S isn't clapping or waving or chatting, there's plenty of time for all of that.

memphis I got a labrador pup a few years ago and the first night he crawled under my bed and cried and cried all night long. He was better within a week though, just missed his litter mates understandably. He'll settle in very quickly!

Chulita · 04/03/2011 12:36

Angry L just bit S on the face, proper teethmarks. She never bites...what on earth possessed her to do that?! She's in her room now (but not crying so my telling off obviously wasn't scary enough Grin )

CakeandRoses · 04/03/2011 12:56

oh chulita poor S. is he upset?

is L teething [teething obsessed emoticon]?

F only bites when he's teething - 'thankfully' it's usually only me he'll bit but has bitten his best friend a couple of times.

sentences must sound mad coming from a 1yo, tsc! F was early to talk but nothing like that!

chulita thats strange about the biting if she isnt a biter, i have to admit people with toddlers on this thread are scaring me into sticking with the one!!! potty training, beating up their siblings i dont think its for me Grin oh and on the puppy front i went out and he cried and when i got back silence, he was in the sunshine spot in the LIVING ROOM, he had escaped a LOCKED crate! i think ive bought houdini's reincarnation!
the only 'words' L says are mama and when he picks something up his eyebrows go up and he says oooooh
mlic your hv sounds amazing! my hv is positively shit!

Blush Oops... Sorry if it sounded like I was getting at you or something, MLIC. It's hard to convey tone sometimes. I was actually just curious as to how things seem to run differently in different areas! Age ranges of checks as well as locations.

Though having been to the appointment, I'm now rather Envy of your home visit... When they said "You have an appointment at 10am", what they meant was, "Turn up whenever and we'll add you to the ever expanding waiting list and you'll be seen with a bazillion other people when we get a moment."

40 minutes in a hot waiting room later, M was the only baby not screaming the place down! (She was too fascinated by being out of the house and seeing other people for a change. Blush I evidently don't get out enough.)

The check up itself lasted about 5 minutes and basically consisted of "Is M ok? Any concerns? No? Here's a recalled book and a toothbrush in a bag with choke hazard handles. Off you go!" Hmm

CakeandRoses · 04/03/2011 13:19

sounds like a worthwhile visit spirael!

did you contact your HV about it or did she contact you. can't remember how it works. would be good to get both of mine seen at the same time like mlic if poss.

S was fine by the time I got downstairs but there's a lovely red tooth mark on his forehead. I think it was more her leaning onto his head with her mouth open iyswim rather than a deliberate bite. She was playing peek-a-boo with him behind her hair and I think she just decided to see what it felt like Hmm as you do.

memphis 2 is so much fun though when they play together. L is really into hiding games and popping out on S, he wets himself laughing and it's so cute!
We had a kind of a labrador/greyhound mongrel dog and he could escape anything. He could jump over me without a run-up and he used to be always running round outside the gate cos we just couldn't keep him in despite having huuuuuuge fences...good luck!

cake have you not had the 2 year check yet? L had hers in November and it was quite fun, especially when it took 5 mins of coaxing to get her measured and involved measuring bear, me and S before she consented!

spireal that sounds rubbish. I've always enjoyed the checks but the ones I've been to they play games with them and actually take time to see what they're doing.

tsc a break sounds nice!! Shock at your friends daughters finger, i thought in a nursery they would have those hinge cover things!!!
chulita our house is like a fortress high fences all around and out gates are nearly 8 foot high on the drive so dont think he would get out of garden [hopefull] Grin
my hv was good for the 1st time this week as she had a student with her but the student was pushing her checks watching him play and saying have you checked this and that!
we are going cinema tonight mil is babysitting she sounded pissed off that we got a dog, obviously all my doing nothing to do with dh, i hope he pisses in her shoes

memphis83 · 04/03/2011 14:41

cakes how do i make a cheese sauce for mac cheese, mine is gritty iykwim

Chulita · 04/03/2011 14:55

I can tell you how I do mine, but it might not be as good as cake 's recipe. Blob of butter/marg, melt in pan, add a bit of flour and mix til a paste, gradually add milk bit by bit stirring the whole time, then bring to a boil still stirring, add cheese/philly and melt into it, serve.
Amounts I go by looks but generally about a tablespoon of butter, enough flour to make something like toothpaste and then enough milk to make it the right consistency when hot iyswim. Sometimes the gritty-ness comes from overheating the butter or cooking the butter/flour mix. I tend to take the pan off the heat while mixing the flour in and put it back on once I'm adding the milk.

Phewf, that's a relief. :) I read the post back once I stopped running around and suddenly realised how it might sound.

Speaking of running around, best go get DH!

Woodlands · 04/03/2011 16:51

Then Sun Im meeting a friend and going to the park with the kiddies.

WhatSheSaid · 04/03/2011 21:02

It is with the in-laws though mlic. Dh has started calling his stepfather "The Dementor" (not to his face Grin) - from Harry Potter - the creatures that suck all the joy out of life...

They've gone, we're packing and putting off setting off.

Hope everyone has a good week.
