Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
highlandbird · 11/10/2011 15:44

Ah well, thanks for that it seems we're on about the same number of feeds as everyone else, 7am, 11-12ish, 4pmish and 7pm then one or to feeds in the night.....although he ened up being fed 4 times last night as it was the only way to settle him!! Teething here too, on top of the usual reflux, constipation etc!!!
Consultant appt come through for 3rd Nov so I think I'll just stick to him sleeping with me for now. Someone asked what the appt was for but can't remember who without going back a page! Is for tummy trouble, doctor calls it colic has him screaming every evening for hours in pain with reflux / really bad wind etc but you'd think if it was colic it wouyld have eased by 7 months!!!! The ranitidine and dairy free diet have dn nothing to help so we're back to square one. Moan moan moan.
Right off to prepare dinner....hope snuffly babies feeling better, someone told me to try a calpol vapour plug in thingy, must remember that next time Angus has a cold, apparently it makes the whole room mentholy and works quite well.

highlandbird · 12/10/2011 19:40

Paediatrician had a cancelled appointment so we get to see him tomorrow!! Fingers crossed he takes me seriously and we get to the bottom of his tummy troubles (as it were!)

Hope all you mummies and babies are recovering from your snuffles and enjoying the half term those of you with bigger little ones!

1catherine1 · 12/10/2011 20:20

Evening all,

Good luck tomorrow Highlandbird

Hope babies are all feeling better. Loving the facebook pics - our little babies are quickly turning into toddlers!! Amazing to think how quickly they have changed! Anya is learning to crawl and now does the funniest crawl - its halfway between a real crawl and a commando crawl. It is quite fast though so kitty-cats beware!

RE breastfeeds - With me being at work it sorta messes up our routine but during the week she has a feed at 5:30am, 7:15am, 4pm and 6:30pm. Quite often the first and second one merge when she starts feeding at 5:30am and stops at 7am. All feeds are kinda long though now.

Just wondering - Is everyone still serialising everything? How long do we need to do it for? Read somewhere 6 and half months but the book I read it in was kinda old.

pettyprudence · 12/10/2011 20:47

catherine I was always a bit lax at sterilising as the info I had from BFN was that you didn't need to sterilise bf equipment and bottles. I gave up totally at 4 months though when A started shoving anything and everything in his mouth

We have 2 lumps in the bottom gums so I'm hoping that when they do finally come through, 2 will come at once. A is still pretty poorly with a bad cough but fine in himself IYSWIM?

me23 · 12/10/2011 20:51

Hi everyone,
sam we were at longleat too at the same time as you, ahh it's a shame I didn't look at the thread as we might have seen each other. I loved center parcs it was my first time going, the spa was great! Ethan's sleep however was terrible multiple wakings and took ages to settle back down.

since we have got home sleep has improved slightly (hope this doesn't jinx it) he has been waking only 1-2 times then is up for the day anywhere from 5am-5:30.

we are on 4 bf a day sometimes 3 including the night feed, he hasn't been overly interested in milk for a while now.

E's two bottom teeth are coming through at the same time poor thing.

hope everyone is well.

me23 · 12/10/2011 20:56

meant t say re sterilising we dont use bottles but if I did I would sterilise up to 1 year old would be more lax if EBM was in bottles (as formula tends to harbour more bacteria whereas BM is antibacterial in nature.

we don't sterilise spoons, cups or bowls. I beleive the advise is to stop sterilising bowls etc after 6 months but to continue sterilising bottles up to 1 year.

Muser · 12/10/2011 22:41

I don't sterilise anything now, she spends most of her time on the floor stuffing things in her mouth. When I express I just wash the bottles in hot soapy water and leave to air dry. Not that she really gets expressed milk, I donated a freezer full as I'm never out so it always seems a bit silly giving her a bottle.

Lozario · 13/10/2011 13:22

Yeah we don't sterilise anything here either, she doesn't take a bottle but I don't sterilise cups or anything.

Feed-wise we are on 4 a day and usually one overnight too; 7, 11, 3 and bedtime. Overnight she usually wakes around 4ish for a feed, she has been doing this for AGES -when she was doing it at 2 months I thought WOW I have a good sleeper, but now at 6 months I'm thinking I'd like to see some progression?! I've told myself that she has until Christmas for the nightwaking - in the new year I will settle her with water/cuddle/selective hearing!!! Then she's going in with DS, who is occasionally waking needing a wee now he's potty trained. (He won't wee in his nappy at all now at night!!)

Did my back in yesterday, don't know how. Am knackered at the moment; whilst it's lovely that Lara is so much more interactive etc it's so tiring. Mealtimes are taking forEVER now with the two of them, I'm totally losing inspiration, feel like we have cheese sandwiches every day!! Going to inlaws for a long weekend tomorrow though so at least I don't have to think of meals for the next 3 days.

Still no teeth here, or rolling, but she's getting better at sitting on her own (20 seconds or so now) and is starting to clap. Will be quite happy if she is a baby who just sits there clapping for a while!!! I need a rest!!

highlandbird how did you get on at paediatricians?

1catherine1 · 13/10/2011 23:00

Lozario - I hope your back feels better soon. A nice rest will do you good - wish I could have one!

Apparently Anya pulled herself up today into a standing position. I missed it again though. I really hate this working business - feeling quite sorry for myself because I feel like I'm missing everything.

Thanks for all the responses RE sterilising. I'll give up now. I was only sterilising the breast pump and the spoons anyway. Think I've given up pumping though. Anya only uses milk for breakfast anyway and pumping was exhausting me and making me eat too much.

highlandbird · 14/10/2011 09:52

wow to standing and clapping , very impressive, Angus only rolls over when he feels like it and doesn't sit up by himself yet!!
Lozario hope your back feels better soon, I think I'm going to have a knackered back and super strong arms by the time he can walk, its hard work lugging them about isn't it?? Hope you take the opportunity to put your feet up at your in-laws.

Went to see the consultant yesterday, and his opinion is that Angus has a cow's milk protein allergy (his eczema has cleared up since we've been dairy free) and bad reflux. So we're to stay dairy free until he's a year old and we have some new medicine to try for the reflux for 2 weeks, if it doesn't make a difference we just have to sit it out. The good news is that most babies completely grow out of it by 1 so I'm just going to keep him in bed with me at nights for now and worry about that association when the time comes, at least I can comfort him in bed with me and it means I'm less knackered from pacing the floor all night. Definitely peace of mind to know its nothing more serious though, so I can stop moaning for now Blush and get on with enjoying my wee man!!!

Hope you all have lovely weekends x

pettyprudence · 14/10/2011 12:16

Highland Arthur only "got" sitting last saturday - it just kind of clicked for him. Still a bit wobbly though but he can reach for things and mostly stay up!

Right now he's on the floor trying VERY hard to crawl but he just can't make it come together. I feel bad for laughing at his frustration Grin

His bottom teeth are so nearly through. I keep poking around his mouth and he is being very accommodating. He'll probably get his revenge when they come through and bite down hard on my fingers Grin

Weaning is still tits up though - I think he might turn in to a banana soon Blush

edeluna · 16/10/2011 20:29

Hi everyone. We have been inundated with family and friends visiting from abroad, so I have not had a chance to do more than lurk the past several weeks.

I hope all the poorly babies have recovered and are doing heaps better now.

Things here are good. Sabine will be seven months old on Thursday. She's got two teeth now and is eating three solid meals a day. I am concerned, however, that she's not taking enough milk each day. She's still EBF, but being very fussy lately and refusing the breast; not taking many bottles either. She still wakes at least once most nights to feed and then she feeds fine, but from the time she wakes up for the day until bedtime, feeds have become a bit of a struggle. I really don't want to give up BF, though. I'm planning to go to the baby clinic this week to have her weighed and to talk with the nurse there. I wonder if I need to cut back on the solids so that she'll take more milk. I've started weighing out her food and writing down how much she eats and how much milk she takes each day to get a clearer picture of what's going on.

I think on average, she has between 4 and 6 ounces of solid food at each meal. Does this sound reasonable? She's got a very healthy appetite and eats anything I put in front of her (mostly purees and mashed foods, but also some finger foods), so I'm thrilled about that -- but I do worry she's going to be missing out on some crucial nutrients as a result of taking so little milk.

It's probably just a phase (growth spurt, developmental leap, whatever). She's gone off the boob before and then eventually resumed normal feeding, but it stresses me out every time.

Jupiter118 · 17/10/2011 14:59

Hello all

flying by to say hello before the school run. Am lurking and reading, but failing to post [hhmm]

Hope poorly babes and mums are on the mend - guess it is the season for it. Going to work to get free flu jab tomorrow.

All good here - W getting on ok at school the crying at drop off has thankfully ceased.

E now on 3 meals a day (not much BLW though - she's not that bothered and likes to have it shovelled in for her (lazy). She too is dropping milk and not sure she is getting enough fluid. Might need faster flow bottles??? You would think that you remember what to do between children, but no absolutely clueless.

She is also on the move (commando style) so nothing is safe and her and W's playmobil is a frightening prospect so constant scanning from me to check the carpet for tiny things.

Right must dash for now otherwise DS will be the last left at school [hblush]

xxxxx

Medee · 17/10/2011 22:30

Jupiter, do you offer her water in a sippy cup with meals? I give E some after each meal (not during as it is too messy!) and help her get the cup to her mouth. she has dropped BFs but just the snacky in-between feeds, and has kept the main feeds.

sam26oscar · 19/10/2011 14:35

hi all,
me if i'd have known we could have met up for a coffee!!

Well, all going reasonably well here, Cassie progressing quickly with her lumps!! Have found if i put baby gravy on mashed food she wolfs it down!
At last Cassie has decided she would like to stand on her legs!! She likes to hold on and bend her knees and Jump! Thought she would never do it!!
She is so close to crawling too! She has been rocking on her hands and knees for about 2 weeks now, she can move her hands forwards but then her butt collapses!!

Unfortunately the slepp has regressed, is there another sleep regression at 8 months??? She has been up 3 times the last 2 nights, not necessarily for a feed but for a cuddle or... and i mean this, for me to put her dummy back in when she couldn't be bothered to put it in herself???? It was on a tag right next to her cheek the lazy moo!!!! The separation seems to have lifted ever so slightly a little better each week!

Breast feeding: Well, i have decided to try a bottle of formula after her afternoon nap to see if it makes a difference at night but so far no!! So i am going to up it to a bottle PM and then before bed as i am tired of being the only one able to bath and bed her now!! I will breastfeed during the night and day as and when she needs it but i think i have done my part now and someone else can have a go occasionally Grin.

I can't believe she will be 8 months old on Monday Sad.

Hope all going well with everyone although maybe a lot of babies are poorly as it is very quiet on here at the moment!!

Well, think i may catch up on sleep and have a snooze whilst Cassie sleeps!

highlandbird · 19/10/2011 22:09

hooray, Angus can finally sit at 7 months old!! Know what you mean Petty when it just seems to click for them!! He's in no hurry to move anywhere though which is fine by me!
Top teeth throgh now, has been a whingey few days which is fair enough really, he had a big blister on his gum when the first one was coming through, ouch!!
Sam hope Cassie's sleep settles down again, Angus is permanently in my bed now as I just can't be faffed being out of bed myself all night....know I'll regret that at some point but I'm so less tired now that its worth it!!!
Very quiet on here, half term???

Purplefan · 20/10/2011 09:14

Hi everyone,
Sorry not been around as been busy with work and Beth has this cough/cold that she just can't shift therefore has been a nightmare to settle!!
Took her to docs on Tues just to check it hadn't turned into chest infection cos it sounded like it was on her chest.... but thankfully she is fine and it is just a cold!!!!

Half-term now...Yay!! I get to spend some time with my girlies!!! Grin

It is my WA on Saturday 7years...we are going up North to visit the in-laws... DH has arranged for his Nephew and girlfiend to babysit and we're off out for a meal.... I am looking forward to it, but Bethan has never met his Nephew and I can see it being a nightmare especially with her having this cold etc... so I think I may suggest that DD1 is fine to be babysat and Beth can come out with us... or we just get a take-away!!! It would be fine if we went out at home cos my sister or my mum or childminder would babysit and Beth knows all of them and would be fine!!!
What a fussy mother eh?? Wink

Anyway we are staying for a long weekend therefore Petty and Sam I am sorry but won't be around to meet Monday Sad I think the rest of half-term is busy therefore would need to change to a Thursday again!! Sorry to be a pain. x

Hope everyone is ok. Good to hear about babies sitting and crawling etc...
Bethan does none of that and still stays in one place... no rolling either and we're 7 months now!! Not concerned though cos she is doing so well Wink

Take care all xx

pettyprudence · 20/10/2011 11:05

Purple do you mean the Thursday after half term or during half term? Hope you have a nice WA and weekend away :) Know what you mean though about leaving LO's with someone they know - I have arranged for my parents to drive 3.5hrs and stay in a hotel to look after A for about 4 hours (more or less while he's in bed!) while me and DH go to a wedding party next weekend - our first night out together since having A, and my second night out. About bloody time!

Arthur is still snotting and coughing too - about 3 weeks now - but is fine in himself so I'm not too worried.

Arthur is back to eating - yipee! This has coincided with the first tooth breaking through on Tuesday, number 2 is VERY close too. Hope it comes soon as Arthur has woken at 5am for the last 6 mornings screaming for 90mins before going back to sleep. Tried Calpol, cuddles and feeding. Feeding works so long as its lying down in my bed so he doesn't have to be moved other wise he wakes and starts the screaming again. He threw in a bonus session at 11.30pm last night too.

Sam I think there is another sleep regression at about 9 months - maybe Cassie is getting ahead of herself, or it could be another form of seperation anxiety? I have a slightly daft image in my mind of you walking around with a gravy boat to pour on anything you would like Cassie to eat Grin

Congrats Highland on A's new sitting skills and top teeth!

Happy Half Term to all the teachers or those with DC's in school :)

sam26oscar · 20/10/2011 15:30

Lol petty i'm sure she would love me to do that!!
I too have to rearrange this Monday as we are going up North to visit rele's... honestly petty not a conspiracy Wink. So a thursday good for me too, am free half term or another thurs, whichever suits.
slight improvement last night slept til 5.10am then up at 8am Grin.
May have a new job working in the community as a care worker after i was made redundant from nanny job. Not really wanting to go back, i to work would like to stay at home with Casie til she's a year but money says i need to! still i think i can choose my hours and aim to be home every afternoon from 2pm and its only 3 days a week.
Gotta get Cassie up now trying the same routine she had yesterday to see if it makes any difference to her sleep tonight!
have a good day x

me23 · 20/10/2011 18:54

hi all,

E has dropped a lot of BF since weaning he is now on 3 meals a day and has about 3-4 bf a day, I wish I could get him to feed more but he doesn't want to.

A question for those returned to work who are still BF do you express at work? if so how often and if not then is your supply still keeping up? also what does your baby's caregiver give LO during the day ebm/FORUMLA? and how often? sorry for all the q's but I'm back to work in 2 weeks and wondering what schedule to give for LO as at the mo we still don't have much of a routine wrt milk feeds as he BF so sporadically at the mo not sure how much he should have in a bottle and how often.

E can sit unaided for bout 30 secs now he is getting there! he turned 7 months on the 18th.

pettyprudence · 20/10/2011 19:45

Actually sam was a bit of a relief to reschedule as I got my dates mixed up and invited a bunch of babies (and their mums) to my house for lunch on monday :)

1catherine1 · 20/10/2011 20:13

Me - I did express at first but Anya only took the milk for about a week. After that she seemed to realize that she could manage the hours I was out without milk and just started refusing it and waiting for me. It was near impossible for me express at work even though I tried. Work offered me my boss' office to express in and knowing the state of my boss' office I agreed to be polite and then never bothered. Also found that I didn't have the time to express at work. We have a 20 minute morning break and a 30 minute lunch break but by the time you get rid of the kids - get the pump and get sat down it roughly translated to 10 minutes and 15 minutes - can't get much milk in that time. I then tried expressing in the evening after Anya went to bed but this wasn't sustainable and I was exhausted and hungry all the time.

Now Anya has breakfast with formula milk (she won't drink it alone). food through the day and water available (although rarely drinks) and lots of booby when I get home. She spends about 2 hours on me in the evening and about an hour in the morning so I'm sure she is getting all the milk she needs. It is better this way for us as I was getting really upset throwing away expressed milk everyday and tbh it was causing real problems with me and my OH to the extent I was ready to walk out Blush. He didn't understand how precious BM is and in fairness it wasn't his fault Anya was refusing it but I always felt like he could try harder.

Better go... I put Anya to bed but she is being stubborn so I'm going to go up and get her again. Can't listen to her cry anymore - thought I would give her 5 minutes to see if she'd fall asleep and its been 15 now.... :( She is so tired though - why won't she sleep!!!

Lozario · 21/10/2011 07:06

Hi everyone. I now have the new iPhone so mumsnet app works on it - yeay!! Also get this - I can TALK at it instead of typing. Brill.

Lara also being a monster at night at the mo. she was growling for an hour last night, after feeding a little. Night before last she was worse, I ended up bringing her in with me after an hour and a half and then DS needed a wee at 5.30 :( SO freaking tired. Am going to start getting tough at night I think, she rarely has a decent feed anymore so I will start offering water after 10mins of grumbles and then leave her to it. Easier said than done though!!! She has a cold at the mo so I will wait til she's better before starting my new tough love approach. We HAVE to get her out of our bedroom!!!

Got my period this week too so all in all I am not a happy bunny. DH working all hours at mo too. Sorry for all the whinging!!!!

ckny1 · 21/10/2011 11:47

Petty, the lunch chez toi sounds like fun and I'm sure you offered up some tasty treats!

So great that babies are sitting, standing, and generally healthily progressing! Now for getting them all to sleep 8 hrs through the night. Actually, in our case it's ME who wakes in the night and can't settle for 3 hrs. Hmm Ugh. I'm not stressed about our move next Thurs during the day time, but it haunts me at night.

Franz has no idea what is going on and is a chubby happy little man for it.

Purplefan · 22/10/2011 10:04

Hiya, just a very quick one to Sam and Petty The Thursday after half-term 3rd November is good with me! Smile
