Mmmm sitting my first reaction to Beth going to sleep with the bottle was to replace it with a dummy, but then i remembered that actually DS used to do the same and you know... i let him until he was about 2 i think!!! I don't really listen to HV that much if i'm honest!! They would probably have a fit if they knew Cassie still wakes for a bottle in the night and she's 10 months.. do i care what they think... not a toss.. they're not the ones trying to control cry for 3 hrs until 7am then evenutally giving her her milk when in fact if i give it to her at 4am she then has to be woken at 8am for the school run!!!

So, if i was you i would just carry on if it suits you and you only want her to give it up because thats what you think you should do, Oscar is 7 now and No, doesn't have a bottle to go to sleep with Grin!!!

I have posted a really cute photo of Cassie "helping " mummy with the dishes today!!! She is such a monkey i can't leave anything lying about and believe me after being used to doing things on my own and trusting Ds to leave alone i have had dozens of cold coffee and coke spilt all over the floor and sofa...all of which were new last year!!!!

Again not posting too long in case i lose it!!

GeekLove · 06/01/2012 18:34

Hello long time no see! Good to check in and hope that all the babies had a good first Christmas! Not long until its birthday time!
M is a high speed crawler and is HUGE. Still BF although he did bit me and it hurt. Still it healed in a couple of days so don't let it put you off too much.

Jupiter118 · 06/01/2012 21:59

Happy New Year all!! Blimey where does the time go, haven?t posted for an age, been lurking though and reading when others post. V V V lazy tbh. Don?t like posting on my phone though as have ?chipolata? fingers thus making me decidedly inaccurate.

Anyway news from jupiterland?

E is properly crawling now, having commandoed since just over 7 months. She is also pulling up to stand on anything and everything. She is v cheeky. She knows her name and if you call it she will turn to you, the same if we say ?No?, although she doesn?t usually stop, just gives a cheeky grin and carries on. I fear she will be trouble.

She enjoyed the paper and ribbons at Christmas and if DS? toys are out is not interested in her own!!!

Eating wise she is pretty good at trying and accepting most things, but incredibly lazy about feeding herself. If she had her way she would be fed everything, but compromise is we will feed her stuff that needs to be done with a spoon and then she eats the rest. She is also lazy about drinking and makes no effort to hold the cup ? little minx.

Milk ? sure she is on too much, but is offered 6oz at waking, 11am ish, 3/4pm ish and bedtime. Think the afternoon and morning ones could possibly be smaller?? Who knows ? can?t remember from DS. However?

[whispers quietly] on the whole she is a pretty good sleeper and quite content. Sleeps about 11/12 hours a night and if we are at home in the day, about 2 hours at lunchtime. Rubbish at sleeping if we are on the move, but not worried, generally count my blessings. When teething, sleep is more erratic and only two teeth so far.

She makes loads of noise, lots of babbling and different sounds. Not like DS, who was noisy, but not the variety of sounds. She just about points, waves v occasionally and clapping not a hope ? she seems to have no interest.

Weight no idea ? 2nd child syndrome and hasn?t been weighed since 15 weeks. She is growing though and ?bang on? in terms of clothes size (just moving into her 9-12 month wardrobe). Her hair is the thing though that grows fastest. Have had to trim fringe twice already!!

We also made it through DS? first term at school ? hurrah. He is in an odd phase of either being lovely or being vile and defiant. Would like more lovely. He is 5 next week ? can?t quite believe it.

sam good for you for doing what works for you re 4am feed. It all works out in the end and you have to do what gets you through. If E does wake in the night then she gets fed. Anything for an easy life. Wanted to watch OBEM, but forgot was on.

sitting again what works for you. DS has been ?tapped? on the bum on more than one occasion (he is 5 next week and has a devilish streak). With E if what she is doing is dangerous she gets ?No? followed by moving her (repeatedly) away.

petty LOL at A and his wooden spoon and saucepans!

Flo brill you still BF, well done you. Good luck with work next week!!! I had 9 months with DS and was really really looking forward to going back, this time less so, but I think that?s because I think E is our last I am back to work on 5th March (booo), but have asked to do 3 days per week instead of full time ( have been 4.5 days or FT since going back after DS). Hopefully it will all work out. Sitting as you were asking what people do? I work for a large corp law firm as a sales/marketing manager. Generally it?s ok and work with nice people (though they can be annoying as well as nice).

lozario sounds horrendous hope you are all better now. With bedrooms and sharing, no experience, but I would say just go for it!

muser E has had all kinds of things to eat that she probably shouldn?t have done. Everything in moderation I think.

cheese cherub edeluna honeymoonmummy purple 1catherine jojo kagey and any other lurkers hello! ckny glad NY is going well! geek nice to hear from you.

Right must go, sorry mammouth post (must post more often as I love to read everyone else?s updates and love it if the thread is busy.) Also supposed to be dusting, hovering and tidying as E?s christening on Sunday and 30 for lunch after (20 adults 10 kids).

sittinghippo · 07/01/2012 09:51

Jupiter I love your posts Grin You're always so thorough and mention everyone by name, must take you an age!
Hope the Christening goes wonderfully tomorrow.

I'll catch up again properly next week as am away at my mums for a few days, just a last minute getaway.

Lovely to hear from you Geek Yeowch at the biting!!

haloflo · 07/01/2012 14:17

geeklove Hannah went through a "nipping" phase, ie biting but not breaking the skin. Seems to have passed though. Glad you healed quickly and its not happened since.

sittinghippo I work as a benefits officer at my local city council. They were happy for me to pick my days and have been really good about flexible working. Housing Benefit is a complicated subject and I am looking forward to using my brain again.

Re sleep: what about a blanket that you give to her each night with the bottle and see if that can become a comforter too? Or you could also try feeding to almost asleep and gradually let her go down more and more awake? Its hard though, I don't bf to sleep but am quick to offer milk in the night if she wakes as it makes for an easier life.

I think I read its worse for their teeth when they have it in and out their mouths all night so as sam said maybe don't sweat it too much.

Muser · 07/01/2012 19:29

I'm not going to be as good at namechecking as Jupiter. But just wanted to say haloflo I has 8 teeth, 4 top and 4 bottom and no problems at all with feeding. Her latch isn't always the best but I just reposition her and it's fine. I don't have any plans to stop breastfeeding at the moment.

sam we have the milk sign here but she seems to do it for everything! I had been a bit lazy about signing but think I'll have to work on food and water so she doesn't just say "milk milk milk" all the time!

Going back to work, I am back end of March so ages to go yet. Starting to look for childminders now. Scary stuff.

What else is going on here? Umm, lots of cruising, lots of babbling, not as much sleeping as I'd like! She was doing really well before Christmas but it's all gone a bit wrong since then. Hoping she gets back to normal soon.

And I sent out the invites for her first birthday party the other day!

pettyprudence · 07/01/2012 20:35

Impressed by signing babies! Arthur just shouts..... re: teeth and bf-ing here, we are still going too with 5 teeth but A is a little bugger and is still in the "nipping" stage. Tried reacting, not reacting, removing, relatching, nothing works thankfully we only have 2 feeds per day now (1/2 a feed at 5.30am, the other half at 7.30am and 1/2-1 feed at about 3.30pm - by 1/2 a feed I mean 1 boob as Arthur has always been a 2 boobs per feed kind of man!).

Nice to see everyone back on here and the thread busy - yay!!!

JoJoB77 · 07/01/2012 22:20

Evening ladies!

Ive loved reading all of your updates, i cant believe our LO's are almost 1!

Ruby was 9 months yesterday and is becoming a right little (chunky) monkey. She has been crawling for the last few weeks and is constantly pulling herself up anything & everything. She is babbling & making 'ba ba, ma ma, ga ga' noises. She is also making 'da da' sounds much to DH's delight!

She is down to two milk feeds a day, 7oz first thing & 7oz before bed. She loves food, im sure she would eat all day given half the chance.

Im not on facebook but will put an updayed pic on my profile.

My new years resolution is to post more than i lurk!

P.S. Is anyone TTC yet or plan to this year?

JoJoB77 · 07/01/2012 22:22

Forgot to say, R has 7 teeth now, & dont i know it ...

GeekLove · 07/01/2012 22:37

Wow so much teeth! M has 4 now which I think is a lot considering DS1 didnt get any until 10 months.
prettyprudenc, haloflo, sitting hippo and jojo lovely to hear from you. I will get round to posting more on facebook but I need to print out more photos generally.
As for milk he is down to 2-3 a ooh feeds a day. However put him in bet with you and he will feed until you are like a biscuit!
It's nice not having to pump milk at work though.

OP posts:
highlandbird · 08/01/2012 09:31

hello everyone!!! wow, nice to see so many new posts on here, seems all us lurkers are getting a chance to write something at last!!!
Still bf here too, 8th tooth on way through but (touch wood) we've not had too much trouble with biting whilst feeding, however he will bite really hard on my thigh, shoulder, anywhere he gets a hold of me so we've been learning no here too, this got giggles yest though Hmm
in othern news, we finally got him sleeping (touching more wood!!) although evening still isn't great, 8-9pm is the danger zone as we call it and he'll have a hissy fit and bang his cot and protest loudly but after that now generally sleeps till 7 which is GREAT!!
We're on 3 feeds a day now, morning first thing, 3pmish and 7pm, not sure when we're supposed to start cutting down on them though?? And he'll eat anything we give him, cant seem to give him enough food some days!!
weve had lots of mamas and dadas here for a while but the most common word used is egg (for meg the dog!!) he is obsessed with her! but no cruising or anything yet, am v impressed with the mobility of some of these babies, A is a very efficient roller and commando crawler but even thats very recent, and he's not interested in hand clapping or waving, or any othr sorts of tricks either even though I keep trying to teach him!!
Glad I don't have to think about going back to work for a while, I'm an Ecologist btw and tend to do contract / self employed work, but we have a tied house with DP's job and not many bills to pay, and try to be self sufficient with food as far as possible so gonna be a SAHM for a while, maybe do a bit of field work in the summer with SIL.
Right, coffee and choc biscuits time, feeling abit rough after couple glasses vino last night....

highlandbird · 08/01/2012 09:32

oops! horrendous grammar and spelling there Blush

pettyprudence · 08/01/2012 12:00

Not just me waving and clapping like a loon then highland Grin! A just looks back at me blankly.....

Lozario · 08/01/2012 13:55

I am loving how busy the thread is at the moment! Grin

Soooo we have bitten the bullet and moved Lara in to DS's room!!!! Shock Yesterday morning we got up and decided that we'd been umming and ahhing about it for so long and everyone kept on saying, you don't know until you try... so far it's been pretty good. The nursery looks SO cute with 2 cots in there! Lunchtime nap yesterday was a bit of a disaster because they were shouting/roaring at each other, and then Lara started crying and we thought, uh oh- but then DS said "Here I am!" and she stopped!! Only had a half hour nap though as she woke with a poo, but still. It wasn't a bad start. Nighttime was fine, she usually zonks out on the boob anyway and DS's chuntering and chatting didn't seem to bother her, and she slept through til 6. It's amazing - so far, (touchwood) they don't seem to wake each other up. We bought one of those light shows that play a lullaby and stars etc on the ceiling, which we put on for 10 mins after we say goodnight. Seems to distract them from kicking off. (for now) So we'll see but so far, so good...!

Other than that, Lara still has no interest in crawling, but will clap and wave, and her best trick is, if you say to her "How does a monster go?", she goes "RAHHHHH!!!!" It's brilliant!! Grin

petty has A's empitigo (sp!) cleared up now?

hippo re: the sleeping - I can't usually stop Lara from falling asleep on the boob for her last feed of the day - I guess she's too tired for that one - but for her morning and lunchtime naps, she goes down after a story with DS, a few cuddly toys in her cot to snuggle up to and this star show thing I was just on about, which has definitely cut her fussing when going down. However she does still have a shout for 5-10 mins before going to sleep - not beside herself but certainly not delighted to be in her cot either! But if I go to her she's just even worse when I put her down again so being consistent with the star show has helped. If it's become a habit, you might have to do some tough love to break it, not sure how you feel about that? But it will work?!

jupiter Lara is on about the same amount of milk but is still BF so can't tell exactly - we do 6am, 3pm and 6.30pm bfeeds. She's also the opposite to your LO - she loves to feed herself but not so keen on being spoon-fed! And WOW to DS's first term at school - our DS starts pre-school in Sept, can't quite believe that either. I'm a bit sad about it. How did you feel with DS starting school?

highland we've developed a nightly wine habit too! Need it after Christmas chaos! With the milk feeds, I think I'm sticking with the 3 like you for the next month, then probably from about 10/11months go down to 2 (first thing and last thing) and then by aged 1 I want to be down to bedtime only. Very sad about stopping breastfeeding - Husband starting to say I should be winding down. Don't think we're having any more kids so I will be very sad to stop eventually; that bedtime feed is wonderful.

JoJo no TTC here - I think we are done! Not sad about not being pregnant again but very sad about not giving birth again - what a freak I am. But never say never I guess! Does that mean you are???

muser your girl is going to be one before we know it isn't she! What sort of party are you having?

haloflo is the sleep any better?

sam I loved the dishwasher pic! She's got such a cute, cheeky little face hasn't she. Ace tights there too Cassie love! (I've started copying my posts before I try to post them now as I have the losing-mammoth-post fear!!)

Ok a big HELLO to everyone else, I'm going to collapse onto the sofa and demolish a chocolate orange now before the kids wake and we have to go to in-laws. Hope everyone is having a good Sunday :)

haloflo · 08/01/2012 15:17

Just a quick one - where did you get your light show lozario? Glad the room sharing worked out last night and hope the naps go well today.

And no sleep is no better. Will try to post more later with a full update.

pettyprudence · 08/01/2012 15:54

Quick question to those of you whose LO's have lovely long post lunch/afternoon naps - do they have a morning nap at all? when did they start having a big nap? (can you tell i am uber Envy?) I shouldn't moan really as Arthur normally has an hour or so in the morning and then 30mins in the afternoon. Both naps seem to coincide with any organised activities eg rhyme time, baby group etc... so we end up missing them. bah.

highlandbird · 08/01/2012 18:06

he he petty yes i look like an idiot trying to get him to copy me, he gives me a kiss sometimes but never when i try and show someone!!! re naps, he still has an am and pm, am nap usually pretty good but pm nap hit and miss, he regularly does an afternoon poo that wakes him!

lozario my bf plans sound similar to yours, and yes I will also be gutted to stop, I love the closeness, he's turning into an independent rascal so nice to still feel that he needs me in some sense!!! well done on the big decision for moving LO I'm sooooo paranoid about anything disrupting A's sleep!

We're planning on TTC in July after our wedding, we have to be organised with timing because of DP's job, we can't have a baby between July and October, spring is the best time, and we don't want to leave another year.....

Halo we had a winnine the pooh light show thing that was quite good but he started whacking it when he was annoyed so we took it away!! I think they sell them in argos though.

Right, bath time then glass of wine time again Grin honestly I need it by this time of day!!!!

cherub59 · 08/01/2012 18:33

Hi all...
Been lurking for far too long. I just don't get much chance even for lurking to be honest!
Great to hear how all the little ones are doing. I would try to personalise a bit more but am in the bath with a big mug of tea whist dh gets the boys ready for bed!
O is 10 months in two days and I feel a bit like we have a new born night time sleep wise. He had a really bad ear infection over Christmas and we ended up getting the gp out on new years day! He is 8 days in to antibiotics now but is just not right so am going to try to get dr appt tomorrow. He settles fine at 7.30 then from 9pm he is up and arching his back, straining, crying and whimpering and wont settle back except for being held for at least an hour til in a very deep sleep. Then after about 2 hours it starts again. He was the same when he had the ear infection and got a bit better than has got worse again. He is also teething with 4 molars coming that I can see and keeps getting constipated!
I am working full time and dh last night said he was going to do controlled crying which I disagree with and I was too exhausted to argue so he started doing it at 3am when we had 2 hours of crying. So not the right way to do it and he is ILL. At 5am I snatched him back and put him in bed with me. Dh wouldn't normally do it but says the kids are always ill and we are both too exhausted!
Am still bf 3-4 times from 7pm to 7 am then working 8-5.30.
Won't roll but can roll and refuses to sit most of the time because he wants to stand! Absolutely gorgeous tho and makes my heart melt with all his noises!
Interesting that there are a few of us still bf as it is quite unusual by this age!
Ttc as soon as I can get I to cut down his bf as I know from experience with me that I won't fall pregnant until have stopped bf.....
Wonder who will be 1st!!Wink

Lozario · 08/01/2012 18:58

haloflo it's this one

cherub Wowzers, four kids that will be, won't it? I am seriously impressed! Hey you might even have twins next time ;-) Can't get my DH to sign off on another LO. He says he's too knackered!

petty Lara has a long nap at the same time as DS - that was my main aim, to get them napping together - but she does also need half an hour in the morning, usually 9.30-10. I always have to wake her up from this so that she'll go down again at 1, but if we've got a lunch date or something then I let her sleep on in the morning and she may have a catch up half hour in the afternoon. That's the plan, anyway - of course we have bad days here and there, like yesterday when Lara's lunchtime nap was half an hour!!!

Listening to them chatting to each other now over the monitor, very amusing!! (until it turns to crying!!)

Muser · 08/01/2012 19:01

Gosh, everyone seems to have cut down feeds quite a lot. Still 5 times a day here, first thing, 10.30am, 2.30pm, bedtime and dreamfeed. I've been thinking I should drop one of the day feeds but haven't done it yet. Might just wait another month and swap a breastfeed for some cows milk.

JoJo no TTC here until we managed to sell our flat and move somewhere bigger. I'd love to start trying now but we just don't have the space.

Lozario glad the move into one room went well, they sound lovely together! Birthday here is next month, can't believe it! We're just having a party for close family, she's too young to appreciate it so just want a chance to get the family together and celebrate the first year. I'm really looking forward to it, going to bake a cake and everything!

petty Morning nap is the long one here, often hour and a half. But I think she's dropped the afternoon nap, not had one for a few days. That's fine with me, we do more in the afternoons than mornings.

cherub hope your lo is better soon, sounds awful.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 08/01/2012 20:43

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I hope everyone is well. I have spent this afternoon trying to catch up on all your news. Its lovely to hear the babies are doing so well. Isobel continues to thrive, she is a chunky monkey weighing in at 10kg. We had a bit fo a fright on Wed when she had some blood in her nappy, it seemed to come from her vagina. Spent the day in A+E, no idea what it was and it has all settled. It was a bit scary, but we are glad she is OK.

Anyway, she continues to cruise, crawl and leave behind her a trail of destruction. Feeds she has 250ml twice a day.

Lozario glad the big move went OK, its so cute imagining them chatting away to each other. We also get RRAAAHH, but it a lion in our house Smile. Isobel is also a big fan of clapping and waving, its so lovely.

hippo could you try and do it so she is gradually more and more awake? Other than that, no idea.

jupiter we also get a very cheeky grin at the word NO! I try not to say it too often but when I caught her eating pot pourii....

Oop got to go, thats the door! Will finish off replying to everyone soon

haloflo · 08/01/2012 21:57

cheese That does sound scary. Glad she is ok and its not happened since.

cherub You are amazing, you know that don't you?! Good luck with TTC number 4. Would you like a girl or would you like to add to your gorgeous boys? Or don't you mind? Sorry to hear about O's ear infection. I hope his sleep improves soon - did your other 2 sleep though young? Do you still co sleep? (Sorry for 20 questions - no rush for your reply)

muser I used to feed at those times too (usually after H woke up) but found it was just a comfort feed and she didn't miss it. We have a morning feed, late afternoon feed, bedtime feed (this isn't very popular though) and then maybe 3 night feeds? I had to drop the mid morning feed and push the afternoon feed back for work. I am not going to express at work so needed to know H would be ok without them.

Re sleep. Well what can I say? She naps well again. That's one good thing. 2 naps. Both often an hour or so. We rarely get 2 short naps. Always 45 minutes if she is in her pram.

Nighttime she is very unsettled. Wakes every 45 in the evening at the moment, only settling if I stay with her or if we get her up. From 10ish (when I go to bed) we co sleep and she wakes 2, 3 or 4 times until 8ish. I spend a lot of time in sleep working out where I?ve gone wrong but I?m too tired to make any changes. We tried CC but I couldn?t do it. I feel awful but what?s done is done.

sam26oscar · 08/01/2012 22:09

WOW!! seems everyones resolution is to post more!!!Just a quick one! petty Cassie has a mammoth sleep usually from 1-3pm longer if i don't have to wake her to get O from school Grin. It depends what time she has got up that morningusually its about 8 am so i can drag her out til 12 going to toddlers etc, then sit her in the highchair and throw loads of different types of food hoping some will go down!!!!! Then she has 10 mins pottering and bam into bed she goes!!!
Def no TTC here!! Considered myself very lucky to have had a happy outcome with cassie so won't have anymore...and yes very very Sad when Cassie decided to give up BF at 8.5 months.
It would seem all our children think the woed "NO" is hilarious Grin.
Lozario she is very cheeky, in RL her thighs could put a rugby prop to shame Grin.
Well, we have not long come back from my sisters so am hoping Cassie will stay asleep as i transfered her from the car after having a bath at my sisters house and an hours drive home!

Looking forward to a more busy thread inn the coming weeks!

Honeymoonmummy · 09/01/2012 09:32

Gosh, busy thread! I haven't read all yet but is the FB group private or will my friends see it on my profile?

JoJoB77 · 09/01/2012 12:55

Hi all

Just a quick one while I'm on my lunch break - first day back at work today and it's going so quick. I'm missing R like mad though, feel a bit teary thinking about it but I'm sure I'll adjust soon enough.

Not got time to personalise but I've just put a couple more photos on my profile if anyone fancies a butchers.

Re TTC, not actively if that makes any sense although DH would in a heartbeat. I'd like to leave it a few more months, partly as we have flights booked to go to Cyprus in August and I really want a summer holiday without being too pregnant to fly! Selfish eh.

Anyhoo, hope all is well and in the words of the Terminator, I'll be back...
