sam26oscar · 15/11/2011 15:01

congratulations tooimmature i didn't know!!

i knew it was a mistake to leave Cassie!! she was up when we got back from the carnival! however, i was also right that she was storing her sleep as she slept very badly but she has a really bad cold and hacking coughSad. what does croup sound like? have to excuse lack of capital letters typing wiyh sleeping baby on chest!!
baclk later when ..hopefully kids all asleep tonight!!

Medee · 15/11/2011 15:50

good news, TooImm, fingers crossed the cysts clear.

Muser · 15/11/2011 18:06

So pleased for you TooIm, fingers crossed that those cysts disappear.

sam I think croup is meant to sound like a seal barking. I've been told you could never mistake it for any other kind of cough.

sam26oscar · 15/11/2011 18:23

Thanks muser she did sound just like that when she woke from her epic 3 hr sleep this afternoon but seems to have found a new lease of life Grin. I Love calpol! She's not really eating anything other than ready brek, yoghurt and milk! Is it true that croup is at night and to take them in a steamy room??? She is currently sat in a pair of knee high socks and her vest clipped up crawling around having time out of her nappy!! I have changed around 4 pooey nappies today and the same yesterday, must be teething! Well, loads od good stuff tonight on t.v. Holby and Death in Paradise so early bath and bed in this house!!

Lozario · 15/11/2011 21:23

tooimm great to hear from you! Fingers crossed the cysts go. Another girl, congratulations :)

Sam I am the worlds expert on croup because DS has had it about a million times in his two and a half years - weirdly he's been a bit croupy this arvo too! Muser is right in that it is a very distinctive barking cough like a seal - NHS Direct have diagnosed it over the phone for us before. I've taken him to for emergency docs appointments many a time. If she exhibits stridor (difficulty in drawing breath) call NHS Direct - they'll be able to tell you over the phone if she needs to go to A&E. We've never had to do that yet - but he's had it so much that we have a stash of steroids to give him if he gets it now because we know when it's serious.

Keep her in moist air - a bowl of steaming water in her room, or if it gets really bad then yes sit in the bathroom with the shower on for the steam. Also - sounds odd but often works with DS - wrap her up and take her outside; cold air often helps ease it as well. Try to stop her from crying because that inflames her airway even more. Yes it always seems to come on at night - no idea why, something to do with lying down maybe?! DS gets it at the end of a cold sometimes, has she been suffering? I hope it's not croup - my heart falls when I hear that barking hack!!!

I just watched the last episode of Educating Essex on 4oD - did anyone else watch it? What did you teachers think of it? I really enjoyed it.

Lozario · 16/11/2011 12:59

...and lo and behold, DS was up all night with croup! Lara slept through til 6 too, typical!!! Hmm

sam26oscar · 16/11/2011 14:01

Oh Lozario hope i didn't jinx you Sad.
Yes she is suffering from a really bad cold, but i think its combined with teething too as shes constantly ramming her fingers in her throat and drooling everywhere! We surprisingly had a good night last night she slept from 7pm til 5.30am onky crying out once which i sat bolt upright for then went back to sleep as did she without any help!!
Fingers crossed that she will continue to sleep well, and maybe even better once this cold passes!!

Cheeseandbiscuits · 17/11/2011 13:45

Hello everyone,

This fell off my active threads, I have prob missed so much!

Isobel is still commando crawling around. She loves pulling herself up to standing using ANYTHING - she tried to use another babies head yesterday. She is so blooming active and I can't keep up! We have 4 teeth and another 4 coming through. She was up with them from 11pm-3am. We gave her some Calpol, once that kicked in she perked right up and decided it was play timeHmm. I feel like a zombie today.

We have been interviewing for nannies / nanny share and I am hoping to appoint someone today. I am dreading returning to work in Feb already.

Re TTC, we will wait another 9 months and then get going I reckon!

Hope all the babies are doing well!

JoJoB77 · 17/11/2011 14:36

Hi ladies, sorry its just a quick one. How are ur other halves coping with the nightly wakeups from the LO's? R is teething big time and is struggling to sleep for more than a few hours. Its hard going but even more hard going when all ur DH wants to do is sleep then proceeds tp put ear plugs in!

Just wondered if all men were the same or if ive just got one that loves his sleep (don't we all?!)

pettyprudence · 17/11/2011 19:22

jojo my dh has somehow managed to sleep through most of A's night wakings. He thought A had been sleeping through from about 3 weeks......

ckny1 · 17/11/2011 19:45

Warm greetings to all from cold & noisy NYC!

So nice to have a chance to catch up on the thread finally.

Congratulations, TooImmature!!! All positive vibes in your direction for a fantastic birth and a healthy lovely little girl!

Also congratulations to Catherine! Hope DP liked the watch! :)

Sam, we're the same geriatric age...in fact, my b-day was the week after we moved and all I had the energy for was a 5pm dinner at a Mexican restaurant followed by bed by 8pm. Sad.

Franz is taking NY by storm. He actually puts a huge smile on grumpy NYers faces and everyone is always chatting with him, whether on the streets or in the subway! That said, I don't find this a baby-friendly city wrt buggies on transit, no surprise. Must use the sling and Franz weighs a ton (plus is half my height!)

His sleep fluctuates, but on average he wakes once in the evening these days. He had a smoker's cough for over a week, couldn't believe how deep it was, but he survived! He's been through a lot of changes and I think he's holding up well.

Developmentally he's still commando-ing, not proper crawling, though he hoists himself up onto anything, including me if I'm on the floor. His top teeth have finally busted through and he has a million others on both sides taking forever to pop out. Thankfully I smuggled in loads of Nelsons Teetha, which helps.

Food options here aren't as scary as I thought, though I'm sure there's more sugar in everything and I don't trust the ingredients list! Miss EU standards!

Not sure whether to cut his hair. Hmm He looks like he should be in a band from Manchester. I'm only concerned that it gets into his eyes.

Aside from that, we just got "accepted" into a gorgeous flat 2 blocks from Central Park!!!! While I loathe the Upper East Side, I shouldn't complain b/c everything's at our fingertips.

Am just overwhelmed and can't believe how exhausting this city is! Can't imagine that so many of you are considering more DCs!!! I'm so DONE! :)

sam26oscar · 17/11/2011 21:57

Hi ckny good to hear from you Smile, am very Envy is it snowing there yet?? i LOVE snow and sit scouring the internet looking to see if it will come to Weston - super - mare, although i know its too close to the sea and am constantly peeved that i do live by th sea, obvioulsy love it when its sunny Grin! How many DC do you have>> I know its on Fb but can't be arsed to open another tab!! I have 2 and would love to have another one but know that i would be pushing my luck at my age to have a healthy pregnancy, also i don't know if i could go thru another c-section as the last one really hurt.

Well, what a week so far! Me and Oscar and my Dad have had sickness bug, thrown into that cassie still poorly with cold/virus LUCKILY cassie seems to be a baby who sleeps when ill...phew! She can only manage 2 hours of being awake then goes back for a nap, lunchtime sleeps are awesome 3hrs Grin.
AND, she's sleeping thru 7pm-6.30am i feed her then she goes back til about 8am Grin.

I can't wait for christmas, dread the getting pressies cos of the expense, but love the build up.Making the cards with O, and watching him in the Nativity play at which i always cry, FGS he's 7 now and this will be the 5th one ( he was in the nursery play at which he crowd surfed to get to me) you'd think i would get over it!!!

Well, its 10pm and shit on t.v , so going to bed and making a start on catching up on the last 8 months lack of sleep!!!

Kagey · 18/11/2011 22:36

Greetings all!!

No crawling yet from dd2 I guess I should be grateful she's not on the move just yet! Dd1 started a week before she was 8 months so dd2 hasn't got long Wink.

Dd2 has been poorly and last weeks high temps have now turned into an ear infection. We have amoxicillin for her and hopefully she will respond quickly to it. We were supposed to be going to the lake district for 3 days on Sunday but dh feels she should not go; begrudgingly I think he's right Sad. She's a real mummy's girl so I can't take dd1 and leave dd2 at home with dh.

It's well past my bedtime so I'm off but have a great weekend!

Lozario · 21/11/2011 08:44

Quiet weekend on here! We've been ok - mostly getting DS over his croup. He still has the cough but no more wheezing, poor chap. Kagey I hope DD2 is over her ear infection - DS suffers too, poor lambs

Just a quickie really about teething - Lara is really suffering I think - second one nearly at the surface and was up most of the night (knackered!) - after sleeping 6.30-5.30 straight for a week. This sounds like teething or illness right? She was moaning and crying all night, sometimes seemingly in her sleep. Even when she was in with me she kept crying - v hot and very red cheeks :( With DS he was always ok so I thought teething was a myth?!

Still no crawling here either - not even attempting - but we have clapping and waving now to add to the sitting!!

Lozario · 22/11/2011 09:53

Gah definitely illness. I have a very miserable little girl after 2nd night in a row of crying :(

JoJoB77 · 22/11/2011 18:33

Sorry to hear that Lozario, hope she gets better soon. R seems to be sprouting teeth all the time & it causes her much pain, mainly during the night.

Just when u think things are settling down, something else takes u by surprise!

me23 · 26/11/2011 10:52

No crawling. Or standing here. E is just about sitting on his own he does fall a bit though, bashed his face on the floor yesterday poor thing. He is still waking In The night usually once about 3am for a bf then wakes up 5:30-6am. Night feed would end. I'm back at work going ok so far though it's hard to study as I'm knkaerdd after I put e to bed.

Lately e won't play if im around he just wants to be on me but trying to get down at the same time Quite frustrating.

pettyprudence · 30/11/2011 17:38

Oooh its quiet on here, anyone would think we had real lives going on :)

Me Arthur seems to have at least one big bump to the head each day, he's mostly not bothered, and I just try to remember that's why babies are soft and squishy.

A is constantly pulling himself up to standing but has a bump most times as he still hasn't twigged that a)he can't get back down b)he shouldn't let go yet and c) the flimsy side table is not stable enough to support him. He'll learn though!

Top 2 teeth more or less through now so we have a grand total of 4! Hope the bloody night wakings reduce now though. no need. grr.

On the subject of work, I have officially told them i'm not coming back - it's both liberating and scary. Scary because I dont know what we're going to do for money once my maternity pay runs out on 31st Dec...... On the otherhand I am training to become a bf peer supporter and whilst that is voluntary I'm hoping I could do further training and it will lead to something paid. I have also been offered some flexi work which I can take Arthur to too so one way or another things should work out.

Purple & Sam shall we organise a christmas get together? I will set something up on facebook

Hope everyone is ok and babies are over cough, colds and bugs!

sittinghippo · 30/11/2011 21:23

Hello ladies! Long time no post, so sorry!
I got very behind on this thread, and before I knew it I had 5 pages to catch up on. Am now up-to-date with you all so hopefully I can keep up, as it seems to have slowed down an awful lot on here.

Congratulations Catherine on your official engagement!

Lovely to hear from Tooimmature, congratulations on the news of another little girl! A precious little sister xxxx

CKNY Hope the move to NY went well, its fun picturing you in the middle of NYC, your days must be so different now.

Sooooo ... last time I properly posted was to tell you all that I was engaged. Well, I am now married, there are a couple of pics on FB, I'm sure you've seen. Had a very busy August and September trying to organise the whole thing, which is why I didnt find any time to MN.

The day was beautiful, mid-October, lovely sunshine and it all went swimmingly. Had both the DDs christened as part of the ceremony, so it was a real family celebration. We all had so much fun, I want to do it all over again!

Am amazed by all the teeth stories, Beth is now 8 and 1/2 months and not a single peg! I am sure they wont be much longer, but incredible that some of you have 4 or more already!
Hope it wont mean sleepless nights again, as at long last, around the 7 month mark, she started sleeping through 7-7 most nights. (save for a bout of vomiting and diarhoea - highly unpleasant week!!)

She is however fully on the move now. She started crawling at 4 and 1/2 months, and by 5 and 1/2 months had got it sorted. Was pulling up to standing even before that, so I dropped the cot at about 4 months.
She loves walking with the help of V-Tech Walker, and prefers standing or walking to sitting or crawling. It came as a bit of a shock, as DD1 was average, and walked at 13 months, so my little baby has not stayed little for very long at all!

She is eating well, usually has a 'babyfied' version of whatever I am having, makes life so much easier. You should see her with a piece of bacon, definitely her daddy's daughter!

Edeluna Beth has an average three bottles of formula per 24hours now, with 5oz in each. I feel this is fine, as I know she is getting so many nutrients and calcium from her diet, and putting on weight at a steady pace.
I'm no expert, but I would be reluctant to reduce her food intake in order for her to take more milk. From what I remember from your previous posts, you give her an uber-healthy diet (hats off to you!!) so she is sure to be getting everything she needs.

Hope all the croup/ear infections/teething issues and other general 'ickiness' have all resolved themselves and you are all well and enjoying your babies. My gosh they are growing so quickly, I cant believe we are already approaching 9 months old.

Quick last thought, sorry for mega post, somebody was saying about Christmas pressies.
I havent gone mad on B, but I have bought her a bath toy and will do a stocking, mostly so that my older DD realises that Christmas is not all about her! I also took them both into town today (with this extra day off school!!) so DD1 could chose a Christmas present to give to Bethany, I think it will be good for her to wrap it up and give it to her, and of course she will receive something back...

Good luck to those TTC - have fun (cough cough) Wink cant quite believe it, but look forward to hearing some pregnancy announcements soon enough.

1Catherine1 · 30/11/2011 23:07

I haven't posted in ages but have read everything. Not really had much to report and had a lot of worry - Anya's nursery is closing down and I have the hassle and stress of trying to find 3 hours (3 lots of 1 hr) of childcare per week - again! Not an easy task.

Congratulations sittinghippo. The pictures were truly beautiful.

I hope all the poorly babies are feeling better. Have been worried about Anya getting unwell as I have been poorly (again) but she seems to have her fathers immune system and is totally fine.

Petty - I bet that was scary... officially a full time mum now! So jealous Grin I hope the BF supporter stuff goes well for you.

Tooimmature - congratulations! And it is really great to hear from you.

ckny - glad the move went well and you are settling in well. Sounds like quite an adventure and you are both enjoying it :)

me - Poor E! When he's moving there'll be more face bashing and cuddles to make up for it! Can't blame him for wanting mummy cuddles :) they are the best cuddles in the world and if you're off at work he has to get his fair share Grin

Anya is quite mobile at the moment. She races across the floor crawling especially if I have a plate of food and has mastered pulling herself up to a standing position. She kept bumping herself so OH took all the cushions of the sofa and put them around the room - this resulted in finding her on the sofa exploring and then falling backwards off it luckily onto a couple of cushions on the floor. Couldn't believe it. The very next day I sent OH out to get stair-gates as I was worried she would be up the stairs next and banning him from over baby-proofing. On the plus side since she is more mobile I have more time for me as she is less demanding. She can find her way to her toy box and select a toy to play with.

Anyway.. love to babies and all xx will try to keep up but got mum and sister coming to visit Anya us this weekend. Quite looking forward to it :)

sam26oscar · 01/12/2011 20:24

Hi ladies thought everyone had dropped off here!!!! Seems all getting back to normal illness wise (fingers crossed!!)
Still only 2 teeth here! But have had 2 lots of really bad ear infections back to back as the first lot of antibiotics didn't touch it and ended up down G>P Clinic at 10pm on tues night, thankfully got more stonger and within 3 doses was on the mend!
purple and petty sounds good for a christmas meet Grin

1catherine1 wow! thought Cassie was early at 8 months, she too is crawiling very fast everywhere and pulling herself up to stand on silly things...for example the cooker door the other day...don't worry i only use that thing once a year at at christmas so its never hot!!!!!

Well, i have nearly done all the christmas shopping , however, i need to take Oscar out to choose Cassie something as i had forgot that Blush

Cassie is now sleeping pretty much 7-7/8ish with a feed at 5-6am, and most nights a dummy run, i however have had the most awful stomach cramps and the other that i haven't been able to slepp the nights she's gone thru Sad.
Will have to go to the Dr soon, as its been 5 days now, no appetite, crampy tummy, although on the plus side have lost 7lbs Grin Every cloud and all!!!

Well, late night for us in this house as got caught up doing stuff for Oscar's xmas fair tomorrow!!

Getting excited now as its officially Dec!!!

1Catherine1 · 04/12/2011 08:09

Morning all. Well, yesterday Anya finally got her first tooth at just over 8 months. Not sure how I feel about it as I'm a little concerned that it will get in the way of BF if she decides to bite me again. Which is how I discovered it. Confused

anyway.. she's crying/whining... so better go. Hope all are well. It is very quiet on here right now.

Purplefan · 04/12/2011 09:40

Hi all,
Sorry haven't posted in a while... I guess we've all been a tad busy with Christmas just around the corner, work and babies!!
It was my birthday yesterday so had a lovely lie in whilst DH took care of the girls. Got taken to the pub for a cooked breakfast and was just spoilt all day which was lovely!! Xmas Grin

Bethan is still not mobile, which is good in one way Xmas Wink, she has become a really fussy eater and will now only eat homemade cauliflower cheese or any jar food!! Xmas Hmm She particularly likes the plum brand!!! I don't know why this has happened as she has had homecooked since weaning... I only tried the jars as she was refussing food!!! She is also very lazy and will not hold finger food - you have to guide her hand to her mouth and help her or she drops it and has a paddy!!!! Still fights her sleep all day, having odd cat naps and then is overtired at night and a nightmare to settle!! On the plus side she is getting quite chatty especially with 'Daddad' and we have discovered a telly prog called 'baby Jake' which makes her giggle and clap!!
We have check up with the pead at the hospital on the 15th of this month so will discuss concerns re food etc with her then.

Petty well done on making the break from work...good on you! and yes to a Christmas meet-up.
hippo the photos of your wedding were just beautiful and that video of Bethany walking was great!! Xmas Smile
Catherine what a shame about the Nursery...good luck with finding somewhere.

Christmas shopping is nearly finished and some is wrapped!! I have some things for Beths stocking, but they are practical things like baby bath, a new bib, some new feeding spoons, a teething ring/rattle etc.. she then has two main pressies which is a shape sorter and a bath toy. Georgie has got her some rubber ducks!! Job done Xmas Grin

sam26oscar · 04/12/2011 16:15

hippo how do i see the video of Bethany walking???? Need to prepare myself for the next stage Grin. Just put the stairgate at the bottom of the stairs as she can now pull herself up the stairs!!

cherub59 · 04/12/2011 22:19

Hi all - first chance to post here in a while as been ridiculously busy back at work....
Will try to catch up on everyone's news but guess it will take a while!!
Loving the moving babies pics on fb.... Ollie trying to get going crawling but is quite good at bum shuffling so not sure he will bother crawling...
