Oscar from gymclub ..eek!!

Well gotta go Oscar thought he would try and get the lid of my razor (which is high up on shelf) and has cut his finger....i don't know!!!!

me23 · 12/01/2012 21:27

sam I hope cassie is better soon, ollie too stealth glad bethan is doing well purple
hafllo I just don't know what to do ethan woke up at 3;30am last night and didn't go back to sleep until 5:30 then woke at 7am. evenign catnaps don't really work we let him fall asleep at 4:30pm once and he was so grumpy when he woke and made no difference.

I had a call from the HV today saying that ethans blood spot screen (the heelprick test on day 5) got lost and they never got the resutls!!! and they only just realised now Angry she said he can have it repeated but to be honest if he had any of the conditions it tests for we probably would have realised something was wrong with him by now. so I'm gonna have a think about it, also booked his 8-12 month review for next month.

Ethan randomly started clapping today I was so proud he wasn't even copying anyone just starting doing it. I'm wondering if his early wakings are linked to lots of developmental leaps he is going through at the moment? he has also in the last week started commando crawling and he babbles loads says muma dad dada and something that really sounds like "i did it" and it seems to be in context lol I'm sure it isn;'t really!

my first week and slimming world and I've lost 4lbs yay :-)

Lozario · 13/01/2012 08:33

me WELL DONE, 4lbs is amazing! Am sure you're right about the developmental stages and sleep - 9 months is meant to be tricky isn't it. Lara is definitely at a funny stage, always wanting to be standing so I can't do much else - feel sorry for DS for once as at last Lara is getting the attention!

sam poor Cassie, ear infections are so hard to shake off aren't they, I remember last year DS had about 6 weeks of them coming and going. Same for stealth - I hope they get better soon. And stealth your naughty little nocturnal toddlers - did you think you had burglars?!

Kagey crikey I hadn't realised you weren't at home for all that time, that must have been really tough, I struggle being away for a week! I hope you're pleased with the results though. Thats' amazing that she has started crawling and cruising all at once! Still no movement here from Lara!

haloflo glad the return to work has been ok.

purple Lara had her first antibiotics over xmas too, we had a really rough xmas! I wonder what the deal is with the not eating lumpy food - is there anything connected to the syndrome that you've discovered? And WOWZERS re: muma!!!!

Medee Sorry to hear about the pox but at least it's over and done with now. Was it hard to deal with? Not had it in this house yet.

petty no naps?! Nightmare! Hope they return soon!!!

ckny1 enjoy your furniture finally!! That's very impressive about the signing.

I have a TMI question re: periods - I'm now on my third since having Lara and they've been REALLY heavy and over a week long each! Anyone else had really heavy periods since having baby?

Also trying to get a docs appt today as Lara has a skin tag under her armpit which has got quite big - am sure it's nothing to worry about but better check. Plus will ask about periods!

Off to the park this morning for some fresh air - knackered this morning. Lara had her first bedtime meltdown since they've started sharing last night. Hope it was a one-off!!!

Have good days all xxx

pettyprudence · 13/01/2012 13:08

Well Arthur has been up since 6 today and didnt go down for a nap until 12, so I thought oooh maybe he's going to have a really big nap now but no he has woken after 40mins and is currently shouting in his cot. I am trying to use mumsnet to distract me from him and hope he goes back to sleep. I dont think its working though....

sam26oscar · 13/01/2012 14:31

petty i hope you have been distracted enough and he has gone back off! Cassie regularly woke after 1hr but i ignored her or if it got too serious i gave her a bottle in her blackened room and put her straight back to bed it ususally worked although she hasn't woken early for a couple of weeks now... fingers crossed!!!

Antibiotics seemd to have had a slight impact, although it could just as easily be the calpol and nurofen which is administered like clockwork Grin.

well once again a Brew is in order i still feel like pooh...Sad

Hope you all feelin good and have good weekends Smile

ckny1 · 13/01/2012 16:11

Petty, for some reason delayed naps often do not result in longer ones here! :( It's frustrating as that's when we they need more rest.

Lozario, my first few periods were RIDICULOUSLY heavy and lasted about 10 days! I had a very embarrassing moment at home with MIL where it was everywhere (sorry), but she was wonderful and told me that very heavy bleeding was normal after the baby. Now 6 months later they are less than before the baby. (? menopause?) So hopefully it will pass in the coming months.

Furniture arrived and Franz has a huge ear to ear grin when he saw his beautiful cot after 2.5 months! Grin Kagey, we sympathise with the dislocation feeling here.

Medee · 13/01/2012 16:55

Loz tes night after the spots turned liquidy was the worst, as that was when they were at their itchiest and she couldn't sleep for more than about 40 minutes at a time. After that she settled down, and the scabs are almost all gone now.

highlandbird · 13/01/2012 16:56

ckny hooray on the furniture, must be a nice feeling to finally get everything in order!

re: periods, I still haven't had one, am bf but only twice a day, thought they would have re-started by now?? Had the coil fitted couple of months ago so dreading the heavy periods!!!

sam hope you and cassie get better soon, and al the other poorly babies too, sounds like a few have been sick, not fun!

hippo no wedding plans here yet, am seriously disorganised but we're just having an evening do, a buffet and a ceilidh (dance) so shouldn't be to much to organise. I hope. Your wedding pics are beautiful btw, sounds like you had a great day :)

me well done on the 4 lbs thats fantastic!!

wave to everyone else!!

Just a quick one off to get our tea now. A been dropping his afternoon nap too, grrrr, hoping its just a phase. He's also now rejecting the boob at bedtime Hmm thought this was going to be the hardest one to phase out and he's doing it all by himself!!

highlandbird · 13/01/2012 17:07

cross post with Medee sounds like E had a bad time with the chicken pox, A got them early December but only had about 5 spots and a runny nose, was really grumpy for a few days but I think we got off lightly really!

me23 · 13/01/2012 19:29

highland can I ask about your wedding? as me and OH are trying to plan ours we want to do as cheap as poss but stll nice iykwim so am intersted in the plan of only having an evening buffet, how will that work with the ceromony? will there be a big gap in the day from getting married to the do? as we can't really afford a wedding breakfast so trying to look at all avenues.

superpenguin · 13/01/2012 22:45

hello everyone!
Just popped by to say hello really, I haven't been on mumsnet for MONTHS and no idea why but just thought of it tonight.
Lovely to see the March 2011 thread is still going and many familiar names still posting regularly about their little ones' progress. Enjoyed reading (just the last few pages of) your updates just now.

Thomas is nearly 10 months and doing really well, he is getting so big - had him weighed at 9 months and he was just under 11kg (24lb!) and between the 91st and 98th centile (he was just above the 75th at birth). He makes lots of noises (dadadada and occasionally mamama, ba, ga, etc), sometimes i think he is trying to sing (!) he says aaaaahhhhh going up and down a bit if you see what i mean!
He's still not crawling or anything though, but he could sit up by himself from about 5 months and loves being upright, but hates being on his tummy, he has only recently rolled over and only a few times, he can't pull himself off the floor off his tummy onto his hands and knees, i think it's cos he's so heavy! He can't pull himself up yet but if you stand him up he will stand up holding on to the coffee table and throw all the things off the table onto the floor, and he will walk around the room holding on to both my hands - i think he's going to bypass crawling and move straight on to walking.
He eats loads too, having 3 meals a day now and still 3 bottles of milk a day too (mid-am, mid-pm and bedtime), loves his food.
We've been really lucky with sleeping too, most nights he sleeps from 8pm to 8am! Just occasionally he surprises us by waking at a random hour though.
We are having lots of fun playing with his toys and it's just amazing to watch him develop.

I'm going back to work in April and looking for a childminder - i think i have found one but it's so hard making that decision who's going to look after your child, I'm sure you'll agree.

DH and I have decided to start this month TTC for no.2 so watch this space...
hopefully i won't have to work for tooo long before taking another mat leave! :)

best wishes to all of you and your babies
