Silk that's great news about K's talking :) In fact you have inspired me to make a self-indulgent post: DS's speech is really coming along now and I wanted to make a note of some of the funny things he says.

  • he still misses the 's' off the start of some words, e.g. 'nake' (snake). But he has learned to say 'sowy' and keeps making me very guilty by coming over for no reason and saying 'sowy, sowy mummy' and giving me a hug Blush He also sometimes says sorry to toys he's trodden on etc. Grin

  • word of the day is dinosaur, which comes out as 'daddydor'.

  • he calls his dummy his 'das'. Why, I don't know, but I like it.

  • he also likes chasing games ('catch cat/mummy/J') and enjoys exclaiming 'silly mummy!' whenever I do something stupid.

I should film him more really, at this age. He is so cute.

salta congrats on M's walkie-talkieness :) I think girls often outstrip boys in verbal ability, and obv you will already know this but I think it's quite common for bilingual children to lag behind until a little later, then have a language explosion.

BibiBelle · 16/11/2010 20:06

ARRGGHHHHH that fecking woman from the bakery that shall not be named would appear to have gone onto Twitter and hit 'follow' for the whole KnB list. I Swear I didn't look Red but sometimes it's hard not to when shovelled in your face and RTed all over the place

I need D to go to sleep so I can fire up the oven Hmm

Star - you're absolutely right, you should be filming him. I haven't done it with any of mine and wish I had. E used to say Steko instead of Tesco and it's still used by DH and I but not her Sad L had a whole manner of brilliant words in replacement for things and D calls my business partner Cream instead of her proper name which I love Smile

ShineyHappyHair · 16/11/2010 20:17

Hey gals, just read up on what I've been missing. So:

congrats Enya what fab news that 'h' is trying hard, and so he should. Fingers crossed for a bright and happy future

crispy I hope mini crisp is on the mend?

bb what were you nominated for? Apart from being fab of course Grin

star/silks/salta such lovely news to hear about your boys verbal offerings Grin. O is babbling away with a few recognisable words:
bob bob pants is Sponge Bob
washing (clearly because I am always washing, not!)
sues is shoes
soxon is socks on
boobies
wee-ee is willy

lots of bodily related words Hmm
brb gotta put ds1 to bed

enyahadenough · 16/11/2010 20:35

arghhh dd1 being a complete pita tonight, just won't go to bed [sigh].. it also looks like she has an eye infection Hmm.. are they allowed go to school with an eye infection????

BibiBelle · 16/11/2010 20:36

yes enya - only V&D they're not allowed in with

shiney - think it was the Christmas campaign thingy - not sure

blueberryboybait · 16/11/2010 20:51

Evening all

I have been domestic goddess today - haddock gratin, new pots and veg, apple pie and homemade cuthbert. I made yummy cupcakes earlier too.

DD1 is limpetty, DD2 is sore from teething. I have been a tad shouty as DD1 just ignores me unless I start counting to three getting firmer and louder until she listens, my only consellation is that she is as pleasant as pie and very obliging at nursery and when we are out.

Bibi - sorry to hear hips are creaky - give us your ideal for bunks and a budget then we can shop for you.

Hippy - stay with Crispy, I still haven't got there and she is only 45 mins from me Shock

Enya - eye infections are fine - just wash it out tonight and tomorrow morning with salt dissolved in hot water and allowed to cool.

OP posts:
enyahadenough · 16/11/2010 21:03

thanks ladies, her eye has blown up like a balloon Sad[sigh].. she is currently in my bed singing and dd2 coughing and sneezing.. gonna be a long night Hmm

CrispyTheCrisp · 16/11/2010 22:30

Not long finished work, but i did manage a nice soak in the bath inbetween Smile

LOL @ Salta's oversharing Grin and great news re the boys and their chit chat.

Oh and i agree with Bi-lingual children. My friend's DS is now 7 and he really only 'got it' in both languages at about 4 or 5. Now is absolutely fluent Envy

Off to bedski now. Night.

Silkstalkings · 16/11/2010 22:34

If it's really gooey and looking like conjunctivitis go to the chemist first thing. It's so infectious what with all the rubbing and conjunctivitis is the last thing you need so maybe best to get her out the house LOL.

DH still says 'codding' for pudding because DD used to when she was 3Grin. Also her phrase 'I'm a bit pecklish' has several times come out of my mouth in public and received some v odd looks.

Did anyone Holby tonight? I actively sobbed for about 15mins afterwards, not just the usual tear or two. That poor motherSad.

Silkstalkings · 16/11/2010 22:37

That's peckle-ish rather than peck-lish btw.

CrispyTheCrisp · 16/11/2010 22:37

Sorry, def agree with Silks. We got some fab drops for DD1 on holiday - cleared it up in no time Smile

RedLentil · 16/11/2010 22:38

dd1 gets 'a bit nibbly' and we have 'podge' for breakfast because of her too. When you get ready to go out you look 'booffllee' because of ds.

DD2 thinks that dogs live in 'kenimals' which is a keeper I think.

TwilightSurfer · 16/11/2010 22:45

Salta full strength cleared me out yesterday. I bet you're already feeling slightly lighter.Wink Amazing how your insides feel different when there's nothing crowded in your intestines.

Enya I will probably be up all night with DD2 so I'll check on you later.

DD2 sounds like an 80 year old chain smoker. The nurse suggested I try some antihistamine with her tonight. Scares me that she said a full tsp of the children's stuff. That more than I take. I might give her an eight of a tsp and sleep with her to see what happens. I am so fearful of medications!!!

Cooked peppercorn pork loin, homemade mac-n-cheese (used rotini noodles), italian salad with tomatoes-cucumbers-black olives, and crescent rolls. I also made a chocolate pudding pie but that was all instant with store bought graham cracker crust.

Please tell me what is wrong with me. The above is an extremely abnormal occurrence!

aDarkStarWithStrangeWays · 16/11/2010 22:52

TS if that's abnormal, I don't wanna be normal :) Peppercorn pork loin sounds lush.

Animal names: DS can now name all his zoo dominoes including 'heeho', 'lie' and my personal glottal-stopping favourite 'e'ant' Grin These would be hippo, lion and elephant, btw.

BibiBelle · 16/11/2010 23:14

our elephants are plain ole fants in this house Grin

Star - I found myself discussing a tattoo with a brilliant Spanish woman today - I do have a tendency to act on impulse sometimes though Hmm

Merlion · 17/11/2010 03:22

Sorry have also been MIA so trying to catch up

Enya I agree with Silks and Crispy if it is conjunctivitis - it spreads like wildfire. Great news re potential reinstatement of 'd' though.

TS I hope DD2 is feeling better. DS is routinely given antihistamine when he has a bad cough/cold by the doctors but I've never actually given it too him so we have a cupboard full. The doctors imvho seriously over-medicate here. You are making me feel hungry though.

Lovely news on all the speech developments. DS continues to be a bit of a scaredy cat but his imagination is running wild at the moment which is lovely to watch and listen to when he is playing - although I also think contributing to nightmares at the moment. This morning he told me a dinosaur bit him on the knee. He asked me to kiss it better and it was all ok after that Grin. He speaks quite well though and 'understands' numbers up to about 5 and knows the alphabet song. He still loves singing and has quite a repertoire of nursery rhymes.

Hots sorry to hear about the car.

Hippy definitely option A with stop-over in Paradise

Bibi any more news on the hip?

enyahadenough · 17/11/2010 06:27

morning...

ok so i am officially leaving home Hmm.. it was 9.50pm before dd1 finally went to sleep Shock she is going to be shattered today.. will check o eye first thing, thanks ladies.. i presume she will be fine for school but did worry about her spreading it around like wildfire and me being a naughty mummy for sending her in... hopefully will all be ok..

dd2 on the other hand, woke up woke up woke up woke up [sigh] and was singing me the wheels on the bus at 5.50am!!! my ear is playing up again even tho i finished the antibiotics so i was awake til 3!!!! now i am having a VAT of coffee!!!

salta great words and wow about dd starting to talk already!!

TS hope you weren't up all night and dd2 is feeling better, your cooking sounds amazing Smile

bbbb cannot believe that dd2 is starting to wean and so pleased it is going well.. hope dd1 limpet likeness stops today.....

dd2 has learned jingle bells from her darling sister so christmas has officially arrived at our house [sigh]... laters lovelies xxx

CrispyTheCrisp · 17/11/2010 07:32

Morning - am hiding in bed whilst girls pretend to be piplings Hmm
We used to have eletoots here but they gone now Sad

Ahhhhhhhh, just had another argument discussion with DD1 re needing to wear long sleeves as it is cold and DD2 stuck on DD1's windowsill. S'pose I will have to get up......

FjorgynAndHotWater · 17/11/2010 08:54

Had to come to work on the train today Sad, brrrr it's cold. Now I am here some of the servers are down and I can't even do any work

LOL Crispy we have those same discussions with DD. They really don't feel the cold like us old gimmers do they? On Monday I went to pick up DD from school and not only had she left her coat in the playground when she was playing out, but she had also forgotten to put her dress back on after PE Hmm so was planning on walking home in leggings and a t-shirt...

Enya if your ear is still hurting get back for more anti biotics and hope both your DDs are feeling better today.

Merlion your DS sounds scrummy Smile his birthday twin is also very fond of 'singing', it makes me melt and pmsl in roughly equal measures Grin

Bibi good luck with the bunk bed hunt. Ours are working v well and the DC love them.Agree with others, let us know your budget and requirements and we'll find some fab ones for you :)

Am loving all this toddler talk, and you have hopefully reminded me to get the camera out to record some of DS for posterity. I have lots of DD but not much of my nsc Blush

Better try my emails again...

HippyHippopotamus · 17/11/2010 08:55

morning all Smile

FjorgynAndHotWater · 17/11/2010 09:01

Morning Hippy Smile

Work still broken so time to do another tea run I think. Anyone want some?

HippyHippopotamus · 17/11/2010 09:17

coffee please. can you put the coffee in the mug first, then add a couple of sugars. meanwhile, froth some warm milk. pour a little of the milk in with the coffee, stir and then add the rest of the frothy milk on top. oh and i'll have a sprinkling of chocolate too if you've got it but don't worry if not Grin

FjorgynAndHotWater · 17/11/2010 09:22

Sugar in coffee??? sorry m'dear it's gold blend with semi skimmed, no froth, not even any biscuits. I was actually going to call into Caffe Nero on my way through Leeds this morning but was v sensible (given my current financial situaution) and walked on by. Could just drink a cappucino with extra chocolate on top now though.

HippyHippopotamus · 17/11/2010 09:43

oh ok, i'll have a tea then please. you do have Earl grey though, don't you?!

Merlion · 17/11/2010 11:22

No more talk of coffee please - bleurgh!
