Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Honeymoonmummy · 05/12/2011 00:08

Hi all, gosh it's been ages since I last looked at this thread!

Just to remind you, I have a DS born march and a DD who turned 3 last month.

I haven't had the easiest time of it, the PND kicked in at 7 weeks post DS; I'm still trying to get the meds right. I had PND with dd too but the same meds aren't doing the trick for some reason.

I'm still BF DS, which is a good job as we found out when we started weaning that he's allergic to egg and dairy- what a palava that's been!! We have been on an elimination diet that meant we had to exclude eggs, dairy, soya, nuts, wheat and gluten - not much fun!

I'm still off work, I'm staying off for the full year.

DS is commando crawling everywhere and pulling himself up to stand.

I think that's pretty much it!!

What are you all getting the babies for Christmas?

ckny1 · 05/12/2011 19:34

Hi Mummies!!!

Huge congratulations to Hippo on your marriage/christening extravaganza, the 2 pics I saw on FB were gorgeous! Also missed the walking pic.

Catherine, yay for the tooth, though not for the biting! Hope the day care is sorted.

My mat leave officially ends in Feb (SMP already done, though, so reality just kicked in, in a very expensive city might I add). No one really understands the concept of maternity leave here, though, so it should be interesting looking for work in the New Year. Dream of finding a consulting from home position, but ha!

Franz still loves it here, but is on his second major cold. It's horrible to hear, poor little guy. On the plus side, though he's still only commando crawling, he's also climbing EVERYTHING in sight and also prefers standing! Can't wait to get him into the new home next week where our furniture is much more child safe.

We finally tried Gymboree and he LOVED it! It's so fun watching the other babies, too! I even met other mums from the UK there!

While everyone is really friendly and chatty here with babies, it's not a child-friendly city at all. I miss the buggy-friendly London busses! I'm approaching the stage where I can't carry him in the sling anymore, and therefore resign myself to staying in walking distance. Thankfully most of my favorite shops and Central Park are close by, but there are other cool places to explore here!

How adorable that siblings are getting presents for the newbies! :) I can barely organise a gift from us but luckily friends and family are around to fill in the gaps! Xmas Smile

Wishing the Bristol group a fun December meet-up!

Muser · 09/12/2011 09:27

Hello hello, I have been rubbish at posting. Just a quickie now but will update properly lately.

Lovely to hear from you ckny. Glad things are going well in NY. Have you thought about popping Franz on your back to get around? I carry my girl on my back in an Ergo and it's very comfy and she loves it. I'm also planning to learn how to do a back carry with a woven wrap. But if you had something like an Ergo or Manduca they're buckle carriers that are really comfy and it's easy to do a back carry.

Purplefan · 15/12/2011 20:47

Hi ladies,
Just thought i'd pop back in to update you on our hospital check up today. Bethan now weighs 12lb 10, so nice steady weight gain and she is 62cm in length/height! Xmas Wink
We are being referred to physio for her motor delay e.g the not rolling or sitting etc and her hand coordination. Also being reffered to speech and language therapy due to the texture of food feeding issues (apparently they deal with all of that!)
So, looking forward to more hospital and clinic apts in the new year!! I am happy with the referrals and think it is great that she is in the system for these things early on.
1 real positive is that we have had 3 nights in the row of sleeping well - by that i mean 8.30/9pm ish until 6/6.30am!! Prob jinxed this now Xmas Wink
Hope everyone well. Looking forward to Monday sam and petty

ps:- finished work yesterday until 3rd Jan!! Yay! Xmas Grin Xmas Grin Xmas Grin

pettyprudence · 16/12/2011 10:43

Purplefan excellent news on Bethans growth and referrals. Can't wait to see you, sam and the girls on monday Xmas Smile

sam26oscar · 17/12/2011 21:12

looking forward to monday too girlies!! purple are you going to take Georgie?? I am going to take Oscar as we are going ice skating at the Mall afterwards Xmas Grin x

Purplefan · 18/12/2011 20:37

Sam - yep bringing Georgie, so Oscar and her can go crazy together!! Xmas Grin x

edeluna · 19/12/2011 13:22

Oh my, it seems like forever since I've popped over here. Hope everyone is doing well and ready to enjoy a relaxing (fingers crossed) festive season.

We're doing great. S will be 9 months old tomorrow. Pulling herself up to standing every chance she gets but hasn't started taking any steps yet. Soon, I'm sure.

She's been teething for ages but still no sign of the next teeth; it's just the bottom two so far.

We'll be putting our tree up later this week. Sort of worried about her pulling it down and getting herself hurt. We're figuring we just won't be able to let her loose in the sitting room for the next two weeks or so.

Planning a quiet holiday at home, just the three of us. The grandparents have already sent loads of pressies. They really, really overdo it, especially with the clothes they're spending a fortune on designer stuff that she's going to outgrow so quickly. It makes me feel so bad ... but it's their money, I suppose. I wish they'd wait until she was older and could appreciate it when she's a teenager, she'll want such lovely things, but right now, I really don't think she cares. I don't mean to sound ungrateful, but it just seems so wasteful. Anyone else dealing with overzealous grandparents?

As for us, we got S a pushcart with building blocks to encourage her walking. Also got a doidy cup for her stocking and a few other small things, but not going crazy.

Right, LO is asleep so I'll try to get some other things done now. If I don't make it back here this week, a very happy Christmas / Hanukah to all who celebrate.

sam26oscar · 19/12/2011 23:09

Well, as mentioned at our Bristol Meet its looking VERY quiet on here, understandable with the forthcoming eventXmas Grin
We have bought Cassie an underwater light show for the bath, a couple of books and an electronic toy music thingy and a set of maracas for the stocking!! we have had an ill free week so far (fingers crossed but know i have probably jinxed it now..so might as well say we had 13 hr stretch of sleep last night..in for a penny in for a pound hey!!!!)

Cassie just started pushing her walker around but looks like she's got wooden legs as she drags her feet round and doesn't bend her knees!!. I am in no hurry for her to start walking yet thank you all the same!!!

We have got our tree up and decorations on the hearth and i just say no and she looks at me smiles then shakes her head... and mostly she will leave them alone sometimes she'll push her luck!!!

After 9 boys on DH side Cassie being the first girl i expect we'll be overwhelmed with girlie stuff Xmas Grin.

Granparents have asked what she would like/need so have just asked for few wooden toys like shape sorters to put away for as and when she grows into them, as with most of the babies on this thread its so soon after Christmas that they get all their pressies close together!

Well, its VERY late for me having just looked at the clock so over and ouyt from here and hopefully see some posts soon Xmas Wink xx

cherub59 · 20/12/2011 07:04

Wow sam trying to walk already!!! O is trying crawl and to pull up but just gets his leg stuck then does a few press ups and cries! He happily bum shuffles around (only when no one is looking though!!) but thankfully doesn't get up to much mischief except always aiming for his brothers potty to put things in!!!! Ooohhh big boys awake..... Gotta go

Lozario · 21/12/2011 14:26

Wowzers, I haven't posted for ages - Christmas madness has overtaken us here! I just did the big supermarket shop with both kids. Still feel slightly traumatised! My mum and both brothers are coming to ours as my mum's move didn't go through in time (she'll be moving in Jan now) so we're hosting. God knows how we'll squeeze everyone in but we'll manage!!

Can't believe all these babies are finding their feet! Lara is still pretty immobile. No crawling, no walking. She can stand with holding my hands for a minute or two but that's it!

Getting more adventurous with food too - but I'm rubbish at portion sizes, I have no idea. Basically go by how much they give you in shop-bought baby food as the max she should have (though she doesn't normally finish that much). The only reason I've started thinking about it so exactly is that she had her 8 month check a couple of weeks ago and she's dropped down to the 9th percentile! (Was born on 50th, then went down to 25th for a while) She seems ok though, isn't skinny or anything. I'm quite thin so I guess she was always going to be.

sam Lara is like Cassie - the first girl in our family for ages - so I'm hoping she gets lots of cute clothes for christmas!

edeluna we have teething here too - I can see the top two teeth beneath the surface but they are still not through! I hope we don't have rocky nights over christmas! Your little family christmas sounds like bliss!!

purple sounds like Beth is doing really well. Enjoy being off work! We've had a few sleep-throughs until 6.30 in the last week or so too - it feels luxuriously late doesn't it!!

I hope everyone else is well - got to get the house straight before a playdate now (so they can wreck it again ha ha) - any thoughts on portion sizes for our LOs appreciated!!

xx

Cheeseandbiscuits · 21/12/2011 14:32

Hi everyone!

Merry Christmas!

Think I've caught up on all the news! We have a walker here. Isobel is pulling herself to standing, walking holding onto furniture and holding our hands. She will walk about 5 m like that. It's hard work as its all she wants to do! Grin

Loved the photo from Xmas meet in Bristol.

Ckny : glad NY going well. We've bought a little life rucksack and it's amazing!

Xmas: I have a massive family who are all spoiling Isobel. I've bought her some wooden toys and some clothes and books. Family have bought trikes, ball pits, wooden bricks eyc etc

pettyprudence · 21/12/2011 22:21

hello everyone

Finally finished making all the christmas presents, and now find myself with nothing to do in the evenings. I feel lost. Oh well more time for MN again Xmas Grin

Arthur had his first christmas party today at bf group and father christmas turned up! A was one of the few babies not to cry! Getting a bit more excited now.

A is very much crawling, pulling to standing and will cruise the furniture if there is something he wants enough (usually a cat - poor buggers). He has now discovered the stairs but can only climb the first one and then falls down. I have got him a push along walker thingy for christmas, but he when he tried to use one before he just face planted. Shouldn't laugh but oh..... We have 5 teeth now. Dreading the next ones as teeth seem to bring a good couple of weeks of night wakings. Is it wrong for me to hope he remains gummy? Swings and round abouts though (on that note he does love the swings at the park! Back to topic!) as his babbling is still quite basic, no mammas or daddas here (a bit of mama but not with intent yet).

Nearly finished peer support training and looking forward to helping out with some groups in the new year.

RE: portion sizes, not too sure but Arthur and his friends seem to have about an ikea bowl-ful-ish

On another note, anyone got any suggestions for types of groups I can take A to now he's on the move? Still too young I think for toddler groups but too fidgety/moving for baby/bf groups.

Happy Christmas to everyone if I don't get a chance to post again Xmas Smile

sittinghippo · 28/12/2011 14:30

Wow, a whole week since the last post on here! We're all slacking ladies!
I hope you have all had a wonderful first christmas with your little ones. We had a lovely few days away at my parents, got home late last night and today the house looks like a bomb has hit it with cardboard and clothes and colourful plastic crap everywhere!

Bethany is doing well, I really thought she'd be walking properly by now, as she was crawling at 4 months and walking with support at 7months, but she still holds on to furniture to walk. She has started getting a bit braver and freestanding for a couple of seconds before she realises what she's doing and flals down.

FINALLY have two teeth, one at the bottom and one at the top, looks so cute. Beth is another that seems to struggle with teething, dribbling and snotty and wakeful.

Lozario, I have no idea on portion sizes, I just give her as much as she wants, she's very clear when she's had enough -she chucks it on the floor!

I dont mash/puree food any more, she just has whatever we have (usually) and prefers to be able to pick it up and feed it to herself. She loves peas and baked beans so I just dollop and spoonful on her tray and she picks them up and shovels them in. They are all big enough to handle these sorts of food now, and soft raisins are another favourite.
Over Christmas she really ate well, from sprouts to turkey and stuffing, to Baileys cheesecake Xmas Blush

Enjoy the rest of your holidays everyone, and have a great New Year!

My New Years Resolution: To MN more often!! Xmas Grin

Muser · 28/12/2011 14:45

Glad I'm not the only one who let the baby have a few things she probably shouldn't have had sittinghippo! Eating was really well here, the turkey wasn't a massive hit but carrots, brussels, roast potatoes and little sausages all went down well. And the bread sauce was a stand out winner. As was the pannetone dessert my MIL makes for Boxing Day with berries and white chocolate sauce (oops). She also crawled over to me, stood up and nicked a big bit of Christmas Cake right off my plate. Little minx!

I also go for the "just give her food until she starts throwing it on the floor" tack. Her eating went downhill before Christmas as she was really ill. But now she is eating masses. Her little pot belly has come back again, which is nice to see.

We got home yesterday after over a week away. There have been weddings, visits with my family and husband's family and Christmas. Sleep went a bit crazed but now we're home and she's in her own room again things seem to have improved. I was a bit worried that after so long in big houses our tiny flat would annoy her. But she's been charging around giggling with excitement to be home. No walking here or standing unsupported. But she's really started getting the hang of cruising while we were away and can get from one bit of furniture to another now. If I try to hold her to walk she just drops to her knees though.

Christmas was just brilliant, I loved the day. She was interested in her presents, really enjoyed Christmas dinner, and it was just the most wonderful day.

I'm currently trying to get my head round the fact that's her birthday in just over 7 weeks. How is that even possible? I'm going back to work in mid-March so need to crack on and find a childminder. Just filled in my form for part-time working and will post that off as well. Time flies!

sam26oscar · 31/12/2011 14:51

Just coming on to say Happy New Year everyone as i will (hopefully) flat out at midnight Xmas Grin. I did a huge post yesterday but wanted to review it and hit the back space and lost the flippin lot Xmas Angry.
Hope you all had a lovely christmas, cassie has been an angel so far!! Sleeping much better, althought she does wake for a feed at about 4-5am but then goes back until around 8.30am ish, i will have to think about stopping that feed though as she should and probably can go til 7am but i don't want to change whats working!!!!

We are off to Oscar's football club tonight as they are putting on a little party for the players as they know no-one can get a babysitter on New Years Eve. Fingers crossed cassie will crawl around til about 10pm ish then sleep til 9am so we can have a lie in Xmas Grin.

Well, not going to risk checking and losing this post so sorry for any typos, have good evening whatever you are up too and will catch up again in 2012!!!!
Xmas Smile Xmas Smile Xmas Smile

Lozario · 31/12/2011 19:52

Hello ladies!

Well we've had a SHOCKER!! All been ill, got ill the day after my last post and still ill now. Lara got it the worst, turned into a full-on chest infection so she's on antibiotics and we're hoping it doesn't develop into bronchiolitis. DS1 has been a nightmare too due to illness and being TWO AND A HALF. Fair to say it's been quite a rotten xmas - we did all enjoy christmas afternoon though so that's something. DH and I pretty much better now and my mum is still here and we're waiting for our chinese takeaway. No way will I make midnight!

hippo that's amazing that Beth is so mobile! They are all so different - Lara still just sits like a frog on a lily-pad and watches. Occasionally yells if she can't reach something and DS gets it for her. She still hates going on her tummy but today I made her (!) go on all fours and she was very pleased with herself for a few seconds until she collapsed!

Muser Gosh time FLIES! That's crazy. Lara has lost yet more weight like you said your girl did when she was ill. Need to fatten her up again. People always guess her age as 5 or 6 months, she is tiny weeny!

Right chinese is here now - I hope everyone enjoys their evening (Sam can't believe you're going OUT OF THE HOUSE - I can't imagine such a thing!!!) - HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE XXXXXXX

pettyprudence · 01/01/2012 11:46

Happy new year everyone! We are back home after a long week with our families. Loved it but the house was cramped and it was exhausting visiting sooo many people.

Arthur has shown almost zero interest in any of his toys, except the bloody loud lights and sounds car steering wheel thingy my GMIL got him and an empty roses tin with a wooden spoon (so glad I didnt get him a drum in the end!). I left most of his gifts at my mums house for her to bring down at some point in January.

A likes to walk around holding my hands now but he takes great big long strides so when I've tried to give him a push along walker he just falls flat on his face. must stop laughing when he does that Blush. He collapses in a heap too if he gets excited.

A seems to have given up on babbling and just shouts all the time, happy or sad Hmm I'm not overly worried but will bring it up at his very late 8 month check (surgery said they'll see him at about 10/11 months)

A has been on the antibiotics too but for impetigo - urgh!

Anyone got any top tips on teaching a 9mo no and stop? Never thought I would have to discipline a baby lol but A is a wilful little thing and is at the point now of fake cries etc.. if he doesn't get his own way (he's currently tantruming on the sofa because he's not allowed to play with the laptop). Distraction doesn't work anymore.

Right I'm going to stop rambling and go make the boy some lunch and cross my fingers he has a giant nap this afternoon.

sam26oscar · 04/01/2012 14:43

Well, we had a good new years eve, although didn't get quite the lie in i had anticipated!! that said the children spent a few hours crawling/running around and throughly knackered themselves out and had a lovely nap on new years day after late night and earlyish morning so win win for me!!

poor cassie had a temperature for past 2 days about 38.6, if she still got one tomorrow will take her to drs but she seems not too bad in herself apart from at night!!

Wanted to say petty we just say "NO" really firmly and quite loudly, i try not to do distraction too much, as sometimes they need to know when no means no. Anyway having said that there are times that neither works as i have just found out as the little bugger monkey has just pulled the table over where i had stupidly put a full can of coke, which is now all over her and the carpet!!!!!!

Hope you are all going to be watching One Born Every Minute tonight??? Look forward to the slating comments tomorrow Grin

haloflo · 05/01/2012 15:08

Hi all, thought I best check back in rather than spend all my internet time on fb!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year.

Hannah is doing well. Good fine motor skills, good sitting and finally weight baring (onto the sofa if I position her there, not pulling up) My current worry is she isn't babbling but there is nothing wrong with her ears and she can clap, wave and does a "wiggle" dance whilst sat down for my amusement sometimes. Maybe she will just be a late talker but clear with her signs.

We have 4 teeth, top two through on boxing day. Breastfeeding is still going well though, many of my friends have struggled once top teeth are through so fingers crossed for us. I can't imagine when i'll give up, probably when I want to TTC no 2 as after a false start my periods don't seem to have come back (half a days bleed when she was 7 mo?)

She doesn't sleep through but you all knew that didn't you!

sam Hope Cassie's temp comes down, poor thing. I was defiantly watching one born, brought back memories of my birth being on that drip and having an epidural. My heart stopped when that baby wasn't breathing. Poor mum having to wait for the crys. The 2nd birth was beautiful though, amazing footage of her coming out.

petty No tips here, Hannah laughs when I say no. Usually when she is trying to take my eyeball out. Amazing that A is walking supported, they are all so different now.

muser I can't believe the eldest babies in our group are nearly 1. Surely someone will be TTC (and even pregnant!) soon?

lozario Hope everyone is back to full strength now.

Anyone else back at work soon? There must be a few of us who took 9 months ML. I start back Tuesday, 3 days a week and can't wait!

pettyprudence · 05/01/2012 19:22

Flo i checked with a hv yesterday about Arthurs lack of babbling too and she said it was fine as long as he wasn't mute and was communicating in some way. I assured her he is VERY clear in his communication. They are all different, while Arthur may be trying to walk (and climbed the stairs yesterday - eek!) he doesn't wave or clap yet (he does seem to do his own version, but I am a tough mummy and demand the full works from him Grin) and his interests are limited to hitting anything and everything with a wooden spoon.

RE: discipline, I have been trying to say no in a clear firm voice and look like I mean it (I bloody do!) but yesterday I said no to Arthur when he was about to tip the cat food out of the bowl for the zillionth time and he stared me back square in the eyes and tipped it out very very slowly, staring me down the entire time! Cheeky bugger, clearly knows what he is doing! HV suggested trying distraction or not reacting at all as he may be doing things just to get a reaction.. Arthur 1 - Mummy 0. May the battle continue....

Honeymoonmummy · 05/01/2012 19:37

Hi all, happy new year! I have a sleeping DS on me at the moment so I thought i'd say hello. Do you have a FB group that i could join?

haloflo · 05/01/2012 20:55

Glad your HV wasn't worried about babbling petty Mine just said she'd come back in 3 weeks and check again then. (Having home visits re sleep) She says "aaaaaaah" and along with the gestures it sounds fine then. Thank you!

honeymoonmummy Its "The March 2011 Mumsnetters" on fb, someone will accept your add if you request to join. How lovely to have a sleeping baby on you. I wish my baby would go to sleep tonight (too busy sitting up in her cot)

sam26oscar · 05/01/2012 22:20

another mammoth post lost in cyperspace Angry mumsnet went offline just as i hit send grrrr!!

so very short very quick and full of typos i'm afraid!!!

Hope all babies fine and dandy Grin

Cassie has started using sign and makes her needs very well known Grin. she signd milk and juice ( the same sign just depends on what time of day it is as to what she gets!!) Food, more and thank you!! I am chuffed after all the times i have been sat in a cafe milking an imaginary cow saying "milk" felt like a right tit Grin Grin

We are currently working on "gentle" and "share" although i fear that will take many months for her to get what that actually means!!!!

One of my resolutions will to post on MN and not just lurk!!!!

Right not going to risk losing this 3rd edition!!!
Night to all x

sittinghippo · 06/01/2012 10:29

Hello all, am impressed by the signing, I half-heartedly tried a few signs but I am rubbish at remembering to do them, so no sign language here, but Beth can make it perfectly clear what she wants with her shouts and pointing. She has just started pointing with one finger, nodding or shaking head, it's so funny to watch.
Re discipline, I too use a firm 'No' but it doesnt always work, just like Petty she will willfully ignore me if she choses. It works sometimes, such as when she's about to pull over my vase of 'twiggy shit' or empty the DVDs again, she will pull her hand away and look at me (or glare at me for daring to say no).

I have had to do a couple of taps on the back of her hand when she's grabbed a handful of hair and wont let go. I know this goes against a lot of peoples ideals, but it works for me...
The first time DD1 had a smack on the bottom was when she was about 1yo and kept standing up in the bath and it didnt matter how many times I sat her down again she kept doing it, and I decided a smacked bottom was safer than a cracked skull!
