I have updated the facebook thingy to the 3rd :)

Muser · 22/10/2011 20:33

Hello all. I have been reading but not quite getting round to posting. Glad to hear of all the progress babies are making. Just wanted to say Purple that I think you're right not to worry about the sitting/rolling stuff with Bethan. She'll do it when she's ready. And she is doing so well. She's our little thread star.

We were on holiday this week. Unfortunately we all came down with a sickness bug. Started with my poor baby when I found her in her cot covered in sick. She just kept throwing up, I was so sad and worried for her. Took her a few days to get better and the diarrhea has only just stopped. We came down with it after her so our planned night out while my in-laws babysat got cancelled. Boo. Not sure when we'll get the chance again, we don't have anyone to babysit close by.

All back to health now though and doing well. Had a big first today, standing up in the cot. Cot has now been dropped which I am not that pleased about as it's so much further to bend! She pulled herself up to stand against me as well, so cute. I can't believe how big she's getting! We're teeth central here now too, I'm starting to lose count!

Hope everyone else is doing well.

ckny1 · 23/10/2011 10:05

Muser, so sorry for Iz and the rest of you, this is the same thing Franz had and I was calling emergency lines everywhere! :( He lost so much weight that week but then regained it plus more during our trip to Germany. I wished that I could have caught it, too, to lose some of the weight...

Amazing about the standing babies, and I'm also not looking forward to moving the cot mattress down though fortunately the travel bed will be fine for the next 2 months until our furniture arrives.

Franz is currently trying to stand on the floor, but oops, just slid under his buggie instead! :) He's loads of fun these days. Poor bugger doesn't know what's to come.

Lozario, we're trying to decide whether to get the new iphone or the HTC. Ugh, I hate these techno decisions!

Have a fun meet up, Bristol girls!

Jupiter118 · 23/10/2011 23:22

Bonsoir!!

Just quick post as need to go to bed(fordshire) as v tired.

CKNY are you moving to NY this week? OMG that has come around quickly. Wishing you a smooth and safe trip!! Let us know from across the pond how it goes.

lozario new phone nice!!!

muser sickness bug yuckety yuck. Hope all better now.

Nothing of interest to report here, just ticking along nicely. Hald term this week so DS home also. heading to my parents for assistance on Tues. And DH and I have night on own in hotel on Thurs - am beyond excited.

Must fly xx

ckny1 · 24/10/2011 10:09

Thanks, Jupiter, and yes, it's this week. I feel like almost everything is in order (we even have baby yoga planned for across the street from where we'll be living)! My only fear is that we'll be staying in a noisy cockroach infested walk-up until we find a permanent shoebox sized place to live! Aside from that, we're excited!

Have a wonderful night out (or in) with DH and look forward to everyone's updates!

sam26oscar · 24/10/2011 18:06

Hi akk very quick as i have run out of mins on my dongle!!
we had a shite time up north like you muser cassie came down with tummy bug in the travel lodge room Blush. She is still not right and the 6 hours journey home yesterday was dire. The only thing is is that she has slept thru the night for the past 4 nights so every cloud and all!!! Well, won't be able to log in now til new month starts on 5th NOV but has far as i know purple and petty thurs 3rd nov @jump good with me Grin.

Lozario · 25/10/2011 10:26

Sam wow did she just start sleeping through on her own or did you do something? I'm SO bored of the 4am feed and resettle now. SO BORED!!!!

Which babies on here are actually sleeping through now? I've lost track.

pettyprudence · 25/10/2011 19:22

Everyone sounds very busy at the moment! We haven't been up to much but tried out a couple of new baby groups in the area - they knacker Arthur right out and he has great big long naps on the days we have have been to groups.

A was sleeping through but since teething (we have 2!) he has got into the habit of waking and coming in to my bed for long suckling/feeding/sleeping. For the past 2 nights I guess we have been doing controlled crying - didn't really plan too but pick up/put down makes him VERY angry, feeding to sleep only works in my bed, and offering water not helping either. He's not rooting for a feed when he wakes up and the screaming/shouting is controlled on his part because the little bugger sweetie is cooing to himself between screams when he thinks I can't hear him.... It took me a couple of nights to realise the screams were "fake", they are different in tone to the teething crying/screaming. He doesn't seem to be catching on quick to the CC though.... Thankfully he only wakes up once before 7am, and then he goes back to sleep until 9am Blush My mum says I should get him up - tried that and he just fell asleep in my arms on the sofa instead. TBH i'm not going to wake him up because I know this is probably a limited phase and it wont be long before he's jumping on me in my bed at 5am to play Grin

Right i'm off to play "making christmas presents" - super skint this year so trying to make everything. So far I have only made stuff for the babies I know because that's easy! Need some inspiration on what to make for my bff....

edeluna · 26/10/2011 08:30

Just a quick one before morning naptime.

S has been sleeping really well since we moved her into her own room a few weeks ago. I think she's slept through three (maybe four?) nights in a row now. I do hear her making some noise during the night (LOL, I'm still not sleeping through!) and she might cry a little, but she usually settles down again within ten minutes so I don't have to get out of bed. It's nice and I hope it lasts!

So at the moment, she goes to bed around 7pm and wakes up between 6:30 and 7:00am.

She's doing really well on solids but is much less interested in BFing now. The nurse at the baby clinic said I shouldn't worry about how much milk she's getting, but I am concerned. From what I've read, they should get around 500-600ml/day at this age. I think she's getting a lot less. She is on a super healthy diet, but I'd still like to get more milk into her. This morning she fed for only about 4 minutes when she woke up. Now at naptime, she'll either feed again very briefly or take a bottle, but it will probably be a fight.

Otherwise, she's started trying to pull herself up to standing and is doing the proper hands-and-knees crawl now much of the time.

CKNY Good luck with the move. Transatlantic relocation can be so stressful, but it sounds like you are well organized.

I hope all of you and your babies who've been sick are feeling better!

highlandbird · 26/10/2011 11:42

Arghhhhh, things getting worse here I'm so Envy of you who's babies sleep although I know that's not very nice of me Blush you're just very lucky!!!!
Think I did make a rod for my own back with having him in bed, he now screams in my face, kicks me all night and demands booby about 7 times a night.......I'm soooooooooooo tired! Although I know the last week has been made worse by top teeth coming through. He's still so full of wind he just writhes aout all night whimpering and farting (and kicking!) anyone have any ideas of anything else I could try??? I've had him on peppermint tea the last few days and not a jot of difference.

Ckny wow you're moving this soon, good luck with it all and hopefully Franz will take it in his stride!!

Anyway, hopefully one of our neighbours is going to take him off my hands for a couple of hours one evening next week so that I can out for a meal with OH to celebrate our engagement (last May!!!) god only knows how I'm going to find time to organise a wedding!! Hmm

Am in awe at those of you who make parenting look easy!! Hope all the poorly babies are better.

Lozario · 26/10/2011 15:00

Crikey highland you must be knackered. Thought my night last night was bad with two feeds! Could those night-feeds be making wind worse - is it the only way to settle him back off?

haloflo · 26/10/2011 19:10

Hi all, long time no see!

highland Hannah still isn't sleeping through. I was avoiding reading this thread as it looked like everyone elses baby was (sorry all) She is fed 3 plus times and is mostly in with us. Sometimes she is awake for 2 plus hours at night, wanting to play (they are the worst nights) That sounds hard though. Has cutting dairy helped at all?

ckny Hope the move is going well.

edeluna Does DD eat lots of dairy foods? They get milk through those too. My HV said that 2 fromage frais is 1/3 pint.

petty You are so creative! I wish you were my RL friend, I bet your presents are fab.

BLW is going pretty well here, poos are changing and she is really interested. Still on 2 meals but going to start breakfast soon. She still feeds frequently but not for long and put no weight on this month. Apparently that's normal (she sits and rolls well) but still a bit worrying for me.

We move into the IL's this weekend as we have sold our flat but the lady we are buying from is being very awkward and slow. Mixed thoughts about being at the ILs. Positive ones are: H will get used to her nanna (she will have her one day a week when í go back to work in January), its near lots of my mum friends, it will save us money whilst we wait for our purchase to go through. Negative ones: They are my ILs, I need my own space!

Hopefully it won't be for long.

KPidgeon · 26/10/2011 20:29

Hello all,
Long time no write for me too- we're moving house into our new bought place (and out of this horrid mouldy damp rented house) next week and we've been pretty stressed packing up and dealing with the solicitors.

Elijah is not sleeping through either- at least two wakes still at the moment. And he's way bigger than he should be so it's not hunger. He's going in his own room when we move so hoping that may help.

Sorry Highland though- your nights sound really tough. Like halo said, perhaps too much milk? Not sure how to deal with that though. This will pass..

E is not crawling at all- not interested. Nor rolling. He sits up unaided and has done for over a month (he's 7 months next Tuesday) but he wants to stand ALL the time (pulls himself up on our thumbs) and is able to walk with us holding him so I think he will skip the crawling stage.

RE- teething. E has no teeth yet but has a funny little cough when he's lying down and sleeping- our book says this could be to do with teeth, no other cold-like symptoms. Did anyone else have a cough with teeth?

Food is going well here- though E is totally a baby that should have done baby-led weaning. He's much happier with chunks of food and if I do give him porridge or yoghurt or the odd puree he HAS to hold the spoon (soooo messy!)

Hope poorly babies are getting better.

JoJoB77 · 26/10/2011 20:57

Hi all

I do read as often as poss but not enough time to post usually. However, I read with interest your LO's and sleeping through and had to post.

R is still waking several times during the night and I have been wondering whether she should be sleeping through now seeing as she's also on solids now but no, nothing seems to be making a difference?!!

So, I'm glad to see, well not glad, but it's a relief to see that some of you are still up and down during the night and i'm not the only one.

Like KPidgeon's LO, R is a big baby so it's not hunger here either. 'm hoping that it will pass and she will eventually go right through.

Re weaning, I'm still on purees although attempting to go a bit chunkier now. I was keen on the BLW route and did give her toast to chew on a few times, but she almost choked on a piece last week and I shit myself so it's knocked my confidence a bit!

Lozario · 27/10/2011 13:11

I'm really glad I asked the sleeping through question now - good for everyone to know that actually sleeping through still seems pretty rare!!

I "hosted" our local playgroup this morning as it's half term, so had 10 kids here! (5 mums too, wasn't in sole charge!) Wasn't too chaotic to be honest. Kids are knackered so hoping for a long nap from them - my friend is coming over this arvo so might have some peace and quiet - too much to ask perhaps??!

Muser · 27/10/2011 16:16

Hello all. Put me firmly in the "not even close to sleeping through" camp. A good night is an 11pm and a 3am feed. A bad night is every 2 hours or so. I tried last night not to feed her when she woke at 2am, but after nearly 40 minutes I gave in!

Purplefan · 27/10/2011 17:16

Hi everyone,
firstly thank-you Muser for your kind words about Bethan.. it is nice to chat to you guys about her cos you've all been there from the start and know what we've been through. Had her weighed at clinic this week and at 7.5 months she is now 11lb 13 oz... Grin, I had hoped to hit the 12lb mark, but hey-ho!!

I am another one who is relieved to here that sleeping through the night is rare!! Bethan is waking loads at the mo. She is a nightmare to settle to bed again and wakes 2/3 times a night... the only thing to settle her is a breast feed!!! [hhmm]

Hope sleeping improves for everyone soon. x

pettyprudence · 27/10/2011 20:10

I don't know if this will cheer us up or disprit us but my gran swears my mum never slept through the night until she was 5 [hshock] then my aunty came along so she enjoyed sleep for all of about 5 mins [hgrin]

Congrats to purple and Bethan on some excellent growing

KPidgoen interesting you mention coughing and teething. A was snotting loads, thought he had a cold, then he really did have a cold, then coughing for 3 weeks. During this time 2 teeth have popped through. Last 2 days he's been grumpy and flushed red cheeks again but no sign of more teeth. I thought it was strange that he was coughing so long but maybe it is the teeth.

Hello again to those of you popping back in Grin

Sam & Purple - I don't think i'm going to be able to do Thursdays for a while - I've just had peer support training sprung on me (thought it was going to be in the New Year!). I have an introductory meeting next Thursday and then I think the training will be every thurs for 8 weeks after that.

Watched Kirsty's homemade britain last night and got lots of homemade christmas present ideas. Off to whip up some paper rings.....

Purplefan · 28/10/2011 09:41

Another rubbish night!!!! [hsad] This has put me in a very grumpy mood!!

On the plus side.. DH purchased me a lovely Amore baci bracelet (similar to troll) yesterday which is an anniversary and early birthday gift!! Grin

Petty that is fine re:- Thursdays, I have been invited to attend a special baby group called "Little Stars" - it is for babies and toddlers with diagnosed needs etc.. so could be interesting - I initially said I couldn't attend Thursday as had plans so maybe I'll rock up there and check it out. Fridays are never any good because DD finishes school at 1.15pm, therefore we'll have to meet at the start of the Christmas break? My DD finishes on Fri 16th Dec so any day from then?!
Sam said she wouldn't be able to log on till the 5th so hope we can get a message to her.
Peer support training sounds interesting!

Lozario · 28/10/2011 14:02

We had a bad night too. It was really hot?! Weird as nearly November!

Good work Mr Purple for pressie purchase... might have to leave this page open for Mr Loz to see...!

KPidgeon · 29/10/2011 15:02

Right ladies, any ideas on how we explain to our babies that we are allowed an extra hour of sleep tomorrow morning??

Muser · 29/10/2011 16:45

I'm going to try putting mine to bed later KP and hope that helps. But I'm not convinced it will work.

JoJoB77 · 29/10/2011 18:08

Ive considered putting R to bed a bit later tonight too but we have had such unsettled nights of late that i dont think it will make much difference either. I think fir the sake of an hour im going to carry on ad normal and it will work itself right eventually. Hope ur all having lovely weekends Smile

Lozario · 30/10/2011 06:56

Well we were up early AND had a terrible night!! Someone is getting sleep training for Christmas!! Angry Extra annoyed as I went out for my friends bday last night, got home at 11 and had about 2 hours sleep. Grrr.

KPidgeon · 30/10/2011 20:56

Well we put E to sleep later (made him watch half of Strictly in desperation- don't normally have the TV on with him in the room). He was up at 6.15am new time, could have been a lot worse. Making him last until 7pm tonight was hard work though!
